@Trent--roger that. Are you flying with your bike or is Coach bringing it?
I'm bringing up all the bikes, assembling them at my house. No one is flying with their bikes except Al. He has a break-down bike and we've worked something out with him.
We have about 12-14 of you all flying into Sacramento across a range of times from ~11a-4p. The earliest I'll be in Sac, driving up from LA with the 3 vans, will be 4p. The way I plan to work this is:
I pick a bike shop downtown where we will all rally --> that's where the vans go first thing and where you guys gather, using cabs from the airport, etc.
I imagine there's a bar or restaurant near the restaurant where you could meet for pre-game before we arrive. IE, Team Wisconsin and Trent rally at the bar at 2p then stumble over to the bike shop to meet us at about 4p .
At the bike shop you'll be able to pick up anything you're missing, last minute items, etc.
We load up the vans with bodies, bikes, and bags at the bike shop
All of us then go the restaurant for dinner, location TBD, but hopefully close to the bike shop.
We did ^this^ a few years ago and it worked perfectly. I know there's a very good bike shop downtown, I just need to find and publish that.
Fine if you and Bob want to work something out on your own but understand that we've got a lot of people flying in across a range of times. Might be best if you plan to self-serve or share cabs from the airport.
Two months to figure out the details above but that's the 80% plan right there. Thanks!
@Coach: Christi and I really don't mind picking up teammates from the airport since we are available. We have two SUVs we can use to transport. And to be blunt, it gives me a chance to meet teammates (and pick their brains) that I might not otherwise meet. Part of the same reason that I signed up for the Kona Camp since I won't be racing it...this year I currently have info from 8 teammates plus Marc. Two are landing at the same exact time on different airlines but same terminal. Two are 17 minutes apart, and then there are the 4 Cheeseheads coming together.
That being said, if you'd rather I not pick up people due to another reason or liability (I'm a physician, so trust me I'm aware of those concerns), then that's another thing. I think everyone understands that I am not a taxi company nor do I carry taxi service insurance and this is not endorsed or sponsored by EN. This is just like a friend picking you up from the airport.
I did make a few calls to inquire about the availability of dinner reservations for Saturday night. There are "rooms" that can hold 25-30 people still available but they did recommend reserving as soon as possible since the race is in town and it's the dinner before Mother's Day. One place said that if the room is not reserved, they open it up to smaller tables for reservations.
My plan is to take people from the airport to a restaurant (Swabbies Restaurant & Bar www.swabbies.com) about 10 minutes away that's on the Sacramento River. It has live music during the day on weekends and is on the way in to town. It's a dive with good food (Cabo San Lucas and Honolulu style tacos), 19 taps flowing, and lots of outdoor seating. We can stay there til you let us know when and at which bike shop to meet.
@Marc: What time are you landing, which airline, flight number, and from which city is your last transfer?

Hey Bob,
Not a liability issue, just didn't want you to become the ad hoc ToC Sacramento Taxi Service .
The Holiday Inn is in a great location with a lot of restaurants in the area. And Mike's Bikes is about a quarter mile walk away. As for restaurants: PF Chang's (Chinese Food) is 0.2 miles (5 minutes walking) away. Good food and a large seating area. Mikuni's Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar right next to PF Chang's. A little pricey but we could probably get an area for 25 people. The Melting Pot (fondue) is also about 0.2 miles away but is pricey and the restaurant is not very large. Might be difficult to get 25 people together. The Old Spaghetti Factory (lots of open seating with large portions at a reasonable price) that is 0.5 miles (10 minutes walking).
If you are looking for carbs, I'd recommend The Old Spaghetti Factory with PF Chang's a close second--just not sure if everyone likes Chinese food.
Let me know your thoughts and I will make it happen.
@Coach: Reservations for 25 under Endurance Nation at The Old Spaghetti Factory, 1910 J St, Sacramento, (916) 443-2862 on May 9th at 6:30pm are set. They require one credit card for the table and 18% gratuity will automatically be added to the bill. @Coach: Is this meal covered under the registration fee or should everyone bring cash for your food, tax, and tip?
Let me know if there is anything else for which we can be of assistance?
I grew up in SoCal in little town north of Glendale called La Crescenta. But, my parent were both born and raised in Lodi, CA. My mom's side stayed there until I was a teenager. My Dad's family moved to Sacramento when he was 16 or 17. So, I spent summers and many, many holidays in and around Sacramento doing out door stuff with aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. I know Sacramento pretty well.

Ha! That's great! I know Swabbies well. My grandparents and my aunt all live on American River Parkway at one time or another. If you are familiar with the Richards' exit of the 5 fwy there, my Grandfather had hotels and restraints there for decades until he passed away two years ago.
@Dino: Very familiar with the Richard's Blvd exit on I-5. We run/bike the American River Parkway all the time. Do you still have family living in the area? I don't believe that Uber has hit Sacramento yet. Do you know what time your flying in to Executive Airport? BTW, I too will sometimes fly in to Executive if I'm trying to avoid the paparazzi! But seriously, we might be able to work something out but no guarantees. And maybe get you over to Swabbies too. And FWIW--Christi and I tried the Aloe Gloe. We both love it! I've recommended it to some of my patients. If you want a testimonial from an MD who recommends it to his patients, I'd be happy to give you one.
@Bob - Yes, I have a few family members still in Sac-town. My uncle lives near the river north of downtown and I have a cousin in Roseville and other in Folsom.
My father and I will fly up in his plane on Saturday AM and I am sure my uncle will pick us up. I think we will actually fly into Rio Linda. My uncle keeps his plane there and it's super easy to get in and out. I will likely hang out them, maybe see my cousins and then perhaps rally out to Swabbies in the late afternoon.
Thanks the support on Aloe Gloe! I am eager to catch up with you.
Dino- what kind of plane does your father have? I'm a pilot as well (although haven't flown much since picking up triathlon and gave up my share of a few planes)
I've been out of the country the past two weeks, missed the ToC webinar, which I've downloaded, but not yet listened to. But I;m trying to get my plane reservation home lined up. So, questions: what time, and which airport, Ontario or LAX?

We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express on 16th.
Mike's Bikes is the shop I had in mind, the one we straffed a few years ago. They close at 6p on Saturday.
Can you recommend a restaurant in that area that would accommodate 23-24 people?
Ideally, all of this would work like:
...or something like that :-)

I vote for Old Spaghetti Factory. Let's get this Tour of California (Eating) Camp kicked off properly!
Thanks so much for the help!
OSF for 25, would be great if you and your wife/family could join us. Thanks!
@Marc: Roger that. I have you coming in on the same flight as Trent.
It's me, Mike Sokol, Dan Francis, and Paul Francis.
We are all on the same flight: United Flight 381 from ORD arriving at 2:30.
@Coach: Is this meal covered under the registration fee or should everyone bring cash for your food, tax, and tip?
Let me know if there is anything else for which we can be of assistance?
Hey Bob,
Yep, I'm picking up the tab on this and the last dinner. Thanks again!
United has thrown the proverbial wrench in Team Wisconsin's travel plans. Stay tuned but looks like we may be arriving closer to Noon.
The Pre-Camp Webinar is available for download here, also added to the third post in this thread

Sweet. I have a few hours in a Bonanza.
Team Wisconsin now arrives at noon into SMF.
