Week 4 - Run Thread

Going a little off schedule this week due to the Turkey day. Did the 2 x 1.5 mile today after work at the gym. The treadmill really kicks my butt.

2 x 1.5 @ 6:32 and 6:35 pace.

Next run with be in Minn with the Twin Cities sleeper cell at the Drum Stick dash 10K than post race coffee and doughnuts

  • my wed run I think I did yesterday, wrote about it at end of "Attila the Hun" race report. going to do my brick run this morning but weather might not allow for ride!! have son's dog with me so enjoying running!!! m
  • I've been struggling to fit those darn brick runs in on Tuesday.  Can't get up early enough, and work seems to be taking up the evenings.  Looking forward to the Drumstick dash with the visiting Chicago gang.  Got the doughnut maker ready to rock!

  • So who else is saving up the Wed hard run for a turkey trot event??? image

Team Boyle is heading to Somerville, MA for the Gobble Gobble 4 miler. Last year there was a dude (who I think was actually hammered) in a full turkey suit who ran <6' miles. Trying to talk the other half into suiting up!</p>

  • 8 mile Turkey Trot here in Dallas on Thursday. I should definitely get a new vDot out of it.
Then we go drink beer right and eat breakfast burritos afterwards, when we're all drained and light-headed, and negate all the calories we just burned!
  • I am shifting the week around to accommodate the Galloping Gobbler 4 miler.  It is a hilly run in a cemetery.  I guess you can go for broke and have a place to lay your head if you blow up.

The event draws a good crowd and should be a good litmus test of my current progress.  It is also fun to have a calorie deficit going into the afternoon Turkey-Day meal.

  • I'm another one that is saving my Wednesday run for a Thursday Turkey trot instead.

Gotta have another banana sighting!  I was thinking of doing Cohasset or Hingham, but might come up to Somerville to see Dave in the running banana!

    Mike

  • haha! Mike- don't give him ideas. Dave was saying the other night that he might just run in the banana every race.

He might be game for the turkey bid though...still working on him.

  • Did my run last night because of holiday pool hours...2 x "1 mile" of water running intervals. Blessed be that waterproof iPod case for saving my sanity.

  • I will be running the Skaneateles totally informal turkey trot. It is a little less than 3 miles. Thinking of doing bike intervals in the am to stay on sked.
  • Hayes, and anybody else that wants to chime in...why does the treadmill kick u ?
I'm doing 90% of my running on treadmill and I find it easier, based on comparable pace vs heart rate.
    Agree? Disagree ?

I run at a 1% grade and there is no air movement which might not be bad in a basement but I'm running at the hot gym. I  do not have music or TV which makes the time just go by so slow. I generally find running outside better/faster - probably more mental. Not sure.

I did my 25' EZ run today at lunch on the mill - Shoot me. The only worse than running fast on a treadmill is running slow. Booooring.

  • I'm also saving my Wednesday night run for the brand new turkey trot in my area - however, my 11 year old has now said she wants to run it so if I need to run it with her I'll do her pace so it may not be quite what I'm supposed to do but anything to encourage her running - image. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  • Saving the Wed run for a Thursday morning 10 miler through some forested trails with some buds.  Great way to start Turkey Day.  Been doing that run for 3 years.  Doing today's brick run on Wednesday and Thursday's ride Friday.  Back to norm on Saturday.  All gonna hurt!!

  • Doing the run on Thursday at the Drumstick Dash 10K. Looking forward to running hard and maybe a new vDot!
  •  Hey kathy....Bill, me, and Noodle (josh) are running as well....we're meeting post race for coffee and food! join us!

  • Did my run today. OUCH! College kids back in town and we are playing a couple hours a day s legs are fried after runs and rides. Fortunately, Thursday for me is a light day.
  • Off for my 1-hour run (4 x 1/2mi (3') @ Z4/TP before it rains this morning. It's getting dark out there...
  • Typically, I get all my runs in after work, but had to do it this am before work and I haven't done that in a long, long, time.

I got it done, but it was hard.  My 1.5 mile intervals both had good solid climbs in them so I know I didn't hit my TP, but I'm hoping at least the NGP is close.

Doing the Tues bike/run and Wed run in a 14 hour span is not optimal.

Bill, I'm probably one of the few exceptions, but I love running on the treadmill.  Totally controlled, and one of the few times I can run without significant hills.  Never have to look at my watch to check my pace, and a big fan in my face keeps me from overheating.  Of course, having a TV in front of me helps a ton!  I'm not sure about easier...

Hayes, thanks for the invite!  Will you guys have your EN shirts on?  Not sure about meeting up after, I will be with my nephew, but he may be up for some donuts .  I will look for you all.

Lisa - I can guarantee that a turkey trot with your daughter will be more rewarding than banging out a workout by yourself.  This is the out-season, where we reconnect with out families, ourselves, our jobs...and get in some good quality work.  Do the turkey trot at 17:00min pace, and give your daughter a big hug at the end.

Hey, you want to get in some intervals?  Bring a camera, and every mile or so sprint up ahead to be her personal paparazzi.

    Mike

  • Mike,
Same here....although I can run a given pace on TM at 8+- bpm LOWER than outside. I always put it on 1% UP but its still easier. Maybe something in my stride/form, not sure.
I've just decided, for this OS, to stick with it because its reiable and convenient, and do all testing on it. I think it also allows us to think about form more than outside.

  • 2x1 miles with the new vdot. At I only overcooked it a little bit. It came out medium rare instead of rare.

    1: 7:58

    2.7:50

    Projected: 8:02.

Have fun tomorrow, Turkey Trotters! Pain cave for me and my "pie brick" I saved from Tuesday.

  • Got my 2x1 done this morning. vDot is still under constructions, but I'm beginning to fell like normal again.

I'll be wearing ALL RED mizuno flats and tights with some yellow. All my EN stuff is summer wear. Probably a red long sleeve shirt too or blue maybe.

  • I did my 2x1mile but didn't have any idea what to do after the intervals so I EZ paced it with my son.

Were we supposed to do new vDots? I thought the Run for the Hungry 10k tomorrow would establish a new vDot as I'm going to go hard for the first 5k then back it off.

    Ideas?

  • Jogged to the track as warm-up early this morning then 2 x 1.5 miles at 7:00 pace. That was a little too fast for me. I'm shelled... Ready for the holiday! Travel safely...

  • Happy Holidays all! I was feeling lazy today and had to get the stick out. Not sure if it's the "Thanksgiving Holiday Cheer" or the after effects of yesterday's over zealous brick. Probably a little bit of both?

Completed the 2 X 1.5s @ 6:40 and 6:50 per the Garmin, 7.0 total @ 7:38 pace but legs were hammered by the time I finished. The last half mile on the second interval going uphill felt like it was going to kill me!

I am sending strong Holiday vibes to all in the family! SS
  • I managed to get my run in today.   25'@z2 (7:30) and 2x1.5miles ;z4(6:57).  I felt a little sluggish and was just a touch slower than target pace.  Total of 6.5 miles in 48:30.  Felt good to get it done though.
