  •  Welcome to all the new people

@ Paul-we have small group building in mid-atlantic, & DC area. I live in Baltimore as well as Eric. Keith, Kate and Becky live in VA, Suzanne in MD- ? Rockville area.( Anyone else if I missed, sorry) Cool for your Montgomery Co Tri club. Even better if EN type workouts can be  incorporated in a group setting. Sometimes it is hard to do group workouts when trying to do the EN thing. I would be willing to head down ther for some rides. I also Really like to train in Howard County.

Do you have a link to Tri club?

hopefully we can meet up soon

  • Hi - new member here.  So overwhelming just trying to read as much as possible and take it all in (and keep up with my workouts!).  Looking fwd to chatting with many of you this year.  My races are HIM Syracuse 70.3, Marine Corps Marathon, New Jersey Marathon, Eagleman 70.3, and IM Lake Placid next July.  image

  • Everyone:

My name is Brian Comiskey and have been doing tri's for 3 years.  I just started the 12 week training plan for IMFL today.  I completed IMLP this year with reduced training volume to labral reconstruction surgery on my shoulder in Feb.  I live in the Chi suburbs and will be up in Madison for IMOO this year training/volunteering/spectating/registering so will hopefully get to meet more of the team then.

    Best,

    Brian

  • @Tracy: club site is www.mocomultisport.org.  Most of the real communication is through our FB group (search MOCO Multisport) for all the latest news.

  • Hello Team.

My name is Bret and I live in Anchorage Alaska. I'm 49 years old and took up this triathlon thing at the age of 42. I'm from a running background originally but saw my wife do the inaugral IM Wisconsin and got hooked. I have 3 grown sons. My wife is a consistent IM age group podium finisher and will be doing Kona this year for the third time. Ironman Texas will be my 11th Ironman race and I hope to qualify for Kona for a second time.  I had a good season in 2005 with Rich as a coach (Crucible Fitness) but thought I knew enough to go it alone. The result has been mediocore race performances since. I took 2010 off from ironman racing. I'm looking forward to a fresh start using this Out Season training strategy and learning how to use a power meter to train and race. I look forward to learning from the EN community and sharing any knowledge I have accumulated over the last 7 years.

  • Welcome Bret, That is some pretty impressive numbers you and your wife have. Since you have already trained with Rich you know his background. The outseason is an awesome time to get faster and you will  soon learn to love it and hate it all at the same time. Who ever thought that such a short workout could be so killer. 11 Ironman finishes in such a short period is very serious. I have been doing this for years and I have not even done one yet.

I would love to know how the training is in Anchorage.

    Steve

  • Welcome everyone!

Bret - what do you in Anchorage? Are you originally from there? I love that city! I did an internship at Providence Hospital when I was in grad school (physical therapy). Lived on the APU campus. Ah, the trips to hike at Eklutna Lake, ice climbing on the Matanuska glacier, mtn bike camping trips to the Kenai peninsula...those were the days! image Hope to get back up there some day.
  • @ Michele: I'm an ENT. I do most of my surgeries at Providence Hospital. You probably wouldn't recognize the place anymore because they are always under construction adding buildings and doing remodeling.

@Steven: Training for an early season ironman up her sucks.  There are a surprising number of triathletes up here, some are very high ranked nationally. So training while difficult, can be done. I will probably substitute some cross country skate ski intervals for one of the indoor bike sessions every week just to keep my sanity. I'll take a trip to Hawaii in early April to do Lavaman Tri and long outdoor bike rides. I can pretty much run outside all winter.

  • Welcome Bret, ha I must admit though I complain something fierce about the winters in Iowa having moved here from my home state of Florida. If you are running outside all winter in Alaska... then I certainly don't have much to complain about being in Iowa. I have always wanted to take up XC skiing though, it's not that big here but if I ever make my way to a more outdoor-friendly area out West it is definitely something I want to try.
  •  Hello,

My name is Gary I finishing up my second week with EN. I am 51 years old and started doing triathlons in 1999 as a way to get in shape. I raced for about 5 years and after really finding a love for the bike, I became a fulltime road racer and gave up triathlon. I am currently a Masters Cat 3 and still love to race. After an injury earlier this year curtailed my bike time and racing, I started running again. My girlfriend thought I should start thinking about doing triathlons again and I figured why not. Never one to do anything half ass I am doing Branson in 4 weeks and signed up for Ironman Texas  May 2011.

I am really looking forward to working with everyone at EN. I am not very savvy on how  all the social stuff (micro, mini, twitter) works but am always eager to learn.

  • Gary,
Welcome to the team, great to have you with us. It takes a while to get down all the features of the team and website. Dont be bashful, just jump into the forums. Good luck at Branson.
  • Whats Up everyone? I am a new member just started today. I am relatively new to triathlons (within the past 2 years) Will be competing in my first 70.3 on October 17th, 2010, At the Atlantic Coast Triathlon.  If there is anyone out there doing this race, let me know I would like to meet up.  I am excited to race and get the outseason training started with EN.

