girls checking in. I gotta get up and get ready for a swim. I actually hot rolled my hair for dinner last night, yes it was dry!! (always wet) not in a ponytail!!! and fixed. and real shoes!!! real clothes too. oh and KSwiss is now doing the bike kits, fits differently but I wore mine yesteday and it felt good, the fabric and I think the fit, but hey I look like a cow.!! it is decorated like cow print!!! and I just plonked good money for it too!!! see ya
Ladies, soooo, sooo, sooo, excited for all of you!!! How wonderful that you all get to meet, reunite, race, SHOP, and hang out together! Wish I could have come, but will be tracking you all on race day!!! You will rock Wisconsin!!! Very anxious and excited for Chicas and guys racing this weekend! Hope you all made a splash at the 4 Keys Talk!! PnR! Gotta scoot for now! Thanks for the pics and updates! I still have to watch the podcast! HUGE HUGS!! Barb
okay... it's 11:40 and my flight is at 2. I'm essentially ready to go and will leave my pad to take the metro 1 stop to the airport at 12 noon on the dot. This will not be a repeat of my 4th of July trip to WY! Looking forward to the weekend. I have bike stuff and swim stuff (for the group workout tomorrow morning - fingers crossed Michele can work magic and make her bike fit me... I'm shorter for sure) and running stuff to try to knock out Sunday or Monday (as scheduled) either before signing my next year away or after to work off the stress of what I'd just done... so hopefully I won't fall too behind in my own training. I didn't do either swim this week, but other than that I'm okay... and neither swim was distance so no worries...
My new bike came last night and it's gorgeous (well, except for being orange) and light and unbelievabe. Dan just kept saying that I'm going pro... bc I have a pro setup. He did most of the remaining assembly with me watching, helping, and, at times, reading Zinn's out loud to be sure we got it right (for the headset and front derailleur install)... so so so glad I asked Todd to do all the major assembly. I think if I'd opened the box to see pieces parts I would have cried. Not to mention I would have had to pay a shop a zillion more dollars to put it together and would have had less confidence in the job than I do with Todd. I'll change out the saddle and start the fit process with Todd next week!
Can't wait to experience the EN IM with the Moo chicas!
Tons and tons of good luck chicas! I can't say it enough!! I'm watchin' ya on FB and will be tracking you on Sunday!! Soooo excited!! Looks like you will have awesome weather!
Have dutifully dropped off bike and bags. Come back to hotel room and have legs up. But what did I forget? I left my GARMIN!!!! in the room on the charger. NOT FUNNY! Will get it into the bag tomorrow AM. DOH!!!
Thank you to all for the well wishes. We feel the EN Chicka vibe and you are ALL here in our hearts!
Since arriving I have had 2 morning swims. Both chilly, but with the sun out, we'll be fine. 1 run and that was great. We did some DOWN hill riding yesterday.
Athlete meeting was fun and funny! (skipped the athlete dinner) There was a very short talk about rules, otherwise they went over the S/B/R and they were hilarious. You had to be there but we laughed quite a bit. Missed seeing Marianne, that was not the meeting, but the dinner talk- bummer.
Transition is HUGE! I am racked in the same area as the PROs, right near bike out. Totally psyched!
EN Sherpas and all iron sherpas have been awesome.
Bike and gear bags all turned in. Back at the hotel chillin with feet up. Getting excited for tomorrow! @Michelle no worries about you Garmin, easy to throw in your bag in the morning!
Same here and iron hairdo in place.. now if I could only find those baggies.. think the cleaning folks threw out my stash with the empty grocery bags I was keeping Yikes!
here are some pics, for some reason this forum won't let me post pics anymore!! okay back at hotel. wrapping up small details. had a good day, feel good and relaxed but starting to get keyed up. see you tomorrow. I will have more pics once I find the cord to other camera, m
The energy yesterday was just awesome! It was really easy to spot each other in the pink visor. You wouldn't believe how the thought of seeing so many men in pink speedos was enough to keep you moving!
EN sherpas/ EN volunteers- THANK YOU! Thank you!
Tracy Wood made a scone run for the swimmers on practice day.
Jo Cobble (Beth' sister) was out there volunteering all day. She was on the run course opposite end from the guys (closer to finish). Knowing I would see her with every pass was so helpful.
Matt Sullivan grabbed my bike after finish
Becky Hirselj was at transition to get bike after race
Met Olivia Stypak in person.
I won't get a RR up until Tuesday night probably. Suffice it to say that:
1. Work WORKS.
2. I took the lessons that others have posted in their reports in the past, learned form them, and used them to get through my day.
Here's a sneak peek-
I was prepared for the day and conditions. The lake water was not my friend once I started on the bike.
