Hey folks. Bill McKinney here. I'm pretty much with JStark:
    - long time ENer...missed the very first OS in 2007, but I've done the rest
    - haven't done an IM since IMLP 2011...didn't do any tri's last year
    - my near term A race is the American Birkebeiner Nordic ski race in February...it's a 51K race with 8K of my closest friends. For those of you from warmer climes, Nordic is the skiing where you ski UP the hill and down the hill...none of those silly lifts. Also known as cross country. I'll be doing back to back 42K races over Super Bowl weekend too
    - I'm usually a JanOS guy, but my fitness is a little behind plan, so jumping into November this year.

Looking forward to getting things going with all of you. Thinking maybe Stark and I need a side bet on weight loss...I'd love to race the Birkie at 160, but that would be a loss of ~20 lbs in 20 weeks. What say you John?

Bill, let's do it! iIneed to lose 30 in 16 weeks. PM me and we can get things going. Maybe get a few others onboard and call ourselves the Island of Misfit Triathletes. image
  • Hey folks,

This is my 3rd NOS. This past season was a mixture of good and not so good. I hit my highest FTP right before dropping into the HIM training plan and then got a new job which limited the amount of training I could have done otherwise. I did Victoria 70.3 and Challenge Penticton and had a PB in the swim and the run at Penticton but the bike went south with a flat and mechanical issues. But the run, it was a IM run PB by 13 minutes so I'll take that and, ahem, run with it.

I age up to the 60-64 age group next year and Coach P thinks that have a shot at a Kona spot, so I'm upping my game and going for it. That means starting with the NOS! I'm going for consistency and making sure I get enough recovery to absorb the work. As I get older I have to watch that closer because I can work myself into a hole much quicker now. My races next year so far are IM Coeur D'Alene 70.3 and IM Coeur D'Alene.

BTW, if any of you are worried about not swimming in the OS, I didn't swim any during the OS last year and I still did a PB on the swim at Penticton. I did do the core workouts throughout the OS and that included using stretch cords.

I'm looking forward to training with you all and getting stronger.

  • Hi All, This is my second year with EN but my first participation the OS. Did 2 HIMs in 2015 and planning to do 70.3 Florida in April 2016 and a late season IM (My first IM and probably Florida). Goals for outseason: Run much faster... body composition (need to drop 10-15 lbs)...

I have a crazy travel schedule and will be traveling at least for weeks 4 and 5 of the OS. I'm secretly hoping to get some FTP gains in this 14 weeks but will be working for some of it on hotel gym exercise bikes which will add to the challenge.

Looking forward to training with you all.
  • I will start this OS on 2 Nov, so I guess I'll be a week behind! I like Ed's format, so here is my info:

    1. 55 yrs old. I live in San Antonio, TX.
    2. I am a civil engineer working for the Army as a Federal employee after retiring from active duty with the Army Corps of Engineers with 27yrs
    3. I have been with EN since 2010 and this will be my 6th OS
    4. Been at this a long time. I just went over 100 triathlons a couple of years ago and did the ITU World Sprint Championships last year to cap my plan to get my speed back. Now, I am getting back to longer distance this year .
    5. Next big race - working on a plan. Will do the AG National for Olympic Distance. No IM next year, or for several years to build up the SAUs and bank account. Possibly HIM nearby.
    6. Goals for the OS - a. work on run. b. Get bike power back up to 2014 OS numbers (3.8w/kg) c. contribute in this forum!
    7. Can't wait to hit the pain cave with you all
  • Hey, everyone!  Mark Cardinale, here from Parker, CO!  This will be my 4th OS with EN.  I'm a little nervous starting this OS because i'm starting with my highest FTP.  In the past i've always started the OS 20 or so watts under my high from my previous race season.  This year after my last race i have been in a modified version of the OS since August and pushed my FTP up another 2 watts.  So from week one the prescription is for PAIN!!!

For 2016 i have IM Texas and IM Boulder on the calendar.  I will most likely drop in a 70.3 or two as well.  I'm looking forward to the increased focus on run durability during this OS and i am also one of those people who continues to swim throughout the winter.  Swimming is my limiter and i need as much time in the water as possible.  Other than that i'm looking forward to sharing the ride with everyone.  The OS reminds me of going away to college in that the relationships you form during the OS follow you into your race season and beyond.  For the new folks i really suggest getting on the EN Strava group.  There is LOTS of additional mojo to be had in Strava in addition to the weekly bike and run threads.

