Carrie is regularly on FB, and as of yesterday she spent most of the afternoon in an Adirondack chair in the sunshine on her porch. I think she did some sick--as in awesome--Mt Diablo climb. She's is beating it out. Of course, you would know this if you joined us on FB--elbow, elbow. Carrie, in a word, continues to be amazing.
Just had to drop in and show y'all this adorable dress my daughter picked out for the flower girls. TOO CUTE! Seems strange to have a daughter getting married when friends same age still have grade school age kids!

That beautiful! When is the wedding? I can't remember the date.
Tell me about the time warp in parenting! The doggie group I go to, some of the mom's are near to my age still dropping off elementary school kids. Nothing wrong with it, it's just that now there is no way to have any clear sense how old anyone is! Seems I was so very young by today's standards when I did all this.
Trying to reply to Linda Patch, I clicked the "thread" from receiving your posting via email. I was unable to open the picture of the "dress". But wanted to say I understand the age thing. I have a 35 year old son and now have 2 grandsons, I am 56, think I am in my early 40's. My brother though is 58 and still has a daughter in 9th grade so coaches her soccer and many other things. Speaking for me I was a baby having babies but the good part is sharing all this tri stuff with him. I love all your positive postings and thanks for joining my FB, sure look forward to meeting you in July. Again, I made my reservation at the hotel but not sure what else "to do". Clicking on the postings for Chica Cowgirls (hats, headbands and other topics) not sure how to include myself as a) I have never done an EN thing and b) not sure if I should be a silent reader or put my 2 cents in too! Just a newbie not wanting to cross over too quickly but can't tell you how excited that is going to be for me. Does anyone live anywhere near Orange County, CA in this forum. I have always trained alone and not sure how to check that out to try to hook up IN PERSON with some of you wonderful chicas??
PS having some problems posting in the last day or so, as I said I "click" the thread but end up in a much more "dated" area amongst the thread if that makes any sense........
One more thing about the date delay in posting, I just clicked the recent thread I was sent and it was dated Nov. 14, 2009 ( Marianne's post)....weird, anyone else having date/jposting thread issues??
June 12th and since her fiancée can't see here...... I'm getting daily text updates now - down to fittings and fine tuning. Meg has really done a great job of putting the whole thing together.
NOW I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And this is my "baby" girl
talk about age, I am down here in Panama City with HS and college kids dominating the place!!! everywhere!!! didn't know your daughter was getting married kris. will have pics soon b ut yes still freezing down here. and tomorrow!!!
Oh man, Kris, I could see the flowergirl dress but not the wedding dress. Grrrrrr. How exciting! You TOTALLY are WAY too young to be a "mother of the bride"!!!! Holy Crap!
Linda H- I haven't seen that date issue- but that is strange.
I know what Linda H means.... sometimes when I log into this thread it throws me to some random date a few months back. Right now it lands me in mid-November. It happens after I post a reply too. You have to click on the multiple chevrons in the page count box, and it gets you to the current page. It's stoopid, but it happens all the time. I jsut don't have the energy to 'splain it in the admin thread.
Felt really good this morning whacking out 1x10 and 1x12 on the bike. It's weird...I'm not in OS, not in HIM training, and certainly not in IM training. Just running and riding and swimming as I want until it's time to kcik it in for Moo. I've decided interrmediate goals will happen on a whim. The best thing fo rme is to just keep the single focus to get to the start line in Madison. That's what feels right, manageable in my brain, so that's what I'm going with.
Back to work!
