Week 5 Bike Numbers

  • Legs finally felt better than the weekend so I pushed it back up to see what I had.  Feezing cold though on the run after at 28* outside and soaking wet from jumping off the trainer.

    1X15'= 104%.  1X15'=  102%,  and 12'= 85%.  Total of .90 for 1 hour.

    Bring on the run tomorrow.

  • Trent - that's why I ride outside.  I can never get myself to go from the basement to the cold.  By the time I get off the trainer I am drenched and going outside in the cold to run would be miserable.

    Good job getting it done.

  • The motivation here is unbelievable.  Got my 2 x 15's done this morning at 103% and 100% - although my cadence on #2 was dropping into the 72 range.  Total thigh burnout.  Early am conf call this am so brick run gets moved to Thurs.  Spent rest of the day enjoying the numbness in the legs.

You guys are animals - all this talk about 21 degree running.  I'm feeling really guilty for planning tommorrows run intervals on the treadmill.

  •  I think I was seeing stars toward the end....

Earned another watt of FTP tonight. Afraid to test without the group

2 X 15' @ 1.11 and 1.06 ----- Big'ol fade at the end. Opening 22 mins at 92% put me in a nice hole. Just felt like suffering tonight. Tomorrow could get really really ugly

    Fist bumps all around tonight....

    - all this talk about 21 degree running.

Please note - 21 degree talk is in regard to riding only.  Coldest run for me last year was -5deg.  When your eyelashes freeze together when you blink, you're getting close to it being to cold to run outside.

  • After reading everyone's results, I sucked it up and suffered through my 2 x 15 done at exact 100% last night. Thanks for the motivation every one!
  • Peetered out a bit on 2nd interval but felt good about it and the run afterwards. Everyone has a cold in my house so I'm praying to stay healthy!

  • Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one the was hurtin' last night.   I didn't have access to the forums yesterday so I didn't get to see all the sufferin'.

Got back on the trainer for the first time in 2 weeks after riding outside for a nice stretch.

    1st 15' felt good - 315w

2nd 15' was by far, the mentally toughest yet this OS.  It took every drop of the mental six pack not to bag it after 7, 8, 9, or 10 minutes.  Even though I couldn't hold steady watts, I gritted my teeth and tried as best I could to suck it up and make it hurt more to hurt less.  I finished with 303w.

    I eeked out 15' @ 83%

After a wipe down of me and my bike, I changed and headed out for another spooky night run with my headlamp.  Clear night, full moon.  Perfect.

    Dave

  • Hayes!! that's a great ride!! only in the OS do you see lines like "well, I was a little tired after my 22 min warm up at .9...".

Totally, I had an hour and wanted it to count. I was a mess when it was over.....

  • Late reply.

Rode last night at the cycling center.

    • 2 x 15 - 110%, 112%
    • 2 x 15 - 98%, 98%
  • UNCLE!  WTF!?  How the hell do you all do it?

I started this week  "focusifying" my OS on the run (by far my weakness) so I am riding on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Failed to muster the resolve to ride outside this morning (cold and foggy) and I paid the price tonight.  First solo pain cave ride since like January.   DDDAAAAAMMMMMNNNNNN!!

Failed at both attempts at the 15's.  Melted at around 7 minutes in on both and just grunted to the end with watts cratering.  Totally amazing the difference between the pain cave and outside.  I know from experience it will take a few times to get in the pain cave groove.  But that was NOT fun.

    I know, I am a wuss.    I admit it.

  • CRACKED!   Knew I was in trouble when during my 10' warm up at 73% my legs felt dead.  Hope that like previous rides they would feel better, stronger as time went on.  Not today.  Got through the first 12' interval at 105% but it took all the physical and mental I had to hold it together.  Right out of the gate the 2nd 12' hurt.  Fought the batlle for 9' at which point I cracked.  Legs just couldn't push pedals.  Stopped for about 10 sec to let the load/resistance on CT reduce and tried getting started again, after about 10 seconds no go.  Let load drop and then restarted.  After about 30 secs of recomposing myself and trying to get the pedals to turn over I managed to get my cadence up hold on for the last 2-2 1/2 minutes.  An ugly second 12' at 102%.  Rode a little at 89% (not because I wanted to ride that hot but that was what the ERG file was set at) before decided to call it a day at 50' total ride time for IF of 0.92.

I am so looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow and giving the legs some R&R.

  • Got it done this morning, did not feel the mojo today, but pushed thru anyways.  Also, did the ttbikefit analysis.  WOW!  what a difference they made for me on the tribike. This week I am getting the bike adjusted as they recommended and see how much of a difference it makes.  These numbers being posted are on my road bike on a trainer.  I am going to have him look that me on that and see what improvements I can make on it.  Have a great morning guys.

  • Today's number look way better than Tuesday's. I just joined this Group and after seeing how you guys approach the Zones, I bumped up my effort and it felt great. Thanks!

