Coach, have you opened TOC to gen pop yet? I have a friend who is interested and was wondering if I could send them the deposit link?
Yep, all flavors of registration are open, I just haven't started to actively market the camp outside of the Team. I MUCH prefer to have known quantities in the camp, a friend of yours is perfect, so please pass along the information.
I saw on the San Diego Union Tribune that the TOC will start in San Diego and move north.. I live about an hour north in the wine country of So Cal. Poor Coach Rich and the logistics? I could have Brenda my wife bring some Standup Paddleboards to Mission Bay for some cross training.
I know that most people think that means "Don't be a pussy" but I know the real meaning coming from you...
"Dude, bring Axe please!"
This man crush you have on me is out of control.
I don't know jeremy, but between this post & the the one on the feed, I am beginning to worry about Dino... At least he flies solo on the bunking situation on TOC so his roomie need not worry... just sayin..
I heard Rich was lobbying costco for industrial sized bottles of axe.
More details on the route; also news that Sir Bradley Wiggins intends to race there 2016. Left unreported is the news that Dino will introduce his new siracha flavored drink in conjunction with In-n-Out Burger at the Santa Clarita stage:
I guess I will have to be an exception to you "perfect plan" given I will fly with my bike, from Brazil, into LA and fly back, most likely out of San Francisco. Mine is a soft bike case (SCICON AeroConfort) which we can hopefuly fit in the van?
Question for ToC veterans: which is the ideal gearing for the tour??? (using the camp as my excuse to get a new road bike ... might as well make it ToC perfect!!!). Kindly advice!!! Tks

Your new bike will have 11spd. I'm running 52/36 chainrings and 28-11 cassette on my Di2 11spd. Perfect gearing for nearly everything.
Rich beat me to it ... that was exactly my suggestion. That "mid-compact" crank can also be fitted with 50/34; and you can use a tighter cassette like 11-25 for IM FL type courses, or, when you get older, you can go with 11-32 and spin up anything. So it provides a lot of versatility.
Please check your email inboxes for an email from me with travel details, your balance due, etc. The short version:

Your Travel to/from the ToC
The Tour will start in San Diego on Sunday, May 15th and finish in Sacramento and Sunday, May 22nd. Details for your travel to/from the ToC:
San Diego: please get yourself to San Diego by4pm Saturday, May 14th. I will designate our rally point/host hotel closer to the camp.
Sacramento: please plan to fly out of Sacramento no earlier than6pm, Sunday, May 22nd.
Your Bike: please ship your bike to arrive to me no later thanThursday, May 12th. I will likely have you ship your bike to my local bike shop, who will assemble your bike, store your box, and repack it for shipping at the end of tour. I will be transporting your bike from Sacramento back to Monrovia at the end of the camp and it will ship out to you early the following week.
++++++
We still have room in the camp, if you're on the fence. Please go here for complete details. Any former campers, please feel free to post your experiences here, to push people off the fence and into the camp!
I'll be out of the country April 17- May 9, so in order to get my bike there on time, I'll have to ship it April 15. Would this be OK, getting it there maybe 2-3 weeks early?
Bike shipped to Rich's house, or will you give us the bike shop address?
What's the best freight company to use, and what company will the bike shop use to ship back the bikes?
I intend to get a cardboard bike shipping box from my LBS - does this seem reasonable? I can pad the frame with pipe insulation, got a lot of it lying around. Otherwise, I'll buy a bike transportation system, which I would eventually need anyway, I guess.

Fine to ship it to my house, given how early you're shipping it. For everyone else, please standby before you start shipping bikes, I need to coordinate everything with my LBS. In the past I've shipped via FedEx as Joanne had a discount but I can't speak to FedEx vs UPS, their ground rates, etc. As I think about it, I may ship the bikes out via Wheelbuilder as they'll have excellent rates. Yes to cardboard box from LBS. Last year Team Wisconsin all had their bikes packed and shipped by their LBS. Maybe Jeremy can give you an idea on the cost of that service?
I would recommend shipbikes.com if you go that route. You basically take advantage of their account to get commercial rates on fedex. I took my bike to LBS and they packaged in a bike box for $40 round trip shipping was roughly $120 fully insured. You will have to repackage the bike when you head home but you will have all the proper materials if you unpack it carefully.
Among those announced as riding: former Tour De France winner Brad Wiggins, current World Champ Peter Sagan, the two best sprinters in the world, Mark Cavendish & Alexander Kristoff, as well as former world record holder and last years Colorado Pro Tour winner Rohan Dennis and Julian Alaphilippe, who battled Sagan in CA last year.
I've updated the 3rd or 4th post in the thread to include my plan for each stage of the camp, now that the Tour has published the routes for each day of riding. Please check it out and let me know if you have any questions.
At this time I have 3-4 spaces available in the camp. The camp includes:
All riding, lodging, support on the course, breakfasts, and 2x camp dinners.
The camp also includes VIP passes for the Individual Time Trial stage in Folsom, and the final stage in Sacramento.
All campers will receive 2 x EN cycling jerseys, a camp t-shirt, and swag from our sponsors!
For those of us meeting at your house and riding down to San Diego in the vans, I do have a question. At the end of the tour will we be driving back south to your house on Sunday or Monday?

Good question, hadn't thought of that. I think my preference would be to jam down from Sacramento to LA on Sunday when we're done in SAC.
- Nutrition: assuming we each take care of our one nutrition (electrolytes) and can carry our "own" canister in the van if needed during the ride(s)?
- Off the course dress code: assuming no team events will demand more than shorts and t-shirt therefore suitcase size can be minimized?
- Tubes & Co2: assuming we will be stopping in various bike shops along the way to replenish if necessary?
- End of tour: for those of us leaving Sacramento monday morning, are we spending saturday night in Sacramento and we just need to extend the room reservation one extra night obviously at our expense?
All of this will be in a email with coordinating instructions that I'll send out well before the camp (what to bring, pack, etc), but here is some stuff for now.
- Nutrition: assuming we each take care of our one nutrition (electrolytes) and can carry our "own" canister in the van if needed during the ride(s)? The camp will provide Gatorade Endurance and other nutrition for you. I'll publish what I'm bringing so you can plan to bring your own stuff to supplement, if you want to.
- Off the course dress code: assuming no team events will demand more than shorts and t-shirt therefore suitcase size can be minimized? Yep. The only civilian clothes you'll need will be for riding in the van, having dinner, walking around the hotel, etc. Maximize the cycling kit, minimize the civilian kit
- Tubes & Co2: assuming we will be stopping in various bike shops along the way to replenish if necessary? I will have tubes, Co2, tools, tires, etc, though you'll also bring your own. Again, more later.
- End of tour: for those of us leaving Sacramento monday morning, are we spending saturday night in Sacramento and we just need to extend the room reservation one extra night obviously at our expense? Yep, we can take care of that at the hotel in Sacramento

Based on conversations with Dino over sushi on Friday, I think this is what we'll do with the shipping the bikes, etc:
^This^ will significantly improve the camp experience on the final Saturday/Sunday, as we won't be in a mad dash to disassemble and pack bikes, etc.
Rich,
I guess I will have to be an exception to you "perfect plan" given I will fly with my bike, from Brazil, into LA and fly back, most likely out of San Francisco. Mine is a soft bike case (SCICON AeroConfort) which we can hopefuly fit in the van?
