Day 1

Day 1 of the run challenge done... 6 miles and 1 hour. Unfortunately it doesn't get cold in South Texas so no extra points there instead had to push threshold pace (3 miles).

It's nice to get out and run the roads with no traffic. How is everyone else doing today?

  • Short run for me, just over 3 miles.  About 35 degrees but there is still a lot of ice on the roads, and on the walkway up to the house.

Saw one other runner and a guy shoveling snow off of his roof, as far as I am concerned the crazy points go to the guy shoveling is roof, there is less than a foot out there now.

    3 points for me

  • Ran 3 miles outside in 21min, its 12 degrees with 28mph wind= -20 windchill on the plains of rural Kansas. I have never been so cold or motivated to run fast simply to stay warm. Only 4 more sets to go, I just need to warm up!! Merry Christmass!! (pics to come!!)
  • What a beautiful and peaceful day here in Massachusetts. No wind, sunny. Still below freezing but just wonderful. Just over 6miles in just over an hour. Gotta shower so we can head to the movies and out for Chinese food. That's what Jewish folks do on 12/25.

  • Merry Christmas!! 7 miles in one hour today post-Santa mayhem! Drizzly rain with a brutal wind off Lake Michigan did not feel like 41 degrees!! Still, with that wind had to put in a couple miles at threshold....10 pts for Day 1.  Good luck to all, the fact that we're chatting about how much we can run on Christmas Day means we're all pretty fortunate. Take care.

  • Merry Christmas.  Quick run on the beach with the dogs in between brunch and lunch.

Took a couple of pictures and once I figure out how to load them, I will.

  • Merry Xmas!

    Lap #2 (Run):

  • Since I have high schoolers they sleep late even on Christmas, allowed me to get a long one in.  Ran 15 miles in 2 Hours, temp was 24 degrees here in NH at 6:00 am.   Enjoyed getting  my 18 points on day one, had the roads to myself, think I saw 3 cars the entire run.

    Merry Christmas all,  enjoy !!!!

  • Bob shames me by putting up a monster 15 to start things off - way to go!

I left the house at about 4:15am - I saw one bike and a couple of paper boy cars.  I started to get pretty darn cold as the run went on (sweat had soaked through, and my gloves were pretty wet).

But it felt good, and put 15.7 points up for 13.7 miles and 2 hours.

    The game is afoot!

    Mike

  • 4 points for me, 3 miles in sub 32.  pics to come!!  me and Rudy, enjoyed a solitary run on an overcast, extremely windy day, after two days of rain.  As such, we were both itching to run and I let him "run free" off leash so he got in about 4 - 5 miles!!  he got soaked and ice up his legs!!  when he jumped in a frozen puddle.  Just a great way to start off Christmas morning, seeing deer, squirrels, and Rudy running all out, "gonna dog him out" had new meaning as Rudy has been chilled and laying around ever since, my purpose so we could enjoy Christmas morning!!  m

  • Just over an hour and 6 miles for me today in beautiful 17 degree weather and only a 16 mph wind!
  • Tested out the screw shoes on the trails for a 32 min run. #8 x 1/2" sheet metal screws are the way to go! 39 degrees here---how is it colder in AR than in Upstate NY?!

  • Merry Christmas! 10 miles in the dark , 28 degrees( have to do runs early in Nor Cal to get extra cold points as it is in the 60's now), over 1 hour = 12 Points.

While waiting for Madison to wake up (she slept till 7:50 Christmas am???)had a calf massage from Steve. This run challenge will be tough because I have chronically tight and sore calves. Compression sleeves on post massage. We opened gifts, I drank Dunkin Donuts coffee my folks sent for Christmas and I headed to work. Just finished a free Holiday meal that the hospital provides to staff!! Fueled and ready for tomorrow's run!

    Carrie

  • Headed up to the Rivertrail and there is a tree decorated for Christmas, so I took my camera today!

Oh boy!  this was our first time to run "off leash" and you can see Rudy was pretty excited... this is always one of my favorite sections of the trail...  The Arkansas River is to the right and this little inlet is off to the left...

Excellent viewing area for Deer and sure enough we saw some as they crossed.

another tree decorated and Rudy checks out the woods

Finally the sun comes out as we turn back...

  • Merry Christmas all! Cold in PA ... but not cold enough for the extra point. Rainy 5 miles - 4 at LT - so 5 points!
    Game on!
    Paul
  • Am I doing something wrong? The point calculator shows 15.5!?
    5 miles (4 at LT) 32+ degrees
    Thanks, Paul
  • okay it wasn't pretty, but 4.5 miles (2 at TP) / 39° avoided almost every puddle.

  • Sorry, meant TP, not LT
  • A little over 6 miles, one hour, 3 miles (total) above threshold on the track before work. I never get to use the track so it was a nice change. Merry Christmas!
  • I've been feeling especially lazy since IMAZ.  Today was planned to be my third run in a month of forced downtime.

Here in Iowa we were treated to an ice storm last night.  This is the view out my windows this morning:

That made me feel even lazier about running today.  Maybe when I open my garage door it will be better, but NO!  I'm treated to my usual drift in front of the garage and the plowmans treat at the front of the driveway:

The question is... who could get me to run on a day like this.  Cold wind, icy roads, uncleared sidewalks...

    The Running Ninja!

45 minutes of running on ice covered roads.  Dodging snow plows and people talking on cell phones.  What could be better???  Merry Christmas!

I think that is 9 points, 5 for 5 miles and 1 point each for 4 miles at TP

  • Think problem is in the cell for calulation on points for miles @ threshold.  Even with a zero in the miles, it reads 6.5

BTW.... EN Chickas Rule is off to a commanding lead!    GO TEAM!!

  • Someone must have inadvertently "touched" the yellow cells that were supposed to be left alone. I'll go in and 'fix' them.

Update: Okay - it should work now.

  • I did 3.2 miles of run/  walk since  being gentle with my knee. It was 41degrees in NJ. I'll try  to do same route tomorrow with pics, really pretty spot with bay on one side and a pond on the other, with snow covered fields

  • Full out 7.4 miles in 1:01:53. Ran with my nephew (98 lbs, 13 year-old, national level) in the canyons of Arizona. 3.7 UP and 3.7 DOWN. At close to 200 lbs I was at a clear disadvantage, and he was pulling me the whole way. I was above LT for all 7.4 miles... even downhill. I negative split the out-and-back by 7 minutes!

  • 4 miles in almost exactly 30 minutes ... bout all that could happen today

oh and its awesome that team dont need no stinkin team has 5 members

  • 3 miles, just above freezing in CT, no TP miles this time.

  • 9 points on the treadmill at the crack of dawn! A one hour run for 8 miles. Looked cold outside the hotel, but no points for that.

    tom
  • 7.2 miles, just over an hour, 2 at TP, a balmy 34, so no tundra points ... 10.2 total points, I think - nice to be getting back to the routine!
  • 8 miles with 6.5 at TP done as intervals. Felt pretty good until the 5th TP mile then just pushed it to the finish. Scored 15.5 pt for the day. I'm hoping to match DrD 2008's 106 pts. (just .5 behind Mike B at the wire......)

Looking forward to doing Sat a.m. indoors on our Y's banked track.

    Great to "challenged" again!

    John

  • I was riding herd on the family to get them out the door and into the blizzard to get to the airport in time to fly out to Boston....so....I wimped and went to SNAP fitness and rant two miles on the treadmill just to get SOMETHING in for the day. I'll have to pick up the slack the next 7 days. Merry Christmas all!!!
