Hey everyone- I'd like to attend the camp, but probably could only afford going to Madison for the day. Any suggestions as to what day would be the best? I'd like to do some stuff with the EN Chickas, and hopefully do one of the team dinners...so I guess I was thinking Saturday might be the best day? What do you guys think?
Not sure which forum to post this but I know have a meeting on Friday July 9 at 3p so I will come early Saturday morning for the ride start (just LMK what time and where we are starting from). Major bummer.
Same for us now - my training partner is on call on Friday, so we will make the drive up really early saturday morning and meet you all - just keep us all posted on the start time for the saturday ride. Thanks! Lisa
Hi girls .....Ugh, I just wrote a long post and accidentnly erased it all. In a nutshell, I want to come to the rally, am coming all the way from So. Calif. I want to get as much in as possible, but want to save money if possible. Do I HAVE to rent a car if I am staying at the Clarion? I am going to Fed-Ex my bike because I get a freebie through husbands account (vs. dragging it through 3 airports each way, nasty connections) If I get there Thursday I will miss dinner and talk , but if I get there Weds. I will not quite know what to do with myself. Unless there is something I can do. Lastly, not sure if everyone is leaving Sat or Sunday, again trying to schedule what day to depart. I do not yet know how to put my bike back together (embarressed) will someone be able to help me with that?? I do know how to change flats though_ I have been encouraged that my skill level will fit in (thanks Katima and Nemo) so any extra ideas you all could throw at me would help me put the final decisions together. REALLY WANT TO MEET SOME EN FRIENDS, also feel I am in the older segmant so don't want to feel like the slow poke. I think I am overthinkingPS cant' really run but wondered if anyone wanted to go for a swim (will bring wetsuit)
Linda; I'd suggest shipping your bike directly to the Bike Shop in Madison (can't remember the name, Check the other Camp Planning thread because that has the map with the bike shop on it). And arrange to have them assemble and then pack your bike for shipping again- that's probably the easiest thing to do. I don't think you'll need a car- most everything will be walking or biking distance from the hotel. We might need to carpool or cab to one or two things over the weekend- but not enough to warrant a car. As for arrival/departure- you kinda have to make that decision based on your schedule. Folks are coming/going at different times based on their own calendars and availability- just do whatever works for you best and I'm sure it will all work out.
PS- more details on the structure of the camp are forthcoming. Rich learned a lot last weekend at the IMLP camp and is going to be making some adjustments so the IMWI camp is even better. Stay tuned and watch the threads.
Linda, I'm doing the same, FedEx'ing my bike to hotel, flying into Madison and taking a cab to the hotel. I'm banking on being able to get rides from other campers if I need to drive anywhere.
If you're doing the bike shop thing, as suggested, check out Machinery Row(?) bikes. About 300m from Monona Terrace.
And I can be a chauffeur as well... I can even do airport pickups, depending on when you're flying in. I work by the airport, so can pick up people on Wed evening. I also took Thurs/Fri off work!
Hi Rich, going to do the Fed Ex thing to hotel as long as someone knows how to put my bike back together, I need to learn.....I want to sign up for your swim clinic on Thursday for $79.00, making sure it is not full yet (only 20 people) doubt if anyone needs it more than me. Risky for me to do this in front of YOU, but hey!! Anyway, also going to coordinate with Nemo and Linda Patch and anyone else because like you I am not renting a car, landing late afternoon Weds. Just finalized everything (I hope), excited! and a bit intimidated Linda
Nemo, I just read your text to me and forgot about "packing it back up" so now not sure, need to find out if they deliver to the hotel or how to get the bike from the shop to the hotel. Lost of nice offers of "drivers" so probably not a problem. Can't wait to finally meet you. I checked out your race pics online (same company that did 70.3 Kona) you look GREAT coming out of the water!!! Know I can't change "subjects" here. So enough said! Linda
Linda- the bike shop & hotel are really close- you could easily bike to/from and let the shop hold onto your box until after the weekend.
Silly Q- but do you know how to pack it for the intial trip? You might want to ask your LBS to show you how to pack/unpack and help you out with that first part- from there you will probably be able to do it yourself. All part of the learning.
Ditto to what Tracie said- Kris and I should arrive Wed afternoon and will be in my SUV. Room!!
Whatever the driver lady sez!! Guess I better put in my vaca req- couldn't remember if we said Wed or Thurs! I'm really starting to get excited abt meeting everyone!
Nope- not bringing the wetsuit. If there is an opportunity to swim in the lake I'll take my chances with being a little cold. But frankly, I'm gonna doubt we really get much of an opportunity to do too much swimming in the lake- just too much other stuff going on.
Nemo, I do have a local shop that has packed it for me a few times, they just have me drop it off with the case and they don't ever have time for me to hang around , think they do it after hours because they are always packed with people shopping and understaffed. So need to continue to rehash sending it hotel or to local bike shop there if getting help putting it back together isn't going to work out. Think if someone there could show me I would be able to do it in the future and would LOVE to be able to do that...... will keep working on that one.
Ship your bike to the hotel. I or the xx other people there will show you how to put it together (very easy). Same with packing it up. Tell your LBS:
To put tape on your seat tube to mark the saddle height
I'll have allens and a peddle wrench
I recommend you have them remove your pedals at the shop, before they pack your bike, and YOU fly with your helmet, shoes, and pedals. That way if something happens with the shipment of your bike, you have the bare essentials and can rent a bike in Madison.
Nemo, I had my son pack my bike last night because I have to leave for a family reunion tomorrow and will be there until 2 days before rally. In otherwords I have to ship my bike today. Now I am torn between shipping to bike shop and taking Rich's suggestion to ship to hotel. It took for ever to dissemble and I know it is too complicated for me to put back. Are you shipping to bike store?? I looked for the address in other planning threads and couldn't find it. If you have a sec can you lead me to the bike store thread (address, name) , I will call them and let them know it will be there a little early OR I will call the Clarion and let them know it will be there a bit early. I land at 10:30 PM on Weds. so lots of time on Thursday to get it all organized. Thinking the bike people are best shot and if there are any problems they can fix...without imposing on Rich or other campers. Your thoughts? Also as far as ALL THE TALK related to food, date changes, etc. I am just going to follow what Rich wants us to do as this is my first time and I don't want to miss any talks. I AM bringing my wetsuit, cause I can't run and maybe I can get some swimming in (still waiting to hear if there is going to be a swim clinic), just not sure lake location related to hotel......I rode 41 miles yesterday and was pretty tired so just hoping I am not totally in over my head
I realize this is rather late in the game, but my roommate cancelled for camp, so wondering if anyone needs or wants to share a room? I am also planning on calling Clarion today to see if I possibly could get a single.Lemme know. Thanks!

Are you all lugging your wetsuit???
I may throw mine in. But only because we are driving and I will have the room.
I'm bringing mine, ladies.
