  • Barbara -- I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Take care and know you are both in my thoughts.

    Annabelle! So cute!

Marianne - You are so right about goals. After reviewing all the power webinars, I want to do everything I can to get my bike split under 6:20 and learn how to ride with my power numbers as smooth as a baby's bottom so I don't expend any extra energy bouncing. I also love thinking about seeing you all on the course all day -- especially on that four-loop run course. That's my favorite part. No one is going to have to run alone.

Michele -- Definitely looking forward to your visiting Chicago.

Theme songs for IMOO? Love the thought of Rich mambo-ing in his pink Speedo.

    In the cow theme --

"Save A Horse (Ride a Cowboy)"  (or a tri bike. This song inspired me to rename the road bike Cowboy Bob last year after I added clip on aero bars to it.)

Old school - "Redneck Girl" - Bellamy Brothers?

  • that is truea bout Guatemala!!! hadn't though of it that way, good on the four loops!! hadn't quite realized that.. used to 2 loops of a course!! nice. in from riding outside, yep Nemo I did it!! will post stuff later...oh my gosh I thought of all of y'all... hopefully the vid will turn out but I got icy snow stuck in my cleats so used the tire lever to dig it out!!
  • Michele - thanks - that would be great! Any info and advice you can provide would be appreciated. An I have no desire to undergo something like this without them having a navigation system! I have thought many times that maybe it is the biking and not the running, but I haven't started back from being pain free w/ just one or the other so it is hard to say. I do know it takes me a lot longer to recover from running than biking and just forget about running a road for any great length of time anymore. I feel like I've been run over by a truck for two days afterward. I still haven't made up my mind if I am going to do it or not though. Thinking...... and Nemo you are exactly right - sometimes those things can be small miracles and sometimes not so much. I just wish there was a way to know BEFORE if I am line for a small miracle !!!

Here are some of the pics I promised earlier today - First - a very bad picture of Miss Esther and our middle aged dog - Cookie. As you can see though Esther has GROWN and loves a good roll in the snow.

And here are a few of the farm - it really does look pretty in the snow, but man has it been COLD! I know that is true because it is all the way up to 28 today and feels warm to me - that is saying something! I took these with the sun coming up the other day and just thought it was pretty

and yes I really like goals Marianne - I have really been trying and focusing on the weight too and it's coming off slowly but surely but the BF % is staying high. I just hate that I carry so much of it on the backs of my arms and around my pecs. It's not a good look in a sports bra or tri-top. Guess I should have stuck with the push up challenge

  • The freakin EN PM hates me!!!! I have the worst luck with it - can't get it to populate a name at all. Michele - my email is robinpcline733@hotmail.com. Would love to see that article - Muchas Gracias Chica!
  • It's not you Robin. I just tried to PM Dave Corso and can't get anywhere. There is a definite problem with the system.
  • Robin- those pics really are beautiful! Black doggies in white snow- so precious!
  • Robin--that's your farm?! Gorgeous. I think my whole back yard would fit in the chain link doggie kennel area!

m--we all got game underneath it all, don't we? LOVE IT! That's what makes this place so great. I'll join you in the sub-13 goal, but what will be will be. I'll give it all my best shot. I'm putting the weight thing out there with ya--for maybe 10 years, I never weighed more than 123. During the weight thing last year, I got so obsessed with food, I went up to 127. I'm still stuck there a year later, even though I went back down to 123 this summer. I'd like to get back to 122-ish for race day, but it's real hard to shed these lbs. Looking forward to hearing all about your trip too.

Barb-truly sorry about your friend. I lost one in December, and it's rattling to the core.

Michele--LOVED your post in the testing thread. That was right on. Rest up and recover, GF. This is some tough stuff.

I am offically transitioned OUT of the OS. I am d-o-n-e. I think I've gotten all I can out of it, and going backwards means it's time to let the work sink in. Phew. I feel MUCH better and relieved not to be beholden to a schedule for a couple of weeks. So glad it's Friday!

  • Robin- Gorgeous pictures all around!! Your farm is lovely and the dogs, of course, are yummy. Photography another hidden talent besides cooking?

We have had another, "it's not going to snow", snowfall. About an inch so far, but enough for slushy roads. In the meantime, I am doing a test run on my Valentines dessert. Making Chocolate Molten Cakes with Cherries. The test run is because I am doing them in heart shaped pans rather than ramekins.

How about "Back in the Saddle" for an EN Cowgirls workout song?? Can someone PLEASE tell me how to hotlink a video to here!!???

