  • Mornin' errbody!!

Wow, I  am soo behind here!!

Linda- Your boys exemplify "paying it forward", they seem so grounded. Kudos to you & Keith. And THAT Gus, ohhhhhhhhhh!!

Michele C- Glad you are safe. It is frightening that every day on the bike is like russian roulette.

Olivia- Love the bosu core ideas! Can we EVER  just do a race to "finish". I  dunno....

Kit- Glad you are hucking it. My inaugural ride got rained out Sun. Might try this afternoon

Neems- Sorry about Fi, but happy you road safely. And, WHO  doesn't like a new bike

    Tracy- Mind the foot!!

Sheryl- Sharks generally go after lone prey. Race morning there are 2500-3000 people crashing about. LAST  thing on your mind is a shark, LAST  thing on there mind is you!!

This past Saturday morning I  spent some time with my sister, Susie, working on "bike riding". Inspired by the Chica's ; MOO  she purchased a nice Giant road bike last Friday. It is amazing how much we take for granted about riding!! All the things that are second nature to us, present a real learning curve to a newbie. Clipping in &  out, shifting, stopping, anticipating....

I  did my first run since IMWI yesterday, sadly, my achilles is still very sore. In the meantime, I  am trying to remain positive that it will get better. Core work, pool running, biking as tolerated are on the docket.

  • trying to change avatar pic and it won't let me, did the upload and then hit save and nothing. also Sheryl, we need something cool for TX. I mean cowgirl works down there too...

Part 2: "MooJO goes to Texas and links up with her southern sistahs! "

anybody have any cool ideas? I sure wouldn't want to steal MooJo from her WI roots. so open to another zany idea. i know I am not supposed to be thinking about the next one!!! ha ha. but we have to announce our A race in the OS. so it got me thinking. m
  • Wow... I don't think I could cover everything even with the review function... you ladies are movers and shakers!  And I'm jealous of all the fun mtb rides, etc... I'll be there soon enough, but sadly when most of you are already in OS... I'm just a step behind this year which is a bummer on the one hand but good on the other bc I get to soak up all your wisdom!

@Marianne- I had the same problem with changing my pic... it did change eventually but it wasn't immediate and I didn't see it for a while.. I wrote admin and they saw the pink boa while I was still looking at my old pic...

@Nemo - wowie about the bike... I just replaced a Felt with a cracked frame on the seat post tube (looks like a seam to me, too).  Interesting.  I'm glad you're okay!  And I'm glad Felt is taking care of it!

I'm hungry and tired all the time - I think that means I'm doing something right... right?  I got up this morning for my hour run from yesterday (felt off when I got home and took a second rest day).  Holy humid... and headwinds.  It was rough but I did it.  Will swim afterwork and be 1 swim down for the week... no worries.  Sent more video to Todd... in the position I rode this weekend (pain) and taking the last spacer out from under the headset... he thinks the seat height is good.  he wants me to move it forward a bit more.  he likes the no spacer.  he says I'm a bit V'ed in aero, so I might want to get an extension kit for my aero pads - which might alleviate some of the shoulder pain I had... so I'm gonna ride this weekend with my seat more forward and see how it goes.  If the shoulder is still buggy, an extension kit will be ordered ASAP... this is crazy... but I think I'm getting close.

  • I'm hungry and tired all the time

Yup- sounds just about perfect :-) Becky- I totally forgot your old bike was a Felt. Go look at the thread I started in the General Forum regarding the Felt B2 warning- I posted pictures there of the crack for folks to see the issue. Let me know if this is what yours looked like too. Unfortunately the warranty is only for the original owner- so I don't think yours would be covered. Oh- and no worries on tweaking your fix. I made minor tweaks up to the final RR with Todd. But after that final RR- you gotta call it quits- whatever it is it is! OK?

