  • oops... I had to work a little, so you had to work a little. I "think" I changed the settings so anyone with the link can now see it... Let me know if it works.

Now off to the basement to get my W/Kg up...
  • JW Good job! This will be fun. Kori I think we all might get chicked.
  • @John, nice spreadsheet!

Is there a secret way to add my information? I click on the cell to enter my name, etc. and I can't type anything.
  • @DJ you are right its locked.
  • Ok... One more try. I think i got it this time...

btw, re-tested this morning. 312.5W on my Garmin (315 on Trainerroad).

gonna use 312.5 and my after test weight of 188 for a new W/Kg of 3.66. I'm coming for you Big Brown!

  • @JW Damn it! I knew that's what you were doing now.
  • Good job John.
  • @JW Did you do the test eating Ben and Jerry's
  • @John I was able to view your ride on TR FYI. You are very smooth on the test. The power line is awesome.
  • So I'm THAT guy. I didn't read/fully understand the directions. Entered some data into some cells and screwed up the formulas on my row image I tried copying the formulas and editing for my specific stats but you'll notice that my FTP goes out several decimal places now and I have weird entries on the FTP tab.

If someone would correct the formula for me I would be greatly appreciative. I apologize. I hope I didn't screw anybody else's up.
  • Wow, I have a long way to go... Last year my best was 2.7-ish w/kg and could hit 3.00 this year should the stars (and scale) align....

So, I got out my propeller beanie (apparently it still fits) and worked on the doc. Your data rows now look okay, Doug. Curiously enough, I entered my data after fixing yours and I got the same pattern when just entering in the data. I fixed it by copying the formulas from one of the good rows and reentering my stuff. John, maybe copying out the formulas for several more rows would help. Not sure.

And, yessiree, I have a long way to go as well. There's a whole pack of us at 3.2 w/kg.

  • I think we should age weight this to be fair!

I think we should age weight this to be fair!

If we age adjust it, then we must also tier it for yrs of experience, considering how "wise" you are now and all the yrs of accumulated fitness you have.

I just learned that Google docs are not nearly as easy to work with as Excel...   I previously tried to copy down the rows, but put in a few simple commands so that the lines would stay blank until someone added data to a new row.  Also, if you add a new test, it won't show up in the "current" area until we pass the actual date in the spreadsheet...

Probably close enough for now and I'll try to tweak it and fix bugs as they come up...

  • Then back down because we have to compete against an NCAA all American. Like me taking my 20+ handicap and playing Tiger! So I guess were back where we started.
  • Alright, I had a couple of reasons to do this and so I did.

I'm coming off a double shot blood donation on November 27th (right on South Street in Scotch Plains, btw) and it is about that time when my system is back to where it was pre-donation (but I haven't checked it with a real blood test). I tested with an opening FTP of 253W and after the first several FTP segments I found I could easily match the targets and then do some pretty vigorous running. That must mean I undershot my FTP on Jan 6th - and since my cousin constantly rags on me for sandbagging I am determined to get everything I can out of this OS and really let him have it at every opportunity.

Also, since JW just did it, I just had to do it, 'cause we Jersey Boyz are nuts. After the test I went and did about 45 minutes of the OS WK2 ADV Saturday bike workout. It decided to sleet/snow this morning and I didn't feel like risking death by running outside.

  • Didn't take you long to update your signature line sandbagger! Nice Work!
  • Like I said, no sandbagging this year.

John, we should set up a time to do a run or two in the South Mountain Reservation. I don't know about the Watchung Res but there are 2 trails right near me (as in run warm-up distance) that are brutally steep and likely perfect for AZ training race rehearsing.

  • @Peter, thanks for the help.

@John & Peter, nice work with the testing.

I'm giving everyone fair warning. This thread has awoken the beast inside of me. For the next 12 weeks of OS W/Kg is going to be on my mind 24/7. My mental vocabulary has changed drastically already to include the words smash, crush, destroy a lot more frequently. Maybe I'll start saying BOOM too. I put a little less chocolate syrup in my milk after the ride today. This is that little bit extra of motivation I think I needed (time will tell). Similar to what Ray said in the thread earlier, I can see the playful trash talking making this a lot of fun.

I know I need to retest myself as well. I had a good test on 1/7 meaning I couldn't squeeze any more watts out on that day than I did, however, I hadn't been riding regularly for about 6 weeks before that. After 2 weeks of solid training my body has gotten used to working again and the FTP intervals are a little easier. It looks like I'll be retesting in the near future as well.
  • @DJ as the oldest one in this dance I am reminded of a tale I would like to share with you youngsters. It will lose some of the point because I have to PG it but here goes.

There is a young bull and an old bull looking down from the top of a ridge at a herd of young gorgeous cows. One prettier than the next. The young bull says to the old bull " hey let's run down there and get us one of those cows" The old bull shakes his head at the young naïve bull and says "Lets walk down and get them all!"

Moral here :I may not be as young and fast but I have the experience! So bring it on you know where to find me! At the top of the FTP Power Chart!

If Stefan joins all smack is off and I quit!

  • @DJ I just saw you were doing FL70.3. Me too should be fun and looking forward to meeting you all smack aside!
  • Is JW's new sheet the official one? Just so we are all working on the same one.

JW - thanks for adding in my info to the new sheet!

If we are instituting some sort of age rule, then there sure as shit better be a gender-weighted formula, and don't tell me it's already accounted for because gals are usually lighter than guys. ;-)

I'm bad at smack talk. Just know that I'm quietly working away in the background. See y'all on the other side. ;-)
  • @Kori Come on you fear me the most. Did you not see what I said about getting chicked!
  • I cant even talk smack right! I meant I fear you the most
  • @Big Brown-- Nice story... But, how dare you call Kori a Cow!?!?!?
  • So now the WSM starts the smack and wants to get me booted off the boards by  spreading lies. WOW  A lot of people running scared. I am getting in everyone's head as well.
  • Ok all I am way past my 2:00 pm nap talk to you later. Train while I sleep. It might be your only chance.
  • I messed up the spreadsheet.....sorry. I was that kid that did the entire test, even though the teacher said read all the directions first (and the last direction said to not do the test)......but I got all the answers right and still finished before the kids that were only reading.....BAMMM!!!

Can you fix me (in the spreadsheet) Mr. Withrow image
  • This is one of my favorite cycling related t-shirts. It is total cozy, fits nice and embodies everything I think about when I imagine myself at 4 watts/kilo....
