  • @Aimee- doesn't hurt that long. Hurt more not to be able to run for 2 weeks

Ok folks... taking stock this week on supplies etc for IM coming up. Still not 100% on what run shorts and considering a possible wetsuit purchase. THoughts? Suggestions? So far invested in recovery tights (since 2Xu ones suck), new elbow pads for bars, and Infinit. Have shoes, socks, tri singlet & shorts (although M we may need to stock up on the Sugoi tri shorty.. Team Estrogen is out of 4" and swimoutlet wants wayyyy too much for them- love those shorts)

Anyone else think of anything we need to be taking stock of this week?

Stayed up wayyyy too late trying to get caught up on work and slept right through swim alarm this am. No clue when I'll get that in.. maybe recovery swim on Sun. Just starts your whole day off when that stuff happens! Seems every time I've switched the Mon swim over, it gets kibashed on Wed. Maybe it's a sign.... our local Y pool will be closed next 2 weeks as will my backup pool (conspiracy theory going on....) so need to put my head to a plan for swimming next 2 wks. Yikes--- more to think about.. brain may go on overload!

  • Kris- If you have a PT, Batteries for the hub. That's on my list :-)

Kitboo- a boob job would be JOE's 45th b-day present, not mine! I'm fine with my itty bitty titty's. If I go down the plastic surgery route, it will be lipo to get all this cottage cheese sucked out of my ass!
  • Okay, I'm just popping in to say that the boob talk is KILLING ME today! Hahahahahahaha!
  • Hi Girls, just checking in , I have been reading away and super jealous that having gone to Rally and doing the course with you I would give anything to stand at mile 18 and cheer you on. I see all your hard work outs and LOVE the Mile 18 music, I am going to try to find the songs on Itunes and make a CD for myself to use for training.

Been training hard (I also got my first Power Meter...it is awesome) because I added Taiwain 70.3 (first one they have had), it is end of October and IM sanctioned with qualifer spots. They are only accepting 800 and nearly full but HOW MANY Califonia women in 55-59 age group could there be? Since no last year results to look at have no idea....Anyway it should be interesting getting FOOD. Doing a Century with my daughter (you never hear about her) we are planning a big weddding for her in April, so busy year.

On a very very sad note, you know of my son (the one who did Kona with me), he and his wife have been working on gettng pregnant for a long time and she was (7 weeks) and lost the baby this week, we are all devastated. Life throws some big punches once in a while.

On a happy note, things are good here, keep working hard and I can't wait to track ALL OF YOU in wow just a few weeks, +image))

PS I tried to ad my new race LOGO, like the one you girls have for Cowgirls and downloaded the logo to a word document, but for the life of me, even following "pimp your signature" coudn't do it, any easy way to explain that one?? Tried to upload it here but it says "file type not allowed"

  • @Linda - been thinking about you since the Rally, glad to hear your training is going well and I share your pain with the miscarriage. That is so difficult, not much more to say. Things happen for a reason.

The boob talk is fantastic. I think most of us endurance gals enjoy smallish chests (IM training plus nursing 3 babies will deplete everything), thankfully my SO is a hamstring man, or at least he's smart enough to say that . Each time I was breastfeeding a baby I thought, oh it'd be so nice to have these all the time and would tell myself that I'm one good bonus away from buying me a nice full A cup (can't even fill out the 'Almost A' anymore)! Keep in mind if you're serious about buying some cleavage that you are restricted from any kind of training for a pretty long period - I want to say 6 weeks or so? Two of my training partners are ob/gyn's and have shared many a detail on do's/don'ts of the procedure and that inability to train is what has always put this plan on the backburner. (that and the vanity element that I simply can't get over). Perhaps RnP should factor such 'downtime' into the "plan your season' calendar?

