  •  Marianne,

I saw that you already ordered but hands down this is the very best water bottle filter I have ever used. Now my husband tells me that you can filter river water but I wouldn't.  Anyway, check this out....http://www.berkeyfilters.com/berkeysport.htm

  • Marianne, I'm making your bean soup from the recipe forum!!!  I even found gluten free ranch dressing mix for it.  I had that recipe a long time ago from a Weight Watcher's forum but couldn't find it again so I'm glad you posted it!!!

I was also thinking I would make the pork chop/apple/squash recipe and pulled the pork chops out of the freezer last night.  As my daughter was walking out the door for school she said over her shoulder, "Lucas is stopping here on his way home tonight." Insert big guy....eats lot here.  So off to the store to buy another package of pork chops........

  • Sheryl, one son said it is too "beany" and the other one likes it!! will see what the water bottles look like when they come in, yep I just got on a packing kick and ordered stuff last night. and just read that Antigua is a World Heritage Site so jazzed about that!! m
  • M- My bro has been working with Youth with a Mission (YWAM) for over 15 years now. He has been teaching, preparing folks for missions fields and done alot of missions work traveling. If you have questions, I'm sure he would be glad to help out. Can send you email address & they're on Facebook (Sean Ellis) They are currently in Kona getting ready to leave for Tawain end of Jan. He, my sister in law & 4 kids will be establishing an Asian base there for the missions. It's wonderful they are so convicted and have a heart for this. Don't know I could do it!

Crazy week here! Work still busy and can see alot of the stress of the economy really hitting our industry and country now. Very excited- ladies night tonight at our local Trail Store. They are bringing in a rep from Moving Comfort, serving wine, cheese etc. Looking forward to it!

  • Cool about your brother!! and kids. in the meantime, some of the peeps who went last year to Gtmala.. emailed me so I got some good info! found out the weather and today it was 100! fun at the Trail store!! okay so I decided to purchase the sugar free yogurt and got the Greek kind.. and mixed in Grape nuts and fresh blackberries, it still tastes like sour cream to me!! or some such.. maybe I shoulda bought the vanilla? just mixed in some vanilla of my own.... maybe next time some honey??!!! I know peeps rave about this Greek stuff but this is my 2nd time to try it, I love yogurt and got spoiled on Yo Baby full fatted! by Sonyfield Farms, banana and vanilla with fruit mixed in by me.... so now I am switching over the yogurt.. I don't really want aspartame or other since I already use that in my coffee.... I read Tosca Reno's Clean Eating while standing in Walmart today, $10 and an easy read.... yep this yogurt tastes like it needs to be on pita bread with chickpeas and not with fruit!!! so what do you other yogurt peeps do?? looking for something sugar free.... m
  • OOOOooo, Kris, I love my moving comfort! Hope you found something good!
  • m--just checked that email for the first time in two days! I sent you the info. Love--LP

  •  M- The greek yogurt is an acquired taste. Now I have a hard time eating the other kind of yogurt. I use vanilla and a little honey. have it with mixed berries( straw, blue, raz, & black). The  other thing that probably helps is I take it to work as one of my snacks. So in am before work, I mix it all together. Perhaps by the time i eat it at work- the honey has pulled some of the sugar from berries? Yummy! I just use a liitle honey- a couple teaspoons?

Even today took it with me already mixed up to my mom's. So maybe you can prepare it ahead? let sit a bit? just a thought

Had a moment or two of weakness at my moms despite bringing my snack- stuck my hand in her candy jar. Had 3 , yes 3, hershey nuggets with almonds .Gotta break that conditioned response. It's like I start salivating for them when I pull into her old person complex.

Which clean eating did you look through. I made the minestrone with couscous the other day. it was the cover recipe. It was good. need to post in recipe thread. It is vegetarian-(Nemo). I was a cooking fool on Sunday. Also made a squash casserole, parmesean popovers ( not so good) and these hazelnut espresso cookies oh and a shepards pie. All from same issue. i'll try to post in a few days

Oh and what is it about driving that makes one so tired. Drove from baltimore, up to north of philly, to visit with mom, take her to store, then on to Trenton to pick something up at my sisters, then back to baltimore. When I got home my eye was twitching cause it wanted to close. Fell asleep for about an hr.  I learned my lesson about getting workout done in am.  If I were to do workout now, I will be up really late and I have to be at hospital at 6:15 am . On that note

Gotta get ready for bed. Night all

  • It takes about 10 seconds to get behind here!!

