Right now, I'm thankful that someone invented wallpaper steamers. Easily cut the scraping work by a factor of 5 this weekend!
Also thankful for that deep fatigue of a great marathon relay challenge this weekend!
Mike
I'm thankful that I just told RnP to sign me up for the ToC camp next year! Hopefully there's still slots available.
I'm thankful that last week is over, and I can now move on with my (newly single) life! what a PITA!
I'm thankful that the weather is nice, Turkey Trot (w/ obligatory beers afterwards) is this Thursday - along with Thanksgiving and a long weekend.
Lots of levels for this one:
Top level, I am thankful for my kids, my other loved ones, their health and happiness and my health and happiness.
(Lots of other gratitude to go around but those are the biggies.)
On another meaningful level, I'm thankful for all of the support and comeraderie here and upbeat folks like Carrie.
On yet another level, I'm thankful that (just having left the barber) that very short hair is in vogue for men.
Ok, no more levels for now.
I am thankful for lots right now. Hoping to have my head cold clear by tomorrow so that I can run fast and then eat lots on Thursday with friends and family. Oh that and kill myself in the cave on the bike in the morning.
Great thread, Carrie!
I am thankful for my truly charmed life that includes:
When you lead a charmed life it's hard to produce a list of what you're thankful for... Not enough time! I'll limit it to this:
I had a health scare almost exactly 2 years ago and thought I might have to quit training altogether. I'm thankful that didn't become true. I'm also thankful for the attitude transformation it gave me. Feel like I'm getting a second chance, and it's a lot more fun than the first time around!
Charmed life here too. So much to be grateful for. Family, friends health, a good job at a stable company that I actually like. The list goes on . . .
Carrie, what a great thread! Hmmm, so much to be thankful for...
Right now, a steady job in a scary economy, a warm house, a loving family, a beautiful daughter and the health to train! And of course, this EN fun experience!
wow where to begin?? I am thankful that one day I got a wild hair and decided to run around a track and in the cool down on a very humid June morning, I felt God's presence as the sun began to rise....from that point on, running and prayer went hand in hand and over the last 5.5 years, I have had all sorts of situations come up that I just couldn't wait to go out and run and tell God about!!! many times out there, I think of people whom I have virtually/physically met in EN and although we have come from all athletic backgrounds and work and locations in the US, it sure has been nice over the last 2 years to share Life with each other and share the joy and agony of training and racing!!
Happy Thanksgiving!! m
1. Mac's mom got on the lung transplant list this week!
2. Mac, who is lovely, and sweet, and rescued all my pants from the dry cleaner so I have something to wear to work this week (the real work of knights in shiny armor).
3.All of you, my triathlon family.
4.Triathlon, which keeps making me a smarter, better, happier person in all sorts of ways I never expected.
Okay what's on my list:
1) family, friends and EN
2) My wife getting a job
3) Really happy that Thanksgiving is in October in Canada so that I can just focus on OS workouts, work and other life challenges.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Gordon
I am going to embaraas her (again), but I am grateful for friends like Carrie Chavez.
Six years ago I met Carrie for the first time at a Starbucks and I had no clue about running. My wife knew her and set-up the pow wow. I had made a decision that I was going to run a marathon on my 40th birthday but had never been a runner in my life. EVER. I had lost close to 90 pounds and had no idea where to start. Carrie spent over an hour telling me about things I had never heard of like gels, body glide, real running shoes and the like. I had a training plan I got from RunnerWorld.com or someplace and she basically ripped it up and told me how it was gonna be.
In short, she helped me complete that marathon on my 40th. She even gave me the idea to put a sign on my back that said, "Welcome to my 40th birthday party for you and 20,000 of my closest friends." I had the birthday song sung to me a couple of dozen times on that run. Was fun.
One day while training for that marathon I called her and said I just didn't want to run. I was tired, fatigued, etc. She said, "just go run 1 mile and if you want to stop after that then stop." You know what? I have done that "1 mile" many, many times over these past few years and I have NEVER stopped.
Thanks, Carrie, for all the support these last 6+ years to me and Cheryl. And now EN. Been an awesome ride. You ROCK!
