I am Tracy Wood. I was part of team EN a few years back. I have completed 3 Ironman, I think 7 or 8 70.3 and two many olympics and sprints to count. I am coming off a string of injuries. Most notable was a bad whiplash injury for an mVC in 2014.Then some other niggles from tying to come back to running too soon.
I purchased the out season plan to focus on getting some bike fitness back first, as I gradually build up my running. I will be volunteering at IMAZ so I can sign up for next year. I live in Phoenix, AZ. I am still working on my plan for next year, but as of now, Desert classic Duathlon, ?sedona 1/2 marathon, various sprints and Olympic tris, ? Boulder 70.3, Tempe 70.3 and IMAZ
My name is Steve, I live in Portland, Oregon. I'm turning 50 next month, been doing sprint and Olympic length triathlons for 10 years. I attempted my first Ironman this year at Coeur d'Alene, and "only" made it 125 miles. So, I am looking at Endurance Nation to help me with my training and nutrition plans, and advice from other members to get me thru the last 15 miles.
I am signed up for Ironman Vineland and half ironman St. George next year.
Hey there, My name is Justin Perry, I'm 41 and I live in Olympia WA. I thought I would give the triathlon thing a try when I turned 40 and I have completed 3 sprint races and 1 Olympic race so far. My goal this year is to complete my first HIM and I have signed up for IM Victoria 70.3 in June and, if possible, I also hope to complete the ChelanMan 70.3 in July. I am definitely excited about joining EN and I look forward to being a part of a great team.

Hey, Justin, welcome. We've got quite a crew in the South Sound. Mark Maurer (Olympia), Robin Sarner (Tacoma) and Jenn Edwards (Black Diamond) all just got back from Kona. They;d each been working YEARS to get there, so very fulfilling for them, and a good demonstration about the power of patience, consistency, determination, and the EN model.
Hello! My name is Jeff, I'm 43 and just came off IM Louisville (my second full). I have been stalking the podcasts and have been waiting to finish LOU to see the results, then pull the trigger to join EN. Im excited to learn from you all and take the step to the next level!
Hello everyone, my name is Bruce Read and I am just beginning my journey at 54 and have never competed in any race or have been a swimmer, cyclist or runner. Just started my second week with a bike and then run. Ran 20 minutes and then 3 x 20" but my calf muscles would not relax and were very tight throughout the entire run. Any suggestions to help with this?
Bruce - it must be a shock to your system to start tri-training at 54 with no history as a single sport athlete in any. Sounds to me like you just need to progress at a very easy rate the first year in the sport. And remember that your muscles will adapt much faster than tendons. So you really have to listen to your body this first year in the sport to avoid injury at all cost. Finally...a foam roller can be your friend. Get one and use it. Good luck.
Hi everyone, I'm Dustin from New York City! I'm totally new to tri's, but I have been running marathons since 2013. I've signed up for the Florida Ironman in November 2017, I'm *super* pumped.
During the day I'm a Software Engineer for Instagram, I work on their iOS App. Aside from that I love movies and I play with the drums. I was actually introduced to this group by a fellow EN member I met a drumline gig for the New York Giants Drumline.
I am posting something because it said "post something to break the ice." :-)
I am 42, mother of two little-ish kids (4 and 6), a music teacher, and I decided to start exercising a few months after my daughter was born. Introduction to the world of fitness? An inflatables/obstacle mud run for women (Dirty Girl) in March 2013. I had a blast and decided to do a stand-alone 5K a few months later, where I ran my first mile - ever in my life - without taking a walk break. Bought a road bike, then decided to sign up for a sprint triathlon. Loved every second. That was 2013. I learned to swim in 2014, completed B2B Full as relay rider, completed two 70.3's in 2015 and trained for/completed IMNC this year.
So now what? I want to become a more efficient athlete and I want to complete a 70.3 next year where I leave it all out on the course. I get a little too comfortable doing what I know I can, and not enough time searching for limits... and subsequently crushing them. I also need to figure out nutrition, as I have been one of those people who gain weight from endurance training. Or maybe that's from IPA and french fries, the jury is still out. I need a lot of work on my swim, as I've gotten to the point where I can beat the long course cut-off, but that's about it. And I am a lazy runner - I admit it.
