Hello everyone! My name is Mark Cardinale and I’m from Parker, Colorado.
My A Race in 2013 is Coeur D’Alene and that will be my first full Ironman. B Races will most likely be St. George 70.3 leading up to CDA, and then Boulder 70.3 in early August. I plan to drop another HIM in the schedule in September, but not sure what that will be just yet.
My high level goal for the OS is to get faster on the bike but more specifically I’m looking to:
1>Establish a solid FTP baseline and raise it from there
2>Maintain discipline during the OS. ie. stick to the script
3>Enjoy the journey and learn as much as I can along the way
About me…..
I’m originally from upstate New York, but I have been living in Colorado for the past 18 years with my wife and 2 beautiful children, Lucas (9) and Sophia (7). I have been a long time runner, a recreational biker, and a mediocre swimmer (on my best day). 2012 was first full season doing triathlons culminating in 2 HIM’s in August and September. I enjoyed the experience (and sunk a ton of cash) and I’m looking to step up my game in 2013.
Beyond that I’m very much looking forward to the weather change in Colorado and the opportunity to mix some snowboarding in with my OS training!
Todd Lehman, Riverview, FL (outside of Tampa), originally from Cleveland, OH
My A-races: St. Anthony's, IM Lou, IM FL - Big Goals in 2013!
OS Goals: figure out the EN dashboard and forums, stick to the training plan and come out ready to rock the in-season.
About me: swimming is my worst and the bike is my best with the run a close second. Just turned 40 so this is a big year for me and I have the best wife a guy addicted to this sport could ask for.
Currently living in Roseburg OR and loving the pacific northwest! I'm originally from Mora, MN (go Gophers!). My husband and I moved out west about a year ago from St. Augusting, FL where we attended grad school.
2013 A races include IM 70.3 Oceanside (March), IMCdA (June), and IMCanada - Whistler (August)!!
OS Goals 1) Survive my first OS! 2) Get faster and stronger in the swim, bike, and run. 3) Have a blast!
My Husband is also a triathlete, who has yet to commit to a team or specific training plan. We have the same race schedule and for some reason thought it was completely acceptable to tackle IMCanada 2 months after our first IM (CdA). The next 10 months are going to be awesome!

