  • Hey everyone, my name is Tim and I live in Maryland just outside DC. I registered for IM Wisc in 2011 as my first IM and A race for next year. I did a HIM last year and had fun, so since my wife was registering for Wisc, I thought I should too. Then I started watching You Tube vids and found these funny "What's on my bike" videos and one thing led to another and here I am on the team. I'm really looking forward to training this winter. I've always used the winter to "get fat and slow" but I'm feeling this winter will be different and make next season much better that this last one was.
  • Hi - thought I'd introduce myself as a new member:

I live in Dallas, TX, am 33 years old and have been active in triathlons for about 3 years. I completed Ironman Louisville in 2010 and Ironman Cozumel in 2009.  I've been self-trained up to now and want to put some structure and science behind my workouts to make some real gains.

I'm registered for St. George in 2011 and hope this program will help me run the entire marathon after - as opposed to the shuffle step I've been reduced to in past attempts. Throw some elevation and lots of climbs in, and I'm sure it'll be a piece of cake!

Complicating my workout schedule in addition to my day job, I also teach spin 3X week and lead a less intense cycle Saturday mornings - and I enjoy getting in a gym session with weights 2 times a week.  Any other instructors out there have suggestions for managing the demands of training others with your own training needs?

In addition to St. George, I've also got a lesser priority goal to Boston qualify.  In terms of strengths and weakneses, I rank my swim the strongest, followed by the bike, and the run last.  That being said, my real passion is for running, and due to any number of reasons including form and too high of mileage too fast, found myself with a stress fracture in my foot that left me unable to run for a year.  While that appears to have healed - I'm looking to maintain (or improve )my endurance - but get faster on as few miles as possible.

Looking forward to a good offseason!

    Jason

  • Hi my name ís Kristian Hallsten

Ive done triathlons for five years all selfcoached but now i thought i wanted to have some input and some more structure to my training, especially after having my second kid a couple of months ago

Goal race is IM nice, my brother Fredrik just recently took his Hawaii spot in Florida and he`s not going there all by himself is he?

  • @Jason - I'm in TX too (Austin) and doing Im St George in 2011.  Just started EN this month and currently in OS Nov group.  IMSG will be my first full IM.  Catch you there for sure!

Love that you are here because of Bill and Noodle's videos! Welcome!

  • Dose this count as towards the Refer-a-friend discount on Bill's and my membership?
  •  Hi, I'm Graham Dunn from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada ... I did my first try-a-tri in 2004, and was more or less dabbling until last year, did two half-iron distances (Peterborough and Muskoka), and am looking to get faster at that distance for another year or two before thinking about anything longer. This year I'm going to be racing Ohio TripleT, Peterborough Half, and some as-yet-undecided 70.3 m-dot event (Muskoka if it's still alive, or maybe Steelhead and see if I can get a 70.3 WC spot), maybe a local Oly and half marathon.

  • Howdy everyone!

My name is Virginia and I am brand new to EN. My background is in running (some 17ish combined half and full marathons) and I've really only dabbled in triathlons until now. I have a sprint tri and a HIM distance race under my belt and am hoping to really step up my game in 2011. I've worked the IMFL finishline for the last 4 years contemplating doing it each time and this year I actually registered so I guess it's time to man up lol. I found myself leaning toward EN because I am stretched for time a lot (working full time and grad school) but I'm excited to jump into training and interacting with the team.

    Guess that's it for now,

    Virginia

  • Hello Everyone.  My name is Chip Schilling and I live in La Crosse, WI.  Next year will be my 4th year in Triathlon and I've done 2 IM's (both Wisconsin) and quite a few 1/2's and Olympics.  I have a swimming background but really need to improve my biking and race execution.  I had a coach last year but wasn't very satisfied.  I look forward to being on the Team and can't wait to get started on the OS plan.

  •

Good Day Everyone. My name is Casey and I am new to EN and new to Tri’s. Until now I’ve been a duathlete and runner; about 20 du’s, 12 marathons, and a bunch of ½ marathons.

I have been training with triathletes in my area for a long time but have always been VERY week in the swim, so I stayed away. I have competed as a relay team member in some tri’s including the bike portion of the 2010 Augusta 70.3

I’ve finally decided to learn to swim and take the plunge – 2 70.3’s and an IM in my future (wife only knows about the Gulf Coast Tri so far. My wife is a 3 x Ironman and after having traveled to 5 different IM’s in a support role (Sherpa) and as volunteer.