Su had to unexpectedly pick up call tonight, so, I am baking bread, doing laundry, trying to catch up, and listening to the rain come down.

Marianne- I have to agree with the others. Give the Greek yogurt a chance, it WILL grow on you. We love to mix nuts and fruit with it for a snack. Chobani is the house favorite.

Tracy & Kit- So glad both of you are healing up those knees. Kit, if you can do IMMOO on a MTB, you are gonna rock it !

Nemo- How is the calf coming along? Just how pruney are you from all of the pool time? Thinking ahead: How are you going to ship your bike to July Camp?

Beth- Welcome back !! I had a million computer questions for you while you were gone.

Carly- Welcome to forum! I can't offer too much on the home location front, but it appears you've gotten many opinions.

It is T-9 days until we go get Anabelle!! I am excited and scared as it has been awhile since we've had a puppy around. You guys will be inundated with pictures very soon!!

  • oh yeah I just spent $8 on the stuff, will eat and try mixing in something!! yeah I am not picky so will eat anything but thought I might be missing some secret trick to the stuff!!! just in from dog class, but gotta scoot!
  • I made three recipes from the forum of the same name yesterday.  Made the bean soup which was a hit.  Made the pork chops/squash/apples which the "he's not my boyfriend...we are just friends even though we text call and hang out more than anyone I know" gobbled up and mentioned that he liked several times during the night and made the kale and sweet potatoes.  I got Chinese Kale which I found out isn't as favorful as the regular green kale.  My kids started calling it whale when they were little so we always call it that.  Anyway...it was an EN menu kinda night at out house.  Tonight....the brisket is already marinating.....yum..... Ok...so more than anyone wanted to know about my life...

For those of you in the Oct OS who have been following those updates....I did sneeze this morning and practically had to do Lamaze breathing to get through the pain.....

  • Sheryl- Sneeze?  Oh my, I think I've missed something here!

I wanna try that Kale recipe- it sounds yummy and I love both Kale & Sweet Potato's too.  Marianne- I've tried Greek Yogurt 2-3 times before and haven't quite aquired the taste for it either.  It seems a little too sour or something for my preference.    But I do like just plain Activia yogurt and that's usually my afternoon "snack" with tea.

Gina- can't wait to see those puppy pictures and here all the stories.  Hmmmmm, all these wonderful puppies, how are we gonna get them all to Madison for the race?!  Oh, and I'm not sure about my bike for Cowgirl Camp yet.  I don't like putting it on the plane, so I'll probably ship it out via FedEx or something like that.  I'll want to ride Friona and that will probably be the first time she gets packed & shipped (which I guess would be good practice for race week too).

My clalf is improving.  Temptation is HUGE right now to start biking 'cause I know I wouldn't feel any pain.  But I'm staying strong and away from my beloved Hobbs  who sits in the corner on his trainer looking at me with those sad blue eyes.  The massage therapist hit some MAJOR bound up mayofacial stuff last night and worked it HARD!   It was seriously all wadded up in a ball and took him a lot of work & time to get things to break up and move again.  I see that as a good sign because last week he couldn't even get deep enough to find that spot.  I'm icing it like crazy today 'cause it's actually bruised from all the work!

Oh- and heads up, next week I'll be traveling for business with meetings from 8-8 every day.  So my access to the forum will be pretty limited.  Good news is that will also keep me from getting any crazy ideas to run or bike too- I just won't have the time or access!

Finally- gotta say it again, I really miss the old emoticons!  These new smilies just ain't doing it for me.