  • Hmmm..boob jobs, huh? Gotta say, that's not a thought that has ever crossed my mind. Actually, now that I'm in that weird peri-menopausal time, they're bigger than ever. And when you meet me, you will likely think, "really?", cuz they sure aren't big. image I don't want more. But I wouldn't mind a bit of, um, uplift. Don't want to get what my FIL used to call, "spaniel ears." LOL! After my milk came in w/ my first baby, I can remember Keith looking and asking--half terrified and half hopeful--"you think they'll stay like that?" Alas, the "Dolly Partons," as we called them, did not last. OTOH, I think a little Botox and Restalin is a very decent idea--although that $ is being eaten by Colby and BC.

@Linda--truly sorry about the loss. I had a miscarriage--a little girl at ~20 weeks--and it was truly horrible. I hope they heal, and go on to have a wonderful family.

@Heather--I put this in our WI thread too, but if you are OK with it, PM me your addy. image

  • @Linda - I'm so sorry - how sad and frustrating.  But I know a few folks who bounced right back and got pregnant again quickly and all went well.  I hope that will be the case.

@Aimee - all I can say is great minds think alike!  I got an email that my shorts are on the way... still haven't heard from team estrogen about my compression tights...

Post Timberman I'm taking my bike to get a tuneup... will talk to the LBS about my vital measurements then will get in touch with Coach R to order power (a Q/J combo with a compact crank)!  I just hope I don't drive Kitima and Nemo crazy in the process.    I won't have it for FL (per the coach there's a back order), and that's fine.  I think just finishing is enough...

Random question for the cowgirls - are you riding TTs or roadies in WI... I'm wondering about that bc of the course.  I handle a road bike better and definitely feel much more comfortable in drops for descents (especially after my crash last fall)... if I can get a new roadie in the winter/early spring, I'm thinking that will be my IMWI race bike (especially if I make sure I can put the PM on it).  Assuming I can get a second mount for the Joule... I think I read that can be done...

  • Guys- I just bought a pair of the Zoot tights (recovery ones) off Keifer (swim product company) via Ebay for $82. 2010 model.. they had active tights, some shorts and recovery socks. Thought that was a pretty good deal and it's from a reputable company.
  • @Becky- Riding TT bike at IMWI. Roadie bike is pure fun. I could put power on her, but I don't want to be in training mode every minute. My PT wheel fits the roadie if I ever really want to do it though. Believe me, after IMWI, if I ride a bike, it will be my roadie "Princess" and it will be fun.

Change the hub batteries before you ship that bike off!

Random thoughts on boob jobs. Gotta admit I was blessed in that department. With all of this training, I am down to a 35C, but I am normally a 36C. Like Nemo says, the cottage cheese on the butt could go and I'd be fine. But my former BFF had lipo in HIGH SCHOOL!!! 2 kids later, I think her parents regret that money being flushed away. So that isn't as tempting, i.e. I can ruin it with eating. I try not to think about the crow feet, et al that is setting up shop on my face. I prefer to adjust the lighting (hahahaha).

Now gray hair... it doesn't really bother me. Except that Max keeps commenting on how much there is lately. I stopped getting color once training started. Something had to give and 1.5-2 hours at the salon was easy for me to say g-bye. I start back 2 weeks after IMWI. Funny thing is that if I let my hair dry curly, you really can't see it. But blow it out straight or pull it back tight and it is obvious. My older sister was totally gray by 30. I am getting more salt every time I look. I truly do not care. But I can NOT stand the way everyone else comments on it. I always think it's rude, but family doesn't have those same boundaries.

I am trying REALLY hard to NOT buy anything else for this race. I have considered repadding the bars on the TT bike, but with arm warmers, I don't have a problem (and I am wearing them lately). Don't need short/ tops/ bras/ socks. Gotta go buy a bunch of caffeinated gels. Tried to get tubing to make a bendy straw, but couldn't find the right size. I think I will cut up a really old camelbak instead.
  • Kris, thanks for the heads-up on the Zoot products on Ebay!  I have a pair of the recovery tights that I love, love, love, especially after Mancona told me an easier way to put them on.    I just scored a pair of the active shorts from Ebay.