I need structure to my training in order to excel– EN here I come!
  • Hey All:
I'm Bryan, from chilly Fort Collins, CO. I'm a solo attorney, basketball coach and father of 6 beautiful kids. Yes, my wife is a Saint.
I'm a repeat offender, making my return to EN after an 18 month hiatus. Bad knees shifted my ultra running focus to tris about 12 years ago. I've completed 7 IMs, narrowly missing my Kona dream multiple times.
I ruptured my patellar tendon dunking a basketball on New Year's eve last year, which actually brought a whole new focus to training, resulting in a 1/2 IM PR of 4:28 at Harvest Moon in September.
My left knee is still refusing to fully cooperate, but as a stubborn 46 year old, I'm deep into the OS training plan and looking to dial everything in and qualify at IM CDA in June.
I look forward to your words of wisdom.
  • Hello-

I've been doing triathlons for about 1.5 years and have moved from sprints to recently completing my first HIM.  I'm 48, married and the father of 2 high school age children.  Injured my hamstring in Jan. 2010 and had limited biking and running until May 2010. Completed 3 olympic distance events in addition to the HIM in 2010.  Looking to do a Spring 2011 HIM-maybe New Orleans (4/11) and then some olympic and sprint events through the Summer with another HIM in the Fall.  Hoping to improve on my 5:27 HIM time with the help of the folks here at EN.

Since mid-November I've been in maintenance mode with 1-2 swims, 3-4 runs and 3-4 bikes a week.  Not as much volume but have been increasing the intensity in my bike and run workouts.  Doing a few local runs during the Winter 8k, 5k, 10k and maybe a half marathon in January.  Plan is to begin ramping up triathlon training in early January.

  • I'm a new member of EN, but I finished my 118th triathlon at IM Cozumel.  I had an easy year, finishing 3 races in record breaking slow times-I think I wore a sun dial for a timing chip. I took 5 years off racing to play some tennis, but I'm now back with a new bike and an old body.

I live in NJ and train some at the Jersey Shore at Ortley Beach, and environs. I'm also a member of the Jersey Shore Tri Club.

Born in Colorado Springs, and raised in Ohio, I've been in New Jersey just about 6 months.  Hate the cold weather....

I am probably the oldest member here at age 68.  So, quit whining as most of you have mother's milk in your mouth.  Have fun and be thankful you have the physical and mental capacity to train and race. Every day is a blessing!

HOO-RAY - I've been waiting for you so I can hand over that honor, of being the "eminence grise". Welcome aboard! --- Where in Ohio? I grew up in Cinti, 45213.

  • Hey Team,

My name is Rich B and I just joined on. I live up in North Texas and have been doing tris for about 3 years. I am married with 3 wonderful kids. I’ve done/completed IMKY and IMAZ and a handful of other HIMs and Olys the past few years and have usually ‘enjoyed’ these races from the far BOP. I specifically wanted to enjoy those IMs, and I did - all 16 hours of each -yikes!. Who would have thought that when all you do is train slowly (LSD), there is a good chance that you will race slowly as well (doh!)!! So now its time to hook up with some smart people, actually do some hard work and see if I can race a couple of these IMs and see if I can finish much closer to sundown. The next “A” race is IMTX next May – being from Texas, I’m looking forward to the race, meeting many of you and welcoming many of y’all to the best state in the country.

I’m looking forward to learning from the team and its coaches as we continue on our respective journeys. I wish I would have stumbled upon y’all – a few years ago.

  • Hey Rich - be sure to look at the IMTX rally that EN is working on. It is in a separate thread under Admin questions and the dates seem to be 31 March to 2 April. Hope to see you there!

  •  Hey everyone, I joined over a week ago, but I only just now read the wiki for new members and so I am catching up. Sorry, I am one of those guys ...anyway, it is like getting a sip of water from a fire hydrant.  I live in Ocala, Florida and I am going into my 4th season of triathlon.  I am 38 years old, 210 plus 7lbs down from 280.  I have had a great time finishing 4 half IM and 3 IM even with crazy vomiting in all but the last 2.  It took me awhile to figure out nutrition.  Now I am ready for speed, and so I am signed up and pumped about getting to work.  I have a very encouraging and supportive wife and 2 fun kids, Parker 13 and Marybeth 11.  This season I am signed up for St Anthony's Olympic and going to commit to Augusta 1/2 IM.  My long term goal, please hold me to it, go sub 12 in 2012 at Arizona.  So, there is a lot more boring stuff about me, but you figure that out...thanks to all the support so far, EN is awesome!  Chap.

