Thank Leslie... I heard the winds were ridiculous in 2012. They were more cooperative in 2013, but the run was smoking hot! BTW, 2014 registration has been full for several wks. Hopefully you have some inside connections!
Hello, my name is Mark, and I live in Denver Colorado. At 51, I am still a very amateurish triathlete, having done about 10-15 multi-sport events, mainly sprints and Olympics, one half-ironman about 5 years ago (5:55ish if I remember correctly...). I am planning on doing my and Colorado's (I think?) first ever Ironman on 3 AUG 2014 in Boulder. I am a physician, Colonel in the Colorado Army National Guard, father of 2 young kids, an even more amateurish carpenter, and thus have tons of free time for training (am actually looking forward to the "economies of training" that EN can offer). EN comes highly recommended to me from a number of successful ironman triathletes who know me and my schedule well. I am just recovering from an inconvenient but necessary right inguinal hernia repair (4 weeks ago), but seem to be taking to training once again without any hitches. I am excited about my first-ever Ironman, and am looking forward to seeing what EN offers.
Hello, Mark, welcome to EN! I'm just south of you in Parker and i have been with EN for about the last year and a half. Great group of people and VERY knowledgeable on all things tri related (and lot's of things non-tri related as well). I'm also doing IM Boulder along with the half. I suggest you join the IM Boulder group. Not much going on now, but as the race approaches you'll be able to share successes and challenges with other folks racing IM boulder who are on the same plan, at the same time as you. Otherwise, explore and fire away with any questions you may have.
Hi this is Mike Morris checking in as "New Member" from Norwalk, CT. I have been participating in triathlons for the past 8 years but with the help from Team EN look forward to completing my first Ironman in Lake Tahoe. Good to be aboard!
Nice of you to respond. I'm still trying to figure out this whole EN thing, but I am getting use to it. I'm crazy busy with family, work and COARNG (National Guard) stuff, so I don't quite have the time that I should to play around with the website, but I am learning.
I'm trying to figure out the difference between the Micro and Macro thread stuff, and which I should use to report what, and then who sees and who responds to which.
Thanks for the pointer on the IM Boulder group...I think I will join that...how does one do that? Is that just a search in the Macro-thread (or is it Micro? I'm a computer moron) for Boulder IM, and then subscribing to it?
Also trying to figure out events to do in preparation. I would have liked to do the Boulder half but it is closed now. I'm thinking I may do the Olympic at the Aurora Res in early June, and then perhaps a century bike and a half marathon sometime before that. My one requirement is to keep it local...apart from the demands traveling to events puts on my time, I figure with us living in about the most athletic state in the country, I shouldn't need to travel to find events. Any suggestions?

Macro is for season planning; micro is for day-to-day questions about the training plan, Only the coaches respond to those threads. Sometimes (a lotta times) people will post questions in other forums which the entire team can respond to, to get a broader perspective, or about things that aren't necessarily related to season planning or training plans, like what gear to buy, or how to handle an injury

The race specific threads are each in folders under the heading "Training and Racing Fourms ", lower down in the Forums page. Joining/subscribing is as simple as posting a reply in that folder, and checking the box labeled "Click to subscribe to this forum." on the left near the top.