I am thankful for my family, my job, and wonderful friends. I am thankful for the 55 lbs. I have lost since March. I am very thankful for finding EN and all of the wonderful. supportive people that make Triathlon the unique, fantastic sport I love. With the work required here, and the support of people like all of you, I will realize my dream of completing my first IM. I have no doubt about that, whatsoever!
And lastly, I am thankful for those people who invented Kleenex and Nyquil, as I make my way through the flu!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Go Team Turkey!
John, awesome story! What a great journey.
Hi November Peeps( Team Turkey, Team " Holy Crap" )
John, Wow! I remember that day very well. Thanks for getting my tears going this am. They seem to be flowing quite easily these days.
I am currently going through some "tests", "procedures" and the last one was yesterday. This last one requires me to lay low for the next 3-4 days. I did not expect that as they decided to do a more in depth precedure at the last minute. So I am currently VERY grateful for my perspective on things. That resting for a few days is no biggie and just a blip on the radar screen of my OS, my IM training, and my life. Maybe 10 few years ago resting on a holiday week would have caused angst. But the peace that comes with age and maturity is so awesome. My results come back Monday. Prayers and more prayers. Seems to be all I do now. Hanging on to all that is good and wonderful in my life.
Make it a great day. Push a little extra on your intervals for me.
XO Carrie
I am thankful for:
Great thread - I'm thankful for my children, my training partner and best friend, my ex-husband who is very generous to me and our children and has made going through a divorce as easy as it can be, the chance I have to be in grad school to obtain my teaching certificate, a part time job I enjoy, and lastly for Mike B. showing me the EN way, which I thoroughly enjoy and find so much better than the way I was doing things before!! Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
First and foremost, always thankful for Keith, my husband of 28 years and partner for the last 32. More than half our lives together, and he is still my best, best friend.
My 4 sons who are moral, loving, socially conscious, and very, very good to each other. The beauty of their friendship with each other, and their connection to me and their dad is all the thanks I need as a mother.
Thankful that I had the courage to strike out on my own, and be able to maintain a private consulting business since 1991. The flexibility makes doing this tri thing a lot easier.
My health, and the ability to move my legs, arms, lungs, et al that make this amazing lifestyle possible.
Maine
The lovely new soul in my life, my puppy Cali.
The people who buoy me and make me feel whole--I include many of you here in EN in that group for which I am most grateful.
Thankful for my family. Wife and two young boys 5 & 3. For OUR health. For all my friends spread around the country. For new teammates. For work. For the ability to be active.
Happy Turkey Day.
John, great story - I can't wait for the movie!!
Carrie, we'll all be thinking about you this weekend. You're so strong, I'm sure there's nothing that can bring you down!
For my list, I'm going to type the words from my 7year old's "I am thankful" book that he brought home...and then read to me...twice, and then to Mom! Each item has a hand drawn picture, but I'm not going to scan them!
What a great kid. How wonderful it would be to see the world through eyes like his again.
Mike
Work was great! I am fortunate to be a PT and can help people for a living!
Steve and Madison spent a few hours with his Mom today. She was d/c from hospital Tuesday and is hanging in there. Just tired.
After work I picked up the family and we went back to our friends house( from am) for dinner. A dinner of all friends without family nearby. It was so nice. My friends are truly my family out here!!
I have made it 4 days without training:-). I am hanging tough. Will start with a little run tomorrow and then back at it full throttle with the Sat ride/brick. My legs and body are so rested. Weird to take time off when nothing hurts. I think I will have to seriously hold my legs back tomorrow.
I am hopeful the tests all come back with good news, but am prepared for anything. Thanks to you all for your prayers and words of encouragement.
Carrie
Thought I would share a couple of pics from this morning that Carrie noted. Always fun to bring family to these fun runs. Madison rocked it on her mom and dad's behalf! That little girl is fast! Wonder where she got those genes?
Here is Carrie looking like a movie star with Madison. Carrie even brought along cinamon rolls for the kids!
Here is Princess Madison with my son, Nolan, on the right and Tom Glynn's son, Parker, on the left. Nicole is in the back and is the daughter of another friend.
And can't go without a pic of Tom finishing up one of the 2 x 1.5 mile intervals.
Was a great way to start a great day. I hope everyone had a great Turkey Day as well.
