5:30am very dark and 38F clipin for 40'bike test, my first trip to the EN pain cave. results 11.91 miles, 144 ave HR. At this point I don't have a clue if that is good or bad for my catagory but I'm happy none the less to be off and going with the EN family!
My goal was to actually finish the bike test this time. My first since feb. going in my FTP was 183. I don't have time to download results as I have to get to work, but pretty sure I've dropped 10w and that's okay. Full weight and FTP later today.
Key to my success this time: watching Channing Tatum in Magic Mike. Highly recommended ladies.
OK, I'm not starting the OS til Jan. but very intrigued about the new bike tests. (20' vs. 40' is great for power!) Just wondering though... Which one do you do ... the FTP or the 5' VO2 version? It says to do just one, so which one is mo' betta? I couldn't find anything in the wiki... Thanks! (I'll leave Nov. OS now and go back under my rock until Jan.
Ok. Back at it after a two year injury and mojo plunge. I'll start with the Beginner Plan to get slowly back on track. Could only make 30' of the 40' test before legs died. Not out of breath, just short on endurance.
Weight: 195 - 30lbs over race goal.
FTP: 158 - 50 under last EN peak
This year's mantra: Do the work; Don't overachieve.
Done; must have been a good test, ended with nausea, but no hurling.
Last year/this year 1st test FTP: 180/203. Not a fair comparison, as I had 3 months off from cycling last year (for the first time since 1992), and this year, only an IM taper and two weeks off. My LTHR went up from 126 >> 137 during that time as well.
Given the relentless downward trajectory of my FTP the past few years, I'm going to be way satisfied if I finish the OS @ 215 this year. I would really like to see 230, but then I'd also like to bench press my weight once again. Maybe I can talk to Lance when I go to Aspen in January, get some "training" pointers.
To all who thought their test was hard, and "how am I ever going to do the workouts?" ... the test is harder than any workout we have coming up; if you came through that, the wkos will seem ...easy.
Interstingly, my heart rate zones did not budge from my last test. Did the Solvang Autumn double century 2 weeks ago and have been kind of a lazy little potato since then. Ultimately I am cool with it as a starting point. Nice job everyone!
I lost some power since my last FTP test in early September (300 watts 4.22 w/kg - 30 minute test). Looking to find that lost power and then some via the EN OS.
Bike test. Happy with my results, they are better than I have ever had at the start of the OS. Done indoors on the trainer with Hurricane Sandy banging at the windows. VO2 max 156 FTP 135 weight 120 = 54.4kg 2.4 w/kg height 63 inches
Howdy all, Did my bike test this morning, HR as I don't have a power meter, temps not so good. I am new to this and I'm not sure how flat I was supposed to try to keep my course but I managed to find a few hills that felt pretty rough. Here are the data: Distance - 11.78 Avg HR - 159 Peak HR - 172 Avg Spd - 17.3 Starting weight - 168
Looks like we have a start! Can't wait to crush it later.
I tested this morning using Trainer Road. The plan is to purchase a PM but for purposes of the OS i plan to do all my training and testing by way of TR. Looking forward to those EN specific workouts. Anyway, here's where i'm starting.....
5Min Power: 239
20Min Power: 224
FTP: 213
Watts/Kg: 3.02
Goal FTP: 250
This is the first time i ever focused on building my bike fitness, so looking forward to putting in some serious work during the OS.
First test in the books. Used TrainerRoad for the first time. Rode at my training center (VQ in Highland Park) on the CompuTrainer in ergo mode with my Power Tap. I absolutely loved TrainerRoad! FTP during the summer season tested at 250 so my 226 today represents quite a drop. On the bright side I've got some room to improve and the workouts will be a little easier at the start as a result of my lower score. Looking forward to the next few months. I'm 67 and started Triathlons at 65 and I'm having a ball.
First bike test and the hardest I've ever road on the trainer for sure!ill be getting everything I need to get started with virtual power and TR by Friday, does that mean I have to re-do test?
Guess I better get going! I pulled a Gordon and didn't get the test done...no real excuses other than too much work to do it in the morning and didn't get home until 8:30 p.m. Probably ought to work less! At least I didn't pull a Roy...we're off to a great start with those guys driving the ship. One went AWOL and the other blew up on DAY ONE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...lookin' forward to another great OS with all y'all!

I just bought a used SRM. I had to send it to SRM for new batteries. I will re-test once I get it back.

okay so replaced the batteries in the powertap hub and did the test after work. I like doing it first thing in the morning better.
I have been riding mostly with a group on weekends and doing mostly 85-90% of FTP for the rest of the time
today's results for the VO2 were less than I had hoped at 324 watts
FTP was 271 (only down from 274 high in May)
wuld seem more impressive is I wasn't a big clydesdale at 274 right now.
Goal is to break 300 this outseason
can only go up, bring on the work!
Got test done this afternoon!
5Min Power: 176
20Min Power: 153
FTP: 145
Goal FTP: Higher than it is now and I know where I'm starting at.
Legs felt ok right after the test but now that I'm relaxing on the couch I realized that they are toasted.
Wow! Eye popping results in so far!! I don't feel worthy!!
Here's my data using Trainer Road's Virtual Power:
5min VO2 Max = 267
FTP = 224
w/kg = 2.0
