What It Takes...

  • Thanks for all your kind words! Doc are definitely the WORST as being sick. I'm going to the OR today to stalk an ENT and ask him what to do. I think antibiotics are inevitable. I really hate taking them---when I was a medical student, a really compelling Infectious Disease doc gave us a really compelling lecture about antibiotic overuse and how it leads to the development of resistant bacteria. I really, really took it to heart but at this point I'm done being sick and will give in.

Nemo: How is your calf this morning? That long crawl back to recovery makes me "tweak and niggle hypersensitive". Not a bad thing as long as it triggers the ice/roll/stretch/reset response.

Olivia: French fries...they are technically vegetables so they're good for you. image Those last few weeks before IM is a strange body comp place to be. I think there's alot of consumption of body fat stores with increased training volume.
  • okay so when i called home, DH had taken him to run on Monday and by yesterday? wed, they had to take him to vet, she had to put himunder and surgicallly remove said thorn or nail she wasn't sure as the abcess spewed pus and gunk across the floor. they the paw is wrapped up like a cast and has to be covered, on pain pills and antiobiotics and 260 dollars later and I have to take him in on monday!! husband was carting him to my mother in laws for dinner, so Joe had been saying what a baby he had been but the vet confirmed that he really was in a lot of pain!!! awww. my baby and I am not at home, so of course I say "well what about running?" oh no the vet said to take it easy.... oh no, I say what is he gonna do?? well sure enough... the three legged dog was beside himself and refused to come inside the house, of course he hadn't done his morning business without a run, and of course felt quite down so hubby relented and took him for a walk and Rudy ran three legged and got his tongue panted and then Joe forced him back inside the house. so by the time I get home, he should be feeling even more rambuctious. The Granddog... please note my college son is home and is trying to make money so let poor ole Dad pay for the vet bill. of course teh whoel family is worried about Rudy!! even Joe's mother! oh my. if it isn't a kid, it is a dog! he is used to running 4 - 6 miles or he is Rowdy and not Rudy!!!

I can't see the dresses. Kitima, yep you better take some meds, girl!!! and you waited weeks to tell us you were feeling sick, shame on you. big smiley face here....remember we have a GF pact to admit our pains so one of us can tell teh other to stand down so we can be fit for race day!! so Nemo no small pain is less important it helps to vent all of those so we can be more objective about our body!! cuz all ofus will push thru pain!!! and thus get injured lol.... or SICK!!! turkey, you better take some meds, or we will bop you over the internet!!

yep you are right KrisF, I am on vacay... so sleep is good and so is laziness!! I could get used to going to the beach everyday and creating more and more laundry!! more pics in Jan OS. well scooting off!! so when I get back?? I need to start training!! lol. unless I can take another trip right??? ha. looking forward to camp, I am targeting this. rightnow my right arm is hurting though, did I tell you? same pain as before tendonities brought on aggravated by carring around backpacks in Guatemala... I can't lift it, wakesme up in night and last time I got steroid shot in upper shoulder than took care of it. last Fall remember? so I am discouraged as my swim hurt last week so I didn't go back and I don't have full high arm rotation. I have not felt the piriformis even with 12 hours of driving so I get one thing better, and the other body part fails!! when I get in aero my arm is stuck there and it is painful to come up out of aero position! without an inward grimace. I am out of PT visits per insurance so will start what I know when I return and gonna take some Aleve too. I am waking up several times.. last night I decided to go back to doc and get another shot! that is why I went ot masters swim in the OS to correct my technique so this time it is not that.
  • Kitima – I hear you on the avoidance of antibiotics. Just this week I caught an NPR “Fresh Air” story about MRSA. This woman who’s written a book about MRSA and resistance of bacteria to treatment talked extensively about what you’re talking about. What’s so horribly frightening how this stuff has reached our food supply! Get your beef from grass fed cows girls. They’re happy cows and they don’t get treated en masse with antibiotics, so that stuff won’t get passed along to you and your friends and family just by eating a burger. (soapboxing done) Anyway, I’d say that since you have had this particular infection for soooo very long that it’s time to give in and do it. We know you’re heart and head are in the right place though.

Marianne – so sorry to hear about Rudy. Poor thing. We can relate to his frustration, can’t we?!

All of you Maryland area girls….next time I go home to visit my parents in Bethesda (I grew up in Rockville, but they moved) I’ll have to reach out to you…would be great to meet some of the chicas in person!

