J.T. Thompson from Boulder CO here jumping in at the last minute (of course pushed by my EN brother Bruce to get on board) This is my 4th season with EN and will be my first real OS as every year before I've been down with various injuries - from skiing to bike crashes - but feeling good this year and confident all will be good. Great to see so many other EN vets in this group.
Races - Boulder 70.3 in June, Chicago ITU race in June, and IM Tremblant in August are the current races signed up. Thinking hard about Kris Gleason American Zofingen Duathlon - would be 3rd straight year and may be hard to pass up the hat-trick.... Will probably also do a few other local Colorado races.
OS Goals - Stay healthy is number 1. Keep my level of fitness up and try to improve. I travel a lot for work, so may be a challenge to get in all the workouts, but some will be better than none.
About Me - 51 years old and just moved to Boulder a year ago. Loving the active life out here and getting the chance to train in such a great area. Little intimidating at first to jump into the swimming master tri class and have multiple IM winners there and getting pushed to go harder by Dave Scott....but lots of fun. As many know, my brother Bruce is also part of EN and we'll be racing together in Chicago and at IM Tremblant - and in the shape he's in, I'm in trouble again.
A Races: IM Mont Tremblant with my sister Trish Marshall and my husband Brian.
Grand Rapids 703.
OS Goals: To buy a friggin' new pair of bike shorts and retire 2 pair that are embarrassingly old. Had a great JOS last year, need to be able to hold the hard duration better so it can translate to racing.
About Me: Married to Brian who got me into triathlons and created the success highs I've experienced to date in the sport. ( I take all his equipment) He'll be doing his first Ironman this year and I can' wait to share it with him.
Hi, David McLaughlin checking into 2014 OS. My Vdot as of this AM is 39 and my goal is to bump that up to 41. More to come as I test on the bike over the weekend, my best guess is 200 and change with a goal of 225 FTP. This is my fourth OS and going into it I'm already 2 lbs lighter than last season.
March I have a HM in Philly as well as the Hell of Hunterdon bike ride of about 80 miles.
April is the American Zofingen duathlon in NY. My season races are at this point in pencil but I will have my concentration on SC stuff. More to follow as I figure things out. Time to stop working out and start training! Good luck to us all!
I must have met you somewhere around here in the past. We are right in Little Silver! I'm sure I know you - I need a picture:-) I will be doing the Philly Half also, and we will be cheering you on in IMLP! I'm thinking about the Aquabike as a tuneup for IMMT! Best of luck in the OS - I'll be right there with you:-)
Carol DeFazio: 64 in July, live in Little Silver, NJ, married to ENer Turby Wright
Swore I'd NEVER do another Ironman after Kona... but, well, you know how that goes!
A-races: Mont Tremblant 70.3 in June, Ironman Mont Tremblant in August.
Third (?) OS with EN. Short term, hope to get rid of the holiday fat and laziness! Longer term, would like to increase both my FTP and Vo2 this year; especially FTP. Really gonna work on that bike! I would like to take some time off all 3 disciplines at IMMT so I have some work to do! Also need to figure out why I suck at swimming, but I always manage to make it out of the water.
I'm so excited to see how many JOS folks there are! WooHoo - we will need all the support we can get...
@ Nemo --- JT is finally healthy for once going into OS. I'm happy for him and hope he stays that way while he builds his OS mojo. I'm excited to see what kind of time he can do in an IM when he can actually train and prepare properly. He has an amazing ability to rise to the occasion and pull a good race out of nowhere with limited training.
Bruce, You guys are gonna love IMMT- looking forward to tracking you! The knee is still recovering. I'll be 8 weeks out from surgery at the start of the OS. No running for me, but I should be able to do all the biking. I just have to be cautious and will ice after every workout. The Physical Therapy has been very helpful in keeping me on track and not getting too bummed out.
Aquabike at IMLP or Family Challenge? I decided to do the Aquabike at Family Challenge as a warm up for IMLP. It is going to be a crazy good summer
We'll have to connect for a run at Bodman or Holmdel or another hilly local venue. My mantra this year is " I love hills." Good to know that familiar faces will be on the course in Placid, I will need all the good mojo I can muster!
@ Cathleen - look forward to meeting you at Grand Rapids. I think we are starting to get crtical EN mass for that race and we should set up a group in April for the final push.
Hey Team-I'm excited to Join the OS group starting Monday!
Brian Rawlins, New Lenox, IL (South burbs of Chicago)
A Races-IMAZ, Steelhead 70.3, and Effingham 1/2 Iron (small, southern IL local race)