Last - I have dedicated my last two seasons to my friend Andrea Peet who is living with ALS. I raise funds for the Blazeman Foundation and will start to do work to benefit the newly-founded Team Drea Foundation. Really - racing to me is about a healthy lifestyle, doing something for "me," raising awareness for ALS, and spending time with training friends.
Heather: what an icebreaker! Welcome to the team, and i look forward to your progress as the Team EN coaches, staff, members and mojo is truly awesome...the best! A ton of amazing resources and lots of inspiring team members eager to asssist on top of great coaches, going beyond your expectations is there for the taking. I look forward to seeing you around the forums and maybe some races and crushing it. Welcome to the team!
My name is Brian, 43 years old, and I live in the thriving metropolis of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. And no, thats not how you pronounce it. Not really all that sure what to say here. So quick overview, former fatty now fit. Got crazy one day and signed up for Ironman Maryland 2015 the day it opened. Problem. Didn't own a bike and hadn't rode one in 30 years. Hadn't been in a pool in 20. And had never ran more than 13 miles and had only done that once. Thus bike shopping and starting to swim happened. Fast forward. Ran two marathons leading up to IM Raleigh 70.3 (figured I should try a Tri before a full IM), did a sprint for fun, then another 70.3 in August, and then the storm delayed IM Maryland. Did it all self coached with random stuff found on the internet. Backed off in 2016 to focus on other things that needed attention but did on marathon and 70.3. PR'd the 70.3 by 32 minutes (5:03). Was planning on doing IMNC in 2017, but we all know what happened there. I figured it was probably time to join a team and get coaches that know what they are doing and can make me the best triathlete I can be. And after listening to a ton of the EN podcasts, I was sold. So here I am.
My race schedule so far for the year is the Krispy Kreme Challenge on Feb 4th (Run 2.5 miles, eat a dozen donuts, run 2.5 miles), Myrtle Beach Half Marathon March 4th, White Lake International April 22nd, IM Raleigh 70.3 June 4th, Triangle Sprint Tri July 15th (I think), and IM Chattanooga September 24th. Might throw in IMNC 70.3 in October just for fun. Who knows.
I'm not very smart, I do a lot of stupid stuff (that will surely be talked about in the forums, like powering long runs and races with vodka), I vape like a freight train, but I put in the work and try to be as serious as i can about my training. Work hard, play harder.
Hello everyone! My name is Ed Aponte and I am new to the team. I'm a single dad of three awesome kids and have been doing triathlons for 12 years now. I have ran long distance courses since I was 16 years old. I completed my first Ironman in Louisville on 2012 and again on 2014. Did IMFL in 2015 and just completed IMAZ this year. I have signed up for IMAZ again this year. My goal is to keep improving and some day end up in Kona. I joined the team because I want to learn more about what I should/could be doing to improve my performance on race day and keep me doing the sport that I love. I'm volunteering again this year for Smile Train which makes it more than just about me. I look forward to soaking up all the wisdom this team has to offer!
Hi, everyone. My name is Alicia Chase. I'm from upstate NY, about 45 miles from Lake Placid. I'm 57, married, one adult son, and a Tech teacher in K-5. I've done IMLP once, Syracuse 70.3 three times, and Timberman 70.3 once, as well as numerous sprints and olympics. I've done two marathons--NYC and Mohawk Hudson, as well as a bunch of half marathons, 10ks and 5ks. Cycling is my favorite and my strength. Also love to run. Taught myself to swim 10 years ago, and it's still my weakest sport. I love being outdoors. Training is fun for me <img src='http://members.endurancenation.ushttp://members.endurancenation.us/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif' align="absmiddle" border="0" class="afEmoticon" /> My family and job are very important, so balancing this busy life is a challenge at times. My job dictates that I race triathlons during the summer only, and I try to maximize that time. I'm doing Mont Tremblant 70.3, IMLP, and Lake Placid 70.3 in 2017. I've always been self-coached, but life is getting so I need to get something off my plate, but still want to have achievable race goals. So far, liking everything about EN. Looking forward to a fun season with all of you.
