@Jeff, just do the swim workouts in the plan. Fine to dial down the distances so that you're swimming most of your laps with good form. I'm currently only doing 100s and 50s because I don't feel I have the strength and endurance yet to maintain the form I want to do anything much longer.
April TT #1 (plan to do another in 2wks) -- 15:15 for 1000m. Down 48 secs from a 16:07 two weeks ago. I've done...probably about 5 swims, none longer than about 1500m total, nothing but 100 and 50m repeats.
Actually felt like I had a 2nd gear this time vs 1st gear only in my initial TT. Just gotta build gears 3 thru 5 into the gear box. And I was trying to do the math on a sub 50' IM swim as maybe a goal for this summer...
Swam today in a pool for the first time since before Placid last year. Felt better than i thought I would. Another session or two and i'll knock out a TT for the challenge. I was knocking out 50‘s in 40s, without going all out, which seemed pretty respectable after a 8 month sabbatical.
I am pretty late to this party, but finally got in the pool today. First swim since the week after the Chicago Triathlon (August 2010). I contemplated doing a few sessions before going for the TT but what the heck. Last year best 1000 yds was 16:00 (1:36/100yd)...I have never been a great swimmer... Tonight was just brutally slow, 17:23 (1:44/100yd). Felt good and comfortable in the water, just no strength...could barely lift myself out of the pool at the end. Overall session was 32:18 for 1840 yds -- and best of all the lifeguard was not called into action!!!!! Cheers, Matt
Did it today, haven't swam one stroke since Ironman Louisville August 2010. 16:40 My ability to feel smooth or have any sort of form went downhill about 300 yards in. I ended up doing about 1800 today. I can't remember doing too many swim TTs but I would guess I can comfortably knock out a 14:30 once I get some swim fitness back.
OK - finally had to do the 1000yd TT (week 4 of HIM plan). 4-5 weeks ago I couldn't go more than 500 - that is 8:45.
16:39 today (8:15 / 8:24). Might have had a bit more left in me but not much. It was "comfortably hard" as threshold work should be. Sub 16 would be sweet before race day.

14:27 in March "off the couch."
14:01 yesterday and I've been swimming 2X a week about 3000 per session.
13:57 was my best from last year.
18:00 mid Jan. After long break.
16:00 mid March!
6 weeks til IMSTG. Can't wait to see what I do on race day.
Sorry for the resurrection. Didn't check the dates. Just followed a link from the wiki.
No worries, it will come back quickly!
