Rachel - I know several water stops in the vicinity of Sugarloaf. Plus, there is a retired Air Force F-4 fighter pilot who lives at the top of Sugarloaf and keeps coolers of water at the end of his driveway for cyclists.
Note to all, I did an indoor century ride on my drainer yesterday - Spinervals Hard Core 100. I am now a true Iron Butt...ready for the volume camp!
@Paul, I managed 2.5 hrs on the trainer yesterday and can't even imagine an indoor century. Nice mental fortitude. It'll be fun to get outside in Clermont and do some climbing.
@Rachel and those worried about fuel/maps/directions/getting lost, here's how things worked at Coach P's TX camp: The sag vehicle will likely be located a various locations throughout the day. So, for example, when we left, we knew to look for the Sag car at around Mile 21, and the only turns we had to worry about were Turn A at Mile 10 and Turn B at Mile 17. At the first Sag stop, Sag Stop #2 would be pointed out on the map, we'd all re-load with Gatorade, bars, etc., and most of us would look for a convenient tree, shrub or ant hill to relieve pressure. I carried 3 bottles (aero + 2 others), but only needed 2. If you get a mechanical (we had someone shear off his entire derailleur in TX doing an epic double-shift) or worse (we had a minor crash there too), you'll have the Sag phone # on your phone. Worked like a charm - we were always fueled up, directions were easy, and we kept track of all the riders. Not saying this is exactly what P has planned for Clermont, but I suspect it'll be close. He runs a class show, so no one will get lost or go thirsty, hungry or pain-free.
Mike - I did Spinervals Tough Love (3 hrs) and Spinervals Showdown at the Coyote Corral (4 hrs) before tackling the Hard Core 100...all part of the Spinervals 32 day challenge. The only significant change was I did the century on Jan 4 instead of Jan 1 so I could take advantage of the cooler weather on New Years Day for a long run.
Rachel, my take? If you're not in the final weeks towards a tri or you're not looking for aero practice, road bike is a great way to go. Lots o climbing in Clermont. I'm 7 weeks out from IM, so I'll be in the aerobars on my tri bike. But, either way, you can't lose - you'll be riding outside in 70F in January.
Hey Mariah, I thought you bailed due to your injury. I will start packing tomorrow night and drive over Thu. Weather looks very good. Except for Friday with a forecast high of only 65 we should see 70s everyday.
@mike--- yea I'm TOTALLY here for work this early.... Yea... Sure... That's it
@paul I will swim and ATTEMPT to bike but absolutely no running.... Couldn't pass up seeing my EN peeps just bc of my dumb knee. Stoked to see you all!
Coach P - the schedule says we are running on a "bike path" for Monday's long run, but the map for the run is showing the dirt Orange Grove trail south of Clermont. If the latter (which is preferable) will you have a water stop out there for us or do we need to bring a fuel belt? I've run it before and there isn't jack on that road except what you take with you.
OK, I realize this is prob a bit late.....but life only allows me to be able to look ahead 24-48 hours.....and I'm thinking, "what should my workouts be on Tues/Wed/Thurs??" Do I do back to back bike/run on Tues/Wed and swim early thurs am before flight to FL? Or just bail on thursdays workouts - hope that I can get my bike together in time for a quick spin in FL (anyone else interested?) - and if not - it was a nice day off?
Leslie - For me...there is no change to my planned workouts on Tuesday and Wed. I'll be running hard on Thursday morning, but that's it. That gives me 24 hours recovery to Friday morning when camp starts. There's plenty of biking on Fri-Sat-Sun so I wouldn't worry about missing a ride Thursday.
You and I are in the same boat (Week 13) headed toward the same island (New Zealand). Except I'm pretty sure you're doing the IM plan with long run on Sunday instead of Thursday. If true, the Clermont camp sets up nicely for you. Unless Coach P says otherwise, I would follow plan through Wednesday, do what you can/want to on Thursday (don't get up at 3am just to get on the trainer, then tear apart and pack your bike, race to the airport, and show up in Clermont exhausted), and let camp take care of the rest. If you have to miss your workout(s) on Thursday, I woudn't feel guilty about it at all. You'll be getting your long bike (x2.5), your long run and a couple weeks' worth of swimming at camp.
If, on the other hand, you're following a traditional EN IM plan with long run on Thursday like I am, I posted on the Micro to get P's take on handling three long runs in seven days (Thursday, Monday at camp, then next Thursday).
You guys will have a great time, especially those coming from the cold. I live in Sarasota, about 2 hrs south of Clermont. Did 27 miles outside around noon, 79 degrees, sunny and 9 mph wind. Wish I could always do that instead on sitting on a training. Dont forget your sunscreen
Jan - I'm doing the Gasparilla 15K and 1/2M...just to spike my running volume that week...not racing...especially since my run engine these days only knows slow and slower. Will be at the Florida 70.3. St Anthony's sucks...I'll pass.

Hoping some of the spots remain open Would love to participate next year, but just cannot commit yet as too many uncertaintities in life besides triathlon to plan so far ahead. Looked like this year was a blast.
This is for the people who did the Clermont camp in January.
I am going to be in Clermont on Sunday and was planning on riding 2-3 hours. Would any of you who did the camp in January mind sharing your bike files ? Thanks.

If I wasn't excited before, the negative windchill has me dreaming of Florida sunshine and outdoor riding!

That said, if what you and P have planned for us takes 3-4 days of prep, this camp will be awesome.
