Juan - don't assume it will be warm enough for just shorts and T shirt. I found long pants, long sleeves (even fleece), and (cycling) jacket to be very helpful. My long pants converted to shorts, and my extra warmth for the top doubled as part of my cycling gear.
Cycling along the coast (Cambria to Carmel) and in the mountains (LA, Tahoe) can be quite chilly even in May. I'm going to be prepared.
to add to this, last year the days got progressively colder as we moved south!
the last riding day was up to the baldy ski lifts and there was snow on the sides of the roads with an air temp that was probably in the hi 30s/ lo 40s...
Al's packing instructions to me were to bring everything I had!
Al quotes his dad as saying, there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!
Are the two EN bike Jerseys (included in the TOC) the new ones that we are waiting for from Trisport?
If you mean are they the same design, yes. The intent is for us to ride as a coherent team/group several times during the Tour. I'll be collecting sizes from you guys shortly.
Are you folks riding the complete Stage 3 [Thousand Oaks to Santa Barbara] route on Tuesday May 17?
The route swings by my backyard; I'm thinking of joining you from Ojai through the ascent up Gibralter Rd in Santa Barbara to the finish.
Yes, but I don't know if we'll go up Gibralter to the finish. How long is that climb? If we make it to the base in time, I'll have the vans wait at the bottom while we climb up as far as we can go before getting shut down. But I can't let the vans go in there for fear of us getting stuck up there on the road.
Gibralter is approx. 8-9 mile acsent averaging 8% incline. It's the epic part of stage 3. Great ocean views; folks should attempt to climb up as far as possible.

Ok, thanks. Then I'll probably use the vans to start riding farther into the course, buying us time to do the climb. Thanks!
Oh, I camped in Santa Paula over Valentine's Day weekend. Took the moto up 33 a bit the first day then rode into Ojai for coffee the second day.

SoCal folks have the opportunity to ride the entire 105 miles of this Stage in an official "L'Etape de Tour": Fans have the opportunity to ride this course at the sixth annual L'Etape California on April 24, three weeks before the race. Once again, Amgen Tour of California Ambassador Jens Voigt will lead the ride along with new ambassador and four-time National Champion Freddie Rodriguez. Registration is open now at amgentourofcalifornia.com/letapecalifornia-register.
Day 1 - Fresh off the boat, 5.5 mile climb of 1900 feet, along with hours and hours in the San Diego back county.
Day 2 - Get tortured by Rich in his back yard: 75 more mile through the Angeles Crest and Big Tujunga Canyon. 4 summits/8500'
Day 3 - Get a break? Skip the first 50 miles (all the downhill and flats), ride 50 miles rolling, then 7 mi up 3000', 7.5% avg grade
Day 4 - It's 100 miles from Cambria to Carmel. That cuts off the first 20 and the last 16 miles of the race route. Oh, and its all into the wind
Day 5 - Skip the first 30 mi/flat section, False flat for 55 miles, up 7500', then roll along thru the pines for 30 mi @ 7100-8500'
Day 6 - A rest! Roll a few miles, then watch the TT
Day 7 - Just the loop from Occidental is 72 miles/8000'. But the wind is at our backs the 2nd half!
Day 8 - I suspect we'll be wet-noodle-legged, sleeping in and watching the finish from the VIP tent.
Anybody wanna guess our total mileage, and elevation gain? I'm scared to add it up at this point.
Thanks for this! I'll print it out and we'll just do ^that^
The ride up the coast will be interesting. In the past we've always done it when the race wasn't on the course, so we could chill and take our time. It will be different to have the race chasing us as we ride north. And cuz it's north, it's all uphill, cuz you're going up the map. That's just science.
@ Rich --- any chance you can post the info on Stage 3 (Day 3), such as starting location of ride and time wheels will begin rolling? I'd like to hook up somewhere in that 50 miles of rolling section before the big ascent at the end of the stage.

Dave, I just don't know that right now. Best to call or text me Monday evening when I have that sorted out. 626-203-3278
Well...ToC isn't making it super easy on us this year, as it looks like they haven't made (or I can't find) the cue sheets for each stage. Very handy to have, as they give us the turn by turn directions and the times that the peleton is expected to be at each turn based on their average speed.
If anyone has fired up the app, can you tell me if this feature is on there?
Rich ... In my spare time (retired, got a lot of it) I made some ride with gps maps stages 1-5. It has turn by turn directions. Some of the days like 1&5 I left out the early or late miles. I started the on the Santa Rosa stage, but got confused 2/3 rds in.

Rob, you got the email I sent the other day, correct, with what I recommend you bring?
If you want advice on high end kit, Dino is the guy. My base layers are old running shirts and I toss on budget glove liners over my cycling gloves.
No, but I plan to manage / choose the start of the ride so that we can climb Gibraltar before the pro's get there and maybe see them pass by.
Rapha.... Always for warm days. The wicking mesh is superior. Craft wins win the temps fall below 65 degrees....
Let's see:

# Jealous. Planning to go next year. Looks epic!

PSA: If you haven;t already got it, download the "Amgen Tour of California Tour Tracker" app to your phone or tablet.
If anyone has fired up the app, can you tell me if this feature is on there?
Ok, thanks. I'll keep checking the website to see if they publish these. They've never not had these...ever.
