@Yvette, that works...or if you need a bit of rest b/c you have some solid fatigue, then you can just wrap the OS as scheduled and drop in Swim Camp...then just use that week to taper for the Half...totally your call either way!
My husband will be going in the hospital for the bone marrow transplant this Thursday.
I have been trying to fit my workout s in and only missed a few. But this last week I swam on Monday in the lake with my friends. Didn't have the mental or physical focus. Summed it up to a cumulative fatigue. Then went home and had to take him to emergency. They admitted him till Thursday, I was up for 48 hours Thursdays I had to take two sleeping pills just to sleep.by friday am I was exhausted. So the only work out I did was the monday swim.
I have an oly race on Sunday. So im lost on what to do today and Saturday. Was thinking of trying to get rest on Friday am then a 1600 swim late in day and Saturday off . Can you help wit suggestions? Plus he goes in on the 4th for the transplant and I need help on how to keep up with the workouts 248-568-1314 thanks.
Yvette, thanks for the update. I hope your husband is feeling strong. Let's try to talk this week -- I am at (617) 513-3830 Cell Phone (EST Time) try me when you are free or schedule a time. My schedule is online here: http://meetme.so/patrickmccrann -- Please remember to include your phone number.
I scheduled an appointment with you for June 9 th at 11:30 to 12:00. my cell: 248-568-1314
here is some info so you can help me with a plan
FYI: OLY June 14th. will not be able to attend
HIM; Muncie ...I would love to go. Hotel is booked but he may be just getting home at that time. so I am not sure if this race will happen.
Camp: IMChoo with you, to far off to know if I can attend.
IM Choo in September
Here is an update on my situation. On June 4th WE moved in the hospital and currently Mike is starting the prep for the bone marrow transplant on June 10th. He will be in the hospital for a month. (surprising the window seat became my new bed- ouch!) I will have had 5 days before our meeting to settle in and determine what some of my options are for the workouts. This is what I found out.
There is a Family- workout room- 2 treadmills and one bike. hours 7:30A.M. to 6:00PM
I can run outside , there are several trails close by. One trail I patriotically like, is a out and back 17 miles- along the main road so there is always a lot of traffic.
Fuller Lap pool is across the street from the hospital. the walk is one mile, door to door.
It is open for master swim
Monday to Friday 5:45 A.M. to 7:15 A.M.
Saturday 7:30A.M. to 9:00 A. M.
Triathlete and distance swimmers
Monday and Thursday 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. (Friday sprint day)
So with this information I was considering the following:
Try to keep my schedule as planed for the swim and run. The bike not so good, instead of doing 3 hours on the stationary bike(not a very nice one) do 1-2 hours. Try and go home one day a week to check on the house then ride my bike for three hours at the park- not sure how realistic this is, but its hope .
so on our phone conversation I need you help with a plan.
Also, the bike in the workout room is a recumbent one. When Mike has bad days (reaction from A.T.G. and chemo) I have to workout inside so I'm only a minute away if he needs me. ...
My son cleared his schedule to stay with my husband so I could attend camp Choo this week.As you know, I was not able to attend. So now my son has all this time to help me out. (My husband can’t be left alone for the first 100 days after his bone marrow transplant.) I was thinking of changing my weeks around because I have his help.
I am on the intermediate IM plan week 14(August 10th) .Week 15 is camp week. What do you think if I complete week 14 (August 10th) as written for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, take Thursday off? Then skip to week 15 Race Rehearsal do Friday: swim, bike 112, run. Saturday: bike 112. Sunday: run.
Yvette, that's super awesome of your son. The key thing about camp week (#15) is that there's a recovery week (#16) that's supposed to be there. So I say you can do that, but let's do 15/16/14/17.... Make sense?
I need to run on hills that have a close elevation to IMChoo. I found this road by my house and compared the two. Do you think the Dutton road elevation is close to the IMChoo? I want to start doing all my runs on the Dutton Road, I ran this road for 2.5 hours the other day.
Camp week for me.
Thursday off
Friday:swam 2.5 miles without my wet suit for the 2nd time and it went extremely well. (first time was not good,1.5 miles and I panicked)
Biked: 68.24 /did not go well,/ did not do the run.
Saturday: Biked 74.43// found the my dark place at mile 60.Never did this before. Had to take a break and it took everything to get back on the bike. Changed my drink from EFS to Scratch. not a good idea.
Yvette, I can't see any of those workouts as they are all private. I am happy to talk, schedule away! My schedule is online here: http://meetme.so/patrickmccrann -- Please remember to include your phone number.
