N- Glad all is working out with the passport. It is scary that YOU of ALL people missed that?? (insert old WTF smilie here)

C- I was going to offer my XL, though not sure how I could get it to you in time?

Yesterday we went to do our swim and the pool was closed. Not too concerned. Did a 30 min run on the mill and things are sluggish, but good. Damn near whacked the end of my thumb off earlier while chopping veggies for turkey stock!!

Nemo, that's great!! Have a wonderful trip, can't wait to see lots of pictures !

  • good on the passport.

    good on the singlet

good on the running clothes under work clothes

good on me figuring out how to post pics and vids.  later on I will upload some of me swimming in my video analysis!!  its' a wonder I have enjoyed swimming so much as off as I am in the water.  just got back.

didn't do the 3 x 10' bike, chilly here and ran and swam instead!!

Ran 3 on the trail and very nice!  the mud made for a nice soft surface

Put down the knife and any other dangerous objects!

We will miss you Nemo and other vacayers.

to anybody sick or having dental work, you know who you are.... well I just wanted to use this smiley!!!

is this it? for the chicka smiley??? okay so she has on lipstick and when I got out of the pool in the bathroom, this other gal said "did you wear mascara?"  uh huh yeah!!!  waterproof, hey I had some errands to run before the lunch swimming and I just laughed inside knowing that Maybelline lasts through an Ironman and I remember other conversations about who wears makeup and who doesn't!!

on my mission trip?  8 days of no running or other training, they were worried about "food< water" and etc, and i am thinking "no running!"  but apparently quite a bit of hiking and hill climbing and there is COFFEE...  had another get together and some of the group was telling us about their last year's trip

and I was asking "what to wear" what to Pack!!

nope not mad at anything just wanted to give this guy a whirl,

oh, he is kinda cute and if you look in "we have pics" in clubhouse I posted the You tube of my mt biking adventure!!

    okay gotta go.    m

  • TOMORROW?????!!!!! That's GREAT! We'll miss you, but you know that!

  • Yay, Nemo, great news!  Have a wonderful trip!

Marianne, I loved your post using all the smilies.

One question - on some of your sig posts, it says EN Lil' peep.  What, exactly, is that?

  • Swim videos:  okay so I have snuck back to master's swim to get some help!!  found a new place and they videoed me.  wonderful pool, correct temps and some help and I am in heaven!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC90bimSZqA

elbow, catch, kick, hands not crossing & breathing needs work but good body rotation and position!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ3yGONfwog

underwater side view, here we can see left hand is catching air, hence the trail of bubbles, and my kick is outta alignment!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40fmdUhDX3w

more of the same but now I gotta a lot to think about in the pool!!!  ha ha.  inflexible ankles are making anchors in the water and then too much kick is allowing the calfs to be "brakes", then we have the left hand catching air and crossing midline when I breathe, my head is too far outta water on breathin and allowing too much frontal drag, my right elbow and arm/back is not making a powerful catch and like I told the guy videoing me and giving me my report "AND my tanlines need working on!!" and we just laughed......  so this is 10 months out from race day and plenty of time to improve.

As a member of the 'lil peeps, I'll chime in. It's what Rich calls us--the women who don't push 300 watts, who don't run 5' miles, but who he sees as every bit as hardcore and tough in his eyes as the biggest, fastest guys around here. He also calls us, "the wee hardcore." We're proud of being 'lil peeps, and the guys know not to mess!

  •  Oh Gina, thank you anyway.  I got an in the mail confirmation from Rich this morning.  PUT THE KNIVES DOWN. The grocery stores sell chopped veggies for times like these.

Yay Nemo!  What a sweet hubby to get that done.  You've made me go take a look at my passport!

Cool videos M!  I want to have that done.

  • Nemo---Yipee! NZ here you go!! Have fun--can't wait to hear all about your adventures.

Robin---That's a funny pic of that fat mouse! I do feel bad snapping their little necks and poisoning them...I'm Buddhist. I've watched "Ratatouille" and loved it. I would set a plate of food out for them---if they just didn't POOP all over the place!

Linda---I second your sentiment about our wonderful group of chicas. We are so fortunate and blessed to have each other's support.

Since I've been riding in the woods most of the summer, I've gotten a little gunshy about road riding. I've been riding on the road (commuting, training) for 25 years with no fear. However, recently I've been talking to my elderly patients and their spouses...a few of them are blind in one eye, cataracts in both eyes, half-way to dementia and they STILL DRIVE!!! The poor eyesight ones say,"Well, I can see enough to drive."

