  • In for the JOS -
Goal is to run faster, gain Tim C's Body Comp, hold onto and slightly gain on the bike...
and of course share the pain & accomplishment with team members!
2018 Races - IMLP - American Zofingen Duathlon (as a training day) Mallorca Camp, Al Camp
  • In for the JOS.

    Goal for 2018:
    > Get hubs successfully to IMLP starting line.
    >Improve body Comp. Always a plan.
    >Run faster for longer
    > Launch a successful HIM training plan that will culminate in me CRUSHING my new AG. Sorry. I'm a little blood thirsty.
    > NOT GET HURT<
    > Be able to ride my new TT bike without killing my shoulders.

2018- Best in the West HIM
Bend Camp!!!!!!!! Let the shenanigans begin.

  • In for JOS, looking to make this my 2nd truly succesful OS. The last time I actually completed a proper OS gave me HUGE gains, but I know to limit my goals a bit, since It'll be a hacked heavy run focus for me to prep for my first race of the year - Austin Rattler Run 66k. Turning 40 this year, so I figured I'd do a stupid Withrow trick and do 40 mile run for 40th birthday. Following that up with Quassy Half and IMMD. Going to be a big year for me, and have to do the work now to lay the foundation.
  • I am IN for this outseason.  My main goal is to avoid 800 people passing me after getting off the bike at my next race.  Doing some half marathons this winter, then Chatt70.3 and IMMoo.  Look forward to suffering with you all.
  • In for JOS. Goals are to work on body comp and get faster on bike. Also want to learn how to read bike data files.
2018 races include Nashville R&R half marathon, Quassy 70.3, IMLP, and MCM marathon
  • Looks like JanOS is going to be super active and fun!!  Count me in!
  • I volunteered to be the JanOS Run Captain ... can't wait to get started!!
  • Insies for JOS.  This is an age up year for me, so looking for a solid build to Al's bad ass camp, IMMT 70.3, Steelhead 70.3 and IMKY.  I'm in run jail at the moment.  Me no likey being on a run diet.  BUT...I am getting some stuff done around the house and getting in the weight room.  Hope to be running sooner rather than later!
  • Putting the bike workouts into trainer road and nearly had an aneurysm when i saw the all the long bikes (starting from week1) are 2.5 hours :o

    @Steveboer- Spoiler alert! Geez ;)
Bring it on. It's not not like you guys won't be right there with me!!!!
Having a problem getting the 2018 OS bike to load up on TR. My widget geek is currently working on the problem. HE's kinda expensive. I can only find 1 2018 OS L1 plan. Does anyone have more than that?
  • 2018 workouts aren't all loaded up yet (I'm creating them along with @scott Imlay
  • edited October 29, 2017 2:30AM
OOHHHH! So you really are giving out a spoiler!
Thank you for your answer I was starting to panic!
Thank you so much for putting them in. That's a HUGE amount of work.
  • I have them all created in Zwift. I handed them off to CoachP for final approval and distribution as he sees fit.
  • Count me in as well for JOS!  My tentative schedule is: Haines City 70.3, Chatt 70.3?, US Nationals, IM Maryland in addition to some local races. Looking forward to being a part of this great group!
  • In for JOS, assuming I survive IMCoz in 4 weeks...

    4th OS for me.  Goals:
    • Update signature to reflect current reality
    • Body comp - get back down to "real" racing weight (about 15 lbs of fat)
    • Run - have my long run zones reflect my predicted zones (IOW, reducing fading); I hear you about getting passed, Jeff Horn
    • Bike - solidify recent Zwift race results with tested/validated FTP > 240
    • Do all of this while completing a major work project (completion date 7 April)

  • Carol and I are in! We're both doing Eagleman 70.3, Steelhead 70.3 and I'm in for IM Maryland!
  • Count me in as well for JOS!  My tentative schedule is: Haines City 70.3, Chatt 70.3?, US Nationals, IM Maryland in addition to some local races. Looking forward to being a part of this great group!
@Sabra Gonzalez - check in for the IMMD group over at https://endurancenation.vanillacommunities.com/discussion/23975/2018-iroman-maryland-roll-call-whos-in-for-2018#latest
  • Ya, I will be here.

    ~ Starkles
  • I'm IN for JOS! This will be my first OS and I'm looking forward to it.

My goals are to improve bike power and run durability (and speed) to lay the foundation for my best season yet.

I'm planning to return to Chatt 70.3 and would also like to do Augusta 70.3 with a lot of short course races in between. I have my eye on a few Olympic distance events, which would be a first also.