Kris – I can’t wait to see wedding pics…sounds like it’s coming together to be beautiful!

Good points on weight at this time in the training. It’s just what happens during this piece of the training. My current nutrition conundrum is what calories I can tolerate while running. I seem to not want anything during these EN style long runs because the intensity in the early part of them makes it tough to handle anything. That makes it hard to know for sure what will work on race day.
  • Kitima, so sorry to hear you've been sick! I second what everyone else has said, to get better! Glad you're going for it! Marianne, so sorry to hear about your baby! Poor thing! And, sorry to hear about your arm! Take it easy!!!
I am still fighting a sore left hip and lower back. Have a doc appt. but not until April 9th! Am going to request an xray and MRI if need be, as p.t. hasn't helped. So, I've been doing minimal this week, which is my transition week from OS. I don't know if I should take a second trans. week or not. I'm doing IMLOU Aug.29th, so am not certain what to do. I still have to try plotting out my season on that chart. I'm just not chart savvy, you know? I am swimming and doing some biking this week. I hope to do a VDOT test by running a 10Krace on Saturday. I am so scared that I will be slow and suck...Dont' know why, but I am scared to test my fitness. Is this a normal feeling to have, the first year training for an IM? I'm worried that I should be better than I think I am, and don't want to know how much more improvement I need. Also don't want anyone else to know how slow I am (feel I am.) does this make sense?
  • Ok, ladies, I have been lurker supremo of late, but I promise I've been keeping an eye on everyone.

Kit- It sounds like you are lonnnngg  for a round of abx. Get better!! Lots of training around the corner.

Marianne- Sorry about poor Rudy. You certainly understand his frustration with not running!! I hope he mends quickly.

Nemo- Report in on the niggle, please

Olivia- Ditto to what Linda said. Your body is just ready to race and you are probably ripped!!

Found out yesterday that Kris Frazier is going to ride with me up to Madison for MOO Camp. I am so excited to have company for the drive and an original EN Chica . She has already promised lots of camp songs for the road.

Little Belle is not so little anymore. Already pushing 25#!! She is fun, fun, fun and a total love.

It is raining today, so I will hit the trainer after work. Fortunately the weekend looks good!!!

Hope everyone is having a good day. I hate that topic review has disappeared !!!

  • Olivia- a few fries are not going to kill ya! Enjoy them, you probably need the salt!

Gina- is Su coming to camp? It doesn't sound like it and I guessed I just assumed she was (silly me). Ugh, that means I have to wait until IMoo to meet her!!!

M- pooooor Rudy! Your hubby is doing a great job caring for him while your gone. BTW- how is his dizzy stuff going? Is hubby getting better too?

Barb- We need Linda P to give you her "Ironmind" process to practice before your FTP. All those fears are totally normal. We've all been there! Ugh, the anxiety of testing is one of the reasons I just don't like to do it- I'd rather go do a race! You just gotta write down all those feelings on a piece of paper and then throw them out and then REWRITE how you WANT to feel about the test. Replace the bad with the good and carry those positive feelings with you into your test/race with you. In the end, just know that none of us cares how fast or slow you are (and in fact, there is ALWAYS someone faster and someone slower). We just value you for the positive vibe you bring to the group- no matter the speed!! BTW- I'm looking forward to folks like you being there on race weekend to support us all! It will be especially cool that you will have finished IMLou just a few weeks before and so you'll be totally into relaxing and recovery- not worried about getting in workouts too.

