@Scott - our air travel plans sound like the will sync well - I leave around 2:40 on Monday. I'll upgrade to an SUV to fit both bikes bags and gear - should be around $200 total for the rental. I woke up to 7 degrees below zero this morning.....WITHOUT the windchill...not sure we are supposed to get up into the double digits this week
Looks like a fun, fast group. If this camp does what the last one did to me, we should all exit the meat grinder that is Clermont way stronger. This time, however, no crashes, no broken fingers. My check is in the trusty hands of the USPS.
Don't drag any of that nasty weather down south with you! I anticipate that you guys will be talking about how nice the weather it is and I'll be complaining how cold it is. Even low 60s typically keeps me in the pain cave.
Just another update on the January Volume Camp with everything from lodging to Routes and More. This is a detailed read, so please take the time to review it all!!!
How To Modify Your Training: With just over a month to go until we get our camp on, some of you are undoubtedly freaking out. Don’t. This is a volume camp and unless you are racing in March/April, you don’t have any “work” goals aside from exercise time. I suggest you work to extend your Saturday ride to about 2.5 hours, and include a Sunday “PreRun” Spin in Zones 1-2 somewhere between 1 and 1.5 hours. This will put your weekend ride time at about 4 hours, which isn’t that far from any one session we’ll do out there (with stops) save for the century. If you want more specific details, please feel free to ping me in the Micro Forum! http://members.endurancenation.us/Forums/tabid/57/aff/468/Default.aspx
Dates:1/15/15 to 1/19/15; as in we check in on Thursday the 15th by 5pm and we check out on Monday the 19th by 12pm.

If you have further questions about payment or the camp, please email support@endurancenation.zendesk.com with the subject "January Volume Camp 2015"
During Camp Week, you can reach Coach Patrick on his cell phone (call or text): 617-513-3830
Camp Hotel: This will be Camp Central all weekend so program your GPS devices!
Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott
1750 Hunt Trace Boulevard
Clermont, FL 34711
Phone: 352.394-6585
Camp Lodging: You will be sharing a hotel room unless you specifically asked for single accomodations. Your room will be ready for you when you check in. Should you need to change your room for whatever reason, please work with the staff at the front desk.
Camp Food: Breakfast will be at the hotel. Lunch will be on the road...so pack all the bars you might possibly need! Dinners are included -- except for the arrival night as you will all arrive at different times -- and yummy! If you have any unique dietary concerns, please email support@endurancenation.zendesk.com right away so we can take care of you (thanks to those of you who have already!).
Swimming at the National Training Center (Friday and Sunday Mornings): We will probably walk or carpool over, but just so you have the address:
1935 Don Wickham Drive
Clermont, FL 34711
(352) 241-7144
Group Me Texting: We will use this as our default camp weekend communications tool; you’ll get an invitation on Monday the week of the camp to your email address. GroupMe is an app you can use on your smartphone OR you can use the text alert option (charges will most likely apply to the texting). You can learn more about GroupMe here.
GPS:We Strongly Recommend You Have A Bike GPS Unit!!!!The only thing worse than not knowing where you are going is riding around trying to pull out pieces of paper every quarter mile. While there is a MapMyRide App, it does NOT give you turn by turn directions. If you don’t have such a unit, we can help you purchase one at a discount; please email support ASAP.
Your Bike:Bring it. Be ready to ride it. We recommend a tribike or a road bike with either a 12/27 rear cassette or a compact crank (50/34 front) -- you will thank us later. You might want to get a quick tune up before you travel to camp, especially if you have been hammering on the trainer for a few months. If you are renting a bike on site, be sure to get in a quick test ride before we head out...you might want to make some adjustments!
Swim and Run: We will be doing both, so please bring all that gear!
Nutrition: We will have Gatorade Endurance Powder and other Gatorade Fuel (chomps, gels). If you have personal nutritional preferences or special needs, please bring this nutrition with you and be ready to carry it and/or store it in the SAG vehicle for pit stops. Please remember bike bottles, etc., as it you will get really thirsty!