Jason, thanks for the work on the Zwift files! That will save me a Trainer Road subscription. I have them loaded up and ready to go!
  • @Todd Middlebrooks  - My Pleasure!  If you notice anything strange about the Zwift workouts, let me know.  I'm happy to make any adjustments needed.
  • Both myself and my hubby and new ENer Michael Kryvicky are in for the JOS!

    #1 goal: Improve Body Comp.
#2 goal: run durability, consistency, and pace.  NO more being afraid - I am going to be the squirrel.

    My 2018 races:

May - IM70.3 GUlf Coast (Kryvicky Family event! me, hubby, SIL, her BF, and their friend are all racing!) Long training day

July - IM70.3 Ohio (relay with hubby biking, me swim/running) Long training day

August - MiTi 140.6 (relay with Hubby biking, me swim/running) - really long training day

November - IMFL (A RACE) Family race part 2 - Me, my SIL, her BF and their friend are all racing.

  • @Scott Dinhofer & @Paul Curtin thanks for bringing the mojo for the JOS.

I'll be with this group but may have some modifications in March.  I just found out that I'll have some more free time, well a lot of free time to train so will looking to hack the bike.

Goals will come after closer or after Christmas.  Right now I'm in Dinhofer's weight loss challenge, swimming 3X week and running 3X with one bike session.

Right now my one and only race is Calgary 70.3 July 29th with a sub 6 goal.

  • Only 6 weeks until JOS begins. Jump on the bikes now folks, if you go into the OS cold, it'll be a brutal awakening. I've not done much biking since my last race in September other than some easy pedal stuff. Took a swing at the wk 1 level 1 workout and forgot what FTP feels like.

For those of you that haven't looked at the plans:  note that week 1 starts with normal workouts, not testing protocol as in years past. I'd highly suggest to plan on testing before starting. My SWAG for my ftp is likely waaaayyyyyyy high, so I'll build for the next 4 weeks before testing.
  • I raced Zwift for the first time last night since IMFL and legs were not happy with me.  I will need more bike in next few weeks.  What is SWAG for ftp Steve Boer?  Nice job on NYC btw.
  • some wild assed guess ;)
i'd been sticking to my 219 number for a while, but that's clearly going to take a hit. I'll probably end up at around the 200 mark as a starting point.
  • Good idea on starting bike intensity @Steve boer.  Hopefully we're all building run durability as well
  • edited November 19, 2017 2:37AM
New EN'r here. I'll be in JOS working towards IMC which will be my first Iron.
    Currently doing run durability plan.

Heading into JOS with some excellent fitness due to a run-challenged short course season in 2017 that ended in late July. I've been consistent with 2-3 low volume/intensity swims, run durability (slow and steady at 20mi/wk), and a couple of intense and/or longer bike rides each week since early September. Looking at a late spring A-race on my home course... Buffalo Springs Lake 70.3, and an age-up to M60-64 for USA Triathlon Ultradistance Championship in late September. (Goal: AG Podium and my wife wants a ticket to Spain in 2019).
  • ...age-up to M60-64 for USA Triathlon Ultradistance Championship in late September. (Goal: AG Podium and my wife wants a ticket to Spain in 2019).
    From USAT web site:

"The 2018 USA Triathlon Ultra-Distance National Championships in Oklahoma City, OK, will qualify athletes for the 2019 ITU Long-Distance Triathlon World Championship. At the Ultra-Distance National Championship, the first place athlete in each aged-up age group will automatically qualify. The second place athlete in each aged-up age group will qualify only if their finishing time is within 30% of the first place athlete's finishing time.

Remaining slots for the 2019 ITU Long-Distance Triathlon World Championship can be earned in the Long Course Triathlon National Championship at the 2018 USA Triathlon Multisport National Championships Festival in Miami, Florida."

So you have a much greater chance (16 slots instead of 2) of getting on the Team USA for Spain 2019 if you try to qualify in Miami, Nov 11. That;s what I'm doing. It's only 70.3, instead of the 140.6 "Ultra" distance.

  • @Al Truscott: The field in OKC will be very (not even relatively) weak. I think top 2 there would be similar odds to top 16 in Miami! People just don't show up at a non-IM 140.6 event in Oklahoma. I have raced there numerous times (including 2016 ITU LD Worlds), and it is close to home with a favorable course. You are certainly correct that, given my back issues, I am better off avoiding the 5hr bike rides, and sticking to 70.3. I am struggling with my ego. My wife won't mind Miami in November. I really wanted to go to Luscirne in 2019, but my daughter is getting married (in Estes Park) on August 11. At least Trail Ridge Road will be conquered ;-)