My calf feels much better today. I put on my compression sleeve and went out for a walk at lunch (it was just tooooo beautiful out to resist). Everything felt really good so I went ahead and tested it out with an easy jog knowing I'd shut it down if I felt anything twinge or talk. Great news is- I heard NOTHING from the calf. It happily did 15 minutes of running and then I gave it another 1 min walk break before trying another 15 min again. All good. I'm sitting here in compression socks and looking forward to the massage tonight. WHEW! I haven't been wearing the compression sleeve to run with but I think perhaps I'll start doing so just as a precaution for a little while. Thanks for all the words of encouragement folks- this has been a pretty frustrating time for me on the running front!
  • the dog is recovering and so is hubby but both still not 100%. the viral ear infec caused permanent damage in inner ear so he rode last week and was nauseous dizzy afterwards and still has serious drift on bike when he looks away from road. vestibular neuronitis or some such. he is running about 3 miles at a time but he liked riding better. anyways still an issue at our house and we have to factor in more rest and recovery and he still travels XXX and works XXX so there have been adjustments! and you can imagine that he has been bummed about not riding...or having the fitness he had built up last Fall.
so I froze at the beach and then it started raining so I started running! and warmed up nicely.. ran in swimsuit along the water's edge with the wind picking up and nobody out except for a few peeps and my children happily digging! sunglasses on to combat the wind and rain and just had some zen moments out there against the wind running! beautiful and then it started lightning, okay so we gotta pack up... drenched and dripping we walk back to our cars with multiple bags!! and my braids wicking water and then we went roller skating and being the good Mom I had packed dry clothes so off we trot to their bathroom! and they were finisihg a pancake breakfast in there and grace was hungry and yep good Mom,drenched in swimsuit cover up, dripping wet, asked sweetly if we could please have a pancake!! and Grace and I rollled it up like a tortilla and inhaled it and rinsed off our feet in the sink!! you can imagine....!!! and then roller skating!! I did in another black cover up dress!! so for sure I didn't want to fall down!! I don't even know how.. but I did for 2 hours! round and round and the rain kept a coming... now the sun is out and I am back in room!!! oh my. pakcing
  • Finally - I have a little time to catch up.... and things are busy busy as usual!!

Kitima -   I hope you get healthy and back on track soon!

Olivia - Eat girl eat!!! and some for me too please image

Nemo - I hope the calf does not present any more problems for you and hope it's doing better.

M - sorry to hear about Rudy and your DH and the inner ear stuff. So frustrating! Sorry your weather has been so lousy at the beach - that just stinks image

Kris - the dresses are awesome!!! and June 12 is an awesome day - my anniversary too image - just 11 years ago! Sounds like you and Gina will have a blast driving up to IMOO camp - I'd love to come to the Ville and meet you all for a meal if there is time on either end.

Sorry to all those that I have missed. It appears that although we can now do Add Reply again - the topic review is gone image - my memory just isn't that good!

Sorry if this gets a little lengthy from here on, but I want to share!!!

First, I had a WONDERFUL weekend in Boston! I got there last Friday and rode the train from Providence to Boston. My friend Carol picked me up and it was so great to see her again. We were the bestest of best friends in grade school, middle school and the start of high school and then I changed schools. Anyway, we are still compatible after all these years! We ate at some great restaurants (she owns a restaurant herself, but we just had a drink there so I could see the place), she drove me over to the expo on Saturday and coming across the river and seeing everyone out rowing was just beautiful. I spent the day helping at the EN table and looking around the Expo, did the video for the 2nd heat of the TT and had an overall GREAT time meeting everyone!! It was so nice to put real faces and voices with the names. Mike Graffeo gave us a little WKO lesson that was really helpful too. Then we had beers together - always good!! The best part of it all was meeting the other Chicas! Linda, Michele and Leigh. It was just so wonderful to connect in real life and like Linda said - it was just like picking up mid-sentence with old friends. It made me want to be at IMOO that much more!! Leigh couldn't hang around so she didn't make the picture, but here's the 3 of us anyway.

and here's a picture of me and Carol. Sunday we went for a drive and she showed me around. Took a lovely drive through the Forrest Hill Cemetery and then went for a walk in the Harvard Arboretum. This was taken up at the top of the hill and you could see a lot of Boston from up there! After she picked me up on Saturday we went for a drive downtown in Boston before dinner and we were driving up Beacon Hill and she said "this is the kinda neighborhood where all the rich and famous people live - like John Kerry" we turned the corner and there he was walking up the road with his daughter! You couldn't have scripted it any better - we laughed like crazy over that. I went back to Providence late Sunday afternoon and had a great dinner with friends sitting out on the deck of a restaurant looking out at the water! So peaceful and the food was wonderful! I haven't seen their kids in ages (they moved away from Lexington 4 years ago). She and I spent all day Monday together catching up. Just a PERFECT weekend in everyway! Oh, except for that my oldest came down with Chicken Pox the day before I left!!!!  but that's a whole different story