4. Make friends with my new and first TT bike (kestrel Airfoil) - and become a worthly rider of its greatness.
5. Soak up all the great info and vibes from the team here
About Me: I am mom to two wonderful westie children and the occasional foster westie. I have only done a couple of sprints and a duathlalon. My brother introduced to the sport and to EN. This year I was diagnosed with arthritis in my knees and lower back, so I plan on taking good care of myself so I can be cleared to do IMWI in 2014. In my off time, I tend to sleep since I don't have to worry about SAU's.
I look forward to learning about all my other OS peeps.
4. Have lots of fun meeting and sharing the pain of improvment in the OS with the EN crew.
About Me: This will be my 1st OS and first year with EN. I am 31y/o Civil Engineer and live on the west side of Michigan. I am married with a 1.5 y/o daughter. I really wanted to add some structure to my training this year and have been following EN for a long time before finally pulling the trigger this year. I am really excited about the team and also seeing some big improvements to finally get over the hump to some great results.
Hi everyone! Looking forward to the outseason. Name, City, State -- My name is Scott Giljum and I'm from St. Louis MO. I am mostly training for IMWI with a thought of a half iron somewhere between, but I haven't decided on anything for sure. OS Goals -- I want to get faster in both the run and bike. I am very new to the FTP and Vdot, so I am still trying to get my head around that. I would also like to drop a few pounds to get back to my college fighting weight, but most look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them that. About me -- Like many here, I am married with a 7 year old daughter who is a mix of the greatest kid on earth and the devil's spawn depending on what I am asking her to do. I am still figuring out a lot of this, and I learned a lot by doing the Louisville Ironman this past year. I'm looking forward to moving forward with everyone here!
Sorry no picture just yet, computer issues and work computer restrictions are working against us on that front.
I'm the tall one with the receding hairline in the attached photo. The short one is Becca, 9, 4th grade. Next is Noah, 11, 6th grade. Then Lauren, wife and partner-in-crime for about 20 years so far. L runs marathons (VT City, NYC once every few years when she "wins" the NYRR lottery). Noah is doing his second 5k with me this Thanksgiving, and possibly a mini-sprint in the spring, and is wearing L's VCM shirt. Becca has done a few kids events (Haunted up in Salem, some others), and has her head into doing the 5k with us - we'll see. Photo is atop Hunger Mtn, just outside Waterbury VT, roughly three weeks before my first HIM. All are sincerely supportive of my bad habit, and I do my very best to return the favor.
I'm planning two races this year: Patriot Freetown MA mid-June, and Pumpkinman S. Berwick ME early Sep. The goal is 5:15 in both. I've been known to add a sprint on short notice for social reasons. Pumpkin '12 was my first half-distance, and I finished in 5:56 (my goal) despite a 10m flat. This year I'm gunning for 5:15, and I know it's within reach.
OS - I want to reset my baseline for cycling and running and then to build on whatever I've got. I've found that fast is fun, so I have to assume that faster is funner OS is all about FTP and V-dot and strength and structural integrity for me.
Got dragged into Tri 2009 by a colleague (who I have since forgiven) who shamed me into signing up for the Mothers' Day mini-sprint right here in Sudbury. What can I say - it was like giving alcohol to a teenager - that summer we did six more sprints and I couldn't wait for the ice to melt off the pond the next spring. I still love sprints, but now I'm into Half, and the 12-step program I've signed up for is to get faster - because faster is funner.
Hello, fellow EN NOS Peeps! I am Greg Babb from Birmingham, Alabama. "A" races include Mercedes Half Marathon, Nola 70.3 and finishing up with my 1st ever IM at IMMOO. I joined EN back in April so this will be my first OS with EN.
OS goals are to drop 40 pounds and improve my vDot as much as possible (is a 32-40 bump realistic??). I do not have a power meter, so my bike goals are to move into the top 10 on some of the Strava segments around town.
I am married, a father of 2 boys (6 and 9), and got into triathlon in 2010 after a few years as an avid spin class participant. Through many years of study, I have sucessfully proven that no amount of exercise without a change in diet will result in any significant or lasting weight loss. In 2012 I added a change in nutrition to the exercise equation and have been able to drop appx. 60 pounds so far - although I have gained some of that back since my last race in Augusta 4 weeks ago.
I am looking forward to embracing the pain of the OS, encouraging all of you to do the same, and most of all, getting FASTER!
Dave Campbell, Durham, NC-1st A Race-Raleigh 70.3 June, 2013
OS Goals-Raise Bike FTP from 240 to 250 Get run Vdot up to 43-44 from current 38 without re-injuring hamstring
About Me: Been in the triathlon game since 2003, so finishing my 10th year. At 54yo, getting faster is getting tougher, not getting slower is a goal. So racing smarter is a high ROI deal for me. Past couple OS's have gone well right up till the point near the end when hamstring issues tended to bring gains to a halt. Work as a Operations Manager/Engineer by day.
I'm Rich Miani, 47, from Hoboken, NJ where I live with my wonderfully supportive family: wife Laura, and our kids Matt(13) and Caroline(8). My 2013 A Race is IM Lake Placid.
This is my second OS - what an eye-opener the first one was!!! I am very glad to have found this place (thank you Jim Daley), the knowledge, friendliness, and helpful attitudes of everyone on the team make it an awesome community.
Last year's journey to my first Ironman was great but I do have some unfinished business on the Lake Placid course where a flat tire, wicked cramps, and a well-over-race-weight-me made for a longer day than it had to be. Looking to crush the outseason with some help from all of you :-).
I'm new to Team EN and super excited about joining! My A race for '13 is IMCDA and goals for the OS include:
1. Figuring out my FTP and increasing it 15%+
2. Bumping my V-Dot by 2+ points
3. Lowering my body fat %age by 1%
I live in Summit, NJ with my wonderful family and have been racing in triathlons since a friend introduced me to the sport in 2010. Started with a sprint that fall where I barely survived a 400m swim, graduated to the Antwerp 70.3 in 2011 (my wife is Belgian) and then 2 IMs (TX and NYC) this summer. I seem to do really well staying on training as long as I have a plan in place, but flounder about if I'm not following a daily schedule, so the EN plans are going to be awesome. I also feel like i'll be very motivated by the FTP and V-dot metrics and can't wait for next week's tests. Looking forward to suffering and learning with you all this winter!
Atif Malik . Currently living in Stamford, Ct in about 2 weeks moving across country to San Fran
A Race: IM Lake Placid 2013 . The rest remain to be decided after the move
OS Goals:
1. Not go crazy in the initial 2 weeks during the move and hit key workouts
2. Bump the FTP by 15% .
3. Lose 10 lbs by being regular in training
4. Consistent run at my old vdot.
5. Remain injury free
About me: I have been doing triathlons for over 8 years. Joined EN 2009 . Been very quite on the boards recently because with a new job and now moving across country have very little time to plugin . Oh and to add to that my wife and I are expecting a newborn end-jan .
My name is Hallgeir. I`m 38 yrs old, 3 children and married;-) Livin`in Norway, so cold, short days during winter.
Workin`full time as teacher. Done two IM distance tris: 11.49 in`06 and 10.59 in `07. Since then: mostlly road racing, some short tris and some short run races.
2013 goals: Early july-1/2 IM Haugesund. Sub 5 hrs. IM? Maybee, but late season (Sept).
Outseason goals: Upping my FTP and Vdot;-) (who would say NO??).
Last year my VO2 power on the bike was 360, but I hope I`m above that now (will see om Monday...).
Hope to see 400 w at the end of OS
Need to work on the run, as I`ve been a biker for some yrs now. Did a 1/2 marathon in 1.39 back in 2007, so my goal is to be there again late January
Hi I'm Lisa McCauley, Libertyville IL - My first A race will either be Vineman 70.3 or Door County HIM depending on whether my team gets into Hood to Coast this year - fingers crossed!
My OS goals are to improve my fitness while not causing injury to my already bum knee - the OS is always hard on my knee - too much speedwork on treadmill and I don't get along by week 20 - hoping the 14 week change will help me in that dept.
I'm a 6th grade math teacher and single mother of 3 busy teens/pre-teens. I love EN and have been with them since late 2008. I'm a fairly quiet member as far as the forums go because I just simply don't have the time right now for much more than work, kids and training. However, I am diligent about following my plans!
Sounds like you've got a lot on your plate. I'm doing IMSG 70.3 as well. We should definitely connect as we get closer to the race date. Good luck with the OS.
Little late to the game, but psyched to get started. I'm actually doing my tests in about an hour because I've got biz travel tomorrow (Is that the pain train I hear coming. . .yes, yes it is.)
Joe Manning, Fort Collins, CO -- IMSG 70.3 (5hrs or less) and IMLP (keeping that one to myself)
OS Goals --15% gain in FTP,sub 19' 5K, drop 10lbs
About me -- I have some significant business travel requirements and I'm curious/nervous about how the EN approach will work, but I'm looking forward to getting started. I think my biggest challenge will be staying focused on IMSG 70.3, rather than thinking about the big race in July.
Awesome, I will see you somewhere on the course at IM 70.3 SG next year! No sub 5h goal for me there though, that's waaaay to fast for me. Should be a fun race - as a minimum with only half the suffering if IMSG this year.
Satish Punna here. I live in Moncton, NB, Canada (east coast about 2.5hr drive from Maine border). New to triathlon having done a few sprint races and an olympic race, but I have been running for years with various online coaching but self coached for the past couple of years. I find it's a constant struggle to balance family, work, and sport but thats what keeps things interesting! In 2013 I am going to do the Tremblant 70.3 (A race) , and I'd like to do another long course race late in the summer, as well as a few sprints and maybe an oly. I plan to do a marathon (A race) late fall. My goals are to improve my cycling so I can be competitive with my local triathlon buddies, so that means lifting my FTP. I would also like to lift my VDot and set myself up for a marathon PR without getting injured. Really looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish this outseason!