I am excited about the camp and look forward to meeting new EN teammates. I hope we have excellent January weather for you. This time of year the weather cycles up and down depending on what cold fronts from the north have pushed far enough south to influence our weather. This week is a good example. A front came through yesterday and our low was 43 this morning....brrr! I was swimming in my usual outdoor pool this morning (81 degree water) which isn't any fun getting out with that air temperature. Today's high is mid 60s and we'll be about that through the weekend then back to about the low 70s. The NTC pool is also outdoors and you can expect cool mornings since Clermont is central to the State and doesn't have the Gulf to moderate temperatures.
I'm in the middle of the Spinervals 32 day challenge so biking outdoors should be a nice change up after a month long stint in the pain cave. But then again, I'm probably preaching to the choir! See you there.
I'm with Paul . . . very psyched about this camp. Average temps in Clermont for mid-January are lows around 50, highs around 70. Rain chances are as low as they get in this state. And to us soft Floridians, 50 or 60 degrees may sound cold (I ran in 53 degrees today and I crossed two runners who were wearing ski jackets and stocking caps - not kidding!), but to the more hearty of the bunch, riding in 60 degrees of sun in January will be heavanly.
Oh, and I assume it's OK for those of us with an IM a few weeks after the camp to start panicking just a bit?
PANIC MODE for sure!!! But off set by the stellar excitement! Not sure if I'm more excited about getting 4 days/nights away from Mom Duty, or the pain ....I mean work......I mean SPEED that will be created
normally if I was traveling I would ship via bikeflights.com, but since time is so short on this trip I will fly with it. Flying with the bike is a pain, the ruster sports cases gets me around the bike fees BUT it's a pain lugging a bike case through an airport so I avoid whenever possible.
Relatively warm in Tampa today with 62 low and 75 high.
@ Robin - I thought about buying the Ruster as a back-up option until I saw that you have to take the fork off...not willing to do that on a superbike.
I'm arriving at 2:30PM on Thursday from Indianapolis, I've already gotten a rental car and if anyone is coming in around that time and would like a ride let me know and we'll figure it out.
I'm going to place a food/nutrition/stuff order on amazon, holabird sports or run junk (maybe all three)if anyone is interested in piggybacking on that and saving shipping, and not having to travel with extra 'stuff'. I'll need your order by early next week so we can make sure it gets there in time. When I get my list of stuff together - I can let you know what site(s) I'll order from by the weekend.
Leslie, although you can upload maps to the 910xt, the user experience is pretty poor. I've tried it a few times, including on Day 1 of Coach P's IMTX camp, but it's been mostly useless to me. Tiny map, and the only prompt you get is "you're off course" - usually when I am safely on course. Thankfully, I printed turn-by-turn directions as a back-up (with the approximate distance for each turn - i.e.," R on Hwy 1486 (mile 65.3)"), waterproofed it with packing tape and taped it to my aero water bottle, and those paper directions worked 100x better than the 910xt. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The Garmin 500, 705, 800, etc. all have very effective map features with good prompts that keep you on course. Mapmyride also has an app, but I haven't tried it. Just find someone at camp who's got a Garmin 500+ and try to keep them in sight (with an iPhone and a paper map in your pocket as back-up).
OK folks - it looks like I'm going to order from Amazon. Getting everything from tubes to nutrition - figure it's easier to only have to travel one way with it
Give me a shout by mid next week if you want me to order anything and have it shipped to the hotel. Free shipping
Can't wait - Our high temp tomorrow is 0 Degrees..... ZERO....without the windchill - I can't wait to get out on the road with you all!
Hey Mike - thanks for the bad news I'm not a member at map my ride - so printing doesn't work so well - but I certainly could type them up and get them on my water bottle - great idea. Wouldn't be the first time I had to pull out my phone to get be back home. Fingers crossed I'm not the last one out there and returning when everyone else is finishing up the run