Ok - last thing - went to the Neuro Surgeon on Tuesday and they started me on some new medication for my hip/back deal. It is specifically for nerve pain and he said to give it a week or so and if I was feeling better slowing ease back into some biking and running and see how it goes. I go back to see him April 20 to check on things again - so I'm feeling good about that. image. Back to the pool tomorrow - haven't been for a week - why does being gone for 4 days equate to 8 days of catching up? 2 days before I left for Boston though I got the bullett on another matter - need to have a hysterectomy. I knew it was coming and I have successfully been putting it off for a long time, but can't put it off til the end of the year as I had hoped so that is scheduled for May 12. Right between all my dogs being done with their training and going homeand my kids getting out of school for the summer. So Memphis in May is no more and I think I'll just hope to make the Muncie Aquabike, go have fun and cheer on all my buddies doing the 1/2. If I make it and feel ready I'll race otherwise I'll just be Sherpa extrordinaire! I am kinda liking the idea of swimming and then just getting out and hammering a flat bike course and not having to worry about what's left at the end. So now I am looking at Longhorn 70.3 at the end of October as my A race, but I haven't entered yet. We shall see image

  • Thanks for pics, Robin! It's always fun to see pictures instead of just of the little thumbnails we all post of ourselves!

    Feeling any better today, Kitima?

Glad the calf feels better, Nemo! I'm sure it might have had something to do with the extra vitamin D from the sun!

Anybody just catch the SU game?

Enjoying this 1st week of transition...getting a little extra housework done and getting ready- my stint as spinning instructor starts next week!
  • M- I'm sure that your hubby is bummed about how he feels with the inner ear stuff. Hopefully he can look at all the things he can do, embrace those things, and then start seeing additional improvement as he does so.

Robin - Love the pics! Looks like you had a great trip and that the weather was pleasant! I'm sure that was one of those long weekends that felt like a week+ vacation!

Gina & Kris - your trip to the camp is going to be great! There better be some good road trip pics outa that one! image

Gina & Kris - your trip to the camp is going to be great! There better be some good road trip pics outa that one!

All I got to say is.....

100 bottles of gatorade on the wall, 100 bottle of gatorade... take one down, pass it around... 99 bottles of gatorade........

  • And Kris is my camp roommate! Hooray! (You're in luck. I bring the french press and Trotter's granola.)

Everyone else? Hi! What cool stuff is going on for your weekends?

This is has been my week of eating. It is Chef's Week in Chicago, so I finally tried Spring, which has a James Beard award-winning chef and is in an old turkish bath house. $30 for three courses. Considering most of the entrees are around that range, this was an unbelievably good deal. The food? Solid. Chef definitely has a good fish guy. Dessert? Meh. Except for a tiny bit of brown butter ice cream that was the best ice cream ever.

Last night, I went to Chilam Balam, which is a hot, new mexican restaurant run by very, very young people. One of the best meals of my life. They serve mostly small plates and I was with a large group, so we ordered most of the menu and shared everything. These were my favorites: Corn masa memelas topped with smokey black bean puree, goat cheese, arbol chile salsa and dressed greens. Grilled hanger steak in guajillo sauce, roasted potatoes, crispy onion and cilantro Ceviche of Ahi Tuna, tossed with Meyer lemon juice, tangy tamarind, red onion, toasted pasilla chiles, sweet lily bulbs, hoja santa and black radishes; toasted sesame seeds. Earthenware cazuela of queso fundido: melted cheese, lamb chorizo, poblano chiles and Mexican oregano, fresh tortillas to make tacos. And hibiscus flan. I'm so happy I don't know how to make it and this place has about a two-hour wait time and doesn't take reservations; otherwise I would eat it every day.

It was also potluck day at work yesterday. I work with lots of serious foodies. Too much good to ignore.

This is how I live it up on rest weeks. But Jan Ullrichness is over soon.  R is sending me back to a slightly supersized version of the OS until High Cliff in June. First thought? Tantrum. I've been in OS mode since November and it is time to be DONE. Second thought? Seriously sane plan. Only one long bike on the weekend? Cool beans. I'm totally hacking in Thursday morning long run because that's my favorite workout.

  • Robin - your trip to Boston sounds wonderful! That whole expo dealie must have been a blast. But, a hysterectomy? Yuck! At least it's soon so you won't have to dread it for very long.

Gina and Kris, y'all are going to be two gals and a ton of trouble. What fun! And it's time to see some more Anabelle pictures!

Kitima, feeling any better? Rest for you this weekend!

Olivia, how is the training going? Are you snowed in? Only a few more weeks!

Nemo, glad to hear the calf is doing well.

Beth, it sounds like you're a big foodie. Me, too! Those restaurants sound amazing. I'm so lucky that Houston, like Chicago, has so many fabulous restaurants. I have to limit myself to a couple of times a month or I'll exceed my caloric and financial limitations!