I'm also quite small chested, but I like it that way, and so does T.    My current favorite sports bra is a very plain one from Under Armor that I scored from the outlet store.

Becky, you are going to love power!

  • ;mIchele and everyone--re arm warmers...I was digging through tri stuff beginning to think about packing. I came across what I used to make disposable arm warmers for FL. At Walmart in PCB I bought a two-pack of Grampy navy blue dress socks--literally, the knee high ones that come in a two pack. Cut off the toe, and they fit comfortably, perfectly, and stayed put until I whipped them off and dumped them at an aid station. FWIW, they worked well.

You FL ladies--it's can be C-C-COLD there--esp in the morning. Wind can be whippin'. It was FREEZING in '06--we had to go to Wally World and buy hats and gloves for Keith and the boys. No kidding. '08 wasn't as bad, but I ended up at the Goodwill for a dispoable jacket, and you just read about the arm warmers. image

@Kristen... please do share on the tight instructions... my 2XU ones are looser than regular run tights (and they are they "correct" size according to their charts!)

Totally forgot about that idea. Thank you for the reminder. Going on the list now...

  • Can some WSM help me insert a link to my Zoot help thread? It's in the Club House forum, currently on page 3.

Essentially, you turn the tights or socks inside out, with only the foot part right side out. Insert your foot, get that situated, and then roll up the socks or tights the rest of the way. Thanks to Matt, I can now put the tights on in about 2 minutes with minimal trouble, as opposed to about 5 minutes of sweaty frustration.
  • @Linda P- couldn't get the PM to work, can I text you? My cell is 312-543-3069. "Chica presents" sounds so fun!!! Really look forward to meeting you in Madison.

  • @Michele - thanks for the tips re: power and bikes, etc.  I'll get a roadie with a crankset that will will and I'll go with the flow...if I put power on it I do if not, I just ride... I don't know what that's like anymore.

@Kristen (?) - yes please share the link to how to put tights on... I'm sure I'll need it.  I do have the compression running tights from... oh, I can't remember, they have the spider man webbing look to them... I figure it will be like that and/or like putting on a wetsuit... slow and humbling.

re: arm warmers... I was thinking of taking them with me for Timberman... but had a thought that they'd be really hard to put on in transition when I'm wet after peeling off my wetsuit... what are your thoughts.  It might be warm enough and I won't need them, but just in case...

the last few days I have been consumed with power (it's been slow at work - I just got put on a new project so that's over) - although I posted this in the joule thread.. .curious what your thoughts are on a new computer.  Mine is REALLY old (6 years) and dreadfully slow and i've been wanting to upgrade for ages, but it seems like the newer ones cause some probs with the software as do macs... your thoughts?

anyway... time to start learning about "cramming"

  • @ Becky, I rode a TT in Wisconsin 2 years ago. There were plenty of places to take advantage of being aero. I also hope to get a quarq someday soon.
@ Linda, so sorry about your loss.
@ boob talk, I actually kinda wish mine were smaller. They get in the way with all the endurance sports...especially running and because I have broad shoulders, they make my wetsuit tighter than it needs to be across the chest. While running, I have to wear a hefty sports bra with a bra top over it and I still feel like they are "one step behind" all the time. I envy those who can just slip on a bra top and be just fine for the entire race! That would make for much less laundry.
  • @Carie - thanks - I should have clarified I'd suspect i'd put clip-on aero's on my roadbike - for the benefit of aero and the help of the drops/handling...
  • Becky- there's nothing on the IMWI course that is really all that technical. Two descents that I'll get out of the aerobars for. That's it. THere's no reason not to use your TT bike at IMWI.
  • Oh, it is boobs day! Of course, isn't that what we discuss every Wednesday? =-)

Yup, Becky, rock the TT bike at Wisconsin. Do you have a copy of Training and Racing with a Powermeter yet?

Re: Arm warmers. Is navy blue the official "pro" color of arm warmers?

