Kevin Mepham Amherst, MA, Age 49 for 2011, going with Intermediate for my first official OS with EN (used the Beginner OS this summer since I was only training for my first season of sprint/oly races)
Please sign me up for November. I know my sign-up info put me starting in Oct., but I have to pile up some SAUs and nail the house back together. I calculated enough time for the whole 20 weeks OS, some transition, and 12 weeks race plan to Buffalo Springs in the beautiful balmy town of Lubbock.
Flavor: Not sure: New to Team EN but have been doing tris for 9 years with a PB of 5:25 for HIM (Harvest Moon-Colorado). I live at 8500 feet and don't have great access to a pool but my strength is swimming (former swimming coach)
Race Schedule:
6/2011: HyVee Tri in Iowa (Oly)
Possibly Kansas 1/2
9/11/2011: A+ Race: IMWI 2011
Not sure about others and think I should at least do a HIM: I am open to suggestions but would like to keep costs down.
State your end of OS fitness goals, maybe even your 2011 season goals
I have a dream of being competive for a Kona slot at IMWI. My swim is good (1:00), without Team EN I think I might have been able to do about a 5:20 on the bike, and the run has always been my wildcard: best marathon is 3:44 and HM is 1:41. The marathon was in Denver at altitude on a hilly course so I think that racing at low altitude (IMWI will be quite a bonus).
That said and I would be happy to just do my best whatever that looks like.
Fitness Goals:
I am still figuring out the whole testing protocol so that will be interesitng. I am also wondering about how I should train and then race since I train at high altitude and then race at low. So will pace be the best way? HR?
I am definitely not as organized as many of you in developing plans for 2011. I am considering a Memorial Day marathon and will do at least a couple of local sprint tris, and at least that many local Olympic tris and perhaps a local half IM or two. Since my races are all local I can wait a bit before solidifying my plans.
This will be my second OS I do hope to come out the other side stronger and with minimal or no weight gain and an FTP at least as high as last year at the end of the OS.
I will, once again, sign up for the intermediate plan.
Count me in for November - as a new member I'm looking forward to learning the EN way !
Madison, WI.
2011 Goals: - Understand what FTP & VDOT mean (I might even over achieve on this one and learn it in 2010!!) - Learn to train & race with power - End of OS weight : 160 (currently 168) - IMWI race weight : 150-155
2011 Races: - Madison Half Marathon (May) - Ironman Racine HIM (July) - Ironman Wisconsin
I entered the world of bicyle racing for the first time last year. I would like to continue this trend by adding a few additional one-day and stage races later in the year.
Steve Anderson - ENer all the way! Memphis, TN Advanced Plan
2011 Race Schedule - tentative, will firm everything up post-Austin on October 17th: - OS Nov-March (+1-2 weeks transition) - Memphis In May 70.3 (new distance added to this race!) - May - CdA 140.6 - June - Augusta 70.3 - Sept All of these are 'A' Races...I may sign up for a few local races post CdA for some extra fun, but, I have never done a 'B' race before.
Goals: Run: 2009-10 OS vDot: 49 2010 Mid-Season OS vDot = 54.5 (current) Post OS: vDot = 56.5 (GOAL) Bike: Current Goal: buy a power meter for myself for Christmas, hopefully EARLY, like Nov! Swim: TT Pace: 1:42 (Current); 1:35/100m (GOAL)
I chose the intermediate plan. will be preppin' for a Spring century,Brasstown Bald, and an oly tri, Chattanooga. Then a break before building back up for another century, Six Gaps, and then my A race in October or November. Will give Hawaii a shot thru the lottery, but have a backup plan with an independent, Silverman or Beach2Battleship.
Would like to get in some trail runs/races in over the winter for a nice change.
Weighing in at 167 for Augusta this weekend. Have randomly picked a goal weight of 160 by the time I get to climb Brasstown Bald in Spring.
Improve the run, want to consistently break 4hrs on those IM runs. Gotta long way to go on that one.
Spend more time with my wife & kids than I did when I was 'self coaching'.
I guess I forgot to indicate my goals for next season, not necesarily in this order:
-survive the American Zofingen middle distance F1 with enough energy to stand around, drink beer and properly heckle the long course folks for several hours
-have enough energy left after crushing dreams in LP that I will be able hang around the finish and wait for P to finish, no matter how long it takes
Seriously...want to run 17:45 and be at 325 by the end of the out season.
Checking in from Denver! I will also join you all for the November OS par-tay! Have done Advanced OS for the last two rounds, but will move forward with the Intermediate flavor this year.
To some extent I am still formulating my 2011 season. I am going in to 2011 focused on rebuilding my run. After an accident/surgery in 2009, my return to training and racing in late ‘09/early ’10 proved that my bike and swim fitness didn't suffer much, but my running TANKED! I struggled with making the runs in training, could barely run in races, and generally started to hate it.
So this year is all about “gittin my groove back” on the run to set me up for 2012 tri racing. I also have a cool “have fun with my fitness” running event (a loooong one) planned for August which I’m hoping won’t have the effect of slowing down any of my speed gains earlier in the season. Rather, I hope that it works out to be a good general run strength and endurance builder that will be a nice foundation for further tri racing. Speaking of tri racing, I haven't yet finalized the extent to which I want to--or the degree to which my body will let me--do any tri racing with the run focus. Would certainly be keen on any suggestions or advice from the team on that.
Anyhoo…Here are the deets as far as I know at this point....

Count me in! I am an EN newbie and looking forward to some structured training and some peeps to keep the mojo up!
My pain cave is in Whitney Point, NY and I don't have a big A race planned for next year...yet! It will prob. be a late season race.
My main goals this year are to get fast and fitter. I have been strength training without going to the gym...if you now what I mean . There for I shall be in the beginner group.
My planned racse are mostly sprints and oly's, but I am thinking about B2B or Pocono's, although Ireland sounds like a great place to go!
I have yet to pick races tri for this coming year. Planning on a few HIM, will definitely be IM free this year. I do have Disney 1/2 Mary on tap for 1/11.