    Everyone else I forgot, sorry!

Nothing big on tap for me this weekend. I have a 3 hour ride on Saturday and a 2 hour ride on Sunday with a 30 minute brick run - after those, it's all gravy! Maybe dinner at one of those aforementioned restaurants...

    Have a great weekend, ladies!
  • Robin-I'm so glad to hear your getting some pain relief and a chance to ease back into run/bike. But Boooooo on the hysterectomy! Crappy timing huh!? But it will be great to have you at IMoo to be an EN Chica Sherpa!

Beth- OMG, how many lbs did you gain eating all of that? WOW! Sounds like major indulgence. You sure do know how to relax! Remind me to take lessons from you at Cowgirl Camp!

  • How is it almost April already??

Okay- I had lots more to say and now that I can't find the topic review thing....I can't remember.  Back to lurking I go.

  • Ohhhh, Beth- it would be so nice to be in your shoes with all that wonderful food !! The chef at our fav place, here in Chattaboogie, was a Beard nominee for this year. Since we only eat out once a week, we choose to spend our $$$$ with him.

Sooooo glad it is Friday. I think Su and I are going to do pizza and watch basketball.

Here is an Anabelle video and a few photos. She is growing so, so quickly!! In the video I am working with her to  "go to her mat". All the while Indie is, well, a bit of a distraction...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU5E0J4UWB8

We need a "double dog door" now!!

Both asleep under the coffee table.

    Everyone have a great evening!

  • G--Whoohooo!!!! Lookie that focus on that adorable puppy! Super job! Scott will tell you that focus is the foundation of everything. When you have their focus, the teaching of anything goes so much faster. We are making some super strides in recall--even under great distractions. Today, she and her play buddy Moxie took off through the trees out of site. I called her back,  she tore herself away and came like a shot! It was great. Now we have a new challenge of her barking at people. She's a work in progress--aren't we all? image

Robin--that's big news about the surgery. Looks like the back will resolve, so that's great to hear. I think the Aquabike would be PERFECT. That's why I love that offering. For people who can't. or don't want to do the run, what a perfect event. I'd definitely keep it in mind.

I am happy to report that I seem to have two new running friends! We've been meeting the last few Fridays, and it's working out well. Y'all know how I train by myself, so this is welcome company. I have to make sure it's a recovery/frequency run, because I am MUCH faster (even at my paltry pace) with a ton more endurance. But it keeps me at my LR pace, and there sure is a place for that. We only run about 30-40', so it's a perfect frequency outing.

WHERE'S TOPIC REVIEW????? Now I forgot all the important things I have to say!

  • Gina- that is amazing! I can't get over how smart she is! But I must admit, all I keep saying as I watch the video is "Oh Poooor Indy"!!! You kick the ball for her every now and then, she runs and grabs it and brings it back. What does she get? The ball kicked again. Meanwhile Anabelle is getting all this loving! I seem to have a soft spot for the underdog. Hmmmmm, there's probably a reason for that!

HAH!!!!!    You assume Indie is the underdog, and that is sooooooo far from reality. She would play ball like that until her paws were little, bloody nubs. Don't you worry, she gets her chance with the "Chuck It", which is a ball launcher of sorts.

There is a method to my madness. As Linda said, it is all about focus. Belle's focus is quite good with the distraction of Indie. The more I can get of that, the better!! So, Indie gets a ball toss and I get to work with Belle.

  • Gina: Love, love, love the Annabelle pics! She's such an obedient puppy!
Robin: Hysterectomy...I'm hoping that it will result in a resolution to your hip and back pain! Hear's to a quick recovery!!
Beth: Brown butter ice cream and hibiscus flan...YUM!
Marianne: Safe travels coming home. Sorry to hear about your husband's vestibular neuritis---hope it gets better soon.

So yesterday I called down to the OR looking for my ENT pals. I'm told they're finishing up a thyroidectomy so I tell the OR nurses I'll be down to talk to them soon. The OR nurses tell the ENT's that I'm coming to see them because I went to Argentina and caught some illness and really need their help. By the time I get down there to talk to them, they've come up with all kinds of exotic South American infectious head and neck problems I could have. I felt quite sheepish telling them I simply had a lingering cold. I'm on Amoxicillin now. Slept for 12 hours last night and spent today finishing up my vacation report (it's in The Club House forum). Here's a link to the pics: http://kitboo.smugmug.com/Other/Argentina-2010/11508781_C8Q3o#809978199_vX2nd
  • @Gina- Love the video! Annabelle is amazing!I love dogs, especially well trained dogs. But we all know- poorly trained dogs means bad owner, not bad dog. You are awesome too!