So great to see you all out there rocking it!!! I was encouraged by all of you! Linda, so sorry for your crash. The pink speed brigade was so great!. Just seeing in RnP's faces that they knew I was struggling and their encouragement was such a blessing! I look so forward to staying in touch through the next year!
Back home girls!! shewee... okay I have some funny tales to tell. but I am gonna upload some pics first! it was so great to meet you in person!! I told my friend Cindi too bad we all don't live close cuz we like each other so well and "get" each other! I hated the fact that Sheryl and Linda were not able to finish! but I totally loved having them there! both had "mechanical" issues!! anyways, I will post a race report and DH outta town today so you know me I can't wait to see my pics!! oh sure I woulda liked to have been way faster.. this was my slowest IM to date but like I told linda?? why just 20 weeks ago when we started this whole shebang I was looking at where I was with thryoid/iron and honestly? pretty thankful I was able to complete it but no kidding, it took everything I had mentally!! I think I gutted this one out from the git go!! and if you know me when one big guy kicked me in the goggles and I was sorta outta it... I popped my head up out of the water and audibly said "Crap!" I can see the funny side of it now.. but I was mad at getting hit again!! after already being clipped in the jaw!! not sure how my football sons take all that physical pain, but anyways I have never been clipped before so now I know what that feels like!
home and exhausted... not that I'm complaining or comparing what I did Sunday to what the chicas did, but wow is sherpa'ing/volunteering/cheering exhausting. It was a fabulous weekend and I'm sooooooo glad I went! It was great to finally meet so many ladies I've gotten to know so well since the spring on the forum.
I registered for next year... gulp. That is one tough race! But with all the RRs and the wisdom of the team and the chicas, I am confident I will be as prepared as humanly possible when the day comes around. For now I have to get my new bike fit and get to work - 8 weeks to go.
Congrats to all the ladies for getting out there and giving it their all... some had good days, some not so good... but just lining up is so amazing to me.
Ooh. Forum is having formatting issues. I can't seem to hard code anything in.
Anyway,
Curses! Curses paleo diet! I have a pistachio tart from one of the best bakeries in the country and I don't want to eat it! I ate salad instead! Curses!
Sherpaing is hard work. Ironman is not as bad, because you train for it, and you are in control of your day. Sherpaing? No way. Maybe we should ask Theresa if she will write a training plan for next year's class of IMWI sherpas. This year's sherpas? You are a hard class to follow!
forgot to say that the first day out, while I was driving got a text than son #1 was in a wreck and totalled his car, he is okay. right now?? Rudy the dog is missing since about 4 p.m., the gate was left open, 5.5 hours ago and we have had a dog hunt but are having to call it a night. I had 5 stress free days sandwiched in there.. and I am back to reality now! still haven't slept and got 4 hours last night. I hate to say it, but an Ironman is a vacation for me!! m
@Marianne - OMG... so glad your son is okay. how scary for you! I hope you've found Rudy by now!
Got the new bike set up finished last night and did my first video for Todd! It feels good, but still needs some tweaking, as does the bike itself (the derailleur/chain is clanking in the back when I'm riding in the 12 ring). I'm excited!!! Gotta figure out my nutrition plan and get the speedfill hooked up and buy a cage that will fit on my seatpost for behind the saddle (the one I have won't)... my first 4.5 hour ride is this weekend... good thing Dan skips town Friday morning so I can work it out Fri night and spend the weekend training!
The weather is finally breaking! Although it was in the 80s when I ran yesterday at lunch there was only 30% humidity and it felt wonderful outside... I was able to hit my zones (actually, went too fast in 4 of my 5 half miles) which is amazing... it's been a long time since I've been able to even come close without wanting to die with the heat/humidity!
This weekend was exactly what I needed to be able to face another 8 weeks of training! You ladies are amazing and inspiring and a lot of fun!
dog has been found, dumb ?? here, Becky is your FB name diff than the EN name?? going to animal control at 11. whew.
okay before I forget, Becky and other IMers to be.... I can give you some advice for quick T2.. that was my fastest event!!! at bike check in, check out the route of the transitions... and predetermine where you will sit as you enter the changing tent. I pick out a spot near the EXIT, less congested there and actually I dump out stuff, don't hardly talk and don't hardly let them do much so either sit on carpet like the other day or chair but actual conversation takes too much time. I do say thanks though. Also don't look around and don't get caught up in the chaos or other people's problems "where is my X", "do this" etc. lots of loud noises in there so zone out. Best not to change the top half of yourself. too wet and too difficult so wear what you are gonna wear the top half of the bike. easier to change out of a jersey into a singlet but not the sports top. so like I changed from bike to run shorts very easily in T2 if that is what you wanna do. but left all clothes on the same from bike to run. My wetsuit got stuck on me so a tad longer in T1. I just wear the sports top and singlet all day.. but the singlet rubs underarms so if i can take it off I will. if warm day. and just tuck it at back shorts waistline for when it gets cooler. your choice of course and my first IM I wore a running singlet and was ultra comfy in that but due to wanting to wear EN colors have not gone back to that clothing option. They were out of coke on this IM, a first so would put that in special needs. They only had it at 2 stations, I recall. Train with those foods on the run course. I can't emphasize this enough. and that way you have options if you get tired of X, you can go to Y.