I am afraid you aren't eating enough...by now you should be able to get to mile 80 ish before "feeling it"...anything earlier is usually a function of bad pacing and/or bad nutrition. Skratch has light calories IIRC and not a ton of sodium...plus what were you eating (and what was your sweat test results).
I didn't go swim this am because my face was still swollen from the bee/wasp stings. At the end of the ride i couldn't un clip and down I went. I managed to bend the derailleur holder so I am hooping the bike shop can fix it. LOL! at least I had a good ride with power that day.
I am going to change my schedule for the weekend here it is:
Friday/ walk 4 miles/yoga
Saturday/ round trip to Texas to see my grandchildren. will be a long day but well worth it.
Sunday /there is an organized ride i'm going to try and ride so i can practice with power.
YM, totally AWESOME to chat today. I think your plan is good and I hope the swelling goes down. Thought of you yesterday when I got stung in my L Quad while riding...man, that hurt!
yes, thanks for the talk was very helpful. Wow, so sorry about the bee sting. Hope you don't end up with it swollen. Tag you are it... I did my Sunday 3 hour ride and this time something flew in my jersey top and stung me 3 times. By the time the race is here I will have all the stunts worked out. Scratched cornea, two bee stings, one bike fall , one derailleur hanger bent, no wet suit swim panic done, 50 miles bike bonk, backed out of all the summer races,oh yes just one little thing, lots of stress,my husband had a bone marrow transplant. You were so spot on with the quote "Celebrating Life" Now for some help. I think it would be better if I do my RR this weekend. I don't think my body will recover if I do it two weeks out. Are you ok with that?
Yvette, saw your RR today but never called you b/c I stink! Sorry!
My thoughts aren't rocket science...
#1 -- you ate / drank enough for a 1.25 hour ride in the middle of an Ironman. Probably not enough to even make up for your swim. By the time you got to the run ( a miracle in and of itself ), your body was literally in shock.
#2 -- you averaged 76 rpms, a super low number. That means you spend a lot of time mashing gears (maybe not shifting?) and coasting (not pedaling)...that also made not only the bike harder, but the run (tired legs!) as well.
Those are two massive errors, and from that perspective it's amazing you even made it that close to the cutoff. I am pretty sure most folks wouldn't have finished the bike, much less started that run.
Every race is a learning experience...and I think your race is still waiting for you...we just have to adjust and continue to move forward.
Sorry, I could not call you the other morning,I was looking for some direction on workouts. Mike was having problems and was moved to Intermediate care unit. On Tuesday , March 29th he had the Whipple surgery performed.
I am in week 6 of the HIM Beginners plan. I have completed all the workouts up to his surgery. This week I was able to ride in the lab for 1.5 hours on Friday.
I 'm going to fit in what I can. I have the HMarathon in one week.
Thanks for taking the time to talk with me. Just hearing your voice made everything real. I am going to use this Micro to update you daily as much as possible,it will keep me focused and accountable.
Thank for the positive vibes this week, it helps a lot. Almost called you again but refrained .
Monday did my swim 2300
Tuesday was bike test. Spent the entire day at the hospital with Mike. Needed some RR it was 8 PM so I promised myself if I went to the nail shop and had a manicure I would have to come home and bike test. Forced myself to do the bike test at 10:30PM. Here is the comparison. Considering everything that happened the last two week I'm happy the numbers are going north.
I plan on doing the run test Wednesday.
Could the higher heart rate be because I was tired? What else should I look for?
I've been so preoccupied with Mike having a bone-marrow transplant and then the surgery of a "Whipple". I didn't realize how much you and your family are enduring with the water damage to your home and then your health issues. I just read all about it. I am so sorry!!!! I know how difficult the repair of water damage can be. As I told you on the phone I am an Interior Designer. I have a lot of manufactures that I work with and if you need anything let me know.
I hope your are able to find an answer for your health issue. I know how difficult it has been for Mike and I over the last 8 years. I cant imagine the frustrating you have with no answers and in addition having your home turned upside down.
Defiantly, will keep questions to a need base only, or post to a forum.
Yvette!! How do you have room in your heart for compassion for others? You are awesome.
We are fine. We have a rental home and a great builder. I have Coach Rich to challenge me daily at work and little girls to chase.
I am a firm believer that there is a method to the madness; I am searching it out, one day at a time.
Now, if you could help me navigate the insanity that is my bank (mortgage) that won't issue the insurance company money to me without my first born child...
PLEASE keep the questions coming...you are keeping me sane!

You are so much tougher than even you know (just ask the bees!!!).
Hi Coach! Best to you at Kona this week.
I'm racing the Half Marathon in Detroit and will wing the next two weeks.
I finished my race report from IMChoo and we have an appointment on Oct 14th at 1:15 pm. here is my report
