I would be very interested in the details of the wheelbuilder EN sale. Very close to buying a new wheel in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for doing the leg work. Do you need an email or will things be posted.
-Man, I knew I was coming on board for a good training crew, no idea that I could get discounts on gear. Now if I only hadn't just threw down on a new PT/Wheel/Garmin combo... Oh well, at least I know where to come when I "need" (ok, want) new shiney stuff.
I see that WB has Garmin stuff. I'm thinking about selling my Joule and picking up this 910xt.
First, will WB Rich give you a discount on the Garmin gear? I've been told by some shops that Garmin doesn't allow that.
Second, is this a bad move on my part? I haven't been happy with discrepacies between Joule & WKO+ and I'd like something for pacing on run. Been using mile splits, ok on a track but tricky on a hilly course where mile markers are hidden or fallen, etc.
Rich, Purchased from WB (though EN) I´m currently riding HED + PT (racing with wheelcover) In preparation for my "A" race 2013 (Hawaii 70.3) I´m evaluating: 1) upgrading to Zipp 404 front-808 back. 2) upgrading from PT to a cranckset PM Question: are those "upgrades" worth it?
I personally don't like the 808 zipp, since there is extra risk in using a extending valve extension and your spare tube needs to be the same. Also you have a lower chance of anyone else having a spare on the course as well.
I went the powertap route and then after a while decided that a crank based system would be better. I bought a quarq and have never looked back. I love the ability to change wheels without impacting my power measurement.
I'm not sure whether an upgrade to front 404 and rear 808 is an upgrade. It depends on what you have right now. What's your current setup? If you can run a disc at the 70.3 (I'm not sure of this), then there's no reason to change the rear wheel. Why do you want to go from a PT to a crank-based system? I have a crank-based PM (SRM) and don't think one system is superior to the other. And my bias is that Zipp is a popular choice , but not superior to HED.
That's a tough call. Obviously you want to have your PM for your A race. I guess if you went with a crank based system, you could sell the PT wheel and buy a wheelcover for the 808. Then, you could use the 808 for Hawaii and cover it for most other races. Definitely would go with a deeper rim on the front than the Belgium; 404 or something similar is a good versatile choice.
As far as valve extenders, getting tubes (if clinchers) or tires with removable valve cores is a good idea. Then you can get extenders which can put the valve at the end (makes it easier to pump up) and just works better for me. Don't forget Teflon tape.

Richard, I'm currently on PT SL+, Hed Belgium, Bladed spokes, Wheelcover, Hed Belgium front.
I can run a disk in most 70.3 races but not in Hawaii, my A race in 2013.

Sounds like some serious shopping!
