  • Hello all, I decided to join. I live in Albuquerque, NM and I am a structural engineer. I recently left the army national guard. After being deployed in 2006/2007 my fitness has progressively gotten worse. I am a novice to triathlons, such a novice that I realized today that I need to buy toe cllips/cleats (?) for my bike. I have a lot to learn but I am excited and look forward to my first race.
  • @Joe - see you at Nationals next weekend. I'll be in Team EN gear.
  • Hello all!  My name is Chris and I am getting ready for my fourth triathlon year.  I completed IMUSA in 2009, and hope to conquer it it in 2011.  I've trained the old way, and living 50 miles north of Buffalo, that was no fun!  Yup, that's right, I am Canadian.  I've contemplated joining last year, but wasn't sure the time was right because I planned to take it easy the past season.  Now I am ready to work hard and love the sport more.  I need to improve my cycling performance, and hopefully the membership will help me learn how to properly use all my fancy tools.

  • Welcome to the Team Christian. I'll be up at LP in 2011 volunteering and keeping an eye on my EN teammates. You joined at the perfect time. You're going to love the gains you get with the OS and the support you get from people training with the same goals, challenges and races.

    peace,

    cary
  • Hey Greg - Welcome to EN - I'm pretty new here as well, but you'll find a wealth of knowledge over over the site and don't hesitate to ask questions in the medical forum. I can also appreciate your going nuts taking a forced break, as I'm in the same shoes with nagging hamstring strain.

Roger - also great to see your post and like I noted above - you will find sharing knowledge to be the real key here - and sounds like you have some good experience as well, so don't hesitate to jump in.

    Welcome to the team...
  • Hi Everyone! I just joined today and am excited to get started. This was my 1st yr of Triathlon and I completed 2 sprint's and 2 Olympic distances. I convinced a group of friends to sign up for IM Louisville 2011 with me as a fundraising hook to raise money for our charity that gives financial support for the men and women of our military that have fallen on financial hardship while serving our great country. We intend to raise at least $140,600 for Reserve Aid while completing IM Louisville. I'm 205 lbs (mostly in my shoulders and neck since I was a wrestler in my former life) and I hate running so this should be interesting. The longest run of my life is 10 miles. That will change next week when I complete the Mighty Man Montauk Half-IM. I love data and have bought all the toys, hopefully I'll learn how to actually use them properly while training and racing. I love hard work, but with 2 little kids and long work hours, this will be an exciting challenge. I've bought into the EN philosophy, now it's time to actually start practicing it.
    Cheers,
    --Withrow
  • Welcome to the team John. Do you live on Long Island? I was supposed to do a relay for Mighty Montauk next week, but I've got a wedding to attend. Enjoy the race. And get ready to start doing some work in the OS.
  • Hello everyone.  I live in the suburbs of Indianapolis on the East side of the city.  This will actually be my first season of triathlon in 2011.  I have started training many times before but either injury or fear of the swim has kept me out.  I am determined to make the outcome different this time.  I have found a swim coach in Indy that I hope to be able to work with and he also does Open Water swims in the warmer months, so that shjould be very beneficial for a person that can't swim a single length of the pool without feeling like I am going to die.

My events for the year are:

Indianapolis Mini Marathon - May 7

Ironman Muncie 70.3 (formerly the Muncie Endurathon) - July 9

Maybe a sprint in April and a few Sprint and Olympic Tris after the 70.3.

My hope is to be able to do an IM in 2012.  Goals for now are just to learn how to be comfortable in the water and finish all of the events I enter.  I am not worried about times at all as i know I am slow, I just want to have fun and finish (this year).

Looking forward to talking with you all in the forums.

  • Hey Cary--  I actually live in Central NJ (07076), but I have a friend who has a place in LI so we decided to do this race as a good end of season race and to give ourselves motivation to work harder in the OS.  It'll be a stretch for me distance wise, but I'm going to try to follow a conservative plan and learn from this experience...

  • @John - we've got a bunch of folks in Central Jersey so maybe you can get some group training opportunities to happen. Check out the regional forums -> Northeast.

Good luck in Montauk this weekend, pace yourself and enjoy the scenery, it's beautiful out there.
  • Welcome to all new EN'rs. Having been here a year and seeing great improvement without "drinking the entire glass of koolaide" I have to say, I can't wait to see what happens now that I'm licking the glass clean! I would say good luck but watching what goes on in the haus....I have to say, good execution!
  • Hello EN! I dicided to join the party as I get ready for next season. I live in Orono, Maine and only have 2 seasons of triathlons but have been running marathons for 7 years. In honesty, my passion is really in running but triathlons are a whole lot of fun. My first tri was Oly last fall - Lobsterman. This year I did sprints in June and August then in September I did a sprint and a half in the same weekend at Pumpkinman - that was awesome!