Off to take stuff out of the oven.

    Here is todays installment:

  • G--She's so much bigger already! I'll be sure to show Casey. image

  • Love the farm pics Robin. There is a serenity in those pics....always serene right? image No really, wonderful setting that you have there.

Gina - You're KILLING me with the chocolate molten cakes! Sounds so darned good. And you're going to have double the yumminess because you're test driving the whole gig before you do the reall thing...so impressive. Anabelle is really growing already. My fave pic of her from this week is her 2 month old portrait. So flippin' cute!

I'm really tired today, and I haven't gotten much work done. Puttered around at the gym talking to people after my swim, went to ART, came home and chatted on the phone with my sister, and then tried to work. What joke! Oh and just now Brian says, "are we taking Monday off?" He brought up the possibility of taking monday off a few nights ago when he came to bed after I'd already been sleeping. I'm sure I said something about checking my calendar and then deciding. I guess he HEARD "Ok let's do it." We have now arrived at Miscommunication Station people! We'll figure it out.

Some how I lost my fave pair of running gloves yesterday...and it wasn't even a run day. HMMMMM! Curious.

  • Measurable snowfall in 49 of 50 states. WRONG!!

The molten cakes are a go, I took them to my neighbors and they ate them on the spot.

Here is the Valentine's Day Menu:

Butternut Squash Soup with Cider Cream & Roasted Red Pepper Puree'

Pan Seared Diver Scallops with Porcini Vinaigrette, served on bed of Arugula

    Grilled Polenta Cakes

    Molten Chocolate Cakes with Cherries

    Bailly-Lapierra Rose Cremant

G--that sounds amazing. How the two of you aren't 200 lbs. is beyond me. image

  • L- You forgot who my partner is. You know, the girl we TRY to put weight on.

Seriously, I cook like this maybe 6 times a year.

It is Valentine's Day , you know ?

  • I think I gained 3 lbs just reading the menu!
  • Linda- Thank you. Sometimes I can't just jump in, I need a day to organize my thoughts. Which is why I never e-mailed you. I could not figure out the intangibles that make the women's vibe so awesome. It just is! You are wise to bow out of OS realizing that you are where you are going to be and rest is better than continuing to plow into a brick wall. The unstructured workouts will be rejuvenating and you will be ready to hit the training when the time comes. We have more than 4 months until Patriot HIM and 7 months until IMMoo. It is NOT worth it to kill yourself right now. Except for the Power Clinic, I have been much less structured and regimented this OS. Skipping BRick runs, etc. This is a looong season until IMMoo. I want to savor the warmth and support of the Cowgirl contingency and EN women. I don't want to hate training. To that end I am taking a lesson from you. Recognize it earlier. Pay attention and listen to your body now, before it's too late.

Gina- That is such a yummy menu, very romantic. In the past I used to plan like that and got a luke warm response. Now I have a wonderful partner and he does stuff like that for me, and I eat it up! He is awesome! Puppy pics are adorable!

Robin- Sunrise- my favorite. Cute doggies! A perfect morning. Heal up and hang in there.

Nemo- I finally watched your wind video! 58 degrees in your office- YUCK! That water is awful high!

Good luck with the weekend challenge! I am going to do my workouts, but only the MS. The Power Clinic fatigue really caught up with me, I need to rest.

So I want to put this out there since a few folks have mentioned that 13 hour goal at IMMoo.... I would like to get there, but more so, I want to have fun. I know me. If I push myself in training because of a time goal, I will hate the process. I really want to enjoy what we are doing this year. To that end, I will not be looking at a time goal. I know I swim well. I know my bike will be better since this race will be PM regulated. But I have always been and continue to be a slow runner. If I have any time goal at all, it is to try and "run" the marathon in under 5:12:XX (my only stand alone marathon time and I was not prepared). And that will be a stretch for me. I wish each of you the best of luck at reaching your goal. Make sure you enjoy the journey too.
  • hey girls!!! michelle, yes on having fun!! you know it! as most of you know, I am honored to have some great training partners and I get to laugh every time I see them!!! meeting Heather and David to ride at 7 and I think it is below 30 out there!!! maybe 28 or 26, not going to look!!! anyways just the sheer craziness of riding so our family schedules work today.. and I will be laughing as soon as I exit my car!!
nice menu Gina!! nope I don't know how to link like Linda cleverl does!! and yes she has grown. nice KY pics too Robin.