@Kitima- glad you are taking care of yourself. That is a typical doc response (as you know), but still funny. Folks love zebras.

@Beth- Um, what didn't you like at the Mexican place? That was such a funny read. Sounds yummy.

@Robin- Hope the medication helps the back/hip problem and no surgery is needed. Good luck with the hysterectomy. Hope you can enjoy a part of the season. Thanks for posting the picture. I can not believe I am that short! But Nemo is shorter! hahaha

@ all- Is it bad that I never even noticed the "topic review" button? So now that it's gone, I can't say I miss it :-)

Have been having multiple episodes of neck pain. Seemed to come from out of the blue as I have changed NOTHING. Monday massage helped a lot, but I slept 10 hours last night and woke up with pain. I know it is all spasm and soft tissue, but I can not figure out the trigger. I am stretching chest, back, neck; using heat, self massage with tennis ball, and have broken down to take NSAIDs, Tylenol, and muscle relaxer. It helps, but I am scheduled for another massage. I haven't had it this bad for several years. Not fun, but also not slowing me down, although I have cut back on push ups.

    Hope eveyone enjoys the weekend.
  • Michele, take care of that neck!

    have a great weekend everybody!
  • A bottle of wine Michele! You need good wine!
  • I LOVE THOSE DOG PICS!! Such cute fuzzy velvety noses!

Linda I dig that you've gotten so far with Cali. Impressive. She seems to really get it. There are so many people that I encounter that wish/hope/imagine that there dog knows recalls and can execute. Wrong-o. Especially when there is a runner about.

OK Kris (and Gina) you've signed yourselves up for a travel recording of your singing!

More snow and wetness this PM...so in I will be for my long rides this weekend. Well, maybe not Sunday. It might be 56 on Sunday. We'll see, it may just be easier to stay in.

Kristen, thought of you this AM during my run when my iPod shuffled to Lyle Lovett's "That's Right, You're not From Texas." I have a secret wish to be doing Lonestar with you. I will always have a soft place in my heart for that race! Home of my HIM PR cuz it's so flat! And a general love for racing in TX thanks to having had a good race in Lubbock in '07 at Buffalo Springs....as the song says, "but, Texas wants you anyway."

  • Gina - it is so WONDERFUL to see someone working with their young dog like that! I wish I could explain to people in a way that they can understand that the earlier you start the better it all goes - having a clean slate to work with is a chance you only get once. That said - you obviously "get it" and how to work with a dog - it really makes me SMILE! Belle is lucky to have you and Su image. I had one of Esther's littermates come for evaluation on Thursday and it kinda made me sad - this little guy is just an awesome puppy, but has been allowed to run absolutely WILD - he was like a freaking junebug on a string while on the leash. The guy that owns him really means well and is such a nice man, but just doesn't "get it". Luckily he's coming back for obedience training and then gun dog training, but there is nothing I can do to replace that daily one on one benefit that you illustrate so well in that video with Belle!

here's a fun little video for all the doggie lovers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkPNa4DBFHI

Sorry you have to ride inside Olivia, but it sounds like your doing well! I hope your in a good place with all the training and preparing for IMSG. That great RR had to help so much!

Nemo - must have confused you with my Sherping description. I meant that if I can't do Muncie(same weekend as IMOO camp) I'll go support the gang there since I kinda started that fire I feel like I have to follow through. There is a group of about 10-15 from our area going and I am responsible for talking many of them into it - so I better be there! At one point I really truly considered trying to do IMOO, but when I saw the date I knew there was just no way in the world - so I won't be at the race either image. It probably wouldn't have been a good choice for me this year anyway given all that's going on physically with me, but I sooooo would have loved to come cheer you all on!!!

Well, soccer season is officially upon us! 3 games this weekend and I had better get rolling. Loved starting my weekend by going on Kitima's trip to Argentina - all while sitting at my desk with a cup of coffee image. Thanks for all the well wishes on the surgery! I think as long as I am smart and don't try to get back at it too soon I will do fine - they might be peeling me off the walls at the end of two weeks though! My Dad is a retired OB/GYN as is my friend & training partner Jenny so I have had lots of good support and advice on all of this. I am going to try to go for an easy easy bike ride today - it is supposed to be up in the mid 60's today!