I have 1 more race this year - the MDI Marathon in 3 weeks where i hope to re-qualify for Boston. Getting 2 BQs in 1 year would be great.

My 2 big races for next year are Boston Marathon and IMLP.

    Run Strong
  • Hi everyone. My name is Brian Pautsch and I live in Orland Park, IL (suburb of Chicago). A friend recommended me to EN and after a few days of browsing around and reading, it looks great. I got into triathlon 2 years ago and have since lost 60 lbs, raced a bunch of Sprints and Olympic distances, Escape from Alcatraz, and my first 70.3 this past summer (Steelhead). Next year includes 2 70.3's (Oceanside, CA and Steelhead again) and my first full IM (Florida). I'm volunteering at IMFL this year to see the course and guarantee my spot. Off-season plans are to drop 20 lbs (then I'm done!) and get faster on the bike and run. I look forward to talking with all of you online and meeting you at the races. Good luck to everyone!
  • Hi All - my name is Sumner Smith and I live in Asheville, NC. I'm still figuring out my 2011 season, but am focusing on xterra next year (with probably a few other things thrown in, but I haven't figured it all out yet.) This will be my third season of triathlon - did a few sprints last year, an xterra and a couple of sprints this year, and am finishing up this year with a road century on Sunday (Hilly Hellacious), and a 40 mile mountain bike race in early November (Swank 65). Despite what my bike-heavy end of this year might lead you to believe, I actually have a running background (although it turns out experience with the intermediate hurdles is not really all that useful for triathlons.)

I'm looking forward to being on the EN team - and adding some structure to my haphazard workout schedule. Good luck, and I look forward to meeting everyone!
  •  Hi All!

My name is Michael Kmiec.  I live in Princeton, NJ.  and  will be entering my 2nd year of triathalon, after a year of getting acclimated to them via two sprint tri's that I loved.

This coming year I plan on some Olympic distances in the spring/early summer, and then training and completing the Pocono 70.3 HIM on 10/2/11.  I am really looking forward to being part of Team EN

  • Hi all. I am Jeff Davis from Westchester NY. I had the past year off and finally found the time to get focused on getting in shape and got started doing tri's through the Rye Y tri club. I did a couple sprints and an olympic and am looking to improve my execution at olympic distance and possibly do a HIM at the end of next season. I am originally a cyclist but find I really enjoy the swimming - the run though is still a struggle for me (in terms of motivation and focus) and hope to remedy that over the outseason...

I am definitely short on time since I'm married with 2 kids and am working on a startup business. The EN ROI focus is going to be really critical for me to meet my goals and I look forward to being a member of this great community.

  • Hello everyone,

My name is Michael Gasser and I've been into triathlon for about 2 years. I am stepping up the distance this coming year with IM Switzerland in July. I am in the Army and was recently assigned to Vicenza, Italy. My goals for the year are to fix my miserable swimming technique and improve my cycling. I'm looking forward to the outseason plan and can't wait to start training.
  • Hi Everyone! I My name is Cristina and I am from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. I have been in the multisport world for several years, but due to injury, I am just coming back to long distance racing. I am signed up for IM Canda in Aug 2011. My first IM at LP didn't go as well as hoped. I think with a year of good consistant training, things will go much better. Looking forward to "training" with the EN team.

  • Hi All!

2010 was my first year in multisport. I've wanted to do an Ironman since the first time I saw Kona on Wide World of Sports back in the 80's, and every year when it's aired on TV I always said to myself "I'd like to do that one day". Well I was watching it in December last year and I just told myself enough was enough, if I'm gonna do this then I need to get started. So I signed up for IMLOU 2010 and proceeded to buy EVERYTHING (I was starting completely from scratch) and started training. I finished in 15:34 and am now hooked. I joined TeamEN because my goal for IMLOU 2011 is sub 13 hours. Yeah that's a big jump but from what I've seen, this is the right team to be training with to get me there.

  •  Hi everybody!  My name is Marc and I live in Marina Del Rey, CA.  This is my 4th year participating in triathlons and I love it.  I've done sprints, Olympics and a HIM.  I did the Silverman half in Las Vegas last year and it was amazing.  This year was the first year in which I actually didn't do any race because I am a new father image  I know...no excuses but finding training time was hard.  Now that our lil boy (who's 6 months) is in some sort of schedule, I've started training again.  My goal has always been to do a full IM and am going to sign up for Vineman on July 30th.

Due to time constraints, I've come to the realization that I can't train the "normal" triathlon way and started looking for alternatives. Heard about Endurance Nation and have been intrigued and impressed by all I've seen and heard.  Looking forward to successful partnership with EN.

