IMSG 2010 week 2 run thread
Anyone do the run intervals yet?
Steve and I did ours with our track group today. 18 people total. Such a phenominal group of fun and positive people!
Plan says 3 x 1mile at TP/Z4 which for me is 6:51pace. I thought no freaking way before hand as my legs are still a wee bit sore from the long run Sunday. My peeps were doing 3 x 2000 @10K pace and they are faster than me already so I did that with them but hung behind. Ended up feeling ok and beating my FT pace and doing the 2000's in 8:15 which is 6:38ish pace. Funny how before a workout you are SURE you can't do it but then you totally surprise yourself.
Running in general feels great. Just the fatigue factor of increased training and the freaking Olympics at night and losing sleep from staying up too late is making me pooped out.

I ran the intervals yesterday on pavement. I find it challenging to estimate pace related to varying hill slopes. There's only one piece of flat realstate where I live (the track) and it's covered with 2 feet of snow. I guess in a way the rolling hills will more realistically reflect the IMSG run course so maybe it's a blessing in disguise.
I've been reading the other posts and it sounds like everyone making the transition with a little apprehension, I'm right there with you.
I forgot how much I love swimming. Twice per week with a long commute but it's coming along.
I am looking at the beginner plan, 2X1’ @ Z4/Z5. I have a hard time with pacing. I run early when it is still dark. I have two speeds slow and fast (at least fast for me). I start out at my slow speed, set the garmin to ¼ mile laps and just start running. After my warm up, go to fast speed for 4 beeps/laps on the garmin, then slow back down until the next interval. I know I need the five speeds based on vDot but unless I am on a treadmill, I don’t have them. My vDot is 41.2, 7:45 pace. My slow speed was about 8:50 and fast was 7:25. Technically, I hit the numbers the plan called for. I just did not know it until I downloaded the garmin after the run.
Two big bike days up next

Tom- 3 x 1 mile FAST for you is scary fast!! - See you in 1 hour for our long ride
Wei- That snow is sketchy to run in. Building your mental six pack for sure.
I just got home from our Thursday am group run. 10 miles at easy for 2 miles( slower than Z1), 5 at tempoish( around Z2-Z3), 3 a little faster than Z1. Good news is my legs feel great and the tempo around 7:20-7:35 pace felt really good which is nice because last week I felt crappy. Maybe my body is absorbing the work. Who knows? I can't predict anymore when I will feel good.
My long run will be Sunday on trails!!!!!! The weather says rain this weekend so it will be muddy but I miss trails and plan to go anyway!
Anyone running the Thursday long run today? If so I hope it goes well.

My attempt at doing the long run ended thanks to further feelings of vertigo and instability. I got through my first HMP interval and then when I started the second one things got iffy. Tried stopping and restarting 3 times before I finally called it. I’m sad and frustrated. I really have the desire to do this training and I also know that I have the ability but I can’t push through when I’m not feeling stable. I think I get so fearful about what could happen that things may get worse when they don't need to.
The strangest thing is that I’m not sure what changed all of a sudden to bring this stuff on so consistently!! I got through all of the OS work with off and on issues with some balance stuff on the treadmill, but nothing that had me feeling off night and day like this. This is to the point that I’m not even sure if I’m making it up or if it’s real. You know, is it a mental 6-pack thing, or is it really something physical? Driving in to work this AM I had some nausea and then sitting in my meeting at 8:30 there were a couple of dicey moments when I thought I might have to put my head down. So it must be real…but I wish I knew what it was. (and the answer everytime I've had episodes of this sort over the years has never been pregnancy...i know that's what people always jump to...they did that when I broke my face....the second thing they jumped to was drugs or alcohol over consumption....admittedly both are possible, but not likely...especially now!)
Anyway, I’m going to the Dr. tomorrow morning so I can at least start investigating. At this point this stuff has gone on long enough to warrant having a look.
But don't count me out!! I plan to see how I feel later today or tomorrow afternoon and then try to get the long run in. But will not push it. If it isn’t meant to be it just won’t be.
I know you want to do the workouts. Seems physical and not mental.
I hope you get answers and relief soon.
Bummed for you :-(

Olivia, go see a doctor, wow! scary stuff. You're worse than Rich about getting stuff taken care of! Hope you get an answer and get better soon.
As to my week, 4 out of the 5 runs done according to plan. Missed one short brick as I extended a ride, so all ended well for the wee.
The best part is come IM day, I just have to try and hold around 9:00m pace. Very cool!!