Two places to post this question: the macro thread, and the "Race Selection & Reviews" folder in the Training Forums section.
Don, welcome to the team! I'm a newbee to this level of focus dedication but have done triathlon very informally for quite a while. What I have found here is that there are a LOT of people with tons of experience to the most minute detail that are very willing to share their expertise. All you have to do is ask. Good luck with your 2014 season!
Hey everyone. I'm a new member and excited to get started. I live in Palm Harbor, Florida. I have been in the sport of triathlon since 2009. I did my first 70.3 (Florida) in 2010 and my first Ironman in 2011 (Louisville). I've done 3 fulls so far and love them. I'm hooked as I'm sure most of you on here are. My main goal for 2014 is to cut some significant time off my PR. The past 2 years I've had some pretty major things happen in my life including a serious crash in 2012 and the loss of my best friend in 2013 that really hindered my training and am hoping to have a much better year this year. I've heard incredible things about EN and thought I'd give it a try. I'm registered for IM Boulder, IM Chattanooga, and IM Arizona. IMAZ is def. my A race. I am soooooo ready to get this year going.
Welcome! Sounds like you have (and will have a lot more) experience to share from a lot of IMs. It will be interesting to hear how the experiences differ.
Bill Granger here. Just getting back from an awesome camp with some of you in Texas.
I live here in Ashburn, Virginia, which just outside of Washington, DC. I'm a CTO for a mortgage brokerage firm in Bethesda, MD. I have a wife and three children, two of which are grown and the youngest is 13 and a competitive Ice Skater.
I'm currently training for IMTX. I finished my first IM last year in Louisville. Based on my time their 13:45, I had to sign up for another one. In January, I completed a half Iron distance race in Key West in 5:15; 40 minutes better than my previous half. So I feel like my performance is improving. I'm looking forward to meeting many of you and learning more about how become a better athlete.
@ Bill....welcome! Great to meet you this weekend. PLEASE hop into the IMTX group, lead by Shaughn Simmons. You will see a week 13 thread started tomorrow by Shaughn. We'll all be posting our workouts/questions/thoughts/etc. (some of us daily, some a few times/week...whatever fits you). I find it very helpful (understatement) at being consistent and not skipping workouts. It's also cool how you will often see someone else finding something in the workouts to be particularly hard (like...."those 5' 110% bike intervals are just torture and I couldn't maintain 110% for the last two", etc., etc.). Makes me feel like I'm not the only one that is human (cuz a few folks in this group I'm convinced are actually humanoids/robots/cyborgs/superheros/etc).
It can be a little intimidating for the first few weeks figuring out how the website works, where/how to post stuff, find answers, etc. Feel free to ask in the IMTX group forum....we're all on it daily, since we're all tri geeks focused on May 17!
Hello to everyone out there I am a new member and hope I am not the oldest. Completely new to triathlon and have only one aim to complete an ironman in Dec 2015 in Perth Western Australia aged 60. Background is 30 years of running now competing in ultra multi day events. The journey starts here.

