Finally after two days of traveling I was able to get out and run with a temp just a degree above 0, have to love Minnesota weather! Logged in ten points! Do I get an extra point for the best snow beard?
The most impressive part of Damon's snow beard is that he had NO BEARD when he left the house; his body grew it as protection just in time before the Minnesotan cold hit him like a ton of bricks!!!!
Did a 3 mile brick after the VO2 session. Would have liked to gotten 7 in an hour but had to hurry - my sister-in-law needed a ride home from work......
Busy day at the fire house for me so I was only able to get 5 miles in but 2 at TP for 7 points. Was under and hour so couldn't get that additional point.
Today however will be hopefully 13 with a few at threshold and its under 30 degrees so we will see what happens.
Well just back from the gym and not sure if it was a break through or that I weighed in at 166 this morning and felt BOOM!!
13 miles in 1:46 (sorry Team Badger just couldn't get 2 hours in) BUT>>>>>>>>
5 miles though and TP (Tempo Pace) and 1 point for 1 hour
Only Carl hopes for 13 and gets 19 points! Well done sir. I have been doing a mix of slow/long runs to get time bonus (1 point) and miles without ripping off my legs. But some days I just don't have two hours to run slowly, so this morning I did mostly TP miles. However this might be tough to recover from and add more miles tomorrow. We'll see about combining TP with long/slow. Which is the right combo?
Honey Badger, he don't care!.... Nice work Carl....
Hey, what is the conversion for miles XC skiing? We finally got ski-able snow..... first time since BEFORE last winter! I gotta go ski but dont have the bandwidth to do the OS, the run challenge and ski too.
I'm pretty sure skiing in the dark on trails I will be slower than running, so will I get a point per mile plus any time & temp bonuses?
Got my first ski of the season (none last season at all...). Great conditions, not groomed but set track from others today. About 10" powder, full moon, 22*F and I was the only one out there. Always love night skiing.
I had just barely an hour to work with before picking wife up at the hospital so did a 30' out and back on a 4 mile loop. Ended up with exactly 5 miles in 61'. So using run challenge rules that would be 5 + 1 (temp) + 1 (hour) for 7 total.
Got in a mile yesterday when I should have been resting. 1 point for Dec 28th. Got 1 mile in on the treadmill this morning as an easy warmup before the bike workout. 1 point for Dec 29th.
I think I should get bonus points for: 1) not being able to feel my face during my run 2) being able to see nearly my entire snow covered route stretched out for miles in front of me. Think desolate desert road only with snow instead of sand.
Seriously though... The challenge is great. It motivated me to add an extra 10 minutes to get to that hour! And, I have to say I am proud of myself for doing that when it was only 15 degrees out (and windy!!)
Awesome 2 hour group snowshoe run in beautiful Gatineau Park. Super tough workout. Wish I was able to stop and take a few pics...it was nonstop running from the get-go.
Felt like a half marathon pace effort with periods of threshold pace thrown in when the snow got really deep or the course went uphill.
If you ever get the chance to try snowshoe running I highly recommend it. It's a ton of fun.
Late start today. Didn't get on the bike till 8:30 PM for my Saturday FTP session. Used the run portion a an excuse to get some more points. Bricked off the bike to the deadmill for 61 minutes. Unfortunatly I didn't have the mojo for any TP work and didn't really get the normal wko in either but I did manage 7.5 miles, 3 at EP and the rest at MP watching 2001 A Space Odyssey - what a wierd flick...... anyway, 8.5 more points for me.
@ Brent - nice work on the snowshoes.... bet that found some new muscles to be sore...
Back to the land of technology! Spent the week in Vicksburg, MS at my in-laws without internet access! Read through these posts and I am amazed that we have EN'ers out there in those conditions Damon and Kourtney are running in! I vote extra points for you both as I run in my balmy 34 degree South Texas climate!
Ok, I have to admit the run miles are starting to catch up with me. I laid down in my little girl's room last night at 8p to help her go to sleep and I woke up at 8.15a this morning. Guess I needed some extra rest. Just two more days left...
Did a 10 mile race yesterday. It is part of a winter series. I got second 40-44 AG the first time around at 12K. This time 4th. For some reason I wasn't as fresh this time? Course was ice covered and I saw a lot of people fall. I took 2 pair of racing flats but neither did very well. Trainers seemed to be working best. Ran 1:10:05. Got 2 downhill miles at Threshold. 15 miles today. Bonus for one hour.
@ Brent: great photo, even better workout. @ Steve: I have been doing the advanced marathon plan leading up to Jan OS. Having 6 of the 8 days off helps.
Great #'s everyone! Finally made it out today after a good FTP hr on the bike2x10@100% + 1x5@100%. only planed on .5 hrs so had to make em count. 4 mile 2 at TP + 1 point for -2C temp. Need to get to bigger days in to stay respectable with this group.
Well nothing impressive today but hung on for a little over 8 miles. I'm really feeling this on the fat bod. Suppose to run 26 miles with Hedge Hog-Jason Mason tomorrow for the final run. Loading up on water and praying I'm not getting the flu!! I'm going to just think 3x8 mile segments and see what happens.
Need to be rested also for the start of OS. Mmmm is there enough recovery time??
@ Carl... no need to rest! Look at me, I'm in week 9/10 of NOS and still racking up the miles. What ever happened to "Honey Badger dont care..." attitde?
Well got another run in today on the DM: The Avatar Half Marathon II. I did have to restart disk 2 in order to finish, but it was pretty good. No TP miles today, just a 2 mile war/ramp up to MP then steady on to the end. Garmin recorded 1:46:00 but Strava has 1:49:xx for some reason....
Barely hung on to add a few more miles to the total, but am just in awe of Steve and Brian and Carl. You guys are killing me!! One more day, I promise to leave it all out there for just one more day.

Damon - I would vote for an extra point on the snow beard! NICE work.
Nice frosty face Damon!

Morning after report: calves! Yikes.
Turned today's long intervals into a deadmill half marathon.
Got 2x1.5 @ TP for 3 points while running 13.1 miles in 1:48 for a total of 17.1 more points!

I also my go out skiiing this afternoon too.

@ Brian - you my friend are a running animal.... Despite my best efforts I don't think I can catch you... Are you in NOS or starting JOS?
Pic from yesterday's snowshoe run. (fingers crossed image embedding works)

13.1 points plus 1 for time = 14.1