OS Goals-Go with the flow-open myself up to a different training model and experience. This is only my 3rd season of Triathlon and I just did two seasons of following a training plan from a book. Looks like these workouts are much different and I'm excited to give it 120% everyday. First time riding with power so I'm excited to really work on and improve the FTP!
About Me-Married to my wife, Laura, for 9 years. No kids, both of us work 60-70 a week like most of us! I work in the property/casualty insurance industry in our claim group. Family (wife, sister, sister-in-law) full of All-American swimmers/track stars and then you got me with the leftovers. Got into Tri because I was out of the pool for 10 years, watched my wife race for several years and she decided in 2011 to do IMWI so I decided to sign up. Finished IMWI 2012, IMKY 2012. Am a swimmer...learning to ride and run. Love competing and training hard, but, want to go after what I know I have inside!
Looking forward to meeting and training with you all!
Brandon Cantrell - Huntsville, AL. IM Chatt, Gulf Coast 70.3, various short course races OS Goals - Lift my FTP, take long walks on the beach, do some fast running Did my first 140.6 last year, then a fall marathon, so looking forward to doing some biking. And even swimming. Maybe not as much though
@Brian Rawlins... Welcome to the team. I work in Frankfort, live in Bourbonnais. Several other team members in the area, check out the member map.
While I'm at it I've yet to put up a post in this thread....just saw it yesterday. This will be second OS, although last year I kind of did two half outseason's due to an interruption from a hernia operation at end of December, so looking forward to uninterrupted one with some good gains.
Race schedule is a half marathon in April....want to break 1:45, local HIM in July(Springfield)....goal to break 5hrs, then return to IMFL in Nov.(last year was first full 140.6).....goal to nail nutrition and be able to execute to my fitness level (bad gut cramps caused a LOT of walking)
Thinking a 10 watt jump in FTP, and a bump of 2 to the Vdot this OS should put me in a good position to reach above goals. TONS of experience and mojo in this Jan. OS group, VERY excited to be a part of it
Sorry I'm late to the party, I'm just getting back from a 2 week trip to Costa Rica over the holidays. Rough life, I know.
For those who don't know me, I'm the dude on the right:
Trevor Garson, San Diego, CA
2014 races -- Wildflower, June Lake Half (maybe), whole slew of local short course and hopefully an Xterra or two
OS Goals -- Stay fit, don't overdo it and have fun! Looking for an injury free OS to stay sharp while I focus on technique and biomechanics over raw volume.
About me -- Triathlon has been an huge part of my life over the past several years and I am extremely grateful for the experiences I've had in this sport and for my development as both an athlete and a person. While I've managed to whittle my way towards the FOP, I've made the decision to take my 2014 season in a new direction, dramatically easing off of long course racing and emphasizing new races, new experiences and triathlon as more balanced portion of my life rather than the defining factor. I may cave yet and find my way back into another Ironman this year, but for now I'm simply looking forward to trying to be the best person I can be rather than the best triathlete I can be
Turby Wright from Little Silver N.J here ready to start suffering with you all on Monday!! I'm looking forward to moving into a new age group this year and not getting beaten so badly! Goals are to improve some on the swim (really need it), really focus on getting stronger on the bike and to not be last in my age group in transition (that one should be easy!). Oh and to try and keep up with my wife and teammate Carol DeFazio (that's a losing battle)! We also both can't wait to start some good Core Diet eating habits and end the holiday gluttony!
Happy New Year to all and good luck on your test Monday!!
I just received my season plan from coach R, and I have to remove myself from this group. Since I am racing IM 70.3 Florida on 4/13 I will be starting the GF Plan on Monday instead of Jan OS. I was looking forward to this, but it's all good. This year I will be doing IM Chatt vs. Cozumel, so I will most likely be doing the OS in 1/15. Enjoy everyone and kick some butt!

Paula - go ahead and stick with us in the Jan OS as the go-to place/group to note your concerns, musings, queries. Many of us are not necessarily following the exact week by week, day by day OS program. EG, I am now actually in week 4 of the OS; some of us will be adding run wkos training for Boston, others will be focusing on early season races like you, etc.
It's always better to share the misery rather than feel as if you are training alone.
Good evening all! Another JOS is upon us - and it should be fun, especially with Kori & Kate cracking the whip!

Thanks in advance for all of your insights and help along the way.

This will be my 5th OS and first JOS and coming in with very little training and months off. Tried to ramp it up a couple weeks ago and go sick. Weight's been an issue for me and the time off of training has put me back quite a ways.
Looking forward to the OS the EN mojo is always great for motivating me.

Yeah, I still wear Mapso kit when I race. It's my local club.