Peter
@Peter - nope, you are not the oldest! There are some guys out there in your AG here in da' Haus! Sounds like you have a great background to start your IM journey. Welcome to the EN Team!
@ Peter — welcome. I live in Australia and have done the Busselton 70.3 many times and am confident that you will enjoy the venue. The ocean water is (usually) very clear with lots of fish etc visible. The bike and run are very flat, although the wind does strengthen in the afternoon. I used a compact crank and a 11/25 cassette and hardly used the small chain ring.
BTW, the Port Macquarie IM has a very difficult bike course that I need a 30 tooth cassette with a 34 chain ring.
I'm Joe and I'm a 39 year old IT manager at a large bank. I hang my hat in beautiful White Bear Lake, Minnesota near St. Paul. I have an incredibly supportive wife and two crazy little boys ages 6 and 9. It's been a long cold winter here; I've spent most of it on the treadmill. I cannot wait to get out there to ride and pound the pavement.
I am headed toward my 5th triathlon season with Ironnman Arizona set as my big finale for the year. I raced Ironman Wisconsin in 2012 with a 12:57 finish. I managed to wipe out on the bike while descending one of the course's famous hills, but my bike and I were miraculously spared major injuries. After a little wait for bike support, I was fixed up and back on the road. I'm looking forward to a flat, fast ride in Arizona, and hopefully a PR.
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you, learning from the knowledge that you share, and experiencing the sense of community that I have heard so much about.
Hello, my name is Anthony and I'm from Dallas, Tx. I'm a 43 year old engineer. This is my 4th season of triathlon, and I'm slow. I've completed numreous sprints, one Olympic, and two HIMs (Austin and Galveston), but was horribly slow. When I started training I was way overweight. This past year my wife and I brought a wonderful baby girl into the world and during the last 6 months my training went south and some of the weight came back. I'm looking to get down to my high school weight again and gain a ton of free speed in the process. I try to help others that are now slower and struggle as much as I did when I started. I like to let them know it gets better, not easier, but better and faster.
I've read all about EN for about a year now, but finally took the plunge. I know I have a lot to learn and look forward to it. My short plans are to do IM Austin again this year and break 6:30ish (hopefully) and then get ready for IM TX in 2015. Of all the silly things I'm now nursing a bum knee I got in my garage not exercising. It's going to be time to focus on my swim form with my master's coach and getting faster on the bike for a while.
Linc Markham from Katy, Tx. Started cycling 3 years ago and wanted to up the challenge and get the balance of multisport. Started tri training last year with a couple of sprints and Olympic targeting a 70.3 this Nov. Really no swim experience so joined a local master's program in Jan which has helped. As most are I am juggling family and work commitments so looking for the smartest way to train. Would love to do a full distance someday but volume of training seems to be even challenging getting to 70.3. Appreciate the team coaching concept and look forward to learning and sharing the journey.
Loving my little EN crew in Ottawa and wanted to be a part of it. ( :
I am excited to start training with the team. There seems to be a lot of information on the website and lots of enthusiasm floating around. I am a bit overwhelmed of where to start though. tests? do I really want to know or go there
a bit about me: after a few years of running/marathon-ing, I decided to dabble a little in triathlon, starting with duathlons... mainly because the swim seemed so scary. But oddly enough, swimming is now my favorite of the 3. I never thought I would say it, But I heart swimming! LOL weakness is still the bike, I probably need to stop being such a chicken. haha. I have participated in all tri distances now except the full iron distance.
I am currently working for a construction company/ homebuilders as their Human Resources, and love what I do. They are also pretty supportive of my triathlon goals (so long as the work gets done of course) When I am not training or at work, I like to be with my family and friend, I enjoy cooking reading, x country skiing and yoga-ing ( :
looking forward to getting know all of you on the team ( :
Welcome aboard Valerie! I am not the newest newbie anymore (since yesterday)! I turn that over to you :>
I submitted the season survey, added my thread and schedule a call for today with Coach Patrick which was very informative.
I am in Houston, Tx now but grew up in upstate NY so can appreciate the challenge you have for biking weather. I have dreaded swim and started a masters program in Jan and slowly progressing what is your secret to making your Fav?
My name is Kim I have been a member of EN for less than a week. I live in Southern California with my husband Eric who told me about EN. He just finished his first 70.3 after following an EN training plan and did very well for an old man! J/K my love, you are awesome! We are both in our 50s with 4 grown children, so now we have lots of time on our hands. My goals for this year: To complete my first sprint triathlon in May and an Olympic triathlon in October. I am enjoying this journey, but I tend to doubt myself often, because my progression is slow and inconsistent. Its just day by day, minute by minute, and sometimes second by second! Thanks
Hi, My name is Xavier Theunissen, just joined. I am aiming for my first IM Wisconsin in september, started triathlons one year ago. Came from losing 30 pounds of excess weight, now I want to be a competitive age grouper. Just turned 42. I am Dutch, and am living in Cleveland Ohio. This year is packed with three half distance, four ODs and one full IM. Hope I can do it all, would be awesome! Main focus is to remain injury free, lose more weight up to 'racing weight' and improve on all disciplines. Originally I am a biker, though right now running is my strongest section.
Hi from Maine. My name is Chris & I just joined EN last week. Prior to joining I had been following the EN 20 week IM beginner plan purchased online.
This will be my 3rd year of Tris and first IM, IM Lake Placid. First year I did a couple of local sprints and Rev3 Maine Oly. Last year I did two 70.3s, White Mtn. Tri and Rev3 Maine Half, & the Wallis Sands Sprint. Neither 70.3 went well, one due to being sick and lacking knowledge on bike pacing, the other due to catching the front wheel in a crack in the pavement. Looking forward to redeeming myself at the WMT in June and most of all completing my first IM in Lake Placid! My primary goal of this season is to arrive at IMLP healthy and feeling that I prepared the best I could.
@Kimberly, stick around for a while, follow the plan and you'll gain a ton of confidence. Work Works!
@Xavier, sounds like you have a full schedule there! I raced IM Wisconsin a couple years ago, it's a great race, you'll love it.
@Chris, we'll be training for IMLP together. I saw you started posting in the IMLP thread. Keep it up, it really helps to keep yourself accountable and helps other team members as well.
Hello EN. I am new here and have signed up for 7 day trial membership. I'm trying to find the right fit for my goals this year in triathlon. I took a temporary break from triathlon in 2013 and am back to training consistently but with no formal direction. I have done 3 Half IM races in 2011-2012 but never a full. This year I have signed up for IM Chattanooga...my first at this distance. I couldn't resist as its on my 39th birthday and very close to home....I live in north Alabama. I've heard good things about your training and I'm excited to see what EN has to offer.

Hi,
My name is Don Nowak.
I live in Suwanee, GA (north side of Atlanta), but I'm originally from New Orleans, which I consider my true home.
I've been an avid tennis player and golfer until I got bit by the triathlon bug last year.
In December of 2012, I joined Lifetime Fitness and hired a personal trainer who specialized in triathlon.
The biggest hurdle for me was swimming - I didn't know how.
In 2013, my first season of triathlon, I completed 5 sprint triathlons and 1 international distance.
For 2014, I've scheduled a duathlon in April, and Olympic Triathlons in May and June, with Ironman Augusta being my A race.
I will be volunteering at Ironman Lake Placid this summer and I *think* I'd like to signup for 2015 IM Lake Placid.
I'm very excited to get started. Looking forward to meeting the team at future events.