You gotta love the image of m on the beach in a coat. I'd prolly be in shorts. Hope it warms up for you, m!
see Jan OS tng thread week 11 I think for more vacay pics!! you know there were college kids in shorts, but no kidding they had blue lips!! Hey I am losing my tan down here! and why did I search for new bathing suit! ??? I feel a lot better this morning as I got good sleep ,,,,, The cops are out patrolling the strip, kids are walking everywhere or driving and the whole place has a diff feel than IMFLA! duh but neat to see the city turn out for different events! sure a money maker but still. brings back memories of IMFLA. and still a favor of mine. well they all are! no coffee cups so drinking out of a glass! and well super lazy to go ride my bike out in the cold so I might not!! young kids are awake and two teen boys crashed out here in the LR! so I gotta put on my tights, I hate going back after I start shorts don't you? super slow moving this morning but hey I am on Spring Break!! I had a great week of tng last week and like Linda want to make it IMMOO in one piece.
want to give a shout out to IMSG peeps!! yours is getting close! way to go and can't wait for more reports on your tng, just because we aren't in the thick of it,please share the nitty gritty, cuz we are here for you and no detail is too trivial. right girls??
@Marianne - stay warm! I had a similar experience for my senior year HS spring break trip, being in FL and it was cold. Bummer...
just wanted to share that I successfully avoided Starbucks' free pastry day. Instead I went to my campus cafeteria for "coffee" and had a kashi granola bar. Not exactly the yumminess of a piece of banana chocolate chip heaven, but hey, I have to give myself a pat on the back for avoiding temptation. Particularly when I had dinner with an old friend last night and had a few glasses of wine and we split dessert. I'm actually looking forward to the 30/30s on the bike tonight to get me back on track!
oh, and I checked out the adamo (?) saddle that you all were talking about - that looks freaky... but I am totally intrigued and want to try it out. With 2 HIMs and my first IM this season I'm going to need to become one with my bike and I'd prefer to not be sterilized in the process.
Kris -- Pretty, pretty dress! And you are shopping for a seriously awesome mob dress? None of those sequiny things, right?
Becky -- I, too, avoided free pastry day at Starbuck's. But, um, am weak-willed and ended up with a ham and gruyere croissant from the local coffee shop. I am weak. But at least I'm indy weak.
And, if you are saddle shopping, you should check out the Cobb V-Flow series. And I think there's a good thread in the forums about it.
As a transition from the OS, I gave myself the beginner basic week set-up. What fun workouts! Last year, I hated basic weeks. This year? Love. I hope this means I will also love those upcoming Sunday ABP bike rides, which I didn't love last year. And I'm writing off the whole OS and calling this my Jan Ullrich year -- party in the off season, kick it up during regular play and show up ready to compete.
@Beth- actually it just happens my daughter was getting something out of my closet and ran across a pretty cream sundress with soft red flowers on it (her colors are red & white) so it fits perfect! Much relieved and can't even remember what I bought it for- only worn once. Ceremony will be outside so a bit more to casual side. A pair of cute sandals and I'm good to go.
Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong on Meg's dress photo..... it's in Smug Mug same as other pics. Any ideas? It really is pretty (although she's decided against the veil & tierra in the pic).
...And I'm writing off the whole OS and calling this my Jan Ullrich year -- party in the off season, kick it up during regular play and show up ready to compete.
Kris: I'm with Nemo---you are WAY to young to be mother of the bride! Nonetheless, you will be the hottest MOB ever! That is a darling flower girl dress, BTW.
Marianne: Hope it's warming up in PCB for you!
Becky: Hurrah for your triumph over pastry! I work in such a rural area that there are no Starbucks or bakeries. However, my temptations are in the form of fried food. Yikes!
Beth: I don't think eating Gruyere should count as a weakness. It's a sign of excellent taste! Besides, it's virtually irresistable. I'm writing off the rest of my OS too. Count me in with your Jan Ullrich plan!
Okay...get ready cuz Kitima's gonna whine: So I was sick with cold for the entire time I was in Argentina (17 days). I totally accept that all that hiking and running around prolonged my sickness and have no regrets. I've been home for almost 4 weeks and just cannot shake this lingering runny nose, cough, and now---this morning---a bona fide friggin' SORE THROAT complete with swollen glands in my neck! I feel sick as snot and for the first time in my 16 year career I'm taking this afternoon off because I'm sick. Wah! It finally stopped raining here and I really, really want to go outside and RIDE my bike in the SUNSHINE. However, I should be a smart bunny and sleep/drink alot of OJ. Poo!! The whining is now over.