I will typically wear high vis clothing, a blinking red light on my seat---gonna add another blinking red light on the back of my helmet. If someone hits me, they obviously have something against Christmas trees.

  • Nemo's off on her grand adventure! We're on our own around here for a while!

Kit--I hear you on being gun shy on the roads. The population is aging, and you absolutely do see it on the roads. Beware ANY Crown Vic, Lincoln, or Toyota's with the gold medallions. image I'm almost serious! Between the world feeling agressive, and really, really old people who can't drive, it is supe dangerous out there--more than in recent years. It's why I try and get out at the crack. In the area where I live, it's made a bit worse by our narrow, winding streets and teh gigundoo SUVs. Not room for two at once some times!

Out to run in a bit! Great day everyone!

  • Boy am I having a hard time getting used to this new forum. Not sure why, I'm not usually so resistant to change....well, hmmm, better not say that. Anyway, I think I'll get it straight soon.

Kitima, I'm so jealous of your little MTB adventure! You have really gotten in a lot of MTB days this year. I'm sure that you are hating to give it up.

Can't believe IMAZ and Coz are coming up finally! Exciting, exciting!

Oh, here's a question for any of you that may have used TTbikefit. How much did Todd's advice end up costing? Brian is having a hard time with the idea that "some guy" can look at a homemade video and figure out any and all bike fit issues. And that he's going to charge money for that. Any input?

That's becasue this forum is not as easy to use or intuitive as the last one. I am still lost here, and really find I have to work hard to stay connected. (Except for this forum. image) For instance, the active topics is not working, at least on my machine. So I have to go to each cateegory, which I am NOT doing. Even I have better ways to spend time! image

  •  Gina, not to worry....I'm hoping one of you will still be there at 11:59 to see me come in....

  •  On 3.0 I always just looked at New Posts unless I was searching for something.  I'm assuming (I know I know) that Not Read is the same concept.  In 4.0, I do always go to the What it Takes....

Shhhhhhh- I'm not here!   Linda- have you tried using the "Not Read" button up top?  For me, that shows all the threads I haven't read yet.  Makes it super easy for me to catch up.

OK- really- I'm getting outa here!

  • Yes I am also behind on forum reading and find it a bit more bulky to maneuver!! so I just check in here to get the scoop!! also behind on videos and podcasts! just got in from running 7.5 and still cold here. yeah I know not cold cold but cold enough for tights, long sleeves headband and gloves and I warmed up in track pants and jacket and then I ditch those on a tree and keep on running and pick up on my way back for my walk it in cool down, one of my favorite parts! now once running, I don't notice the cold, unless I have to stop like when my husband called me, and the sweat then becomes like cold water in the nape of my neck! and NO IPOD today by accident so concentrated on light feet and controlled easy breathing ... until the 2 x1 mile which just happened to be into the headwind so I wouldn't say I hit my pace but definintely got the effort in! nobody out on the trail, so I always leave my clothes somewhere!! we had to turn on the heat last night so.... put up with me grumbling a bit about it getting cold as I know some of you will start when it gets hot next summer!! but I have new shoes!!! always nice AND they matched my tights with turquoise on the back of black Nike tights with a turquoise Brooks top, so soft and comfy and turquoise jacket, remember I got it for Christmas.... and a running headband and at least on an overcast day I had on my favorite colors!!! = summer ones at that. okay enough, the run was great actually and in the beginning I asked God "to bless this run" and I had never specifically worded my request that way and the run was really special..... I thought of Nemo traveling and how much we will miss her so I think

some of you new gals it is time to step to the plate!!!! and help fill in the conversation around here!!! okay gotta scoot and stretch, too cold out there!! please note that tomorrow it will be 60 and sunny and you will note a difference in my attitude..... and pretty soon today's 40 degree weather will sound warm it is just this adjustment and all the dadgum stinky laundry!!
  • Girls forget the training plan and get out the door to run!!!  the most efficient way to burn off those calories.... cuz I just read this!

the AVERAGE calorie-consumption for people is 5,000 calories on Thanksgiving Day.  Nope.   the portions were not completely out-of-control.  It was just that the food was sooooo very calorie-dense.  Veggies and pigs in a blanket as appetizers. A handful of nuts.  ONE plate of food. And ONE serving of dessert.  That totalled 5,000 calories, right then and there.