    Let's do this!!!!!

  • Hello all ! Francis Picard from Montreal, Canada (yeah a French Canadian !), this is my first year in the team but had used the plans last year. I did my first IM this year and really enjoyed 140.6 more than the 70.3. Did my last outside ride this afternoon but was too cold.. so starting to train inside this week.

For 2016 so far I have 70.3 MT, IMMT and didnt decided yet between IMAZ or IMFL.

As Mark said, come join us in the EN strava Group, always fun to read the comments from all the team members!

    Enjoy the winter !
  • Hi Everyone.

    Robin from Indianapolis
    5th OS
2015 was a bit of an off year for me, kept up with about 75% of the training but very little racing, I am closing out the year at Austin 70.3 then starting the NOS

Looking to push hard on the bike ( push FTP > 300W) and get my HM in the 1:25 range.

I'm in the EN Strava Group so look for me in there as well.

Right now looking to focus on 70.3 racing and do Boulder and Steelhead over the summer.
  • Greetings NOS Team! This is Todd Bray from Lexington, KY.

This will be my second OS with EN and I'm looking forward to further increasing my fitness with the group/plan.

I did the advanced plan last Fall but will be completing the intermediate plan this season as I intend to swim as well. Mentally, I need to stay connected to swimming as I see it as my weakest link.

This being said, my intent is two pool sessions, mostly focusing on technique rather than endurance/distance and one Vasa Ergometer session each week.

I'm currently coming off a solid running block of 6 days per week for the past 6 weeks. Prior to that I completed the Get Faster Plan after Muncie 70.3. Running has been my nemesis in my 70.3 racing and I therefore felt the need to complete this running block. I started at about 20+ miles per week and just ended at 45 with no injuries/pain (feeling VERY good about this).

I'm uncertain of my race plan for 2016 at this point but will complete at least two Olympics and one 70.3. I'm a single Dad and small business owner so scheduling races is difficult this far in advance. I'm also one of those people who simply likes the agony of training hard. I actually enjoy training much more than racing.

Current stats are: Weight: 145, FTP: 240 VDOT: 44.4. BMI: 20.8

NOS Goals: Weight: Maintain, FTP: 248 VDOT: 48 BMI: Maintain

2016 (and beyond) Goal: Sub 5-hour 70.3. (Best effort =5:14 [awful run]).

Also, I'm turning 49 in a few weeks and would like to take advantage of being the "youngster" in a few local events. I finished second twice within the past 12 months in two local Olympics. Looking for one step up on the podium!

Lastly, I'm on the Strava group as well and can't tell you enough how motivating it's been. KMF Man, Cardinale and a few others will keep you motivated and inspired. Positive comments and KUDOS go a LONG way....trust me!

I hope everyone has a GREAT NOS and let's work hard!

  • Happy OS kickoff day ya’ll!

I’m in and looking forward to refocus efforts on FTP growth as I have been focusing on run durability.   My schedule won’t quite line up but with the proper November OS but good ‘nuff too spread the MOJO.   #letsdothis

Thank you to our volunteer leaders - serious mojo from these fine ladies!

    Cheers!

  • Hello Everyone!  This is Brian Hagan from Brighton Michigan.

I am 44 years old (age up in January!) and this will be my fourth season of triathlon.  I have done 6 sprints, 2 olympic, 4 half distance and 2 full distance (2014 IM Mont-Tremblant and 2015 IM Muskoka). My "A" #1 race for 2016 is IM Texas in May.   I will probably do a local half in June and another full in August, but I will decide that later.

I am new to EN and will start the NOS one week later than most, because Coach Rich has me in week 4 of the 4 week Run Durability schedule.  I just did my testing prior to that, so I am hoping I can jump right in next week!

My current stats are: Weight 168; FTP 255 (I think my Quarq is a little generous), VDot 45

NOS Goals: Weight 15?, FTP higher, I don't know what VDot really means, but I'd like to do a sub 21 minute 5K.  My test time was actually a PR of 21:49.