On a brighter note, I am almost done with my vacation pics and report. Going through all the pics was such a great way to relive it. I've just been gushing about how breathtaking the mountain are, how much soul an elephant seal has, how other worldly is the beauty of a glacier, how angels are probably more like hummingbirds than babies with wings. Very John Muir! Hope y'all have a wonderful Wednesday!
oh no Kitima, the doc is sick... well you are gonna have to treat yourself! yes on taking off, doesn't sound good at all. can't wait for pics and yes I looked at my youtubes from Guat yesterday and relived those too! we are having a program this sat at church and I am delivering part of the pics for the slideshow! so that is why I am traveling back on Friday. another nice day predicted today at the beach andI am about to put on tightsand go run, one child awake so will have to dart. I am also sleeping as much as the 10 year old is so at home I seem to get up early cuz I need to and go workout but here I am going to bed later at 11 and then just sleeping with many wake ups, granted so 8 rolled on by and I sitll didn't get up til 8:15, I am calling it banking up sleep. probably still in deficit from mission trip and then most school days I am only getting 7 7.5 .... so that is how I am justifying my lack of training down here!! I am on vacay....plus the hotel coffee maker does not deliver the punch of caffeine. !!!! meanwhile back at home, Rudy ran with my DH and got a thorn in his padded foot so he has to go to the vet cuz he is limping when he runs! I also still have a spot from that guatemalan splinter so I can relate! I feel like a slug sitting here in my hotel robe drinking coffee out of styrofoam cup in the dark by the sleeper sofa while son sleeps! pitch black in this room but duh, in our room, bright daylight!!! cuz there is a door leading to patio so no wonder they aren't sleeping cuz it is light out there! well on to my day where being a adult is being in the minority!! just imagine the beaches of PCB littered with HS and college kids and everybody just walking up and down the beach talking to everybody, high fiving, laughing, talking, and the occasional guy picks up girl to throw in cold ocean water, and groups, nobody is by themselves, big groups of 5 - 10 people walking along the beach and the more the people draws even more with giveaways and sand volleyball and music. That is what it is like down here! smile.

GF- that's why they call it VACATION!
Kitma- rest up well! Hope you shake this thing soon!
Don't know if it sends an email when you edit a post. I finally got the pic of my daughters wedding dress to come through on the post. Forecast is high 60's & sun so I'll be chomping at the bit all day to get out & run. Pool still closed (since Mon) due to chemical imbalance (which I think is MOST of the time for this pool). So no swims thus far for me. May have to make a trip to Lville to get a swim in. Looks like rain tomorrow so may just flip the long run.... so it goes!
Kitboo- I hope you feel better soon. Those lingering colds are just aweful!
Marianne- I can just imagine you sitting in the dark hotel room with the blue glow of your PC illuminating your face and coffee cup! Poor Rudy, I hope his paw heals quickly so he can run with you when you return home!
My left calf is a little achy after my 3x10' run/walk yesterday. I'm trying to figure out if I should ice it or just roll it or what. I know I'm probably over sensitive about every little twinge going on there- but I just know something isn't right. Harumph!
Kitima, Captain Careful speaking. I know you are a doctor and all, but have you considered maybe seeing in internal medicine or EENT doc? Might be worth checking into. Believe me, I'm the last one to see a doctor unless something is really bothering me. You need to get well and stay there!
Marianne, it sounds like Rudy really did a number on his paw! Those thorns can cause all kinds of infection and trouble, so good for you for getting it checked out.
Nemo, I would be overcautious with that calf, too. You have come so far!
I finally listened to the women's phone call podcast this morning while running, and I'm even sorrier now that I missed it! I want to hang out with all of you friends, so I'm trying to finagle a way to get to that IMWI rally in July. We'll see...