Before I forget...there are 2 items I do feel I need to disclose image  I've read all the intro information and I've already broken 2 key ideas of EN.  The first is marathon training.  I've done the LA Marathon 5 times and consider that a B or C race.  However, my wife (who NEVER runs) decided that she wants to train for the 2011 Marathon.  So, we signed up with the LA Roadrunners to help us train (I figured my wife would be bored just running with me and thought she'd have a better chance of sticking with the program if there were other people).  So every week, we are doing a short run and a long run.  I really hope I can incorporate this into the EN programs because I am not missing out on the chance to cross the finish line with my wife and child (in the stroller).

The other item is working out in the gym.  In addition to my previous tri training, I've always incorporated 2 days of gym time during the week.  I'm not as attached to this since I've already broken the rule regarding marathon training.  I would be willing to cut it down to once a week but am willing to drop it.

Sorry for a long thread but am excited about being successful with my triathlons and still having lots of family time!

    Marc

  • My name is Art and I have been non-sedentary for 2.5 years now. I currently hail from Sammamish,WA. Finished IMCDA this past June and had the proverbial blast despite making virtually every newbie mistake in the book - most of which I knew of beforehand. Looking to make some more advanced mistakes at IMCDA in 2011. I am the reverse of many tri folks in that, relatively speaking, my rank order strengths are swimming, biking, running. However, at 6'4" 200 lbs (250lbs fall of 2007 to 192lbs @ 2010 IMCDA) and 39 yrs I am still very much in the Big Slow Mover category... for now.

Have to say that reading the EN outseason plan/philosophy gave me neck cramps from my head nodding so much... very much looking forward to the next 20 weeks and beyond.

  •  Yukon Bill checking in from the North Country - Still learning to navigate around the site - Plan to start O/S Nov 1st with goal of 'knocking it out of the park' at Ironman Canada Aug 28th 2011 ( finish with enough energy to do a wine tour post race) - my first date and I'm looking forward to it !  "pain is inevitable - suffering is optional"

  • my name is brian kelly and i live in minneapolis.  i am 54 years old and plan to do wisconsin and florida IM next year...looking forward to trying a new training philosophy..have always done training on my own, so there is huge room for improvement in this area..hopefully there are some minneapolis athletes in this program....

  • Hay Brian! Welcome to the team!! There are a number of members here in the metro area. Bill, Jesse, and Sheryl just to name a few. Some of us actually got together the last 2 weekends and rode to Jordan and back. I am from Prior Lake. Just yesterday I put the bike on the trainer for the OS. Where r u from and what races are you doing next year?

    Welcome to the team!!
  • Just posted my "introduction" on my Dashboard, but figured I should throw something up here as well.

I'm really looking forward to being part of the team and interacting with everyone.

I'll be focusing primarily on the 70.3 series in 2011, but will probably mix in some short course / du's / and maybe a late season marathon as well.

I also live in MPLS, so I'm sure I'll be spending plenty of time in my "pain cave" this winter!

    See everyone online!

  • Hey y'all, new member here from Los Angeles. After a near-decade of false starts, I finished my FIRST season of triathlon (sprints and Olys) and look forward to my first HIM and IM next season.  My swim is pretty good, my bike is terrible and my run is okay but should be much faster.

I look forward to interacting with you guys & gals and becoming a better athlete in the process!

    My goals:

SWIM: good to go...my wife is an amazing swim coach
BIKE: eventually buy a power meter and do whatever the coaches say to make me get faster...the sky's the limit on this one!
RUN: increase my vDot score; currently my score is all over the map, depending on what distance I'm running (my 5K vDot is 49, 10K vDot is 47, marathon vDot is 41)

  • Hello all...officially a new member! Seemed like an eternity for the trial period to end. Looking forward to starting OS Nov and my first full IM in May (IMSG)!!

Did my first HIM last weekend (Austin) in 6:20. This was my first Tri season. Did six races in all (3 sprints, 2 Olympics, and the Austin HIM). Goal for 2011 is to complete my first full IM and to better my time at the Austin HIM.
  • Hello from a newbie in Buffalo! Waiting for some snow and trying to psych myself up for a Nov 1st start of EN-OS. That is my problem, self-motivation is lacking. I have been doing tri's for 4 years now but have never trained for one. I exercise once or twice a week and I know that will not be enough to complete my 1st IM in Lake Placid next summer. I have faked my way through three HIM's with running 2 or 3 miles per week. I am confident I can finish IMLP but I would like to do more than finish and also try to avoid injury as I start training for real. HELP!
  •  hi josh,

thanks for the note.  it is nice to know that there are some people from minneapolis in this club.  this OS program should be interesting..very structured..i am looking forward to it......i live in uptown, so i am on the lakes and trails alot...for races next year..wisconsin and florida ironman...probably chisago and high cliff halfs, then buffalo, trinona olympic dist.  if you ever get together for runs, etc..i would like to join...

    brian

  • Joe, while we can't self motivate you, we can certainly get you going. You clearly have some serious potential if you have only be staying fit instead of training specifically....your own results should be inspirational enough!