  • Hi,   I joined a few days ago but have been lazy to post something(just like my previous training).  I have been self coached athlete doing one sprint tri a year. Last year I did the Eagleman 70.3, and I am signed up to compete in IM Brazil.  I am excited to start a structured training program instead of my half-ass training program that I came up with the past couple of years.  My goal is to make it to Kona but understanding this is my first foray into real IM training, I hope to come pretty close to that point. I am 29, will be 30 in one week and I am located on the same island as Atlantic City in southern NJ.  I look forward to interacting with my "new" fellow team members.

  • Jason, Welcome! Another Jersey Boy, cool.
  • Today is not the best day to be in NJ (SNOW!!), but once Spring is sprung, it's gonna' be great. I'll train at Island Beach State Park from late March to late June in preparation for IM Switzerland.  (We have a home at Ortley Beach)

Welcome to the haus. Be sure to read the forums and all the help files. This site is loaded with very good information.

    -Robert

  • Hi All:

I'm excited tol be part of the team. My goal is IMFL  (11/5/11) with at least Quassy HIM (6/5/11) before. I completed Amica 70.3 in 2009 then got pregnant with my third, so I am trying to bounce back from pregnancy and feel terribly out of shape. But, I'm hoping time and hard work will get me back in top shape and ready for this next triathlon phase. Really looking forward to connecting with others who are participating in IMFL 2011.

  • Hi y'all,

I'm the new kid. I'm 31 and live in Lafayette, Indiana working as an emergency medicine physician assistant. This is my 5th year doing tris, and my first at trying to build speed. Seriously, I'm not type A and have really just focused on building distance, plodding along, training when the desire hit me. Enjoying myself, but spending more hours out there than necessary on the course.

I completed Rev3 Sandusky last year as my first IM distance and am registered for IM Louisville this year. I lived in Kentucky for years and have volunteered the last 4 years at Louisville, so it feels like my hometown race and it's about time I raced it. I found R&P's 4 keys so helpful last year for race execution and am so glad to have found so many more resources and like minded athletes. I look forward to getting to know many of you and to having a strong, fun year!

  • Hey Everyone

So i took the leap of faith! It makes sense to do it right, and this feels right.

My focus now is Ironman 70.3 Florida in May and then IMFL in November. I have been doing tri's on and off for the last 10 years but I have decided to challenge myself this year.

I live on South Beach in Miami, love early mornings, training pain and the feeling of gettin it done.

Really looking forward to getting involved in EN!

    Tim

  • Hi Everyone,

Looking forward to working with you all!

My name is Mike Bernico.  This is my third year in triathlon and my A race for this year is IMWI.

I'm currently in the 5th week of the OS Plan.  I love the plans, and I've always been self coached, but all my friends/training partners think I'm nuts because I'm not running 50 mpw, training 20 hours, etc, so I thought I'd join up with a group of people that are doing it the same way I am.

Outside of my current forray into triathlon, I have no athletic experience.  In fact, 4 years ago I weighed over 400 pounds.  I turned my life around, lost 220 of those pounds, and now I'm trying to get fast and stay lean!

  • Great story! Welcome to EN. I am in week 2 of JOS, so also a rookie and have enjoyed it so far. Good luck at IMWI!
  • Hi I'm Charlie. Live in the UK. Just started week 1 of my 20wk HIM plan. Looking to get some great results this season. Got EN as I need some direction and control in my training as I'm moving up the distance. I've always been self coached and only got into Tri after it was suggested by a colleague - so I tried it and won my age group in my first race.
This year sees my first HIMs (I'm doing UK (June), Antwerp (July) and Ireland (Sept)). I have done sprints but find it's all over too fast and I can gain more on a longer bike leg, so moving on up!
My family lives in CA however sadly due to my job I won't be getting over much this year to make the most of the sun image

That is staggering.  Way to go and best of luck to you here at EN.  Get ready to work.

  • Hello from New Jersey!

I'm looking forward to my third tri season in 2011, targeting CedarPoint as my first 140.6 distance race, with an early season (May or June) HIM race (JerseyMan or Quassy).

I completed Rev3 quassy HIM and Timberman 70.3  races in 2010, along with some sprints mixed in.  Never done an Oly, I went from sprints to half distance races and really enjoy the long course events.

Currently doing a few weeks of OS plan then will shift to HIM intermediate, then to IM plan in June.

  • Hey John,

Welcome aboard! Lots of folks in the northeast on the team and many, many of them are racing the big HIM's up there. Will be a great summer!