Nemo- Know what you mean by being over sensitive, but smart as you are getting back. I react to the slightest twinge Last week, I had a flare, but immediately stopped and rested for a few days. I would say roll it then ICE it. I think that for me, I may have over done it by frequency. So backing down, will do a similar program you posted on injury forum. Do you think anything happened this weekend in MD? More hilly terrain? Hope it rights itself soon
Kitima- hope you are feeling better soon. Rest up, chicken soup
Kris- Loved the link you gave for Karen Dubbs flexible warrior blog. She lives in my area, thought about doing some seesions with her, but, have other things need to direct my money toward. Am starting to do those yoga workouts as a WU/CD. thanks for mentioning it.

+2 ,- Loved it Beth! Been pretty inconsistent in off-season- hoping have enough time to rack it up for Lake Placid. Beth also loved your Love poems to cobb V- flow. probably going to get one myself
Becky & Suzanne-( Nemo, next time you are in MD) we should get together for a ride. I am not that far away from you guys. In next few weeks, will start riding/ run walking the Columbia course. I am doing it this year, even if I have to run/walk the run course. No missed races for me this year.
Worked all last weekend during nice weather- With the nice weather had tons of trauma to traumaland. Yesterday,I was smashed. A little PSA- remind your loved ones ( especially young men) to wear their seatbelts! As much as I love doing trauma, I hate to see Spinal Cord Injuries, even more so when it could have been prevented by a seatbelt!
I am bouncing around an idea that came to me over weekend. We get anesthesia students that do 1 month rotations. Some come from out of state (PA & VA). One of the students told she was paying 700 to rent a room for the month. They are not even here the whole time. So I was thinking about rearranging my upstairs BR situation, and renting one of the rooms out to bring some extra cash in. Something I really have to think about though.
Have a good week everyone!
Oh - can anyone recommend a good video camera, not to expensive?
Kitima - welcome home... soooo sorry to hear you were sick on your vaca and can't kick it now. rest up! OJ, chx soup, sleep...
Beth - that croissant sounds yummy, so I can't say that I blame you...
I got on the scale for the first time since Friday today... after a weekend of eating out I didn't know what to expect and I feared for the worst. Not bad. Not great, but not bad. 6-8 from "normal," 8-10 from race... at least it's trending the right way.
Tracy - where are you? getting together to ride (when I can leave the pain cave that is my living room - I have a small condo) sounds great. I scratched Columbia because the deadline was up and I had to make a judgment call. I'm hopeful my hand will be better, but didn't want to risk it, besides, I'll be doing an abbreviated HIM plan to get ready for eagleman a few weeks later. Regardless, I will be there cheering - so I'll keep an eye out for you. Hmm... this will be a great place to wear the red EN shirt I got.
Nemo - be careful! and listen to your body - you've been following your plan so well... don't blow it now by being impatient! I know it's hard (believe me... as you know I just scratched a race b/c my ankle was tweaked... and I suspect that's because I did too much too fast, unlike you...)
I like the thought of trashing OS, but the coaches just confirmed my transition date - week 14 bike/11 run, which is only a few weeks away... from there I'll head into the last 6 weeks of HIM. I hoped to stay in OS longer, but in light of injuries since late Aug, my base isn't where it should have been so I think it's the right call to get my volume where it needs to be. I'll be run testing again next week, I think there's another bike test in week 14. I guess I use that number for HIM training, right. Hmmm, I guess I'll run test again that week, too.
Kitima--Docs have got to be the WORST at being sick. You have been sick-ish now for how long???? It's now morphing into a throat horror with glands swollen? You're still snotty? What would YOU say to a patient? Um, Z-pack in order, and--why did you wait so long???? LOL, GF! It makes me smile to be bold enough to diagnose a doc, but I think you need meds. Get better soon. That's no fun.
Nemo--go nutz! Roll AND Ice. LOL! Maybe some vitamin I. My PT used to tell me not to stress out if I took a little step backwards--and what you describe sounds like a little niggle. He used to remind me that you have to test things out. How else you going to know what you can do or not do? You didn't go crazy and run 10 miles. So just treat it well and keep moving forward.
M--I'm going to go warm up with some tea. Your coffee makes me want some. Hope Rudy gets better. Their paws are so vulnerable. Poor buddy.