@Carie - I'm with you. Can I now please be an "A" cup and do less laundry? I hate that the deal-breaker piece of athletic laundry are the sports bras.

@Linda -- if you file is in word, you probably need to upload it as a different file type, like a gif or a jpeg.

Oh, Becky. I think we should start a guide to Ironman dating. Lesson#1. Never tell your non-Ironman SO how much your powermeter cost. Lesson #2. Unless otherwise specified, engagement rings in Ironman couples must be equivalent to tri bike (I'm thinking of Dash an my long course tri engagement ring.) Lesson #3: Ironman sherpa-ing requires serious training and commitment. Lesson #4:

I'm definitely getting the manic vibe. I'm starting to feel like The Joker. Today? Happy Beth. Yesterday? Bitchy Beth.

I did get to spend most of the day volunteering at a fantastic community garden. Mulching, weeding, and picking tomatoes? Seriously good for the soul. I also love that grantmaking/volunteering turned from helping a blighted neighborhood regain vitality to helping Brian, Ada, and Benjamin make their awesome, beautiful idea for what the world could and should be.

... if not, I just ride... I don't know what that's like anymore.

    It is bliss.

Don't get me wrong, I love my tri bike and power meter and joule.  But have recently rediscovered the "just ride" enjoyment that I had forgotten about. Looking forward to the next few months of just fun riding before the OS starts up again.

Wow, the sports bra discussion really has taking on a new twist!  Wondering how many lurkers are out there...  image  Hope everyone is enjoying the discussion!

  • @Beth - great idea!  the dating manual would come in super handy for me and for Dan.  Ha ha ha... that could be the sequel to the other book we're gonna write- about our IM training and racing experiences.

I found my old packing and racing lists for Eagleman, tweaked them... and am now ready to get to work to get everything together to hit the road to NH tomorrow.  I'm happy to say that I think the packing prep will be pretty smooth... although I'm not looking forward to the long drive.  I did get my compression tights yesterday so it will be super to have them for the drive home!  I checked the race info and schedule.  Race starts at 7.  There are 18 waves.  I'm in wave 18.  Ugh... My Garmin battery may not make it (transition closes at 6:45)

Just want to give another shout out to Kit and Nemo and Kate for answering all sorts of Qs re: power.  I think I know what I need now which is cool... I'm afraid to find out the final tally, but that's life... it will take me a few months to pay off (fortunately my monthly expenses have dropped a bit)... but I'm really looking forward to jumping in!

Good luck with your second RR Moo gals!  I'll touch base Monday or Tuesday!

  • Beth and Becky- you know this book already exists, right? Hysterical!

Someone remind me, is Timberman Sat or Sun? I want to follow the progress of folks up there ( and some other friends too). Will be hard to do on Saturday 'cause you'd all be DONE with your race before I even start the run for the Race Rehearsal!!!

  • Timberman is Sunday!

  • Becky  - Have fun! Good luck racing!

Nemo - That blog is hilarious.

Haven't done that in 3 years !! Cannot wait!

  • sorryhaven't been here in a couple of days.... posted in IMWI thread about ride today... so yes got kids off to school, went on a small eating binge of GF sugarry foods and then felt horrible, took a few "rest days" and then felt horrible, and had two weeks of solid, high volume tng which made me tired but I felt great!!! I am a glutton! in fact I loved the 2x days!! seeing sunrise and sunset so that I could go away and take son to school.... I hate tapering as well... just FYI, I will be weird, emotional and "feel fat".....

I don' tthink I need to buy anything, if you can believe it the shorts from IMKY 07 are still alive although faded and still my favorite so they might make an appearance yet again at IMWI. the EN stuff is working.. not the shorts, and what ARM warmers??? yuck. I will wear cut off soccer socks so I can dispose of when I warm up. hopefully that will happen, my bike is in good order but will get it checked out. personally I would hope for one hot smothering windy day so that I could do well on race course!!! ha ha... and Linda will chime in and ask for a cold, dry day!

