  • Sorry for your loss Bill. My condolances to you and your family.
  • Bill- Sorry to hear about your loss. Chocked up reading about your kids being so sad. It was hard to watch my nieces and nephews go through that last year when my dad died.

John- also sorry to hear about your brother

my thoughts are with both of you
    Take care

  • Quick question for everyone...if you miss a workout, do you double up the next day to make it up? I had my annual (at least what seems to be my annual) spinal injection yesterday morning so I didn't get the run workout in (too sore from the shot). Today I feel fine and was wondering if I should do the bike workout and then make up the run workout as a brick?
    Thoughts?
  • ouch!! and double ouch. normally we don't "make up" workouts but just press on.....the run is not an "easy" one either. but Sunday's is similar with pacing zones so personally I would just do the bike and now if it were me and I was outside and it was sunny and blue skies and I felt like celebrating life, I would run a bit.... smile but don't take my advice cuz I ended up with IT knee and piriformis due to my "overtraining" ha ha..... no really, the bike is great and I just like to be outside!!

Do not double up.  In general, the coaches response to this Q is usually- if you miss it, you miss it.  Just let it go and get back on track.  If you really want to "make up" that run- do it tomorrow.

My standard response is that you didn't miss a workout day, you gained a recovery day.  This is a question that has been asked about 243 times, so you're not alone.  While this might not apply to you, it's always funny to me to hear people that have some over-use injury, miss some workouts, and then ask for advice on how they can double up next week to make up for the lost time.

  • I've had two excellent weeks so far. All workouts have gone as planned and the workouts are getting smoother. This morning's hour on the bike was great. I did the 2 intervals at Z4/5 and figured I'd hang in the Z3 as long as I could for the last portion of the ride and I was surprised that just about ALL of the remainder of the ride was Z3 with quite a bit of Z4 in there. It felt good.

Of course, being a runner I find the runs the easiest. I enjoy the speedwork I'm getting. That's been my weakness. I've done the LSD for too many years.

I like the "work". I was going over in my mind this morning during the ride that my goal was to recruit as many muscle fibers in my body as I could during the workout. After a wokout now I feel like I apply myself to the workout and not just do the time. It's "quality" time. On a scale of 1-10 it's a 10. Good stuff!

  • Thank you all for the feedback regarding doubling up my workouts. I only did the bike today and felt great. Depending on how I feel tomorrow, I'll either rest or swim (as that is my extremely weak link). I'll start running again with the long run over the weekend. I like the idea of "gaining" a recovery day.

  • So........I went off the grid for a week and now back to continue Nov out Season.
Did the old forums go bye bye?

Hi Chris...Except for General Discussion they are still in operation for now. You go to the top red bar above, click Community, then 3.0 forums. Glad you're back!

  • I am thrilled to be on a REST day!!! My body/legs/everything are tired.

Heading to the hotel pool/hot tub in Disney now.
  • Will second that, CC! was very happy to play in the pool this morning. Have to modify my run this weekend with the Dallas 1/2 mary looming so gotta rest the legs up a little. image

  • Linda, Don't worry, I do know how to balance and take care of myself as well.  This is my second time doing the OS plan and know when to take off if I need to.  However, I do know that I can be guilty of making  excuses for not getting the work done and I was refering to using my focus on my Ironman to keep me from coming up with excuses to stay in bed, or not push myself when the plan says to push.  I can sometimes talk myself out of working hard for no good reason.  When I know that everyone around me is working hard, it will keep me focused.  thanks for the concern.