  • yogurt update!! I will try the Activia. now why is this Greek stuff good for me??? (insert old emoticon here).... I tried honey, a bit of splenda, grape nuts and blackberries.... I think I am gonna use this stuff on tacos and such... it is like a creamy sourcream!!! I am trying though....Pot roast today and gonna get started ASAP cuz I got my PT extended and they called today and since it hurt today gonna scramble and go see them.....a small circle of pain that the end of the trigger point rolling pin stick thing, could mash it with.. that small. aaarrrgghhh (old smiley here).....anyways, gotta scoot... the dog doesn't like his new car kennel, doesn't like being heeled and showed me by trying to wee while walking!! after having access to the grass several times. on the pavement of the trail... ewwwww... took him right over to the edge where the grass was to get him to finish! really. anyways too much info!!! life is calmer in the mornings to school though with him contained!! m
  • I second what Gina said, Chobani rocks! 140 calories for 6 full ounces, 0 grams fat, and 14 grams of protein per yummy cup. Yes, it has sugar, but it is real sugar, not corn syrup, and the only ingredients are milk, sugar, fruit (peach flavor is my fave), and yogurt cultures. The plain greek yogurt is a great substitute for sour cream and helps make soups and mashed potatoes creamy without added fat.

Sheryl, you are cracking me up! You should be okay to sneeze by tomorrow! I need to try cooking some of those yummy recipes.

Nemo, glad to hear the calf is doing better! Try not to make eye contact with that bike.

Gina, 8 days now, right? How exciting!
  • Might try Skyre- it's actually a cheese but yogurt like and very tasty with healthy amount of protein and carbs. Abt 200 cals for a full carton but easy enough to split. I like the strawberry. The vanilla, I add frozen berries to and is yummy. I do keep some of the small Activas around too - just quick & easy.

Swam with master group today- 2000 yds- woohoo- my longest swim since end Aug. Was happy to see I wasn't in last lane and get to move up next week. Lots of drills (thank goodness- don't think I could have survived 500's!! Trail run tomorrow and teach spin class @ new tri shop in town Sun am! Fun fun!!

Finally- gotta say it again, I really miss the old emoticons!  These new smilies just ain't doing it for me.

    ME TOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • Yogurt Update #2!!!!!   Greek Yogurt aka why is it $4 per container??

I am now eating it over some "fajita style chicken" leftovers from last night... now we are talking and I might be sold cuz one cup is only 130 cals but 9 g of sugar (no added) and 23 grams of protein and 30% calcium!  and with five live bacterias....

dog is eating a steak bone so life is good!!  m

  •  Gina - Were you dual-booting a mac?

Yogurt - Love the greek yogurt. I like to eat it plain, with a little bit of honey. I can't eat sugar yogurt anymore. No more crazy pink stuff for me.

Emoticons - I regularly miss the little guy with the whip.   (I can copy him in from the other site. Does that mean I can code him in? Hm. hm.)

Have any of you ladies had Invisalign? My dentist thinks I need straighter teeth. He's oddly excited about this.

  • @Beth- Friends daughter (adult) tried them. Found it to be a hassle and did not follow through. This is a very responsible woman, so I take it seriously that she found it too much trouble. I have regularly considered it, but as I get older I just look in the mirror and say- too bad. I had braces 3 different times. What I ended up with and the shifting in life is all "good enough". My dentist asks at every visit about a chipped front tooth I have had for forever. I don't think the average person can tell it is chipped, but she can and is always wanting to fix it. I like her, but I see this as a money ploy since I have repeated ly said I am fine with it. She has also tried to push whitening. Call me lazy, but I have better things to do with my time.
  • Nemo- Glad calf continues to get better. I really hear you on temptation. Like Kristen says, don't look. I picture those geiko eyes with the money but instead follow you around with your bike

Gina- yah on Annabelle coming soon. How exciting! Those pix on FB are adorable.

Kris- good job on swim. I took a swim lesson last week to work on things. Plan to drill next 5-6 weeks then get back to Masters. I used to love swimming masters in AZ. Found a good place here with multiple times to swim. It is the place michael Phelps bought with his coach.

I should try chobani- have only done Fage 0%.

Ok, my arms may be sore next  few days, just had 4 shots, 2 in each arm, need to get another on wed. My hopsital is planning a trip to Haiti sometime next week. From what little I know so far there will be teams going down for a week at a time and rotating. I signed up to go, just not sure when I'm going yet. Definitely, not the first team. So will probably be busy next few weeks cause if i'm  in Haiti, I will be picking up extra shifts to cover  those that are gone.  It should be interesting. It will be my first mission type trip. Can't even begin to imagine what it will be like to provide anesthesia in that setting. gotta scoot. More later

  • I’m venting a little here….but keeping with the invisalign, dentist theme that Beth brought up….

