Only down 1/2 #, but better than up since I drank four nights straight-I did feel I did well with the eating part though.
Today I start my HIM training, picked up my bike from the bike shop yesterday and I'm nervous and excited at the same time. It will be my first HIM, so if I can be a few pounds lighter by race day that will be a boost to my moral also. No more celebrations/family reunions in the near future, so I'll keep the alcohol down to a minimum
Posted By Thomas Jones on 17 Mar 2014 11:29 AM Down 8 pounds - 2 more to go to reach my goal for the challenge. I remixed a favorite protein shake of mine this weekend:
Almond Joy Protein Shake 1/4 cup coconut milk 2 TBS almonds 1 TBS chia seeds 1 scoop Robb Roy Egg White Protein 1 TBS Hershey's Cocoa 1/4 TSP stevia
Ice and water to desired texture - Enjoy!
Oops - I forgot to add the 1/4 CUP of shredded coconut - gotta have that!
Ate and drank too much early part of last week. Really had to kick it in gear to just stay flat to last week's weight. Luckily had a lot of biking on the training plan over the weekend so that helped .
@Carla good luck on your first HIM! The EN bike training (especially) will get ya there in good form....and best of all the swim is nearly the same as Oly. Ya reminded me about cutting the booze. .. (generally good idea)....remember to use a 90/90 rule with booze and chocolate etc....it's not so much that you must swear these things off..but that you are 90% good with a "clean diet"90% of the time. For example...for me no midweek beer...but no guilt that I had a tasting wheel of craft brew with dinner out last night. Or...I like a small piece of 85+ dark chocolate just before bed (scant kcal but is just enough to satisfy) I get my other chocolate in protein shakes and in "good treats" such as chocolate pudding made with pudding mix and choc . protein powder (can't tell) great post WKO treat BTW ...can be made with sugar free for anytime snacking. ....point is don't deprive..adjust. having a planned "OK for wine day" or whatever makes getting through the week a bit easier and makes being super stick seem justified and worth it. (And it won't wreck your diet)
Here is the link for a collection of Vegan/ Vegetarian Recipes that I have used. Healthy and tasty too. I like the raw taco recipe that is wrapped in romaine lettuce "tortillas" sounds kind of weird but tastes great.
@Brenda that smoothie sounds good...nice hiding the kale I definitely need to get more greens. Green powder mixes all taste like wheat grass n barn clippings. ...but trying to mix those in with compatible fruit/drinks. I'd be cautious of the suggar load unless drank right after WKO.....w/o adding some protein. Isopure or Nectar fruit flavored powder seems to work well when added w/o making things heavy like regular protein powders will. I'll have to try a version of yours !
Never thought of protein in chocolate pudding! Great idea. So...stuck in airport all day delayed by DC weather. Will weigh tomorrow AM. I dont know about you all, but I dont poop well when I travel. So if I havent lost, Im totally blaming that!
Down 0.3 lbs, only 2 wko's this week (one with tunes and tears on the bike). Started a new job wearing lead gear due to the XRAY exposures in the cath lab. Lost one of my Marine nephews this last week. He survived Afghanistan and being blown up in 2 different Humvees with injuries, but died during a freak accident at home.
Starting over, ran a slow 5K today for the first time since last May due to injuries and then hopped on the bike and road @Z4 and finished with a sprint at 650 watts until I couldn't do any more. Did PT with a roller, pressure ball, and then the EN core workout. When I was done I did a Lieberman (EN) Primal Scream while rocking the tunes LOUD!
I am a day late weighing in and reporting. It was not worth the wait. I ran a marathon in VA Beach and then indulged for a day. The result is I am back to my start weight, but have kept the 1/2 inch loss on my waist. I will have to be careful this week as I am recovering and will only have light workouts.
@Jay - sorry to hear about your nephew. In my few years with the team, one of the important lessons that I have learned is that real life responsibilities always come first, and the rest of this is for fun.
As for the challenge, I'm back to base weight 163.5 after a 3 lb blip last week. Waist holding at 33.5"
Just wanted to say great job everyone..I know a few of us aren't where we hoped, but life does happen. @Jay-thinking of you and your family, I know all too well.....
Got day two of training finished and plan on doing my first 5 AM bike ride as tomorrow is my long day at work and my evening is booked solid until 10 PM. Plan on being in bed in the next hour...... Carla
Yippee!!! Down a half pound despite 5 days away. Learning tricks to make my meals healthy while the family indulges....tonight I added a load of broccoli and some chicken to a bit of tortellini while the son and hubby had a pile of tortellini with garlic bread. The left over pasta made two more lunches when I added veggies and chicken. Hubby had cheesecake for dessert. I savored a bite of his and had my Italian Ice. This is hard, but doable.
reminder...dont weigh everyday... sheesh up 2 lbs sence yesterday? ..after that bike ride/brick run? ....just because I had riCe with dinner?..... sheesh Just gota "TRUST THE TAPE".....
Hey all! Continue to make my 1 lb weekly lose. I'm actually surprised because I didn't do anything except work in my garden and loaf around on Saturday. I was so tired and soar. My heart/head just wasn't in it. So I planted my spring garden instead and went for a walk with my girl. It was a really nice do nothing day.
@ Jacklyn Sounds like you did the right thin. Everyone needs to take a re-set day and just do ....well... anything but triathlon. Sometimes single folks don't have the "kids excuse"....but everyone needs a spa day or a hang out with non athlete friends and sip fruity-boozy drinks by the pool type of days ....good for the head and soul (and body) Now when there are more days like that than those spent in the pain cave.....that's another discussion!
Already at my goal weight, having a cold, being tired an not much appetite for a week seems to have helped the weight loss, not the way to attain the weight loss but oh well.
Week 3 weigh in - down 6 more pounds to 236 from 242 last week - loving my fat-adapted plan! feeling satisfied and energized for all those workouts - 16 more to go to get to my beginning of season goal!
@Tomas Great Job! It can be tough to balance enough food to suport training and not so much to keep fat /add fat. Looks like your on the right track.
@ Tom I wish I could have kept off the ~10lbs I lost when I was last sick, but alas, most came back with recovery (good thing realy)....although Ive kept about 2 pounds from return to prior weight wich is likely real -mostly fat- loss...now to keep chiping away.....
OK, the positive is I rocked my workouts last week and still feeling great. The negative-up a #1. I really just need to keep being active vs caring so much about the weight. I am down a total of 8# from my heaviest and have kept that off, but stay in a 2# range it seems like.
Start - 160.0, Current -159.0. Dropped .4 from last week! No change in waist. I weigh everyday now just to keep the brakes on. Monday is always my worst day. I hit a low of 155.8 last week and was 156.8 Sunday morning. I eat too much on Sundays.
Two pounds down this week - 153 - no change on the waist.
Saw the doctor today and I am out of commission for the next 2-3 weeks due to shoulder and Achilles injuries. I will have to be disciplined until I get the green light to work out again. I love a challenge!

@ David- No worries. Reset day was effective. I have spent plenty of time in the pain cave/road this week. I'm tired but sooo excited.

I was able to lose another 3 lbs. Been trying to eat mostly plant based all week and I think that's helping as well.
awesome job @Thomas J

Down another pound, didn't measure the waist. Adding more green/yellow/red veggies into my diet, along with less carbs (pizza/bread).
Great work, everyone!
