Eric Rueppel age 39 Sturgis,MI

2011 Goals
FTP 275+
Vdot 54+
Swim = anything faster than last year! image
Race weight 158

My big goal for the year is to get faster in all 3 disciples and have fun doing it.

2011 Races
Ironman free year
May Kalamazoo Marathon
July IMLP EN Sherpa, volunteer and sign up for 2012
August Steelhead 70.3 A race
Sept IMWI EN Sherpa

Hopefully hit both Tri rally in 2011
• Might as well commit now. This will be my 3rd off season so I know what pain is comming and I am excited to hurt when I walk up the stairs of my house.

I am 32 but darn it if I have to race 34 next year, joys of a Dec birthday.

Colorado Springs, Co

Intermediate OS

I haven't exaclty nailed down my 2011 schedule. Maybe Kansas 70.3 and Boulder again though I would like to try another one close to Colorado (driving distance). Definaltey will be doing the Pikes Peak Ascent in August again.

Goals at the end of OS

vdot 44 or 45, I reached 44 last year but have since lost it fighting ITBS.

I REALLY want to get much faster on the bike. I want to break the 3 hour mark for 56 miles. Maybe I'll get a pwer meter and learn to use that.

• I'm in!

After a two-and-a-half year hiatus from road tris I'm back. I blame Kitboo (my better half) and the Boyles (damn you Dave and Leigh!).

I'm 43 and live outside of Rochester, NY

2011 schedule:

• Tour of Cali in May
• Xterra Richmond in June
• Musselman 1/2 IM in July--A race
• Xterra Lake Placid in August
• IMFL in November

2011 goals:

• Out-crepe Dave Boyle in Cali
• Crush my buddies at the local 1/2 IM
• PR by a bunch at IMFL
• Get FTP closer to 320
• Get Vdot back in the low-50s again
• Let Dave out-crepe me so I lose some weight and my watts aren't so tired hauling my fat ass around the course
• Make my EN ambassador (Linda Patch) proud

I have a few questions:

1. When does the base-building phase start?
2. Is it true that Rich is a "Hollywood" marine?
3. Should I start swimming now?
4. Are Alan Couzzens and Patrick the same person?
5. When do the six-hour rides start?
6. I just bought carbon swim goggles, carbon socks and carbon shoelaces...how much fast will I be?
7. I normally peak on Saturday...how can I adjust my schedule to peak on Sunday?

• I'm in for a November start.

2011 Races:

Quassy Half Ironman June 5 2011
Ironman Lake Placid, July 2011 (first IM)
Considering NYC half marathon on March 20 to close out the OS. It's a lottery to get in though.

Outseason goals:
Get my 5k pace down to at least 7:30/mile
Learn how to use power on the bike (powermeter arrives next week)

2011 race goals:
Finish Lake Placid in the daylight and feeling good.
• Oh yeah - 46 yrs old, in Delmar, NY (just outside of Albany).
• And it will be the Intermediate OS plan.

Another goal - learn to read the instructions...

Who let this guy into EN?! He's completely UNCOACHABLE!!

• Love the questions Kevin, very funny. Please keep the humor coming, we are going to need it as the suffering will be starting shortly !!!!

• IN!!

Bill McKinney - 42 - Minneapolis, MN. 3rd OS for me!

2011 OS Goals

• FTP >275 (262 previous best...real goal is 300, but like to underpromise and overdeliver)
• W/Kg = >4.0
• VDOT = >50...I've been trying to crack 20:00 for 5K for about a few years now...been within 35 seconds, but can't seem to break through. Have a plan to run with a friend who's a 17ish kind of guy on Halloween, though, so maybe I'll start OS at that level
• Swim = 1:15...would be ~10:00 improvement over IMLOU 2008
• 20 chin-ups
• Get the carrot
• Whine less than Hayes Sanborn
• Have a higher FT than Matt Sullivan, Josh Choate, and Hayes
• Make Noodle (aka Josh) suffer mightily on Friday skis
• End OS skinnier than Rich (<157)

• Do my workouts earlier in the morning than Patrick and post them on FB before he does!

2011 Races

• January - Pepsi Challenge - 50K ski race in Biwabik, MN...super cold, super hilly course...should be fun!
• February - City of Lakes Loppet - 33K ski race in Minneapolis; American Birkebeiner - 50K ski race (America's largest) in Wisconsin with Noodle
• Jan/Feb/March - chase Noodle around Lake Harriet 5Ks
• May/June - TBD
• July - IMLP - goal sub 12:00...only other Ironman 12:55 at IMLOU 2008
• September - Pink Speedo redux...look for me at mile 18 with the Chicas!

Looking forward to a fun OS with everyone. Should be a fun one!

• Hey Bill,

If you are racing IMLP, then who the heck is going to be the reporter for " What's On My Bike" ??

• Morning:

Geoff Wieczynski in Lafayette, CA. I am 44 with a wife and 5 kids.

Yesterday was an epic day of eating. I put away 1/4 of a gallon of ice cream, a big mac, and 10 chicken nuggets--I don't eat like that everyday. Penny could feel the disturbance in the force! So after that I need to sign up for NovOS! In 2010 I ended up changing jobs and I worked like a dog. My training was terrible. I'm looking to reverse that in 2011.