Any Northeast Forida people out there give me a shout.

  •

Hello all,   New to EN.   45 yo in 2011. Male part of the photo. We just finished our second Ironman. Good fun in Canada.   Hoping to qualify someday though the times seem to get further and further out of reach.

My third Ironman will be St. George. May 2010. So looking forward to a season indoors on the bike here in tacoma, Washington.

Starting to learn about the EN system. Outseason 20 week + 12 week iron? Or Outseason started at 12 weeks left + 20 week Ironman plan?    And how to add Big Bike week AND Big Triathlon week to this. I don’t have the vacation time to do those so not sure how to work these. Are these in the Outseason and Ironman plans?   So lots of learning and sorting out to do.

Probably will take another 1-2 weeks of relative relaxing. This last week did do bike ftp and run threshold testing. About what I expected. So have these to use.

Any other St. Georgers out there?

And then, though it may be a bit crazy, my (hopefully) fourth Ironman will be Ironman Regensburg (Germany) in August.   St. George will be a solo effort and my primary focus for the season.    Regensburg will be part of a European vacation and will race with my wife.

    See you out there.
  • Hey Robin, welcome to the team, and glad to have another EN teammate in the neighborhood! My husband and I have signed up for Regensburg in '11 as well as part of our EU vacation (it will be our 4th IM) Have you checked Ironman Regensburg Race Q & A that Dave Tallo posted? http://endurancenation.us.dnnmax.com/Community/Forums/tabid/101/aff/37/aft/3350/afv/topic/Default.aspx
    Pretty useful info.

I am planning to start 20 week OS on Nov. 1 after Portland Half on 10/10. After OS, I will have 2 transition week, and 6 wk general prep, then 12 wk IM intermediate plan. If you haven't already read this thread started by Coach Patrick, this should help you plan. Since you are doing IMSG, you will prob. have to start OS on Oct.4. http://endurancenation.us.dnnmax.com/Community/Forums/tabid/101/aff/24/aft/3039/afv/topic/Default.aspx#42218

You can find more info on planning your OS and IM plan in Forum General Training Discussions. You can also post your specific/personal questions to the coaches using The Macro Thread.

  • Excellent.  Thanks much.  Robin

  • Hey Everyone!

Became a new member a couple of days back, been lurking about the Haus since & I’m liking what I see – memory overload, so much information! Been racing the last three years, only stepping up to half-ironman this year! Enjoyed it & now want more, so Austria 70.3 is for me come 11 May 2011! Looking forward to the OS training plan & to begin training with power! Based in County Kildare, Ireland – so any members any way close to my location, let me know!

  • Well, I'm in. It's official.

Hello EN members, I'm excited to be on board and am confident that the EN program will get me to where I want to be. I'm a husband and father of 2 boys (age 5 and 10), living in Cypress,TX. Yes, right next door to where the IMTX will be held in May....part of the reason I joined EN. I did IMKY last year, trained by myself with the goal of 'finishing with a smile on my face' and I made it. What an awesome day that was. As much as I wanted to do another IM, I told everyone that my next IM was going to be in about 10 yrs, when my kids have drivers licenses and I have a bit more free time. I completely missed that summer with my family because I spent all my free time training. I just didn't want to do that again. My family time is  what's most important to me and everything else is secondary.

Well, unexpectedly, IMTX shows up and I just can't resist the tempation of signing up!! I knew that if I was going to do this, I had to train smarter and that's where EN's philosophy seemed to fit perfectly with my goals......minimal training time, max results. The difference between IMKY and IMTX for me is that I want to actually 'race' and have a competitive time and not just make it through the 140.6 miles.

I've been doing tri's for about 4 yrs.I come from a swimming backround, so the swim is not an issue for me. My running is fairly decent, and my biking has come a long way from where I started. Both the run and bike are fairly even, on an age group % placing.

Thanks folks, and I can't wait to immerse myself in the EN!

  • I'm in!!!! Man, do I have a lot of reading to do!!!! I'm 37 and just getting done with my third year of Tri's. One of the first things I was given when I started to think about doing IMCDA was the Four Keys lecture. I never forgot it and read it many times. Did IMCDA in 2009 (12:34) and will do it again next year. I'm looking forward to getting out of the lone ranger mentality and being an active part of the Nation. I'll be in the OS plan starting a couple of weeks. I'll see some of you there.

I live in University Place, WA so, maybe I'll be able to hook up with folks from this area (Robin and Yasko).

    I better get to reading!!!
  • Hey Robin-  I just joined and live in UP, WA.  I wanted to introduce myself.   After we get situated in EN, lets plan to get together and talk Ironman.  When I am not training, I am the legal advisor for the Tacoma Police Dept. and my wife works at the King County Prosecutor's office.  I have two girls age 5 and 7.  Too bad the weather's going to atart really sucking or we could get a ride in before all hell breaks loose.  I'll do my last Tri of the year this weekend at Black Diamond.