2016 Goal for IM Texas - Feel like I'm racing after mile 20 of the marathon.  I don't want  to put a goal time to it.  I am just going to follow the EN plan and see where it takes me.

I am on Strava.  I love looking at the maps of everybody's runs, rides and open water swims!

I look forward to virtually training along side everyone!  Have a great season!

    Brian

  • I'm back after a couple of years "layoff". It wasn't really a layoff, it was just a year and a half of unfocused half-a$$ed training. I'm excited to get back into things. The sad part is I tested this morning and it equaled a 201 ftp, down from 255 last year. I really don't want to know how bad my running is now. I ran a 20:38 5k in 2013 (6:37s). I bet I can't break 8:00/mile right now. Oh well, I've got to start somewhere.
  • Good evening Nov OS folks....

This is Pete Beauregard from Sudbury, MA.  I am 40 years old and this will be my 3rd OS with the team.  I was focused on IM races for the past 2 years, and this year my focus has turned to HIM.  My goals for this OS is to concentrate on Body Comp, Consistency across the board, and building up my running durability.

    OK....off to bike test!

  • Hey Everyone,
So finally after nearly 2 years of a break from structured triathlon training -- in that time moved from nyc to sfo, changed jobs, had kids. I am back. Or at least back for OS.

    - Atif Malik
    - Oakland, CA (work in San Francisco)
    - Computer Engineer
    - Married with 2 kids (2years, and 3months)
    - After 2 years of no real structured training coming back to tri training to build up for 2016
Next Race: 2016 vineman (depending on registration)

    Goals for OS:
    - Get back some Run fitness. Run consistently throughout OS
    - Body Comp. Need to lose 10lbs
    - Bike durability. Having some odd knee issues on the bike over long distances. Need to figure that out.
  • Introduction: This is my second OS. Enjoyed the structured OS last season. It set me up well for the two HIM that I did in 2015. I found that the consistency of the workouts (seven days a week) and the cumulative build in fitness was key to my PR in Redman in September. This OS my goals are: (1) get a power meter and learn the power lingo to improve my bike fitness; and (2) slight gains in the run. At Redman, I finally re-discovered my run in a HIM, and it made a world of difference. Here's to Team EN Mojo for the OS!
  • This is my 3rd OS and excited for another off season!  My goals are to get faster on the bike and hopefully set myself up for a sub 5 hour HIM in 2016.

BTW- Unless I missed it, does anyone know if there will be another 2016 OS plan to choose or is everyone supposed to use the OS/Run Durability plan?

    Thanks!

  • Matt, I think the 2016 OS/Run durability plan is it this year. You could use last year's plan I suppose.
  • Thanks Mark!  I should have read the outseason master page before i asked.  image  its all spelled out in there.

  • Hi everyone. This is Larry and I am going to be doing the NOS again this year. Although I am starting a week behind everyone due to some logistical matters so I can be inspired by the rest of you as I follow your work and progress. I believe this is my fifth OS. I made great strides in body comp the past 18 months and actually found a decent amount of time to train the past year - given I have a hectic job, an hour commute and 3 kids under 7 I gave myself a pat on the back for that! I am hoping to build upon last year's results and get fast / strong this NOS. I have not yet decided if I am actually going to do any races this upcoming year (due to family commitments) or just have fun. Enjoy the OS everyone!
  •

    Hi Folks,

Joining the NovOS after learning lessons and remembering old one in IMMD. though i'll be breaking it up in December when traveling around Germany. Plan on registering for IM Raleigh and already in IMMD for 2016. May try for one more Im if body and funds allow. Maybe IMFL since we will be in Fort Myers Beach January thru March at least before returning to the Outer Banks of NC.

My goals are to get serious with strength training and improve my run (I'm a swimmer). I also need to improve my use of EN online resources. A lot I think but I do have time right now. Plan to stay in touch to be pushed and to push. TKS.

  • Hi folks. This is my first season with EN and my first OS. I'm 37 years old and live in New Orleans. I've been doing short course triathlons for 4 years and am planning to move up to HIM next year. I've always struggled to maintain my fitness between seasons and am really excited to have a good plan to follow this year. I'm easing into the plan over the first couple of weeks as I recover from a rain shortened olympic tri last Sunday (became 800m swim and 10K run), nursing a hamstring strain, and making some bike upgrades (power meter, compact crank set, and shorter cranks).

