I've had no problems with my Skins Tri400 Compression Tri shorts, raced in them over several distances and been as comfortable as can be expected! Don't know how big the brand is in the states, but they're pretty popular here.
Just got my DeSoto Forza shorts in L (per their sizing chart, I'm 6'1", ~200lbs and have a 34-35" waist). They're way tighter than I thought they'd be, plus I feel like they're going to fall down because the waist is lower than I'm used to. Is all of that normal?
Scott, I got the ladies Forza and had the same issues with the waist and the snugness. I was able to wear them, but the stitching on the waist (which was much lower than my waist) ripped out. Sent them back for repair/return, they chose to repair. When speaking with them about their sizes, they confirmed my measurements and said I would be a medium. I would get a large if I ever ordered another pair!! I ordered a small top and had to return it for a medium...they said they will be changing their sizing on the tops next season. I think I'll have to learn how to go on the bike and run cause getting them on & off can be exhausting!! HA!~
FWIW, I raced all summer in the Hammer Nutrition Tri shorts. LOVED them! No problem or complaints at all..just compliments, as the womens are black/hot pink with HAMMER written down both sides. The mens are all black with white stiching. Now that I am in da haus, I am going to try the team kit...
This year's Forzas are indeed tight, and I for one like that. They stay in place on my thighs just above my knees, giving good compression for running and biking. I use the bibs or the trisuit, though, so don't have to deal with the waist level issue.
did my first long ride in the desoto forzas today, 72 miles w/ 2 mile transition run, and all I have to say is...I LOVE THEM! Even though the lower cut waist takes some time to get used to, overall the tighter fit rocks. My legs feel great!
I have a half-marathon tomorrow morning, in which I'll use them again.
didn't get a PR (not the topic of this post, I know), but the shorts held up very well. My upper legs and hip flexors are not sore at all - which they have been lately on my long/longer runs. They still felt a little low cut, like they were going to fall down (in reality, they're not even close to that).
After Saturday's long bike and transition run, the only part of my leg that was anywhere near sore was the quad near the knee - which happens to be the only place where the shorts don't have tight compression. Everywhere else, great!
I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a pair, and with the EN discount making a great deal to boot. I'll probably buy a few more pairs and even some cycling bibs.
We will no longer carry/offer triathlon shorts. As a squad of long course triathletes we've learned that people are very, very particular about tri shorts...so we've just stopped trying . Instead, I recommend you use threads like this to get recommendations and then source your own solution using discounts we'll work to make available to the team.
Will other pieces eventaully show up in the store. In other words, a vest maybe. I have a jacket and love it, would like a vest? Too bad about the kit shorts, they worked like a charm for me, I'd order another pair. Raced IMLP in them, no problems at all.
Just received a new pair of Desoto Forza Riviera shorts. The pad is a larger than I expected and definitely the largest of any of my other tri shorts. Has anyone experienced problems running in these shorts due to the pad size?

I love those shorts. They are the best things I've ever used....hands down.
This sounded odd to me. I've raced long distance in nothing but DeSoto Forza tri suits or bibs since 2006, and found the pad to be perfect for six hour rides followed by 4 hour runs. So I checked the web site and found there is a difference in the newer Riviera model compared to the still sold standard (and cheaper) Forza models of shorts, suits and bibs (from the web site):
Here are the differences between the Forza Riviera TriBib and the Forza Bibbed Tri Short:
If you like our Riviera Tri Shorts, go with the FRTB.
If you like the Forza Tri Shorts, go with the FBTS."
The FRTB has Skin Cooler bibstraps, the FBTS has Liquid Mesh bibstraps.
The FRTB has a thicker float pad, the FBTS has a thin fleece invisipad.
The FRTB has 1 pocket, the FBTS has 3 pockets.
The FRTB has more mid-section support, the FBTS has a little less, but still offers some mid-section support"
Meaning there could well be thickness issues with the "Floatpad". I suggest writing to Emilio DeSoto, letting him know your concern, and asking for an exchange for the standard Forza shorts (although I recommend the bibs). They have OUTSTANDING customer service and could well respond positively.
I have been riding since last weekend with my new Forza Bibbed Tri Shorts (I orginally ordered a size that was too small and exchanged for a larger version) and must admit that they feel absolutely terrific on the bike. I am a bit concerned with running with them in that it feels like I have a lot of layers of clothes on. However, if they bother me, I have tested Rich's recommendation of sliding my arms through the top to remove it and that seems to do the trick.
I have both the Forza Tri short (micro fleece pad) & Forza Riviera TriBib (float pad) - both excellent compression fabrics - short is better for short course stuff (i had some chafing on long runs) & Tribib is better for long rides/runs - i just did IMLP in the Tribib and loved them
I ordered the TRY carbon. At first I thought, too tight, but the tighter fit is less abrasive after three hours. I pre-smear with chamois butter and glide. I take extra butter with me, but haven't used it up to 4.5 bout ride. Bottom line for me was this seems to have worked in prep for my next 12.5 hour IM. I bought the TRY carbon because Chrissy Worthington wears them, but hey I was desperate and tried to try what works. Now I'm alot more comfortable than the severe rash I had to endure on the way to WI. Ing my AG at IMAZ, 2011. By the way, you did 't ask, but my new Adamo seat solved the other problem down there.
Love the Adamo Just picked up another for my road bike last week. I was using an Italia Stella whih was the best seat I ever had but can't best the Adamo.
