Awesome - I got the go ahead from the husband - just waiting to hear back from my MIL that she can come and take care of the kids. She said she would call this afternoon with a verdict. Do we arrive on Wednesday or Thursday?
OK, so is there offical confirmation that this is happening? I was looking to book travel and the like but before I do that I wanted to get official confirmation. I know Patrick has been a bit out of pocket with Kona but wanted to try and find out.
Alright, I'm in. I'll grab my CC at lunch and get my deposit down. I'm still a little nervous as I'm not the strongest biker, but I figure if I'm behind and get lost someone will eventually come out and find me right??
Talked to Anne and she gave me some encouraging words!!
Leslie, having been to an RnP camp before, they're awesome, and you have no need to worry about being left behind. Think of it as four-star, catered suffering. Plus, we'll be a month into IMNZ training, so you will show up as one of the fitter cyclists. And leave struggling to walk.
OK Team - I did the Great Floridian Triathlon (Clermont) aquabike today - did it in 2010 and 2012 too, plus a bunch of other rides and another brand X training camp in the area. I will be driving over from Tampa for some EN joy! Are most of you guys bringing road or tri bikes? I road my tri-bike today with compact crank and 11-28 which really helps going up Sugarloaf. They even had timing mats at the bottom and top on the first loop to encourage folks to destroy their legs early on the 112 mile route.
@ Mike - I want to hear all about the New Zealand trip...before and after!

I'm curious too about whether it makes sense to bring the road or tri bike. Thanks for the gearing advice.
If you won't be building towards a tri race, you'll probably like the road bike better in Clermont. I'll 6 or 7 weeks out from IM, so I'll be all tri bike. Compact front, 11-25 rear, is what I'll be riding. If I can't handle the hills with that gearing, my legs deserve the thrashing and humiliation.
Is there a separate forum for those of us who are for sure a- GO? Just wondering about maybe coordinating rental cars from the airport depending on flights with arrival times that make sense.
Jed! Great to have you on board! I say Road Bike unless you have a race early in the year (March/April)....we could actually sit up and talk like real people!!!!
Leslie, this is the official thread...so you can chat and coordinate here!!!
I'm going to drive in- hoping to recruit some more NC peeps to come, anyway, driving in and willing to bunk up with anyone who wants to share a hotel room, let me know. don't snore and I bring snacks.... just saying!
Alright, it's for real now! I just bought the plane ticket and will be sending the rest of the cash to P. I wanted to get some thoughts on bike transport from the crew. I have never flown with a bike so I don't know how that really works but would love to hear any advice from anyone who has. Also, based on the thread it sounds like road bike unless race coming up? Finally, I am doing the NOS, Coach P will I have to hack my training so that this week doesn't kill me?
Scott - I've flown with my bike a lot...4 times this year alone. No big deal, but you need a case. There are also bike shipping services like bikeship.com or bikeflights.com, etc. What you do depends on how long you think you'll be in the sport and how often you'll fly. Some bike stores rent cases if you aren't sure. How much it costs to take a case on the plane depends on the type of case and the airline. How much disassembly is required depends on the case. Lots to think about and lots of opinions out there. There are some threads on EN and ST regarding the best cases. I look forward to meeting you at the camp.
Anyone needing to rent a car? Looking at my flight options - I'll arrive Orlando Thurs 1:15 pm and depart Monday 2:00. Definitely willing to hang around for a short bit or leave for the airport earlier if I can share a car with someone(s). With corporate discounts - Looks like I can get a full size car for around $200 or SUV for $250.
Alright, I'm starting to toy with the idea of this camp... It will come down to if I can financially do it, as I'm doing the Blue Ridge camp as well. But my question now is what sort of changes would I need to make to the OS to be ready to handle the camp?
It would be cool to do this camp, since I will be living only 2 hrs away from Clermont. But since I will have just moved 3 weeks prior to the start of the camp from PA to FL, I dont think it would be smart to do. When I used to live in FL several years ago, I used to go to Clermont once a year for some biking. Great area and the only place in FL with hills.
Jan - I'm calling you out on the hills...Clermont is not the only place. There are at least 4 areas in the state with good hills to ride.
1. San Antonio-Dade City-Brooksville. Icecream hill, the triple bitch (a mile long) and many more. As good as Clermont. 2. Clermont - Sugarloaf, Buckhills, etc. 3. Tallahassee - did you ever run the Springtime 10K ... bring some climbing rope for the end. 4. The spine of south Florida around Babson Park. Scenic 17 triathlon picks up a lot of them.
I can't speak for the coach as I'm too short, too stupid and way too slow, but I have attended a P camp before. People will file in at all hours on Thursday at noon, afternoon, evening, late night, and some may even show up at the crack of dawn the next day. On the final day of the TX camp, we started the run around 8am, finished by 10 or 10:30, and most left by noon. Some shortened the run to catch an early flight, some gathered for lunch and caught later flights. If you're flying out of MCO, you'll want to leave Clermont at least 2 hours before your departure time. If you can move that depature time out to 2pm or later, you'll be good.
Folks, remind your teammates that registration closes on 12/1...I have posted the reminder to the dashboard but want to give everyone a fair shot. Going to be epic! Info is at the top of this thread...
Airline tickets - check Car Rental - check (willing to share if anyone needs. Arriving Orlando at 1:15 on Thursday) Check is in the mail as we speak!!!
I too have the check in the mail as they say. And since I will be running in 15 degree weather tomorrow, this camp has me more and more pumped! @Leslie, I get in at 12:40 to MCO (if the weather gods cooperate at least) and would be happy to share a rental. I leave Monday at 3:15. If that works for you, let me know and we can work out the details. This is going to be great!

Glad the camp is on!
Thanks!

Thinking about this camp too.... Is it possible to come in late thursday night and leave late Sunday night?
Jed
I am in! Now have to decide between tribike vs road bike.

Hey coach P-
Will there be coaching and/or video done at the swim sessions (or is it simply a squad-type workout)? Thanks!
