  • I'd like a hat as well if you are still taking orders. I'll wear it with the neoprene mouth-mask!
  • I'd like to get in on the hat order as well. When are funds being collected?

FWIW - I have (happily) been unable to accrue any points so far, but as of tomorrow it's going to the 30s here with some snow expected on sunday.
  • I am in for a hat as well
  • Team Texas is back on the map! I even put my name on the spreadsheet for 2 points haha
thats 2 more points than I though I would get! My trip to wahington for a week should produce many more!
  • Did a VERY cold hour run last night when I got done fixing my wife's computer. 10pm, was -2 with a wind chill of COLD. We'll call it 15 below since we're among friends.

I define windchill of COLD or lower when I have to rejigger my clothing so I wear my tights under my running shorts, with a hand warmer in a bootie sock stuffed in my shorts. After some painful trial and error over the years, this seems to provide enough heat (but not too much) to keep things from freezing that shouldn't.
  • Great job everyone! I will place the hat order on Friday to give everyone a chance to join up.
  • Scored 2 points this AM Finally! (Don't know why I'm excited about this I'm not a cold weather person.)

Neighbors look at me as if I was crazy and it was only 30 degrees - 20+MPH winds though.

And I'm getting much better at judging the proper amount of clothing for cold weather runs.
  • I listened to the 20 mph wind and decided to go with a nice video workout since I don't start OS until January. At that time, I will get plenty more points.
  • Chilly, snowy run tonight---23 degrees with blowing white stuff. Sugoi Firewall tights = toasty!
  • 25 degrees yesterday! yes it does get cold down here!! no snow though. ran one mile.
  • Going to put on the boards and race a 5K Freestyle Nordic race on Saturday. Should be interesting. Haven't raced in many years so my technique is going to be sketchy at best. Even more interesting would be the possibility of signing up for the 7.5K Novice biathlon on Sunday. Sketchy skiing combined with even sketchier shooting ability!
  • Getting to be kind of mild in Milwaukee, an hour in 25 degree weather, how nice
  • Aw, see, and here I was feeling all proud of myself today for nothin. It was 38 and I went out for an ABP ride. I bundled up well and felt nice and warm once I got started. So I thought I'd check in here to see what kinda Tundra Points that might have earned me only to find NONE!

Dang- you guys are Hard Core!!!!
  • Kevin,
I'll take a hat if it's not too late.
    Dave
  • I decided to wait until it "warmed up" to 20 degrees before going for a run. I needed to get it in before the snow starts flying. It has been in the single digits to teens with winds all week. Since I have not started OS, I refused to subject myself to that pain. Here's to warmer weather in the new year!
  • Guess I won't get any points today since I am going for a x-c ski. I guess you kind of want snow/ wind/ cold for this. Still gotta bundle up against the wind!
  • Hope to earn some points in January. If the hat order is still available, I'd like one! I hadn't been on this forum for awhile, obviously! Let me know, and how much.
  • Whoo-hooo! Got a run in today...31 degrees and snowing in NW Indiana! Gotta love it!
  • Hats ordered today. Delivery to me on January 8th and will then flip them around to send to you. Will need to get everyone's address. If you e-mailed or posted up until today you have a hat. They are free from me as part of the challenge! Merry Christmas!
  • Bryan Bigari is in the lead so far through December with Kitima holding down a strong second. Don't forget to tally up your TTF points as well as your holiday challenge points. Add your name and your points to the spreadsheet. If you are late and wish to join, I will reset the point tally on Jan 1st and we will compete on a monthly basis.

    Spreadsheet is here

  • I've added everyone who e-mailed me to the spreadsheet. I did order a couple of extra hats so if you still want in on the challenge (and a hat), it is first come first served.
  • We had a nice cold spell for a few days here on Long Island, i managed to sneak two runs in. It'll be getting warmer here for about a week, then January should be getting to point scoring weather again. I don't think it will be cold enough during the Holiday CHallenge, maybe if I go early enough in the morning.

More 'painful' than the runs was Marshaling the Ted Corbitt 15K last Saturday for 3 and a half hours standing still in 25 degree temperatures and WATCHING others run and get their body heat up! Two pairs of tights under my jeans and 5 layers up top kept my body toasty, but even with the smartwool socks on, I was wearing temperature inappropriate vented footwear that made for a long morning - I'll know better next time.
  • Rode mtb for 90' yesterday and today---what great conditions! Nothing like fluffy snow, dry leaves, and the Camelbak to break a fall. Going out later for a run---racking up points for both Holiday Run Challenge...
  • shoot, my name was on the spreadsheet and I haven't been tallying, so put in this week's!! okay gonna "race" tomorrow and sub 32 and packed bike stuff too and this might just be the motivation even with new bike helmet cover and new Gore gloves... you should see all the gear I have for a possible 15mph winds, sub 32 ride in the morning.....definitely running will see about the riding
  • I don't get any points for todays run, in this challenge. But I am thrilled that it is finally above freezing for a few days!
  • Same here - no points today (or yesterday). I should probably check what the wind chill was.
  • Yep I ran and then rode in the cold, so I get 2 points for today!! okay my spreadsheet only goes as far as 25 december??

accuweather.com puts the real feel at 33! They shoulda been running next to me when the mad that call. image
  • 4 miles today in 28 degrees, with 20 mph+ winds, with snow coming down! Gotta love it! Great run! image
  • Spreadsheet ends at 12-25, so I just plugged in my point in 12-25, for today.
