  • @Eliz you fast!!!!! Good job.
  • @Robin I think it was decided  it is yards or meters based on  the pool you swim at.
  • Today was the TT day, results: my time was 21:19 for 1,000 meters, or 2:07/100m. I love to swim, just don't like the chlorine, not sure what it does to my body.

So  I am still as slow as last year, and had not been in the pool since August 25, 2013, did a 200m warm-up and went after it. Got some work to do. The OS fitness has really helped, I was not out of breath, but had fatigue in my arms and shoulders. PnR are having me start a 2 week swim camp on 2/3/2014. Just not sure what the extra work will mean in overall savings, maybe a minute or two on a half, but at least my arms and shoulders will get stronger.

  • Question: is the idea of this challenge to see how much faster we can get in the two weeks of the challenge? Or to just set the baseline for the rest of the season?(my understanding is the latter)

  • @N

I am looking at it as a fun way to create a benchmark for the takeoff numbers I will use for my workouts the next few weeks. Hit the swim pretty hard for those two weeks and see if I have any improvement by 1.31 , To me its a fun way to do it alone yet be with all you guys.

  • X2 what Ray said its a FUN way to hold yourself accountable.... By putting it out there you know your gonna give that TT all you got! Everybody is watching!
  • @Ray and Tim, thanks, that sounds like fun, we shall see if I can improve in such a short time.image
  • @Niels where are you in Bloomingdale. I am chi born and raised but herein ATL now. I still have a home in Palos Heights which is like Indiana to you!

  • Well I have to admit I have been at this swimming thing a little early 14 days.No real structure to the time in the pool just 2/wkly swims x 1 hr. So back in the pool today to see if there was an improvement over that 1000 TT 2 wks ago. In all a 1:40 improvement.

    1) 1000M/22:50 = 2:17/100M

    2) 1000M/21:10 = 2:10/100M

Unscientific in all just get in the pool is my "take away"

@Niels, my thought process is it's just a rudimentary start point to pool time.
  • @Ray
I live right off Schick road, been here a while, work in the loop, definitely not very close to Palos Heights;-)
  • Did my 1000 yd TT on Friday --- Have been in the pool 2 times in Nov and Dec. Swam a 16:01 down from last seasons 14:55. Feeling pretty good about only dropping a minute on no training. Ready to get to work in a few weeks!
  • OK, my son has decided to go to an all-night Boy Scout broom ball dealio on Friday night and I guess I am chaperoning.  That means no swim meet in San Francisco on Saturday morning for my 1k TT.

    So . . . .

I will be doing mine tomorrow morning with Tom Glynn.  We are both going to guess our finish time and the one who is the closest wins and the loser has to buy beers.  I am officially going to estimate a 16:25 finish time.  Will post final time tomorrow.

  • Johnny I like this bet ! Beer me ! How could we intergrate this. Hmm bitcoin could be useful here !
  • OK, 2,700 yesterday with Masters Swim Team and then 1,700 this morning BEFORE 1k TT.  I LOVE to swim.

Here was the workout I followed with Tom Glynn:

    Then the TT:

Swam a bit faster than I anticipated but was dying at the end.  Middle 20 lengths I was holding a nice, consistent pace.  Only issue was at about length 28 my nose clip started to fall off.  Had to stop for 3 or 4 seconds or so to pu back on.

    So Stark is DUN!!

    Next goal:  BEAT CRONK!

  • Next goal: BEAT CRONK!

    Game on!

We gonna have some smack talk in the IMTX forum I see!

Nah, just having some fun.  You appear to be able to dish it out AND take it!

  • This has been a great experiment! Swam Tuesday and did 17:50/1000m for a 1:47/100m with no warm-up and no swimming since October. Today, I jumped in after work and again with no warm-up swam 17:22/1000m for a 1:44/100m. Dropped 3" just like that! My race season goal time is 1:40/100m so no swimming really has not made a huge difference this OS!
  • Weekly 1000 TT done able to bring my avg 100 metres to a paltry 1:57/100 m so my 1000 m was a stunning(for me) 19:34 today.Three 's for me today !Slow but sure improvements are being met ! Not in the Starky Cronk nation but I will live with this.

  • OK, not pretty and I guess I should have remembered to hit the lap button to separate my warm up from my 1k time but I was busy remembering how to swim.

I have an overall time for my 1kTT and my warmup.  After having not been in the pool for 2 months, I guess this isn't the worst thing that could happen.  1400yds at 29:23 - Overall avg was 2:05/100yd

The silver lining....I can only get faster!

  • Downward sprial continues! Third time in pool in last 7 days and my times per 100m have started at 1:47/100m last Tuesday, then 1:44 on Friday, and now 1:41 today. Just get in pool and swim 1000m with no warm-up. Goal time during the race year is 1:40! Guess all the OS cardio has certainly "crossed over". Wonder what will happen if I start swimming 3 times a week? The ROI on the effort to get that last second will probably takes weeks!

This has been fun! Thanks for doing this Brenda!

Time trial completed in an outdoor pool during a Polar Vortex. Not complaining in Houston where the wind chill was only mid-20's! The water was 82 degrees and I could feel the cold air entering my lungs as I started to suck air early... first 200y in 3:03. The "pain was brought" as I struggled home in 16:10.32 for a 100y pace of 1:37.2. My goal is to swim a 22:00 1500m with a wetsuit, so I've got some work to do.

    Ka-Frigging-Boom.  Good work!

  • Spontaneous 1K TT conducted today. Swam pretty steady, and fairly easy for time of 16:35 - 1:39/100yd. Been swimming in the OS under operation "Tugboat modification". So far so good.

Tug boat now a cigar speed boat.  Nice work!

  • Just did the 1000yd time trial in 18:44! I am pretty excited about that, my previous PR was 19:39.
  • I almost missed it!  I kept putting it off thinking I had so much time!  Anyhow, I forgot my towel and had to dry off with those cheap brown paper towels.  Not recommended.

  • One day late but I am putting it out there. In the pool today and put out a 19:10 1 km TT. Was alot of fun and got me invigourated to carry on. Still the water turtle but I have busted off my water wings !

  • Did my second swim test 1000y @19:13. My 1/15 test was 20:50 and I didn't swim between them, just executed this test better.
  • just made it on the last day of the challenge with my first swim since Oct '13 earlier today. surprised myself with a 17:38 for 1,000 yds. apparently, this is only ~40" off my all time best 1k TT -- we'll see if 2 weeks of swim camp can get me back there