Hope everybody has a great weekend! Oh, and go see How to Train Your Dragon - even if you don't have kids to use as an excuse - it's AWESOME!!!!
  • Wow....you ladies are all so busy. Kit, hope you are finally feeling better! The dogs are so cute and I'm jealous of your food Beth...I'm on one small carb...one small protein six times per day.....scale is finally going down some. I will be HUGE at Oschner and I don't mean in a rock star kind of way. No pics from there but maybe a couple with my birth father who I will meet for the first time on the trip. I will be ripped and lean by IMWI though.....I'm in the groove. Biggest hurdle was diet soda. I can't even tell you how much diet soda I drank. As much diet soda as coffee for a seriously addicted coffee drinker. I'm convinced that besides menopause that was the biggest thing keeping me from succeeding in weight loss. SO interesting what is happening. I don't eat NEAR the volumes of food that I did and I seem to be really feeling a lot better. A couple of years ago our youngest did a science project where she checked blood sugar before and after drinking a regular coke and before and after drinking a diet. Of course everyone's blood sugar went up a at least a little with the coke but with the diet...everyone's blood sugar went down. So, after some looking around at information, I think that the drop in blood sugar made you want to eat more. So the medical people in the Chicka Haus can tell me but if I drank TONS of diet soda (which I did :-( ) would that keep my blood sugar at an artificial low all the time causing me to over eat all the time? I think that was the deal. It's only been 7 days but I'm pretty darn excited that except for a momentary lapse at Super America getting a fountain soda, I'm off the aspertame. Yay!!

OK...I need to be better about keeping up with the posts. I get so behind!
  • Robin- Thanks for the kudos re: Belle!! The training is fun and SO rewarding when they "get it". Sorry you have surgery looming, but I have to tell you, having my hysterectomy was a great day for me. FWIW, I was back on the road in 6 weeks.

Linda- PLEASE do a video of Cali. I would love to see her recall work!!

Kit- Your Argentina pics are OUT OF THIS WORLD!! So, you took 20# of camera equip and were limited to a total weight of??

Michele- Hope the neck improves and soon!

Olivia- Recording of moi' singing??? NO MA'AM!! Maybe Kris. How are you feeling? Two weeks 'till taper?

Sheryl- Back away from the soda can!!

Su is on call today, so I am watching women's basketball, cleaning, and doing laundry. Everyone enjoy your weekend!!

At one point I really truly considered trying to do IMOO, but when I saw the date I knew there was just no way in the world - so I won't be at the race either . It probably wouldn't have been a good choice for me this year anyway given all that's going on physically with me, but I sooooo would have loved to come cheer you all on!!!

Robin--Let me know if you do race Muncie.  It's my A race, which is why I can't do the IMOO camp.  We can at least commiserate together!
  • Robin- no worries, I probably was the one getting confused! We know that the Chicas who won't be physically with us are going to be with us in spirit (and following along online) all day. Trust me, knowing you and others are "watching" me every time I cross one of those timing chip matts will give me energy!

Linda- I agree with Gina, we need Cali video!!!

Sheryl- WOW, meeting your birth dad for the first time? That's major stuff. I swear some of this information just flies right over my head at times, how did I miss that news? When is that trip!?

I had a great ride this morning with my OBX crew, including Val- a super gal (and REALLY strong rider) who just had appendix surgery. She's on the comeback trail now and can still kick my ass! It was 40 degrees with 20mph winds this morning but the sun was out and the ride turned out to be just awesome. I'm sooooo glad I didn't back out due to the weather! Only problem now is the data isn't downloading from the PT Computer to my PC. It gets half way through the download and then I get this funky error message and the whole thing craps out. Time to search to forums- I know someone has had this problem before!

Olivia - I've put down the tomato... definitely be sure you're getting your calories! I know what you mean about the same weight but looking thin. Last Aug everyone I saw begged me to eat more, then we'd go to dinner and they'd see what I could put away and I think it horrified them. Funny thing is my weight didn't drop below my "race weight" (which is only 2-3 lbs lower than my standard weight) but everyone was convinced I'd become anorexic. Body composition is a funny thing. I'm hoping that when I ramp back up the weight I've put on in my forced off season will come off and my composition will change. Oh, and I never met a french fry I didn't like.

Ok girls....I live for the day that someone says to me.."Wow...you look thin....you should eat more."
