  • William- I remember that from the last time through. Lots of 20's seemed waaaay easier than 5 sets of something bigger to me too. Hopefully I'll be where you are again soon!
  • I debated about doing the push ups, but didn't have enough time for core work, so I did the set and I am not any worse off or more sore.
  • I knocked out week 3 day 2 column 3 today. The last set is getting harder as I go along. I'll look at the workout and think "that's no big deal", and be struggling by the end.

That's how I felt today! Got through that same workout (for the second time around) and thought it should be easy, but that last "max set" always feels rough!
  • I got so far behind that I'm going to go every other day with no weekend breaks!!! I got busy with core fitness class that I just let this go! Thanks for post on this thread so that it pops up in the unread forum and it prompts me to get off my katoosh.

OK, I was in Madison this weekend and Jonnie and I helped her for her first 5!!

Ha!  It only took me 3 weeks to notice this post.  Unfortunately I haven't done any pushups since that night.  Other life crap getting in the way for now...  But I'll be back soon.

  • Had planned to do push ups tonight after work. But received my flu shot today and my arm is sore. Guess I'll try tomorrow.

  • Out of sync today, got to the push ups after work.  Seemed really hard, was really hard.  Then I got done and realized that I had completed Week  6.  Ok that is 274 push ups.  I could literally not pour myself a glass of water.  This must be worth some kind of extra credit!

  • Geez 274 pushups... That is kind of alot for one workout. I was completely burned out after my 140ish in my last workout.

Geez if I lived near you I would come over and bow down 100 times to you!  Amazing!

    I'm not worthy!!!

  • Made it through the sets last night that got me up to one hundred. That last twenty-five was brutal!
  • Nice job Eric! Isn't it amazing how quickly you can get to 100? (well, with breaks anyway!)

I did week 4, 3rd column, day 1 today. It's my second attempt and this time I managed to do the max set. So I'm gonna try to stay on Week 4 this time and see if I make it through the week without killing myself! Those last 5 or so of the last set seem to kill my glutes and hammies just as much as my arms! It really is a fully body thing!
  • OK< I never did day 3 of week 3, so I started all over this morning. Week 3, day 1, column 3- and it felt hard even with the breaks- certainly harder than last week. I need to keep up better. But I also think I am going to switch to column 2. The jumps on the 3rd column look really big to me.
  • I will be starting my week 1 this week - My week in India they did not allow push ups - who would think !!!!!
  • I reset back to week 5, set 1.  No way I was going to make 100 next weekend...

I made a mistake and miscounted the first set today by  10.  (The 36 called for is doable; the 46 is right on the edge of my limit.)  For anyone who wonders, this is a big mistake if you want to finish the rest of the set.  Kept coming up a couple short for the middle sets, and then only 20 on the last set, instead of 40.  Added an extra set of 20 to get the number, but this isn't how I'm supposed to do it...  Oh well.

  • Another late comer here - It's a newbie thing.... didn't know what I was missing!

I tested this AM and got 30 but looking at Week 3 start-up seems like a daunting task. I start with colunm 3 but it may rip my arms off!
  • Starting week 4 today. Those number sure do jump up quickly in weeks 4,5, and 6.
  • Oh man that sucked bad. 120 pushups later and I'm already planning on having to repeat week 4.
  • Week 4, day 2, column 3. 144 total pushups. WOW! I had to strip down to my undies to get it done- it's so freakin hot! But I got it done! (Thank goodness I work from home!)
  • OH- ps, make sure you are using the 2010 pushup tracking spreadsheet. I think folks might be using the form from last year. Here's the link again:
    https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AuTRv6QZuWE-dFJIX0VKZjNnbVBxMnhvRWZNM1ZBT1E&hl=en&authkey=CIHygKoG
  • I've now got 6 people I work with in on the challenge. I put the fear of PT test in em and they're committed. I can't post to the spreadsheet until I get home, so I'll have quite the update in a couple weeks.

@ Nemo - thanks, I was one of them... fixed now.

First session in the books - Week 3, Day 1 = 80 and it didnt kill me... looking at Day 2 & 3 will be rough though.
  • Just did week 4 day 2 column 3. I'm having to consistently break up the last set, so probably going to repeat week 4. I decided to do day 2 the day after day 1 because I wasn't sore. I realized that may have been a mistake on set 2.
  • Woo hoo! I actually made the last set today (45, but good thing it wasn't 46!). I got off a day this week, but will probably do day 3 tomorrow (Friday)

  • BTW, if you google "100 pushups" (which I routinely do to find the site), there are several recipes for this. Here's another one from Men's Health (a magazine probably better described as "men's fantasy body and weightlifting because it's more macho and it shows")

    Workout 1: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Perform four times your max number of reps, taking as long as you need to do so. It's OK if subsequent sets have fewer reps than your max.

    Workout 2: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Set an alarm to go off five times throughout the day (every two to three hours is fine). Each time it sounds, hit the deck and do two sets of pushups. The first set should just be your max number. Rest 45 seconds, and then perform the second set, trying to reach your max again, resting as little as possible until you do.

Without knowing any better, this does sound like a reasonable alternative approach. The numbers we throw up on weeks 4 and 5 are in the neighborhood of 4x max.

  • Week 3, day 2 done, 100 for the day. Two days in a row is not the best, but I needed to get on track so I could finish the week before Monday.

Question: If all my sets are high quality, good form pushups but I take 20 to 30 minutes between sets, is that legit? Or will I have to repeat the week/go back a week until I can do them with the recomended RI?

Did you really mean minutes?  Or seconds?  I think you are going to find jumping from roughly 5 sets of 35-40 pushups spread out over several hours to doing 100 consecutive non-stop pushups a really hard jump.

I will give myself an extra 20-30 seconds over the 1min or 90 second rest the workout provides, but that's about it.

I kinda figured I'd get carded on that.   Looks like I might be on week 3 for a while......