RUN!!!!!!  RUN... run.  100 calories per mile....   so 5,000 calories is well let me think, 5 miles is 500 calories so 10 miles is 1,000 so 50 miles is 5,000!!!!  oh my goodness, is my math right???  of course you need your basal caloric intake anyways, so let's say 2400, so you are only overeating by 2,600 calories which is only a marathon!!!!!    in this case, I am skipping the turkey and going to straight to the fudge and pecan pie...

  • Happy Wednesday, ladies!

About a month ago, my home state mandated that all health care workers get both the seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccinations.  I was up in arms. "They can't tell me what to put in my body!" I ranted. So kicking and screaming I got the seasonal flu vaccination and VOWED over my dead body that there was no way I would be forced to get the H1N1 vac. It had not been thoroughly tested. It's gonna give me Guillain Barrie---and nothing ruins an IM season like PARALYSIS. Blahblahblah.

So many nurses marched on the NYstate capitol building in protest and now that mandate is gone. Dodged that evil swine flu vaccination I did... Well, I am going to Argentina in Feb. My mom told me that Argentina has the most deaths from H1N1 than any other country in the world. *Big sigh*  So I marched down to Employee Health this morning (tail between my legs) and said,"Uh...you guys have any of those H1N1 vaccinations left?"

  • Hello ladies!

Oh, H1N1 -- Maybe think of it that nothing ruins tri season like el gripe H1N1 in Argentina?

Marianne - My shoes are turquoise, too! And my favorite running tops. I also have a new pair of gloves that match my sugoi subzero tights. I usually avoid it, but I think this is the witner for fashion.

Vacation - managed. plane tickets, ski pass, condo reservation, shuttle to mountain all acquired. And boyfriend must be getting serious about our relationship -- he keeps talking about how Santa should bring me skis for Christmas. I've been borrowing boyfriend's sister's skis, which are a little too long and aggressive, but I'm still a gumshoe skier and don't know any better. Is this a boy sign of serious commitment?

Yeah, this forum is taking a little getting used to, with its san serif fonts, etc. I'm thinkng we need a haus warming. Perhaps an invitation for everyone to pour themselves a favorite beverage, toast the new club house, and tell their best cocktail party story?

And I did my first workout with power! Modified, a little sloppy, and wow, watts bounce all over the place, but I'm ready to go back to the pain cave for another ride and want to read everything about training with power now.

  • This week is all about running and meetings.  Calves & quads sore like you wouldn't believe after trail race.  Wasn't sure I could even run Monday (as walking was a chore) but pleasantly surprised that went ok.  Getting dark now in the pm runs and had to add a 1 mile hilly stretch to get in 7.  The mile out is mostly down, mile back is mostly up.  As we got to bottom of hill, my run partner says you know this is gonna be brutal... after the hills on Sat, I think this is gonna be nuffin!  Well, sure enough shoulda kept my mouth shut (story of my life! )  as about 3-4' in the rain started- so hill + windy + rain = WOW!  Made it back in though!

Yesterday was speedwork and knocked out 3X600,3X500,3X400 3X200 for total of 9 miles (plus 2 miles b4 and after the repeats) all on the treadmill.  Luckily my fav treadmill, complete with floor fan, was open and got it knocked out.  This is my highest mileage week and what a dosey!

Meetings at work today, Th & Fri so loooonnnnggg week!  Got some new shoes on Sun but no tourquise.. they are BRIGHT yellow with navy.  Love the bright, bright colors.  Zoots on sale at Running Whse so may have to snag a pair for next year!

  • Beth, I, too, am a power new-new-newbie.  In fact, my first ride with power will be tomorrow am.  I'm excited!  I know there's a lot to learn.

Kitima, probably a smart decision to get that H1N1 vaccine.  No one wants the flu, but especially not on vacation in Argentina.

Had a tough but great run in the cold and dark this morning (mind you, 45 degrees is cold to me), but got to see the sun rise while I was out there.  Reese the dog running buddy much prefers this weather to Houston summers.   I didn't even have to encourage her to run that third interval! (Had to talk myself into it, though.)

Having kind of a slow day at work today, but one case had a swift and satisfying resolution.  Cat came in not eating for several days, and his abdomen seemed tender.  Took a radiograph and he had a bladder stone!  With the owner's permission I had him in the surgery room within an hour, removed the stone, and woke him back up.  He seems much happier now and has even eaten a little snack.

Have a great rest of the day, ladies!

