Spent the past 7 days being the "lead sibling" dealing with my brothers death and all his affairs and it has left me tattered, shelled and wickedly spent. Cancelled going out with Tom Glynn today for the FTP test cuz I am not ready in the head or heart. But after reading all the mojo today I am getting my "git 'r dun" gumption back. Will go out tomorrow and make it happen.
Mr. Ambrose, Mr. Glynn and Mr. McMahon . . . . The Stick is coming out. Be ready! {THWACK!}
Posted By Todd Glass on 02 Nov 2009 01:25 PM I havee done very little since IMCdA. It was a pretty hilly course and I managed to run a very even paved race. 3rd overall with 6:00 min/mile. I will probably head back to the track later this week for the real test.
Todd, you are killing me. Good job, but you are killing me. I can't run that fast down hill with the wind to my back (or chasing Tom Glynn). Good work!
John, I'm on it. I postponed my FTP test so I could have a day off before it. We had a great weekend weather-wise last weekend, so had to do an outdoor ride with friends. Might be the last one of the season. Today was off, and tomorrow is D-Day on the trainer.
Did to a 20' interval during the ride yesterday to get my head ready for tomorrow. Now I know it is going to hurt ...
Rumble. Is that what my legs did when i got off the bike? I thought it was buckle. First newbie test with HR only. Fun and hard work. Good Mojo from all team members really helps. God luck to everyone that is hitting it tonight or tomorrow.
Little rusty I guess on the testing. 222 on interval one and 228 on interval two. Combined it worked out to a 222. Quite a bit below where I was at Lake Placid, but that just gives me more room for improvement .
I probably didn't do myself any favors but did mine outside because it was just too darn pretty not to! Got 168 as my number. I did a test in a lab in June, got my PT in July and used 175 until now. I never did any other tests this year - I just didn't know any better ! So it was fairly close. The only problem I had was I was out of air way before my legs were out of steam it seemed like - not sure whats up with that!? Glad everyone had so much fun!!!!
Did my 40 min TT inside on a trainer and holy crap it was hard. I don't have a PT yet, so I'm going off of heart rate only. I found it odd that I couldn't get (and maintain) my HR anywhere near as high as I do out side on the road? Is that normal?
Came home from work a bit early totally stoked to knock out the FTP test and set myself up for great OS. Did not start OS last year with PM so no data pre/post OS!!
Long story short...... Got a new trainer that holds wheel really close to ground, so new block. Could not seem to get it dialed in just right on pressure on the tire. Either felt like I was in mud or "spinning" with almost no resistance. On top of the fact that this was first time on tri bike since Sept 24th when I did Spokane Oly Tri and it was a disaster.
Ended up at FTP of 217 and I was hoping for much higher. Not sure about the inside/outside comparison and using different trainer, etc. OH, I also changed batteries in the hub Saturday getting everything ready and did not re-calibrate, etc.
Already made my first mistake of OS - yesterday was such a nice Fall day that I went for a "short jog" that ended up being 12 miles in 1h25m. Felt strong afterwards but felt it a bit in my legs this morning so delayed the bike test until tonight. That meant I had the bike test hanging over my head all day! Anyway, into the pain cave tonight and hammered out a good test on the trainer. The Kurt Kinetic power meter didn't record my average watts (annoying!) but I was at 230W all the way through and the speed I averaged equates to 230W so I am taking that for the moment. Glad that one is in the bank - looking forward to the run test on Wed (I think!).
Nice job all, I think the whole point of today is to suffer. I nearly booted at the end of my test and had that awful fade in set two as well. From Champ to Scamp.
I actually got off my bike to pee during the 2' break, so I figger I can swag a 305 out of this. OUCH! Full report coming soon, you can watch the video here (be sure to check out 47:15 after I finish!)
Good Job, P. I don't think I have ever seen you that serious before. Caught the first 5 minutes and last 2 minutes. And was that a bit of bile there at 47:15? The sound and look on your face is priceless.
felt really good, although i was definitely a little conservative in the first interval. the second one was tough and some hard core music got me through the last 13 minutes really pushing the pace. new FTP is 239 on the trainer . i'll take it because i ended last year on the trainer at 228 and this year outside on the tri-bike at 245. Got my test knocked out this evening after putting the kiddies to bed. I was sick with H1N1 (I think) for most of last week, and then ran a half-marathon wearing a suit (costume!) on Saturday with Noodle. SO...I don't think my legs were in ideal shape. Nevertheless, I buckled in and got 'er done.
I think I ended the OS last year with my indoor watts around 225-230, so ~10% drop, which isn't bad considering I hardly biked this summer. I'll take it. One of my better tests in terms of pacing, so good enough!
That has got to be one of the best/worst vid posts of all time. If my wife came home and found me even looking at a video of someone suffering on a trainer in their basement, she might leave me.
Posted By CoachP on 03 Nov 2009 04:15 AM 2010 is the year of keeping it real. Coach P is going to suffer in the trenches with the troops. Great job Keith and everyone else!!!

Very real! It was like seeing a car accident. I wanted to look a way but couldn't stop watching. I was wondering how much you would be able to actually talk to the camera. You got quiet pretty fast.
Sounds like everyone is really cranking it out! Have to postpone my OS week one until next week, due to some piriformis and IT Band issues. Yikes, I'm gonna have to work my @$$ off to hang with this crowd! Good job everyone!

Doing mine tonight.....