Good to see someone from my neighborhood!

    Michael

  • Hello,  You belong to South Sound Triathletes?   Saturday bike rides from Dupont onto Fort Lewis.   Good luck at Black Diamond.  So yes see you sometime.  Robin

  • Howdy,  LIved in Southampton for a year, years ago.  Best, Robin

  • Hi all, Matt Keiper from Virginia Beach, and I'm going to be starting my OS plan on Nov 1. I have a 12 year old son who's my biggest supporter and loves the sport also. I've been doing tri's for 5 years now and I'm ready to step up my performance. I'm going to race IM Lou and would like to go sub 11. I've done ChesapeakeMan twice with self induced GI issues in the 1st and mechanical in my 2nd. I'm looking forward to working as part of the EN team.

  • Hi everyone my name is Zach Copeland, I am a father of 2 with one on the way. 2011 will be my 3rd year in Triathlon, the first year I just did a couple of Sprints and was hooked. This year I was training for Ironman Branson but the night and morning of I got the flu temperature and all I ended up going to the swim start but decided and the last minute it was not worth it. As it turns out the bike course killed most people and the run it was over 90 so I think i made the right decision. I did acomplish some things this year though, I did 2 olys and placed 2nd in my age group on a local Sprint in Branson on part of the Ironman bike course. The wife really wants me to do Steelhead and visit the area and so do I. Has anyone done Steelhead is it a good course? I think my Full Ironman dreams will be put on hold till 2012. I am going to do a my first Half Marathon in Nov and start the OS Group in November. Nice to meet everyone here, I have been following EN since the Spring of this year I saw a 4 keys talk hosted on Beginnertriathlete.com and knew I wanted to be part of the team.
  • I joined SST a few years ago, but really wasn't able to do any of the activities b/c of my schedule.  I will definitely be getting more active for the next season.

  • Rich - looks like with your changes I'll be in December OS, please adjust my list-membership accordingly as below. thx JL

  •  Howdy, another FNG, here!

I've known of Rich since his Crucible Fitness days.  I drank the Kool-aid months ago, and finally got on the bandwagon.

My first tri was in 2002. I had plenty of century+ biking behind me, and did IMMOO in 2003. Repeat in 2005, Switzerland in 2006, a couple years off to build a house, and back to CdA 2010.  I've had a power meter for years, but my coach didn't make good use of it.  I expect to work harder, but not necessarily longer, with an EN plan.  I plan to step back to Olympics and maybe halves, evaluate my progress, before making another swing at IM distance.

    Happy to be here!

    Joe

  • Hey all, glad to be apart of the team! Loved the EN training program that I used last season. Can't wait to be apart of the team. I'm signed up for IMWI 2011. Not sure what else I'll pursue. Thinking about Kansas 70.3. Lots to learn this year. Thanks all! Kelly
  • Hello, I am a new member of EN. I have been a runner for a number of years and am an AG45-49 athlete. I have run a few marathons, with halfs PR and marathon PR's of 1:22 and 2:56 respectively. I switched to tris a couple of years ago, having had a great first season but having major bouts of tendonitis the last two years have been disappointing. Despite some major hamstring tendonitis (Ischeal tuberosity) I have completed a couple HIM's: Steelhead, Clearwater, Steelhead and just finished IMLou, where I went 11:54 with a 1:16, 5:28, 4:52 splits. I consider swim my weak event, but not being able to train the run the past couple of years is getting old. Finally got a cortisone shot to the bursa and am going nuts taking a complete month off of biking and running hoping to ensure that 2011 is better. I look forward to starting the OS training in October (or Nov depending progress) and plan on doing IM Muncie 70.3 and IMLou in 2011.

I have been reading a lot about EN the past year, believe in the approach, and am excited to finally have the opportunity to join.
  • Hi all,
I'm Roger Kitlowski. I am married with 3 kids. (8, 4, &1). I live in Colorado, where I work as an anesthesiologist. I've been in triathlon for 8 years, and endurance sports since I was 11 (my first marathon). I joined EN for a change in training philosophy. I've been slowly transitioning on my own from big volume, to more high intensity stuff ( both for time management requirements, but also for burn out issues). I also love the idea of sharing knowledge from a bigger community. I look forward to contributing as well.
    Talk to you soon,
    Roger
  • Hello to all my new training partners! I'm ending my 20th year as a triathlete with the Long Course Nationals next weekend at Myrtle Beach. Then, I'm taking a break until 1 Nov. I'm 50, retired Military, empty nester, married 28 years, civil engineer, who is currently working for the Army in San Antonio

I'm looking to getting my running back after focusing on biking for many years. It certainly has been my limiter and I'm ready to focus on some long range build up in the OS.
