  • OK,
I am the first one to man up and say I totally bagged on Day one of the challenge.
I did the Bike this AM but never found the time to squeeze in the ruin today.
Put me down for a goose egg today.
Tomorrow is a sure thing tho...
  • I'm going to get an extra point this morning!

  • Go Jamie!

Surprise christmas gift... the challenge starts today instead of yesterday!
I didn't bag on the first day after all.
    Woo Hoo!

PS reading is sometimes hard for me.
  • So did 9 miles early with a run TT in there at 30 degrees so:  9+3 for above threshold + 1 over an hour + 1 for 30 degrees = 14?

I'm going with 14 .......Happy Holidays.......I already need a nap!

  • Okay, I'll bite. Midnight Mass was hard to wake up from this morning but I'll be out there. Bonus point cause baby, it's cold outside.

  • So does a "Feels Like 31deg" from Weather.com count as lass than 32?  image
  • Weak Joe, weak. Come to Chicago if you want those bonus points!
  • Well that really hurtimage
    13.1 miles as planned.
    Time: 1:44
Over tempo by 1 sec-Two miles
    Total points 13+1+2=16
At the firehouse so all on the mill.
  • Easy start to the challenge. 5 miles right between Z1 and Z2, weather.com has me at 29 degrees so +1. 6 big points image
  • No thank you. I have been watching the weather channel the past few days and you all can keep those frigid temperatures. image

    7.5 miles, 1:02:17, all between Z1 and Z2 ---> 8.5 pts
  • 7 miles in 1:03:11

1.5 @10k pace or greater actually it was 5k pace

1 point for over one hour

    7+1.5+1=9.5

  • Well back in the day 2011 on the first day of the run challenge this was easy sub 0 weather ! Lets see what today 2013 brings !

  • So here we are first day of the run challenge 2013 differ kind of run gear today. In all was an awesome morning running with 7 other peeps on our frozen canal system ! In all 8 mi in just over an hour covered, one at tempo was not going to do this(shoes untied and had to catch up)! Was a balmy -24 C (-12 F) Felt like -27 C (-17 F). Will throw in more pics from previous run challenge years maybe put a smile on your face !

PS The EN jacket was able to withstand the bitter cold, so as a side it stood its ground ! Just a thought !

  • Ottawa Team Update. Steady 7 mile run just over one hour, kicked in a few above threshold. Bloody cold in New Jersey. But that gives me a point, so I will take it.

  • Just did 10 miles in the delightful Chicago weather. None over threshold- legs were dead tired and wanted to take advantage of the day off to get some more miles in. Some slick spots out there- almost tumbled a few times. Any bonus points for runs that turn into ice skates?
  • Wasn't game for running in 12 degree weather with ice on everything so reverted to the deadmill for 11 miles in 1:32 with 2 at TP

    11+2+1=14
  • ok, given what I ate today, and the numbers y'all are putting up... I guess that I will have to switch to two-a-days in order to stay in this thing.  No cold points for running in Florida I guess.

  • A step ahead of you Mr. Roy!

Here is my recovery run for the day and another 7.5 points!!!!

  • I knew this group was hard core, but wow!!!! Some of you put up some incredible numbers today.

7.5 mi for me and sub 30 so add a point and a point for being out there over an hour. An ok deliverable for day 1.

Tomorrow, the birthday challenge so, not likely to have a lot of miles...Merry Christmas EN haus!

  • I think we should get a point for running in 70+ degree weather image I wasn't used to the heat! 10.2 points for me! 7.2 miles with 3 at threshold.
  • 5.45 miles , not quite an hour elapsed, 1 mile at z4 pace or above
I am calling that 6 points. Let me know if I botched the math

  • This morning was 2 miles, 1 above TP and it was 27 degrees so 1 pt for that, total of 4 pts. This afternoon was 1:03 for 7.25 miles, 2 miles above TP, total 10.25. Total for today 14.25 pts
  • 5.8 miles, 27 degrees in NJ, 50 min, 1 mile at TP = 7.8 points.

  • Single with no kids.... yea, I can do two runs a day to make up for these super fast runners on the team... The real question is, when will the laundry fairy come visit for two runs a day plus normal workouts?!?!?!???

Hey Brenda, I joined up with your team to bolster its ranks. Simon is down my way for a visit and he ain't kidding about the weather. I went out and did a tour of the Christmas lights. 6.32 miles in just over an hour at 25F. Good for 8.3 points. I had 700 ft of climbing (did the hills that Simon opted NOT to do...) and all that felt like Z4 but wasn't at the right pace so no points unless we get to claim half a point for each 200ft of climbing. How 'bout it, Brenda?
  • Hey guys, I think I have misunderstood the math - do we get part points for the miles? I was doing whole miles only (eg run 9.5 counts as 9 miles) - but I see that there are plenty x.x on the spreadsheet. So it's hours that have to be whole hours, but quarter and half miles count?

Not that it's going to make that much difference, but when I am out there distracting myself by doing the mental math of miles times 1.6 to get km and make myself go "just that bit further" it will make the math more fun (yeah, bit of a geek!)

  • Slow but steady. Another 4 miles in 29 degree temps after the bike workout this morning. Movie time with the family!
  • Today felt really good. This was my 4th day preparing for the Dopey so today was 18 miles. Ended up with 18.5 miles in 2hrs30min. Only 1 mile of TP and again it was done on the treadmill.

    Points today:
    18.5 for miles
    2 points for 2 hours
    1 point for over TP
    = 21.5

Simon and I had a great time this morning. Temps in the high 20's, beautiful scenery but most of all, Simon was wonderful company.

Hey Brenda, I didn't see YOUR name on the spreadsheet. What gives?
