The Nov OS iPod mojo playlist

Hey, gang!

If you're like me you rely heavily on your iPod (or favorite MP3 player) to help get you through those tough bike and run sessions.  And, if you're like me, you're always on the lookout for new tunes to keep things fresh and give you that little bit of extra mojo to battle through those super-hard intervals when you need a boost. So I figured we could share some recs for our "go-to" songs when things get tough.

Here are a handful old faves and recent additions that get me amped up:

  • "Killing in the Name Of" Rage Against the Machine
  • "Battle Flag" Lo Fidelity All Stars
  • "Push the Tempo" Fat Boy Slim
  • "Boom" Bloodhound Gang

I've also been into Bhangra/DJ/Dance music lately for those longer 85% intervals and EZ pace runs.

So...what gets your blood pumping?  I figure we could all use some new mojo tunes for the Saturday bike workout!

-Chris

  • Great thread.  You should get a lot of good entries here.  Looking forward to some suggestions.  At the top of my list is just about anything by Soundgarden, especially the Superunknown disc.  But, above all others is "Rusty Cage" off their BadMotorFinger album.  If you can find a live version from around '91-'92, even better.  I plan to have it looped on my iPod in the hour or so leading up to the swim start at IMLP.  Perfect combination of driving guitars, pounding drums and rev-it-up lyrics.

  • Awesome thread Chris!! Here's my 2 cents

    * Horseshoes and Handgrenades - Green Day
    * True Believers - Bouncing Souls
    * The Boogie That Be - Black Eyed Peas
    * Body Movin' - Beastie Boys
    * Hate to Say I Told You So - The Hives
    * St Jimmy - Green Day
    * Bleed American - Jimmy Eat World
    * Fat Lip - Sum 41
    * Stronger - Kanye West
    * Hey Mama - Black Eyed Peas

I have a bunch of music and I am always playing with my playlists, it's fun. I am looking forward to what others have to say so that I can add some more songs to my library.

I have alot of stuff by nickelback, greenday, finger eleven, black eyed peas, lady gaga, eminem.  Nothing like hard rock, goofy lyrics and angry rap to get a guy going!!!

Hey, can we move this thread to the Club House so we can see what everyone else adds??

Sure.  I've never moved a thread before so I'm not sure what the procedure is.  Anyone know?  Or do I just start a new thread from scratch with the same topic?

  • Good thread, I have an iTunes gift card burning a hole in my wallet. I tend to gravitate toward the rolling beats that will carry my foot turnover through a long run.

I See You Baby - Groove Armada & Gran'ma Funk
I'm On Fire - Bruce Springsteen [good for warm up]
Umbrella (Rhianna cover) - All Time Low [far superior to Rhianna's version - this one has an extra background beat and seems quicker]
    The Underdog - Spoon
    Lose Yourself - Eminem
Into the Fire - Thirteen Senses
Beat It - Fall Out Boy
Here It Goes Again - Ok Go
    Little Favours - KT Tunstall
Black Horse and the Cherry Tree - KT Tunstall
    Different - Acceptance

    And, I'm embarrassed to admit:
    Womanizer - Britney Spears
  • Love the thread Chris. I definitely need to mix it up some myself. I haven't created a playlist in a few months but have been using the Genius function on my iPhone. Not sure if they have it for iPod or not. I select a song and it throws together a playlist based upon it. Has been pretty good so far. As for what is in my library, here is what tends to show up:

Metallica - Enter Sandman, Master of Puppets, Sad but true, One, fade to black, i can go on and on
Guns n roses- paradise city, you could be mine, welcome to the jungle, mr brownstone, etc
    pearl jam - evenflow, alive
    godsmack - whatever, keep away
    pantera - walk
disturbed - down with the sickness, stupify
    drowning pool - bodies
dr dre - Aint nuthing but a g thing, still dre, the next episode
    jay z - big pimpin
rage against the machine - killing in the name, bulls on parade, bombtrack, wake up,love rage so just about anything they do
    dmx- party up
can always throw in some old school rap - NWA, Cypress Hill, Run DMC, Beastie Boys
Even though i am a Jersey guy Bon Jovi doesn't do it for me. Maybe some Bruce if I am relaxing but not for some work.

I definitely need some new music though. It might if I actually listened to the radio occasionally.
  • OMG that's amazing guys!  You pretty much listen to the same stuff I do!  Add to the Iron Maiden list: "2 minutes to Midnight" and throw in some DIO and DOKKEN as well and were all good!

  • I am a huge fan of the Jay Z / Linkin Park mashups for going really hard on the bike.

  • @Al: How 'bout "pusherman" by Steppenwolf...whole side of the album. That is a black plastic disc with music on it for you young'uns... Dave
  • Angry irreverence is always good when I have to dig deep... A lot of the stuff already posted. Don't think I saw any Ramones.

  • Al, gotta love it! I have Iron Butterfly! Awesome! Great drum solo on it too! Great tunes! Although, I'm an old gal, so some of it I've never heard of! But, gotta love AC/DC and Aerosmith! How about Molly Hatchet "Flirtin' With Disaster"? And Kansas?
  • Here is my eclectic mess -I'm not a hard rocker, rapper- no Metallica for me!

Mark Schultz - Running just to catch myself
Maroon 5 - Harder to Breathe
Kelly Clarkson - My life would suck