2011 Races

--Tough Mudder (next weekend)

--Couple of 5K during the OS. I seem to test better in 5Ks

--Kaiser 1/2 Marathon on Superbowl Sunday.

--Moraga Sprint (I use this is a dry-run)

--Wildflower Long Distance (B race)

--Vineman 70.3.

--After Vineman I want to take a little time off and shoot for a Marathon later this year depending on listening to my body.

2011 Goals

--Balance family, work and training. My wife still has scars from the prior IM.

--Current weight is 190. Let's get down to 175 by race day

--Stay healthy. I have tight IT bands. I need to commit to foam rolling while watching TV.

--Stick to my numbers. When I tend to push the zones (especially at track workouts) I tend to get injured.

--Have a perfectly paced half mary. Frankly, my best half mary have been during a 70.3 or during training. All about execution baby!

--Current VDOT is 43 with limited training. Let's shoot for 48 by end OS.

--After my IM in 2009, I hated my bike. I need to learn to love my bike again. And I need to get much better on my bike. I have not been on the bike for months. I will figure out a FT target later.

--Best 70.3 was 5:53 in 2009 at Vineman. Of all of the races that I have done this was the one were I had my race execution dialed (thanks PnR). Thinking out loud, I would like to best that time -- so how about 5:30? 5:30 it is!

• Have a higher FT than Matt Sullivan, Josh Choate, and Hayes

Regardless of how this turns out, I will be smacking your ass at mile 18 in Madison.
• Are Alan Couzzens and Patrick the same person?

Yes, and Rich is actually Joe Friel.
• Now that you mention it I've never seen them in the same room together.

• This thread is getting good

Oh and Kevin, the 6 hour rides start tomorrow ... Just dial in 300 watts on the trainer for the first 4 and then gradually build until it is semi difficult for the last hour
• @Chris G - I think may want to consider upgrading your home printer because I have a feeling there will be a lot of carrot awards with this group.

• @Bob - that's a good question...depends on who shows up to Sherpa. I think Sheryl is coming. Not sure who else. I sent an e-mail to the T1 volunteer organizer at IMWI to reserve my slot in the bike corral for next year. Maybe I can get Dave Williams to man the camera.
• RnP,

I am in for the 11/01 OS start. How do I get my plan to change in Training Plan Central? It is showing the 10/04/10 start. I am itching to go but still have a couple races left this month before I can start. Thanks!

dusty

• @Chris G...I would dial it in but I go by PE but I've got a line on a thrice-used Ergomo on eBay. I send the Western Union Moneygram today to Nigeria...they have the best deals.

I've prepped the trainer room for my six-hour ride: American Flyers poster (Costner's 'stache is inspirational); Survivor mix-tape; sleeveless cotton shirt to display my gunboats; my first-place wrestling trophy from 5th grade (no one else was in my weight class); aero helmet.

• You'll want to change your end date in the My Training Plan Central to 03/20/11 which should put you in the Nov OS start. And for future FYI RnP are more likely to miss this question in this kind of thread. If you need a direct response from them you should post in the Micro and Macro threads as those are what they monitor the most image But changing the date should solve your problem (and if you need to change things in the future with your plan this is where you go).

• I have to be in this group just from reading the posts!!!

Plan is to make a blazing comeback from a year from hell. (3 crashes, Cancer, and an IM not under 10 hours)

Will just see how it goes at first but by the end hoping for 300 watts at <140lbs. and get back to my 58 Vdot and maybe even that elusive sub 17 min. 5K
No real plans other than a warmup half at Racing for Recovery HIM in June 5 and then Go all out for a Clearwater slot at Muncie 70.3 July 9.

Biggest Deal for 2011 will be to Altitude train with Al T. in Colorado and race Chris G. for anything

This group looks to be the best motivating crew yet and my new best friend I think is Kevin as he may just have a comeback everytime for Chris G.

• You also have to make a blazing comeback from that chili cheeseburger you ate after IMLP!

• 3 crashes, Cancer, and an IM not under 10 hours

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!? an IM not under 10 hours? Hang your head in shame!!!!

It'll be good to have you in the group!
• Man! Listening to the banter going on here, I feel like what's left over after making sausage - and the OS hasn't even begun yet!

• Oy, me too! Seems there will be no shortage of testosterone and estrogen floating around here. I guess that should be expected from any group that considers losing 10 pounds the EASY way to get faster....
• Let me be clear that MY post was in jest. I have yet to break 12 hours, much less 10... image

• R N P....I am doing the 2010 November OS...Starting Nov 1st. I have tried to set my training schedule to reflect this to the Outseason Intermediate plan but it continues to default to something totally different. Not sure if it is a computer clitch or what????? I have tried to reset aleast half a dozen times and the same thing happens. If you could give me any insight this would help. OR is it not going to do or show anything until Nov 1st.

Also wondering if my Bike test and Run test will be the start of the outseason plan or if this should be done prior to the start of the OS.

Thanks
Carl