I can't believe how this forum has a good time!!! okay so my hubby did buy me a wedding ring worth as much maybe more than my bike!! nice sponsor huh?? smile. the ring sparkles.. I would always undersell or underbuy and he overdoes it so together we make a good team! and for all the years (26) and all the miles on my bike, I am glad he bought me the best!! cuz finally me and the bike and new saddle seem to be getting along, people have told me I look aero (over from past seasons) and like today, okay so maybe not fast going up, but girls, I let go, got relaxed and whizzed down some hills today, just let it rip! and ooooh baby "Lucky" can go downhills fast!! didn't even look at speed. just relaxed. so thankful to husband for my carbon bike ... I love to ride my bike. m

  •  @Nemo - there's an OLY on Sat and the HIM is Sun.  I posted a thread and it doesn't sound like too many EN'ers will be out there, but that's okay.  I'm going with Dan and a girlfriend, Bronwen (it will be her first HIM... actually she and I signed up before I met Dan).    I'm in the last wave starting at 8:20... that will make for a long boring morning (Dan starts almost an hour ahead of me)...

I'll have to check out that book/blog... sounds like it could be entertaining.  Dan bought me trizophrenia last Nov when I went to FL to register for IMFL and I highly recommend that, it's super cute!

I've been on a crazy eating bad/non-primal foods lately... not so good... ice cream w. Hershey's syrup the last 2 nights (it's at Dan's house, I know better than to have it at mine).  he needed to pack and get stuff together and has been crazy busy and wanted an easy dinner... so we got pizza.  I can't think of the last time I had pizza... certainly before June, bc I went primal after EM... wow was it good... but I entered it into Lose It on my phone (well, the generic they had as an option)... I may never eat pizza again!    That little calorie counter is so freakin scary... but I will say that going primal has done wonders, not losing crazy amounts, but it's whittling down and I'm getting definition back - but this app really brings it all home... fruits and veggies I can eat til i want to throw up and it's like 20 calories total... 2 teaspoons of sugar in my coffee is like 40 - a few pieces of pizza is practically my day's calories total (thank goodness I work out).  Seriously, I think twice about a lot of choices I used to make without a second thought. The re-education of Becky!   Now when I indulge (I will still indulge, i.e., ice cream, wine), I really have to think about whether it's worth it.  Hmm... I never thought I'd ever get there.  Kinda cool.

Anyway, I'm packed up and as ready as I'm gonna get.  We hope to hit the road early... and, if all goes well, get there at a reasonable hour.  i hoped to swim for 30 in the morning but Dan isn't game... and suggested we could swim at the lake... we'll see if that happens... but I'm looking forward to the entire trip... I love destination races and I've heard it's beautiful up there!

Again, hope the RRs go well for the Moo Chicas!  Michele C, hope your enjoying the taper... and hope all the others are doing well!  Michele M, riding for fun sounds dreamy!!

Linda will chime in and ask for a cold, dry day!

Noooo, not a cold day! OMG, I'd freeze on the bike. I like to RUN in the cold, but Ironman hours in cold weather--nuh uh. Then again, 90 and humid if out too!

Off to do RR #2 with Leigh and Dave! So tired. Can't wait to be done.

  • Becky, my BFF from Maryland and her husband (Chuck and Michele) will be at Timberman. Michele is the one holding my hand in the EN Header pic of us coming out of the water at IMWI in 2008. If she sees you in an EN Kit I'm sure she'll say hello. Great gal, give her a good luck hug from me!

So I had planned on getting up this morning to do the Swim RR. Joe offered to go out in the ocean on the surf board so I could do it in open water. But to do it we had to be in the water at 6:15. Well the sun is just coming up, and although it's pretty, well, there's a reason fisherman fish at sunrise. It just felt too creepy and I bailed out. Hoping to do it on Sunday mid-day instead.

Good luck to everyone this weekend. Lots going on!