also Becky et al. so you need to buy some chicken broth and pour it in your water bottles and drink it on long runs. and same thing with Perform and etc. coke pack all of that, cookies pretzels, you saw it. pack race day meds for stomach distress... and know in advance what to do if it happens cuz it does.
also, if you have to slow down, do NOT be the group that is conversing, like talking in complete sentences, if you can chat, then you are NOT working hard enough. and you will not like the post race analysis. I heard people, talking, chatting "where are we going to dinner tonight" and etc... like real sentences back and forth. none of the EN chicas were doing that. we mighta been puking in a bush, power walking, running or whatever, but save enough energy for "go EN" and that is about it. or some hugs. I heard other women out there also chatting and talking. you did not wake up early and work your hiney off, to then form new friendships on the race course!!! ha. Get real comfortable with being in pain and then know your mind tricks you into taking it easier when you hit mile 18 on the run. I think we all drilled that into our heads and successfully came off the course only due to mechanical or medical not cuz we actually wanted to quit, and I say WE as a collective En Chica vibe. gotta think on your feet so to speak. so you need training events that challenge you to think. so anything that doesn't go your way or what you thought is wonderful training. You need to be messing up the next few weeks of training. really. you need to get nauseous and do something stoopid with your nutrition so you can dig your way outta it, you need to listen to your body and figure out what it is saying just like Coach Patricks said in 4 keys talk, what is a small problem now will be a big problem a few miles down the road.
okay enough dribble, smile off to pick up the dog from Animal control. m

First of all, huge, HUGE congratulations to all of our IMOO chicas! Some of you had great races and some of you have had better days, but I am so proud of all of you for toeing that line. The weekend sounds absolutely amazing! I had very limited internet access this weekend so I couldn't follow you online, but I checked and cheered when I could, and thought about all of you all day!
I love reading race reports, but especially Ironman race reports. My favorite part is how easy completing an Ironman seems when reading them, even the super tough days. It's just "I did the swim, and then I rode my bike for hours, and then did the run". Condensing a 12 or 14 or 17 hour day into a page or two seems to make an IM into a highly desirable thing. I have finished one IM and these reports make me long to do another, even though my body seems to hate long course and makes me pay for any time spent on the bike over 2 hours. Keep those race reports coming, ladies!
T and I had a wonderful long weekend with my family up in Crested Butte, CO. We arrived Friday around lunch and left yesterday morning, arriving home last night. We hiked 50 miles in 4 days, all above 9,000 feet. Yesterday I was pouting badly about going home, and I had my eye on a 13,000 ft peak that I wanted to summit. Next time, next time. The weather was gorgeous - sunny, with lows in the 30s and highs in the 60s. I need to win the lottery so I can buy a summer home there!
Marianne, I'm glad your son is ok, and that you found Rudy. That's a little crazy that an IM is a vacation for you!
@Marianne - glad you found Rudy... and, yes, on FB I'm Rebecca Allyn (my first and middle name - dropped the last name a few months ago bc they keep changing security settings and I was getting frustrated). Thank you, thank you, thank you for the wonderful advice. I'm keeping a list (seriously, I am) at my desk. When I read race reports or something else useful (which is just about everything) for race day I write it down...and your transition suggestions are great. Not to mention training with broth, etc... I should definitely find what they'll be serving at FL and train with that for the long runs (as I don't want to carry flasks of infinit powder in a fuel belt to fill as I go... which is how I train for long runs now on a course I know has water fountains).
This weekend will be my first attempt at long rides with my new bike - I got a speedfill and need to get it set up. I plan to use a concentrated 3 hour bottle of infinit for the first time - I don't know how the tummy will handle it bc I've never actually had all the calories I'm supposed to (but amazingly done okay)... after a long talk with Lori about it we decided the odds were not in favor of me getting through a bottle an hour and that one 3 hour bottle was my only alternative (she didn't agree with my 3 scoop per bottle plan, especially since I wasn't actually drinking it all). She tweaked my formula a bit (fewer calories and a hair less sodium)... but I have the last of my old bag to use yet. I think you're right after reading so many reports and having post-race dinner with Kate - it seems like there were lots and lots of GI issues going on, so I do hope to have to deal with those in training so I can be better prepared with a plan B and C. Packing meds in special needs and transition bags are a good idea!