Steve Maxim...No MOJO?  You kidding me.  Dude you need a bump in your FTP on wko+!!!   Your intervals had IF's of 1.24 and 1.07 for the entire ride?  That means you rode your intervals at 124% of your FTP and the entire hour at 107%. Someone has made some serious gains. Where can I buy you a drink?...and where do you buy your koolaide? I want me some of that.

  • "I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. Didn't want to do it, but I felt I owed it to them."

That's how I felt going in to the hurt barn this monring. Felt I owed it to them.

In an ill advised bit of hubris I told a training buddy last night that today's plan called for only 10 min intervals and while I'm fine working the intermediate run program, I should probably be doing more on the bike. So I was going to absolutely CRUSH todays intervals. What a tool. Me not him. Well, he's kind of a tool too.

Battled the plan to a draw: 2 x 10' @ 318 and 315w, have no ideer what the "85" remainder was. I see we're going to 2x15 next week. Think I'll stay put. Kudos to the advanced studs and studettes, especially for handling that run volume on top of the big intervals.

Pretty cool in a sick sort of way how the plan just kind of gradually leaches your strength away over a few weeks. Gains are made in recovery, I reckon. Speaking of which, I got some Recoverite "Citrus". Should be named "Shitrus". That stuff is nasty. image
  • Had a sluggish start in my warm up today but all my joints got moving in teh end.
2x10 for me @ 101 and 100 % with 17 min at 85%. Was a pretty good ride after the start!

I had steam coming off of my in the garage it was so cold in there today! weird for texas!

@Steve - Holy Crap you should have a big gain on your next test!!

@ stark - yeah Its not called pain cave for nothin!
  • Today was pretty darn tough after the last two days. It's always one of those mental games "oh...it's only 2x12. Tuesday was waaaaay longer so this will be a walk in the park." ha! tell my legs that!

2x12 as 210 + 208. nice to see the bumped numbers two days in a row now. time to trust them and keep seeing them.

The Haus is beggining to heat up and thaw out this Cold Snap it seems this morning.  Philip, nice job this morning bro!  Especially considering the day after coming off the run intervals.  We are seeing 33 degrees in Austin as well, something quite cold for us!  Will report bakc to the team on mine after lunch.  Pain cave should be a little warmer by then.

  • Tough day for me as well but I got the main set done and then managed to get 10 minutes at 85% before I called it quits. I skipped my normal 30 minute brick I do on thursday as I figured my legs needed a break.

Way to push through it everyone, I almost gave up but knew you guys would be getting the work done.
  • @ Leigh - I think your numbers are going to be quite scary if we give you 2 - 3 days of rest, the way you keep crushing it day after day with the fatigue load!  Keep raising the bar for us!

  • Got on the horse, and knocked out 2 x 12' at 247 (107%) and 15' at 201 (86%).  Tougher than I thought it was going to feel, but done is good!

  • On a funky schedule this week and getting very little sleep. It showed in Tuesday's bike - wow, was that a crap-fest. Things are very sore and tight and tired (to be fair, some of this is from non-tri activity). I didn't even bother to download the data yet because I was so disgusted, but I'd guess I was 15 watts off of where I should be. I gave up after the MS. image
  • Add me to the list of people who had problems this morning. I attempted to do my 2x15's since I lost it on Tuesday. Got through the first one at 1.025 and caved on the 2nd. Much like Aaron I stopped for short periods of time and then got going again. I ended up with .93 for the 2nd 15. Overall I did 50 minutes @ .867.

  • No numbers for me for the ride today or any this week, due to the wheel getting fixed at Saris.  However, did get on the trainer and did what I thought was WORK  and called it good.  Sure miss that pt..

  • Epic fail of 2x10 this morning. I learned serious suffeirng while boyfriend in studying next to me doesn't work. Ah, double-booked pain cave. Does anyone else need to suffer alone/suffer only with co-suffering interval do-ers in the pain cave?

Also, my new bike seems to be rocking quite a bit more than the old one in the trainer. Any tricks to stabilize it? The only major switch was going from an ultegra quick release to a mavic quick release lever.

    I'll try again after work.

  • Hi Team "Holy Crap"

You are all knocking it out of the park!!  Even when it is tough you are doing all you can!!  Motivating indeed

My week is all catywampus....I started it Tuesday with the run intervals, then yesterday ( wed) swam for the first time in one month. Could hardly pour my coffee when I got home. My arms were jacked up. Then a few hours later did the 2 x 15's. My legs were so tired from the 4 x 1 mile repeats and the swim that I struggled like there was no tomorrow. Yelping, grunting, expletives....not pretty but I did what I could. Worked on the mental 6 pack I guess by not quitting. WHO SAID THIS OS WAS GOING TO BE EASY???  RIGHT??? WORKWORKS!!!

    2 x 15 as 95% and 90%( yikes)

    then 10 at 84%

Need to go to work now but will bust out my 2 x 12's tonight. I have never done the bikes 2 days in a row. Will see how it goes. It is hard when the week is out of order. Next week I should be back into a normal groove.

Keep it up peeps. I am impressed with you all