@ Heather - sounds like you are getting sucked into the vortex. Good for you! It's a lifestyle and we are here to help. @ Howard - living in Hawaii must be awesome! @ Brian - I am in fear of the Krispy Kreme challenge! Meanwhile, prove you are serious and cut back on the vaping. @ Ed - there is a wealth of knowledge in the Team. You have high goals...soak up the wisdom and put it to work. @ Alicia - I am also an AOS. Coach Rich and Mike Roberts are two of the most knowledgeable on swimming. Mike put out a thread earlier in the year on how he made a big swim improvement. Search for that if you want to learn more.
Brian here, in Chicago, going through week two of the trial period now and contemplating next steps. I am currently looking out of the office window at Lake Michigan on an unseasonably warm and foggy day (53f), thinking if I will get out of here before the temps drop to single digits overnight, fun fun! Hope to complete my first (of many in the future) long course race at IM Louisville, and like most people, doing it while juggling family obligations, work and travel schedules.
Hi, Tom here from Michigan. New Trial member, looking to get a different prospective on training. I am a third year triathlete and member of a the Lifetime Tri Team locally. I will be doing my first Ironman in Wisconsin later this year.
Hey everyone, I'm Todd from Carrollton, Georgia. I'm new to triathlon, having only participated in a couple of sprint distance events last fall. Like many, I immediately loved the sport. I began primarily as a runner and began cross training on the bike last summer. I was able to survive the swim in the sprints, but immediately knew I wanted to improve. Coming out of the water on my last sprint event I decided I would never do a triathlon again. When I finished the run of that same event I decided to register for Chattanooga 70.3!
My main endurance goal last year was to run my first half marathon. I ran two last year and entered the triathlon world. This year I'm hoping to do two 70.3 events and run my first full marathon as well. If all goes well 2018 will be the year of the full Ironman.
I've been curious about Endurance Nation for a while now and look forward to giving it a shot.
Hi All - very excited to be joining the team! I'm a 28 y/o actuary and tri-newbie (and Canadian!) living in Hartford, CT. I come from a "running background" (not the fastest out there but I like to think I have the most fun!) but have had a triathlon in mind for over 10 years now. I'm training for the Olympic distance Quassy Rev 3 in CT in the spring and the Prilgrimman Half Iron in Plymouth, MA in the fall of this year.
Thought that joining EN would help with work-life balance (not having to plan out training, etc.) and help me to climb up the tri-learning curve faster than training on my own.
Hi All - I am a 29 year old tri-newbie. I decided last year, after a few months of thinking about doing a triathlon, to sign up for one. I signed up for the Ironman Lake Placid 70.3 in September. I also have a few sprints lined up to. I have been running for a few years now, and have a little experience on the bike but swimming is completely new to me and has humbled me thus far in my training. I am looking forward to being a part of the EN Team and taking my training to the next level.
@Daneen Cardiff & @Kyle Mongold welcome to the Haus. EN will definitely help you achieve your goals. There are a great number of really smart people here. Lots to take but don't be afraid to ask questions.
I'm Mark and live in northern Colorado. This past year was my first year in triathlon and I completed one Sprint and two Olympic distance races in Loveland and Boulder. In 2019 I'd like to train for and complete a half Ironman distance race - either Ironman 70.3 Boulder or Harvest Moon.
I work in healthcare and am also going to school part time.
I'm Janyne and I live in Apex, North Carolina -- near Raleigh. I have been doing triathlons since 2010 and just completed my seventh full. I told my husband that I'm not doing a full next year (somehow I made hotel reservations of Choo 2019 though -- how did that happen?). Right now, I'd like to change up to a run focus and do the Myrtle Beach Marathon in March. Then I was thinking Kinetic Half in May, Lake Logan in August, and something else -- Augusta? Toughman SC? B2B?
Last May I did the Kinetic Half and I loved it! I saw that the former Rev3 Williamsburg was moved from July to May so that could be a possibility as well. I was not interested in a July race in Williamsburg but May could work.
@Janyne Kizer A little late in replying. Looks like a full year even without Choo. There are lost of great resources in the house including the run focus, run durability, marathon plans and information on working in a marathon to the mix.
The end of the out-season calls for a 10K or 1/2 marathon test which won't dent schedule as much with recovery for the may 1/2.