  • Thanks for all the nice compliments on the pics. The farm is owned by some very nice people that live in PA. DH has been managing it for 25 years now. Both of his daughters grew up here and I moved here 11 years ago this month! It is a really lovely farm and has been in the owners family for about 100 years now. It is really nice to have all those horse paddocks because it gives me a nice soft surface to do my brick runs on - running between the fences . I have some summertime pics somewhere and will share when I find them . It is funny to try to explain to our boys that we don't "own" two homes since we "have" to live on the farm from September-May. Right now DH is foaling mares left and right - 3 were born the other night alone! He gets a little cranky this time of year . But my Dad is a retired OB/GYN so it wasn't a difficult adjustment for me to make at all.

Gina - that menu sounds luscious!! I used to cook like that at least once a week before the kids were born, but now it is just a few times a year. Mostly time and lack of energy keeping me from it these days. We still pull out all the stops at Christmas and do a big Easter.

We are having friends over tomorrow night (if the snow doesn't interupt us that is! - jeez what is up with this snow EVERYWHERE!) 2 other couples that also have each have 2 little boys. I am having a taco bar for the kids and then making homemade smoked trout dip for starters, my favorite beef bourguignon, barley and pine nut casserole, mixed green salad w/ honey crisp apples and roasted almonds for the main course, and CHOCOLATE SOUFFLE for dessert! I am heading off shortly to go to a hot yoga class and make the Liquor Store run for wine to match the meal, the Bluegrass Baking Co. for the fresh Baguette we'll need to sop up all that yummy sauce from the beef and have lunch with a very dear friend of mine. Picking up the boys from friend where they spent the night last night and on to the movies to take in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and then home to start the BB for tomorrow. So obviously no bike ride for me today!

Again - thank you all for sharing your wisdom about what is going on w/ you and training. Michele, Linda and Olivia it sounds like you all really know how to manage yourselves and you will be so much better for it! Olivia - miscommunication station - that is cute - we find ourselves there more than I would like, especially when he is so exhausted at this time of year.

M - you are seriously tough!!! I saw your pics over in the Jan OS - man I just cannot bring myself to ride outside in that kind of weather. I bow down before all you chicas that can handle the cold!

I am hoping to get a bike ride (on the trainer ) in tomorrow and will try to get one of the kids to video for some Prez Challenge Day points. Better go get dressed and head to Lex now - slept til 7:30!!! with the kids out of the house and someone to cover for me at work - selfishly left Esther at the kennel last night so I didn't have to get up at 5:30.

  • Robin - I emailed you the article, hope it's helpful.

FYI, The only way I've found to PM someone is to click the envelope icon above their profile picture in a forum post.
  •  Morning Ladies!

Michele- you will have tons and tons of company on that run- trust me!  I signed up for IMoo with a goal of sub 13hrs, but with this calf injury I've seriously adjusted that goal to just getting to the start line healthy so I can experience and enjoy the race with all of you- whatever that means on the clock!

Robin- chocolate soufflette? Wow that's ambitious!

Oh- and ladies, have you seen Carrie (RedHairTxGirl)'s blog site!  I can't believe she never told us about it- lots of great 'suburban mom' tips.  Looks like she and her hubby have promoted the site really well too- smart gal!  Check it out: http://www.hackingthesuburbs.com/

For all of you who need to bow out of the Pres Day Challenge- I totally understand!!!!  We all need to do what is right for ourselves.  For me, I'm just starting the OS, coming off the injury and finally able to ride my bike, so I'm still all piss & vinegar excited right now!  Anyway- in case you don't see the Tweets, I'm gonna post my video from this morning's workout (earning me extra points ) 'cause I was thinking of you all as I started my day!

  • Howdy from haiti
Quick note to say i am safe. They asked me to stay a 2nd week and i agreed. having trouble posting, and spotty internet. This is 3rd or4th attempt.Hoping to be back next weekend. Got the day off today since it is transition day. staying busy. Miss my modern anesthesia equipment, but learning tons. The destruction is unbeliveable,as are the conditions for the Haitians. Trying to take pix, but have to keep doors locked and windows up at all times when driving from camp to hopsital, so pixthough window.

about 2 hrs after i agreed to stay, got pretty sick. there were about 4 or 5 of us that got sick this week, we were dropping like flys. I had about 3 or 4 liters of iV fluids. better now, appetite sucks though. they think maybe salmonella? on 2 different antibiotics now

Will do a report when I get back
Love and miss you guys, ahve a lot to catch p on when I get back
    T
  • Michele C--100% believe me when I tell you that my time goal is a "nice to have." It's based totally on how I felt at IMFL. If I get in the same shape, have the same kind of race, and my quads hold up--then I will have a very good day. No doubt about it. I knew what I was capable on that day in FL, and just got a bit derailed by the whole quad issue. My main goal is to have that "very good day" in WI, and what the clock says, it says. But FL was such a powerful experience, and I knew how much I had in there. It was very cool, and I hope I can give WI as good a go. Then the rest will take care of itself. I just want to be there with you all more than anything else.