  • hey, that is what it is, the font!!  it is so _____ looking!!!  not sure of the word....so if reply to this topic, did it go under somebody's name or under the topic, not sure if I am stacking my thoughts like a pyramid or like a run on sentence as in 3.0... oh well, ... oh and note after each smilie, the font goes back to regular so you gotta keep highlighting to change the font....

well, which one do we like better??  this is verdana....

comic sans MS....  overcast and frankly feels like "english" weather today and my mother is British and I met her for lunch and she agreed and we had shrimp bisque soup with whole wheat bread with REAL butter!!  and okay the crowds are OUT there shopping for Thanksgiving and yes I did that too... and I went to TJ Maxx and Target and got bogged down in some traffic....  Christmas decorations are out in force....I didn't buy anything terrible exciting just the regular stuff!  and this whole post has rambled!!

Okay glad you are getting out there and running!!!  make sure you are lit up like a tree so the cars can see you!!  I found at Walmart a clip on light that goes on the bill of your cap and lightweight and you don't have to look like a miner!!!  that and reflective vest and reflective wristbands and a blinkie light at the back of my ballcap!!!  but I ran today in daylight so didn't need all of that.

I don't have new tights, darn it, they last forever!!!  and I have had these for ??? and no new gloves but also wanted to share this tip, y'all probably do it.. okay so down in the side straps of my sport top could be a GU, or Luna Bar, 1/2 PBJ whatever.... and then in the palm of my glove is my small phone and in the other palm I can fit in another GU, and then there is the key pocket and so I don't carry a waist pak as my trail has bathrooms and water fountains.  Even carrying a peppermint can prevent a bonk, so even if I think I am running 3ish miles, I always pack something cuz maybe I decide to run longer or even walk....  I can go 45' without any calories but most of the time my morning runs, my stomach is pretty empty cuz I still find I can't eat too much.. maybe a banana but that is about it.  girls I always carry my phone and hope you do too esp if by yourself

  • Beth--SO HAPPY YOU HAVE POWER!!!!! Watts will ALWAYS, now and forevermore, jump all over the place. Over time--and give it time--you will figure out how to meter your effort so you end up averaging what you need to. Some people look at average watts while they ride. I never do. I don't want to chase the watts, I want to FEEL them, and get there through RPE and my own body awareness. That's what I do anyway. You will also learn to see downhill as "watt killers." They used to be my friend, now you have to keep pedaling down them, and they still can mess up an interval but good!

Between power and the BF commitment, Beth is on a ROLL!!!!

Kristin--your whole biking world is about to open up in 3D! So excited for you. You're going to love it.

M--do you put your phone in a baggie? Careful the sweat doesn't short the thing out, then you have to get a new one.

K--you runnin' fool! I am so impressed with how you took this on. So much fun!

Ladies--when you don't remember, no big, but if you could try and remember to highlight and make the font a little bigger--at least in here, this sad, old, prysbiopic eyes would appreciate it. (Missing 3.0 still...)

  • yes I put the phone in a baggie, have already shorted out one phone and this little thing is no longer made!!  I don't have internet, pics or anything fancy!

the above is XX large!!!!  how is this Miss Linda??!!!

Top 10 Reasons You know you are a Triathlete:  (from the internet for a little laugh)

    1. You spend your 2 weeks annual vacation at a training camp.  (not two weeks but am planning on going to WI next July)

    2. You are up everyday by 5:00 am, but never in work before 9:30 am!   (ha ha)

    3. You think an Ironman is easier then a Marathon because you don't have to start by running fast.

    4. Nobody believes you when you say 'Never again'.

    5. During the vacations, when everybody else is partying, you go to sleep at 10:00pm because you're going for a long ride the next day.  (ha ha, so true)

    6. Your kids grab water bottles and energy bars when you suggest a family stroll.  (oh no!)

    7. You get done with a hard workout and drink a recovery drink while on the toilet and in the shower. (not yet)

    8. Your idea of a great b-day is to run your age in miles with a couple of friends.  (yes)

    9. You think it's natural to do your 'business' behind a tree in the woods. (

    10. You co-workers don't ask you if you're going to train this weekend, but how long and how far.

  • Guilty of 4,5, 8, 9, and 10.
  • HA! M, I am cracking up! Perfect!

    11. And you think that teaching someone how to pee in their pants on the bike is a perfectly normal topic of conversation!

  •  HA! Guilty on all accounts Marianne.  Except for # 6 since I don't have kids.  But Hubby does this- so maybe that counts?

#12- you take your computer with you on vacation so you can keep in touch with your online tri buddies