My main goal for the OS is to lay a great foundation for my first HIM in April (70.3 NOLA). Specifically, I'd like to drop a few lbs (currently 198, hoping for 190), learn how to train with power, and improve my run speed.
  • Hello I'm Anthony.  I'm a reforming fat dude.  The reformation has been delayed the past two seasons with new additions to the family, injury that required surgery and pneumonia (wow was that ever worse than expected; lost 6 weeks and motivation).  With all of that behind me, I am ready to complete my reformation in 2016 and then finally conquer the full distance in 2017.  (I've finished two halves, but I was slow due to lots of extra weight; lost weight = free speed it's true).

Last years OS was a disaster thanks to not fully recovered knee.  This year everything is in great shape and ready to go.  I am 20 lbs lighter right now that I was at this time last year which will help too.  I'd still like to start the actual racing season at a weight I haven't seen since high since boot camp in the Navy if possible (and I think it is).

I'm starting today.  I will be filling out the run tracker too.  My best season ever in triathlon is the one where I had the most run consistency.

  • Hi Everyone! I'm back in the saddle and looking forward to regaining fitness and racing again. I took a couple of (forced) years off due to a crash at IM Lake Tahoe in 2013; broken collar bone, then surgical intervention in March of 2014. Then back on the mountain bike I went down and had to get some stitches. Then, a new grandbaby (good stuff). Trying to get serious again and decide if I wanted to race again in 2015..started swimming, then got bit by a dog (no swimming for a bit). So I took care of my grand daughter for 2 months. I did hop into a sprint tri in Idaho Falls, Idaho in August which got my tri juices flowing again.

I'm signed up for Boulder 70.3 and IMMT in August. In between a trip to Italy to do the Gran Fondo Dolomite (if we get in) to help a friend celebrate a milestone birthday!

My goals are to stay upright and have a great time, while staying healthy and injury free! EXCITED TO BE BACK!!
  • Hi, Can I report in late? I am starting a week behind, just got my tests results posted in the spreadsheet. 42 years old and live close to New Orleans (that's at least 3 of us here). Did IM Chatt with Brandon who posted earlier in this thread then took a few weeks off and had a family vacation. Looking forward to getting this training train going again and hopefully training in some cooler weather.

Good luck to all, this should be fun.
  • I created a Spotify Playlist for my pain cave sessions that I'd like to share. https://open.spotify.com/user/slj6/playlist/4zpnE5Xze5zljgMLRLqlMr
  • I know we are only 2 weeks into the Out Season, but I'm pretty stoked with how things are going so far! 6 weeks of bike focus and 6 weeks of run focus before starting the Out season have helped tremendously! I hope everyone else is having some great results as well. Yes it's early but I'm looking forward to race season!
  • Hello everyone. I'm late to the party because of just completing the NYC marathon. Coach Rich just updated my TSR and put me in the OS starting this next week.

    Tom Box
    Salem, Oregon
    57
    2nd OS
Next "A" race is Texas in May which will be numero 12 for me.
Pain cave is all set and ready to go!
  • Hi! Im a couple of weeks late to the Forum. I just joined EN this week. I will be doing my bike test tomorrow and run test Saturday. I'm Super excited about the OS! I hope to see gains in my run next season. Im doing Florida 70.3 and Ive also put my name in the lottery for Escape from Alcatraz (a bucket list item) I just did my 1st Ironman. IM Chattanooga. Loved every minute of it!!

  • Carol Ann, welcome to EN and the NOS.
  • Welcome Carol Ann! Good luck with your tests. See you in the weekly threads.
  • Hello Team!,

My name is TJ. This is my first time using Endurance Nation and I am very excited to be a part of the team.  I just started with EN this week so I am currently beginning the OS Run Durability Beginner Program.  I just moved from NYC and am currently living in Saratoga Springs, NY (just south of Lake Placid). My goal for next year is IMLP. I will probably do a smaller more "low key" half prior to the race but nothing is in stone just yet. I have biked all my life but am just beginning to get into swimming and running. Excited to be here, share information, and possibly see you guys at the race!

     Cheers

    TJ