Tracy--stay safe and get home healthy! Riding with the windows up? Don't like the sound of that! Your first-hand report is greatly anticipated.

Y'all know how I have my one year "no-clothes-buying" resolution. Well, I'm in month 7! The only thing I have bought are clothes (hat, mittens, socks, boots) to keep me from freezing to death walking the dog. The one thing I really felt I needed was a full-length down coat--my ski coat just doesn't cover the butt and thighs, and it's not as warm as it could be. Well, today--score! I got a nice, long Calvin Klein down coat for $65 at Lord and Taylor!!!! It was $215 full list, then it was marked down three times, and today was an extra 40% off of the lowest sale price. I really needed it, and it's so cozy. It's often freeeeeeeeezing here in the early morning, and I'm glad I broke down and got it. I think it belonged in the "need" rather than "want" category. 5 more months to go!

Took today off, and went on an extra long hike in the woods with Keith and Cali. Met up with some friends and had a lovely morning. Then we tackled errands to keep the rest of the long weekend free. It was nice to just do--whatever! Hope you're all having a great weekend!

  • Thanks Tracy for posting a hey, we have all been wondering about you. glad you are safe!
Linda, way to go on the no clothes thing! yes coats count as need!! esp with dog!
college son unexpectedly home!! nice Valentine's gift for me~~ son just score his first bball goal so another nice "Mom" moment and husband cleaned the kitchen this morning! and a teenage son cleaned his room! what is going on??!!! ha. anyways just a nice pleasant day and looking forward to chillin on the couch.... m
  • Hi ladies!

Tracy - Haiti, I'm sure, is crazy, wonderful, scary and too big to put into words. I think it is amazing you are there. Take care.

Gina - That menu sounds amazing.

I tweeted the video, but here's today's President's Bike Challenge video -- with sparkly headband.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHPDsoW3Pe0

Today, I got my kitchen back online. Tomorrow there will be cooking. I keep thinking about a lovely tagliatelle with a little bit of cream, maybe mushrooms, but I can't remember where I've had it, or whose recipe it might be. Perhaps a big pot of white bean and escarole soup and Jamie Oliver's beans, because they are so lovely to have in the freezer, to put on fish, toast, whatever.

Tomorrow, I do get to practice my favorite city girl sport: brunch. I'm sorely out of practice. Tomorrow, I'm going to a place you would all like. There's a little place in Edgewater, called Tweet. I've been eating there since it opened, when the neighborhood was mostly full of crazy people and all the gay boys who had fled to Edgewater to get away from all the Trixies and strollers that were invading Boystown. It is run by this fabulous southern lady, named Michelle Fire. The food is delicious and unpretentious. The mimosas and served with splits of champagne. And it is in a converted art deco flower shop, with a great art collection.

    Happy weekend!

"Carbon is a girl's best friend" - I LOVE IT!

  •

This made me laugh!!! Hope you all are having a great Valentine's Day. I had posted something over in 3.0 awhile back and wanted to share again. You all are a wonderful group and I wanted to post over here for  everyone.

May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where

you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are

born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have

received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.

It is there for each and every one of us.

Snowing again. Gotta go run. Have a great morning!

  • Chicas! Happy Valentine's Day to all my lovelies! I'm getting ready to get on the ol' bike again today. First will be some mental preparation, nutrition bottle arrangement etc. I did want to mention that I thought of all of you Moo girls yesterday during my ride while listening to ABBA. When "Waterloo" came on I started to substitute in I-M-Moo...there is a lot in those lyrics that seem to apply to Ironman....here's a sampling. The bold places are where I subbed words. If I knew how to do a video I'd share some dance moves and maybe wear my platforms...but ALAS I am not that clever.