The oral surgery that I was hoping to get done during my transition week(s) between OS and IMSG race prep may not be feasible given where we are now, and when I’ll start race prep. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the details about the transition guidance and the start of race prep, and now that I’m looking at the details, I would have had to have scheduled that work for next week in order to be recovered by 2/6 which is the 12 weeks to IMSG date. All of this assumes that I would have to start race prep on 2/8, and that they aren’t kidding when they say I will jeopardize my healing if I raise my BP during for between 1-1.5 weeks (a big part of me thinks that’s John Q. Couch-Sitting-Public advice).

In the grand scheme I’m leaning toward postponing this whole oral surgery mess until after IMSG. Seriously. It seems like the stars are aligning in that way (…they don’t even have the stupid pre-auth from insurance yet, even though the request and the details were submitted the last week of 2009!!) The only reason to do it is that this periodontal stuff has to be fully resolved before I can start the orthodontic work which has to be done before I can start the implant process and get closer to having teeth again. Putting this off another 3 months is just another three months of delaying everything. What’s three more months at this point.

Even if I started race prep a week later, I’m not sure I’d be healed. And what if for some silly reason things went awry or I got an infection I might jeopardize IMSG altogether. Would hate for that to happen after I’ve come this far. Am I crazy?? Need chicka guidance rather than macro level coach feedback.

BTW – after writing this I think I’ve decided to postpone…thanks for chatting this out with me!
  • Olivia- Sounds like waiting in the best of all worlds. As in the insurance company hasn't gotten their act together, complications could put it all in jeopardy. If it isn't an urgent issue, then wait. You will have plenty of time after IMSG to keep the BP low. You have been through so much in a non stop fashion. A break from it all might not be a bad idea. Just my $.02.
  • Gee Olivia- I'm so glad we could solve that for you! Aren't we smart :-)

Seriously- I agree. Postponing the whole thing sounds like the right idea.
  • Olivia, postpone, postpone! You would probably be furious with yourself if something went wrong and screwed up your IM training. 3 months isn't that long, as long as you aren't jeopardizing your health by waiting. You will have plenty of time to keep your BP low after IM SG.
  • Olivia- Def a good idea... just go back and read some of our ladies posts abt 4-6 weeks pre IM and you'll see basket cases. No need to inject more stress (disclaimer - obviously we all survived the IM emotions too as race week erases all memory of previous pain!) So envious of IMSG- you will need take many pics!

Super foggy here tonight (3rd day for this weather). Good night for staying in with book or movie. Reminds me of the movie Sleepy Hollow- keep expecting to hear galloping hooves any moment.... Read Coach Rich's post abt possible relocation to CO and ready to pack my bags. Only time I've lived outside KY, I was 2 yo, so don't remember. CO sounds super cool!
  • Kris--I'll meet you in CO!

Olivia--unless it impacts your health long term, put it off for schizzle!

    Gotta run to Jazz night!

My youngest uses whitening strips and they are expensive and I fear not good for her.  I can't imagine that it can be very healthy.  On the up side, she does have the best smile of anyone I know.  (the straight part cost enough.....I hope she keeps wearing her retainers).  The other thing she got last year was a bruxism guard.  The dentist said it should aid in keeping her teeth aligned since it prevents grinding.  Of course this was another upcharge for the dentist......

  • Any of you that want to check out CO - Denver or Summit County/Vail - just LMK. Ooooh, how cool would it be to some day have a chicka retreat in the mountains!??! Lots of great hiking, trail running, etc. in my backyard. Could even have an MTB day so Kitima could school us! That'd be so much fun... I'd have to kick Brian out to make room!! Would love to be able to take an EN girlz outing on some of my fave epic rides. One can dream...

Thanks for the help with my decision! You're all right, adn you're all smart!! And Michele your comment about not having to worry about anything during transition week really struck me. How great to truly just have a week off of training, mouth/head stuff, and just live? Again, thanks!

I've always understood that the issue with whitening teeth is that it eats up the enamel and can exacerbate senstivity. My teeth have always been uber sensitive, even before all of this trauma. Whitening will always be off the list for me. Brian did it for a while through our general dentist, and it really does take commitment and planning ahead to get it right every day.

  • +1 for an EN Girlz retreat in CO!!