Carlsbad 1/2 marathon Jan 2013...right at the end of the OS.
Kansas 70.3 June 9th ,
I am hoping to do IMAZ as my second IM...but that remains to be seen...I need to get in first!
I am a stay home mom of two kids, Jillian 11 and Andrew 6. I have been married for 17 years to my biggest supporter, Zac. This will be my 2nd OS and I am actually looking forward to it since I had such great results from my 1st OS! I am still very new to tris, esp biking, so my main goal is to become a stronger and more efficient biker.
IMWI in Sept was my first IM, and was very successful thanks to EN! I am looking forward to more "fun" with EN in 2013!! Bring.It.On!
P.S. Coach Rich...I got the shorty bars professionally installed and fitted, and I am ready to roll!

Have you ever done the E. Murray Todd Half Marathon over at Brookdale CC?
Hi Kate,
For the Kinetic Halt I used a nearby cabin campground, which you can reserve here:

Be warned, it's pretty rustic. So if you like luxuries such as air conditioning and running water, you might want to find a hotel!
Cheers,

I am still very new to tris, esp biking, so my main goal is to become a stronger and more efficient biker.
IMWI in Sept was my first IM, and was very successful thanks to EN! I am looking forward to more "fun" with EN in 2013!! Bring.It.On!
P.S. Coach Rich...I got the shorty bars professionally installed and fitted, and I am ready to roll!