Here's the real song...to get you in the mood...the video is horrible on this, and I really think they could have shown a little more pizzazz in this performance. I mean really....www.youtube.com/watch

My my, at waterloo napoleon did surrender

Oh yeah, and I have met my destiny in quite a similar way

The history book on the shelf

    Is always repeating itself

    I-M-Moo - I won't be defeated, I'll win the war

    I-M-Moo
    - promise to love you for ever more

    I-M-Moo - couldn?t escape if I wanted to

I-M-Moo - knowing my fate is to be with you

I-M-Moo - finally facing my waterloo

My my, you'll try to hold me back but I am stronger

Oh yeah, and now it seems my only chance is putting up the fight

And how could I ever refuse

I feel like I win when I lose

    I-M-Moo - I won't be defeated, I'll win the war

I-M-Moo - promise to love you for ever more

    I-M-Moo - couldn?t escape if I wanted to

I-M-Moo - knowing my fate is to be with you

And how could I ever refuse

I feel like I will never lose

  • Hi Chicas! Happy Valentine's Day to all of you! So glad you are safe Tracy! And I will just say that everyone's posts are great! I LOVE ABBA and how you changed the words too, Olivia! Gina, kuddos to you for the wonderful dinner you have planned! My S.O. and I are going out to dinner! She's a good cook, me not so much..but we decided to let someone wait on us! Wish I could figure out how to post pics on here! I saved some to a website per coaches' instructions, but can't remember what one! LOL! Talk about a senior moment! Thank you too, for your comments of sympathy on my friend's passing. They are much appreciated.
Good luck in your Pres. Challenge all! XXXOOO Barb
  • Olivia- GREAT song idea!! I am big ABBA fan anyway

Barbara- Hope you two  have a great time ;dinner.

I ran 8.5 this morning and felt great. First time ever in falling snow and it was lovely. We are expecting 2-4 inches overnight, not so lovely. Southern cities are just not set up to handle it.

On the puppy front, Belle slept for 6 hours straight last night!! Made her Mommys HAPPY.

  • Wow, ladies, so much going on here!  Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

Gina, your menu sounds delicious, and so thoughtful for Annabelle to start sleeping more though the night.

Tracy, be safe in Haiti.  I can't wait to hear your full report when you get back.

Olivia, I like the song, but we're still waiting to see the dance moves in the platforms!

    Beth and Nemo, great videos!

Yesterday T and I accompanied my sister to get her fitted for her first tri bike!  She was semi-fitted 2 weeks ago on the 2009 version of the Felt S32, but she ordered the 2010 version and it is HOT!  Black and white with red accents and super-fast looking.  I'll post a pic whenever I see her next - I forgot my camera yesterday.  Then, we all ventured out to an Asian supermarket to gawk at the weird and wonderful foods and purchase some Kabocha pumpkin and purple sweet potatoes.  To top it off we spend the evening at The Alamo Drafthouse, where you can see a first-run movie and have food (and wine)!  We saw Valentine's Day - it was cute, but had too many stars and storylines to make a really complete movie.

For V-day today we're keeping it quiet - we have completed our respective workouts and are now camped out on the couch watching the Olympics and reading, surfing online, etc.  For dinner we're doing Steakhouse at home - 2 NY strip steaks, homemade (and low-fat) twice baked potatoes and creamed spinach, washed down with a great bottle of red wine and finished with chocolate gelato.

    Have a great day, ladies!

  • Hi All,

Back from another swim meet--these are the championship meets at the end of the HS season. Taylor had a really bad day in the water. He got a little cocky this year after getting into college, and just decided he could sandbag then it would all be there when he wanted it to be. Nah-uh. Live and learn I say. This was a tough lesson for him today--no matter how talented you are, you have to train to get where you want to be, right ladies? image It's all so very exciting and fun no matter what!

I am having a great time on the weekends laying it down on the Central Park TT course that I'll ride with the team at the Boston expo next month. It takes me ~22-23 minutes, and today I went up 9 watts from last week,a nd shaved 1' off. That meant the ride was just at ~FT, so it looks like I'm getting back after falling off the VO2max cliff. Maybe I can increase that over the next few weeks. I did 1x10 @ 85%, then the course, and am calling it a day after that. It's enough as I climb out of the hole.

Happy V-day to all my favorite ladies I love!

PS--I go with the flow on most things, but I gotta put it out there--I DESPISE, HATE, ABHOR, PUKE AT ABBA!!!! I don't know what it is, but when they come on the radio, I cannot click the button fast enough. If I have to go around with Waterloo in my brain, I will take it out on someone. image
