  • In like Flynn! Looks like the East is going to invade the west :-)
  •  way to go Nate!  Looks like beers are on me for both you and Scott!

BTW, can we say climbing camp at elevation next summer....  :-)

  • yeah but where in the hell on this coast can we find elevation like that? I guess we could take turns pedaling a trainer that was suspended from an airplane :-)
  • I'm gonna train with a firemans mask on... or perhaps a scuba tank with low oxygen...
  • Dang Looks like the entire Haus is going to be there! This is going to be EPIC!!
  •  mile 6 to mile 25 is going to be fast!

  • Very cool! Looks like I might be Han Solo for much of August so maybe Riley and I can make a road trip up to Tahoe to ride the bike course and recon it for the team

  • Well, it's 2 innagural alpine themed Ironman events in a row for me!

    In for IMLT 2013!

  • IN!
I will be doing a pre-swim, bike and run in July this year as my daughter is getting married there. So instead of aimlessly riding around the lake I can ride the actual course. But more importantly I can swim at 6500 feet and see how that feels.

Already secured lodging at a condo with a 5 minute walk from the Ironman Village. Close enough to enjoy the festivities but far enough that I can get away from it.
  • Its official. I am in! Holy cow!
  • Steve what's the name of the condo?, was looking at Ferrari but that's about it....
  • Wow, looks like a pretty big party headed over there! I think I'll pass on this one. Planning for something like this over a year in advance just doesn't sit well with me, and I know that the altitude is just going to kick my ass. I am looking forward to seeing how everyone acclimates to the elevation though, and I think it'll be a great learning experience for us all!
  • I am in the same boat with Anson on this. I'm happy for all of you who will do this and can't wait to see how it goes!
  • Anyone else just noticing that the bike start and finish are in two different locations.......

Trying to find a place to stay near the swim start....

Are folks leaning towards staying near the beach or down in the valley near the finish line...looks like the wife will be doing some Sherpa duties with T1 and T2 being spread apart....

  • @Steve- I'm going to be up there on July 21-22 and I'll probably ride the couse also, if thats the same weekend, we should meet up. After my ride, i'll post my thought.
  • I'm in for IMHoe.  Curious to see how many in the Haus have signed up or are planning to.

  • @Nate- the condo I am in is the Squaw Valley Meadow with the Pullen Rental Group @ https://www.booklaketahoevacationrentals.com/. $1000 for 5 days including all fees. 2 bed/2 bath full kitchen.

@Peter- Yes, 20-23 July. Plan to ride the Bike course and swim on Saturday (wife will be in a kayak) and then run the hardest part of the course on Sunday AM( wedding is sunday afternoon). We are staying in South Lake Tahoe on the Cali side. PM me if you want to meet up and we can exchange cell numbers.

  • I know another map was posted, but here is a version using ridewithgps.com for people with an account there or for comparison. The first half of the loop looks really fast and the climbs seem fairly manageable, altitude considerations aside.....

  •  Notice the difference in total elevation gain on the Ride With GPS vs Map My Ride ~ 4000' vs 2500'. Commercial (non-military) GPS has a built in dither which could acount for this. Also, the % gradient seems to fluctuate for the same reason.

Dither = stand still and look at the elevation on your GPS watch. You'll notice it varying over time by as much as 80' +/- . Thus, the elevation changes and instant % gradient are unreliable, compared to either a topo map (which MapMyRide uses), or barometric pressure (what you'll see on your Joule if you have one).

Side note, but Garmin Edge 500, 800 and FR910xt also have a barometric altimeter.

  • Remember, the harder it is the better it is for all of you! image Go EN!
  • Joining this convo late. ALMOST signed up for this race yesterday, but the elevation factor gave me pause.  Now that only foundation slots are left, I really have to think about it.

I've trained at altitude (7K-10K) and I did not see a huge difference on the bike, but on the run (especially hills) it was VERY evident.   In a perfect world, I could give up the rat race, move to June Lake, and train all summer for Tahoe, but it's just not in the cards.

Ill be up in Tahoe in August this year so Ill ride the course and let everyone know my thoughts. Who knows, maybe ill get the IM bug and jump in late.

  • As luck would have it, I am taking my family on a motorhome camping trip to Tahoe NEXT WEEK. We are camping in South Shore and I will likely not be able to find the time to ride even 1 loop, but I do plan on driving both the ride and run course. Odds are good I can try and swim at Kings beach tho.

  •  I got in yesterday.  Looking forward to some reports back on the course.

  • Looks like if you didn't make up your mind yet, you're out of luck!