So, my friday night will involve a trip to the LBS, a swim, and trying to set up a water bottle cage on my aero bars for my infinit bottle. I don't want to put the nutrition in the speedfill bc I won't be able to keep track of how much I'm drinking. I've got a marked bottle to keep me in line and on track. I'll use the speedfill for water with the goal of filling it up 2x. I also need to get a saddle bag of some kind for my tubes and CO2. I have that in a water bottle behind the seat now, but the shape of my seat post won't work with the cage I have ... so I have lots to do... but motivated and excited and nervous. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I"m scared I won't be ready. I am so glad I have you all to help me!
What was the core program you guys were talking about awhile back that's NOT the P90 dealio??
You are reading my mind again. I was thinking about the same question. I have got to get back to the weight room and work the core this winter. Totally.

You are reading my mind again. I was thinking about the same question. I have got to get back to the weight room and work the core this winter. Totally.
Su & I are discussing the 2 year plan. Going to involve some serious core work. Gotta get to the revenge tour in '12
Just dropping in to say Hi, like many of you I am still exhausted from the MOO IM party weekend. Core work sounds like a good goal. I like the idea of rock hard abs. I am looking into the P90x thing. Ready to try something new and as Rich says, "have fun with my fittness".
OK- had issues and could not get on at work. I am not liking the small font again.
Gina - Marianne is quite close, it was Get Insanity. It is from the same company as P90X, they are Beachbody.com. There is quite a bit of plyo stuff, but because of my foot I did it all on the easy side and still had great results. The DVDs are relatively short, 30 minutes with WU and CD the first month, maybe 45 minutes the second. For more cardio/ weight control I warmed up on the bike or did a run before hand, then the DVD. But it depended on how much time and energy I wanted to expend. Some days I only did the DVD.
Nemo and I were on the same flight out of Madison. It was nice to just chat and relax before saying final goodbyes in Detroit.
On the flight home it suddenly hit me: "Play time is over. Back to work and reality to support this wonderful and crazy lifestyle."
Back at work I was so annoyed about having technical problems and not being able to get on the forums and read the RRs. I'll get to them this week and weekend.
LP at LP. Has a nice ring to it, no? That's thanks to Dave Halligan planting ideas in my head. Lots of people planting crazy ideas in my head to make up for the crash. Pondering....
I am starting P90X on the 27th. A couple of guys at work and I are doing a "corporate challenge" Greatest thing about it is that I will be done on Christmas day!! I have been studying bike strength and the difference a strong core can make. For food plan I subscribe to Menu Mailer on Saving Dinner. Looking for IM Texas to be HUGELY different. I haven't finished race report yet but began feeling worse and worse on Tuesday at work and after lunch left to go home and to the doctor. Raging bladder infection. Last week, husband was complaining that I was burning up during the night and having sweats. I blew it off thinking it was just nerves and weather change. Guess it was perculating during the week. In hindsight my lower back on both sides was hurting like crazy on the run, but I chalked it up to the long day.
Question for you all using Infint. Does it make sense to order two or more formulations for length of training for that day? I'm going to give it a try.
I have to share that my family was such a support the entire day. On the way home, though, my husband commented on how many people were driving themselves home alone and I joked and said, "Well, maybe they all tried and failed three times and the fourth time, the family didn't come with." He laughed and said, "I'm sure we will be there on your next one when you are finally an Ironman."
It was so great to meet you all. I wish I could have spent more time chatting. I felt overwhelmed by the weekend. I am sure hoping for a reunion next year when I volunteer!!! Thanks to you all for all the encouragement!!!

You need to be messing up the next few weeks of training. really. you need to get nauseous and do something stoopid with your nutrition so you can dig your way outta it, you need to listen to your body and figure out what it is saying just like Coach Patricks said in 4 keys talk, what is a small problem now will be a big problem a few miles down the road.
okay enough dribble, smile off to pick up the dog from Animal control. m
also, if you have to slow down, do NOT be the group that is conversing, like talking in complete sentences, if you can chat, then you are NOT working hard enough. and you will not like the post race analysis. I heard people, talking, chatting "where are we going to dinner tonight" and etc... like real sentences back and forth. none of the EN chicas were doing that. we mighta been puking in a bush, power walking, running or whatever, but save enough energy for "go EN" and that is about it. or some hugs. I heard other women out there also chatting and talking. you did not wake up early and work your hiney off, to then form new friendships on the race course!!! ha.
Totally.
Michele C was talking about it, was it Get Intense or Get Zany cuz yeah I am scheming on something!!

Miss you all and hope we get together again soon.
LP at LP. Has a nice ring to it, no? That's thanks to Dave Halligan planting ideas in my head. Lots of people planting crazy ideas in my head to make up for the crash. Pondering....