I seem to be missing the "topic review" button! There are a few other things I wanted to comment on, now I can't see them. Darn this 4.0.
I had a nice 7 mile crazy windy run today. It was not my best outing by far--let's just say TP was ~30" slow, but that's all there was in there today. Ever onward. But it felt great to be outside even with the wind.
Thanks ladies- you are right Linda, it's probably a little niggle that is telling me to back down a little. I need to respect it but still move forward and not freak out! Man, I needed to hear those calming words!!
Becky- so glad to hear you hand is doing well! YEAH for outside riding, even if it is still on a trainer!
Tracy- we will certainly have to get together to ride when I'm in town next time!
Kris, the flower girl dresses and wedding dress are beautiful!!! I love them! I know what you mean. Who would've thought our kids would become adults? Thank goodness for that though.
Did my FTP outside today. SOOOOOO different from doing it on the trainer. I really had to focus to keep my power up on the downhill and never knew that if a huge yellow lab comes out onto the road after you you can top 350 watts. In the end, my FTP stayed the same at 165.
@ Nemo- go easy and treat it nice. Trust your gut if it's not getting better
@ Tracy- Glad your knee recovered. Hard to have a stranger in your space. That said, if it's trouble, they will be gone soon. But $$ is good.
@ Kitima- good advice above. Please take care of you!
Slept in this AM and was pleased to see gorgeous weather after work so went for the run I had skipped. I had naked arms and legs. But there wer cries of "my eyes, my eyes!!" as my stark white legs caused serious glare.
OK, when IMSG is done I'll be so much more up to speed with what's up with all of you. Thanks to my surprise spring snow day today (typical Denver spring snow) I'm feeling like a lady of leisure...well as long as you don't count the 2:30 long run....on the freaking treadmill. Decided to do the run today so I could sleep in tomorrow before work. That was the smart thinking. But in my zeal to get the run out of the way I started it early enough in the day that the snow was still covering the ground and the sun was just starting to peek through the clouds. Later in the day, the sun did its thing and melted most of the snow and drank up all the slush! Ah well, what're you gonna do. This is what I get for signing up for an early season race...or for not choosing to live in Tucson.
Sounds like there's lots of good advice being given for the sicknesses and knee and calf stuff. TAKE CARE!
WRT the weight thing....I'm in a different place right now due to where I am in my training. I am struggling with getting enough calories (I know, put down the tomato you're getting ready to throw my way). Seriously though, this always happens during IM build. My weight is steady, but my clothes aren't fitting well, and even DH says I'm looking too skinny. UGH! The good news is that hair and nails are healthy, menstruation is on schedule, and all those things that point to me being OK are OK. It's just an odd place to be. So tonight....I ate french fries! I know...terrible for race prep nutrition...but heck, I just ran freaking 2.5 hours on the treadmill!!!!
Olivia - I've put down the tomato... definitely be sure you're getting your calories! I know what you mean about the same weight but looking thin. Last Aug everyone I saw begged me to eat more, then we'd go to dinner and they'd see what I could put away and I think it horrified them. Funny thing is my weight didn't drop below my "race weight" (which is only 2-3 lbs lower than my standard weight) but everyone was convinced I'd become anorexic. Body composition is a funny thing. I'm hoping that when I ramp back up the weight I've put on in my forced off season will come off and my composition will change. Oh, and I never met a french fry I didn't like.
O--you're lean to race. Since I know so many people locally who run Bsoston, I have always noticed through the years when they get "that look." My neighbor came back from a run last year and I bet my DH he was marathon training. I had no idea, but he had the look. Sure enough! Eat as you should, and the amounts you should, and don't worry about it. I bet you look BUFF!

Looks like rain tomorrow so may just flip the long run.... so it goes!
Harumph!
Am starting to do those yoga workouts as a WU/CD. thanks for mentioning it.

...And I'm writing off the whole OS and calling this my Jan Ullrich year -- party in the off season, kick it up during regular play and show up ready to compete.
Becky- I'm in Baltimore
Root veggies for dinner! Yum!
