And well you should wear your medal for at least the next month, Mike! Congratulations!! And Valarie Ackley....CONGRATULATIONS Too! A long day at 16 hrs and 58 minutes plus, but you did it! Way to persevere!!!!!!
I'm so impressed by all of you that started Lake Tahoe! That's a huge accomplishment in and of itself! I'm not sure you should EVER take that medal off!
Huge kudos to everyone who toed the line yesterday- whether you finished or not! I seriously would have pulled the sheets over my head and cried myself back to sleep. We all knew the course and altitude would be a factor in this race, but wow- just never really considered the weather could be that crazy. Those of you walking around with finishers medals today deserve to wear them for as long as you want!
Al- I'll be looking forward to hearing more about your race. You may have DNFed- but I know you'll put a lot of thought into what happened and we'll all learn a lot from your experience.
x 3 what Nemo said! I've done multiple century rides up there supporting TNT over the years. Pulling several riders around the lake in good weather at that altitude can be a chore! Everyone was soooo worried about the course....I forgot that they can have snow up there even in June. Humbly bow down to all that toed the line yesterday! EN Rocks!
The EN system works, race report will follow but here are some fast facts for my performance Swim place overall: 1797 Bike place overall: 1394 Run place overall: 855
Execution (although slow in my case) was super critical for this race! Patience and discipline kept me from blowing up and I am so happy I was able to finish, and pass so many other competitors.
Swim 1:37:31 T1 14:40 (ugh!) Bike 7:54:30 (double ugh!) T2 2:27 Run 4:21:14 Total time 14:10:22
No ugh there - you came out of 50-something degree water going in to 28 degree air — a 14:40 T1 is fine to completely dry yourself and change clothing to get ready for a 112 mile bike ride in that weather.
Congrats to you and all the EN peeps that toed-the-line at this event.
SALUTE! I need to join this chorus and say hats off to all who toed the line whether you finished or not. It looked hard and sounded hard before the race ever began and now we all know just how hard it was. Congrats to all of you who finished, and if you didn't, I offer my total respect.
No Ughs for anything Mike! Everyone I've talked to had about an hour longer bike split than anticipated. Your execution was awesome! What a great run you had:-) As for T1, I am surprised you got out of there that fast!! Congratulations for a great race!
3x on what Paul H said. SALUTE! SALUTE!! SALUTE!!! Anyone who participated in that race, regardless of the result, has my sincere respect. I can tell you that IMLT will not be on my list of races for the future. Call me a whimp.
It was great seeing the EN jersey's on the course. I hope everyone finished happy and healthy... I know you weren't warm!
It was tough - I had tire issues, T1 issues, the course was tough (can't tell you how happy I was to summit Brockway for the last time)... but hey - this is Ironman, not golf!
I dont even know what to say... I simply cant comprehend the air temp swings from 29 at the swim to low 60's late afternoon only to plummet back the the low 40's after sunset! With water temps around 60?? Insane....
Thanks for all of the team support. I had a crazy day. Started out swimming across the course ending up across the incoming buoys, then men's t1 changing tent was insane. Never been to a concentration camp but I think that best describes that total debacle! Lost my entire tool, bike bag, 10 miles in and was praying all day for no flats. Dropped my chain going up brockaway and somehow it ended up behind the chain catcher. Got off the bike with stomach issues and thought my day was over. Ran/jogged most of the run, and realized at about mile 16 if I wanted to finish I would be running the last 8 miles! Epic day indeed!
