Hey Bob, Thanks again. As people are flying in and landing across a wide timeframe on Saturday, and I'm driving up the vans with the rest the crew and will arrive in Sac around 4p, my plan was to identify a rally point downtown where we'll all assemble, with campers taking cabs and shuttles from the airport. This worked well a couple times in the past and we met at a bike shop.
I'm waiting to see what the route is on Sunday to decide if we'll stay in Sac and do the Sunday ride, or drive to Nevada City on Saturday and ride from there. I'm thinking (1) the ride in Sac will be a circuit-type course and (2) we may stay in Sac so the campers can do "a" ride but also enjoy the vibe and excitement of the race before we start to crush ourselves.
I watched American Flyers during my 90 minute run today. It was -27 windchill here but the movie helped pass the time and got me totally fired up for TOC camp!

We have time to grow some sweet facial hair to sport at the camp
I think I can train Riley to be the new Eddy (click on the image)
Rich you can totally pull off a Sergei beard. I'll stick with the Marcus 'stache. And I think you should bring Riley to IMWI camp to play Eddy on Old Sauk.

Ok...Stage 1 actually looks like a good ride, and flat. So that would be a good opportunity to do some group riding skills work, to get people dialed into riding together.
Team Pasadena (Dino, Peter, Jon), expect me to hook up some organized group work locally beforehand.
Stage 4 looks like a better stage than I thought it would be, but we're still going to ride down the coast from Big Sur to Ft Hunter Ligget.
In other news, on Saturday Dino and I ran into a local guy who runs a mtn bike shuttle service with a pimped out Sprinter passenger van. I've hooked him up to work the Tour with us, with his van
550 miles in the first 5 days. If I do 2/3rds of that, I'll consider it a victory. Then: TT 15 miles; climb Glendora + Baldy; LA circuit 40 mi + 9 more laps.
Still debating which bike to take. My arms start to give out after 2-3 hours on drop bars.

We absolutely won't do all of these miles but...it's the ToC. You'll be trashed, for sure. I think we've consistently gotten in 400-500mi across the week.
Looking at Stage 1, for example: I'll probably have us stop in Davis because Davis is a cool town. Watch them go by, then pack everything up move to our hotel for that night in Nevada City.
Stage 3...wow, can't believe they're not going up Sierra Rd = 5k at 10-16%. Still, that's an awesome ride, especially Mine's Road, etc. But you see we need to beat the Tour to Hwy 130 or else we'll be fooked, stuck in the mountains. So I plan to pull us at 130, for quicker access down to the freeway.
We're not doing the LA circuit. Our last day of riding is Saturday.
Bring whatever bike you'll be most comfortable/can do the most miles on.
@ Bob - I am getting in a few hours before the cheezy folks... 10:44 jetblue #161 from JFK, anywhere serving beerz b4 noon? I expect to be shipping bike to Coach R prior to the event.
@Al T - I am going with the road bike on this outing
@Scott - When you arrive it'll be 5 o'clock somewhere so I'm sure we can find a place serving beerz. I'll meet you at the baggage pick-up area once you come down the escalator from the gates. Also, hope you have a Happy Birthday and good luck with the 50k on 50!
Looks like I'm getting in same time as Scott: 10:46. Bringing my bike in a suitcase (26") + a backpack. Probably my road bike, which has seen a lot of roads over the past 20 years. "Steel is real".
Bob, and any other Sac locals reading this thread:
Everyone is arriving and staying in Sacramento Saturday night. I'm going to host a dinner for all of the campers somewhere downtown. Any recommendations for a dinner venue that can accommodate about 25 people? You guys are welcome to join us. We'll figure out details, RSVPs later.
You're also welcome to ride Stage 1 with us, though I expect I'm going to pull us out at Davis vs doing the whole stage. I do, however, need to swing a van through Sacramento to pick up Stephanie (flying in on Sunday) so I should be able to give you a ride back to your car.
Thanks Coach. I appreciate that. As for dinner recommendations for Saturday night in Sacramento, I can make it happen if you'd like. Just let me know which hotel (so I can try to find a restaurant near it), what type of food you'd like (pasta, burgers, etc.), and price range per meal and I'll report back after the reservations are made. Let me know.
I'm still negotiating all of the hotels for the camp so not sure at this time where we'll be staying...but it will be downtown. I expect we'll arrive in Sac about 4p, would like a couple hours to get everyone checked into the hotel, bikes unloaded, etc. I'll get back to you closer to the camp but thanks for the offer to arrange the deets for dinner!
I'm deep into ToC prep and outlining our plan for each stage. So I figured it would be more efficient for me to lead a call so I can walk you through the plan for the camp.
How ^this^ will be applied to each stage/day of the camp, specifically...
How much of each stage we'll be riding, complete with maps, profiles, expected bailout points, etc.
Notes for how to prepare, physically, and administratively, for the camp.
And of course I'll be available to answer any questions you have after I finish the formal presentation. If you're unable to attend the live webinar, the session will be recorded and I'll send it right away to everyone afterwards. And of course I'll back up all of ^this^ with additional detailed documentation before the camp.
Thanks and I look forward to meeting with you all in a couple weeks!

Everyone else, you are all welcome to join us for the webinar and I'll post the files here afterwards.
The camp has a TON of moving parts. So rather than spending hours with a gillion tabs open on my browser writing out my plan for the camp, figured it would be easier and cooler to do it as a webinar instead.
