Happy Christmas - you gonna run?

I notice that xmas is a rest day.  Will you be resting?  Even with the running challenge?  Before we had babies my wife and I would always go for a longish run on xmas morning before mimosa's, a nice breakfast and present opening.  Since babies it has generally been a day of no running or anything else.  At this point now that the kids are a bit older they will be so into playing with the new stuff that I think I could get a run in without anyone noticing at all. Thoughts?  Advice?

  • I know what you mean about the very little kids. Most years there was no opportunity to get in a run. But just as you describe, life moves on, kids get a bit older, and as parents you discover  windows of flexibility where they didn't exist before. You can run tomorrow if you want to. You will see--the kids will be busy and no one is impacted.

Ever since my kids got to the point where, as Chris described, I could run on Xmas day, I do. I'll be out tomorrow, maybe even with a silly bow on my hat. I'll keep it short, though--30-40'.

  •  No kids to hold me back.  But we will be with family.  I'm hoping my nieces (now in HS/college) will consider running with me (as major soccer, field hockey, basketball kids- they'll probably whoop my old slow butt!)

  • JnI are about to run the boyz right now, with their jingle-bells collars on (mutant reindeer). She is on call tomorrow but likely not working = another family run.

  • Half mary for me at 4:30am on Christmas morning - I'm hoping to see some reindeer still flying around the sky! Conor's internal alarm clock inevitably fires at 6:30am, and I'm pretty darn sure that tomorrow will be no exception. So I've got to start kind of early since I won't be hammering it.

Who's idea was this %&*#@^* Run Challenge anyway?!?

that is an aggressive plan.  But then if you are gonna run 100 miles you really have to huh?

  • Most definitely gonna run. Just need to work out timing with wife. May run over to the in-laws and meet them there so around 7-8 miles. Merry Christmas to all!
  • Definitely running. Need those endorphins to help me through an afternoon with the in-laws. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful and love 'em... Just sayin'

My oldest is 14 now. We'll probably have to pull him out of bed. Wow... The morning magic is gone! When did that happen?

    Good luck to Mr. Hedman.

  • Running. I'm thinking nice run by the lake, listening to Victoria's "Ave Maria Stellis." Plus, I practiced the sport of brunch today instead of working out. Oops.
  • I'm in for running. We are travelling so early down to the hotel gym and get er done. Young kids but we talked Santa into coming early since we wouldn't be home image
  • There will be running!
  • I plan on running tomorrow afternoon. My parents live at the top of a hill here, with a .4 mile loop around it - so I'll be doing hill repeats up that 1/4 mile hill, then recovery around the .4 mile loop. The plan is 8+ times for tomorrow. Hopefully it'll happen the way I want it to!

  • I have a wicked champagne hangover, but I'm gonna go do it - both to punish myself for drinking all that champagne and to test fly the foot pod Santa brought me!
  • Went out this morning at 6:00 am 24 degrees, ran for 2 hours 15 miles.  Day 1   18 points, feeling great for Christmas now.

Hope you all have a great day !!!!!

  • Merry Xmas!

  • In the bank - 13.7 in 2 hours. It was REALLY cold, but when I checked it was "only" 36 degrees. But I did start off at 4:15am - there's GOT to be some bonus point for that!?!?

  • Great job Mike and everyone else. Way to get it done!

We all jumped on the bandwagon to crush Mike, now it is time to give him all the encouragement we can so that he can crush 100+ miles over the next few days.

    Happy holidays all!
  • Way to go Mike! Only 87 more to go!

    Merry Christmas
  • 10 points in the bank. Felt good to get out there. I didn't even consider a mile at threshold. Wasn't gonna happen. 1200 calories in the bank to blow on some wine and beer.
  • 10.4 miles @ 8:07 avg (my exact Z1 pace) in 69 degree weather. Don't think I'll get any extra points for cold weather in the next week either! I don't see much threshold work in the next week either, especially when I'm pushing the miles up. Merry Christmas all.
  • Yup. Im going stir crazy waiting for my wife to give birth, so good quick run was right up the alley for me. Just a quick 4, but felt good enough. Time for turkey.