Regarding MooJo, oh man, ladies I am just NOT ready to say goodbye to that little cow! I don't care that IMWI is over, I can't put her away. She stays on my dresser and when I see her she makes me smile. I think she's just a permanent EN Chica mascot in my book- for all races at this point. You ladies who shared rooms with me know I have a few little good luck charms that travel with me to races. MooJo is absolutely being added to that herd :-)
  • B: Hungry and tired? Just coming down fro that myself! Taper will give you back a lot of zoom and pep. Hang in there.

T: good call on the ultras. No way your injuries could handle that pounding. The race is one thing, but logging all those miles in training would do you in. Keep in the road to healing.

K: I totally envy your bike handling skills. Totally. But not enough to get me on a cross or MTB. image The days of riding sound heavenly. Me? I'll stick to walking in the woods, which I have been doing a ton of.

O: aren't we mazing that Ironman is no longer a race "just to finish." Think about that? Our perspectives truly aren't the norm. It's good thing, but we really are unique.

About to head to a client and likely learn how much I'll be cut bac--$$$. Not out, but I'm sure I'll take a significant hit. C'est la guerre. Better that than out. I guess.

Part 2: "MooJO goes to Texas and links up with her southern sistahs! "

I love it! MooJo's TX sistas would be Longhorns. Hook'em horns!  A WI Holstein in Longhorn country.  Kinda like Marlo Thomas in That Girl...but with cows.
  • speaking of Moo Jo... where did you ladies get them?  I'd love to have one (and keep her spirit alive training for IM Moo next year... adding more pics to FB, etc).

@Nemo, I looked - not the same place, but crazy all the same.  Unfortunately I don't know how old my old bike is - I'm guessing at least 3-5, which Todd said sounded right because they don't make 52's with 650s any more.

Darn it, now I'm forgetting the other posts again.

@Linda - FWIW, I thought the lemonade and cookies idea for the teacher was a riot.  And I certainly appreciated your having to rewrite your email... I've been known to let myself go and hit send before stopping, walking away, and rereading/editing... oohh... never a good idea.  This digital age can be very scary.  Then again, I've always suffered from a lack of a self censor or mute button.  Getting better but still so far to go.  I just don't suffer fools and I have no problem telling a fool he's an f'in idiot!  Hmm... I probably won't go very far in the government, "yes, sir; whatever you want, sir" world.  I'm okay with that.  If all goes well, I'll be opening a gym in the next 3-5 years (Justin and I are moving forward - we have a name, a logo, and are working on the LLC papers...).

A race just to finish... hmm... I want my first IM to be that (to finish, with a smile on my face and not end up in the medical tent), but I also want to do as well as I can.  I'm so torn... yes, you are all insane.  And I can't wait to join you there!

Linda, I never really thought about it but that is so true.  Wow, when the crossover happen?

I've been falling off the pace with the forums these days but it sounds like everyone has gotten very busy at work...amazing how we are able to just deal all season then when IM is over, kaboom!, work explosion.  I'm glad to hear that between almost being hit by crazy drivers, insane teachers, cracked frames and injuries, everyone is doing well for the most part!  Also loved, loved, loved the puppy and sailboat pictures!  Just made me say awwwww, how sweet.  Thanks for sharing!

  • @ shark stuff...problem is...I am the lone swimmer cuz I'm so slow :>)

So....Moo Jo is continuing to Texas???
  • oh goodness, MOOJO is right here by my computer!!! she makes me smile when I see her and my silly bandz is in my car!!! okay I will look for a "sistah" for MooJO. Gina started this so not sure the source on this cute little cow. I should google TX or something like that. been working on mt bike race stuff and the highlight was getting a local band to perform for free!! and also trying to track down objects for my bike guy to do trials on as other entertainment. I got a wish list to include beat up car!! and flatbed. and normal things like RR ties. all part of the entertainment that I am in charge of. bouncy toys, fishing and then manning each station and I haven't even ridden the 8.8 mile course!! beginners. tired today, very tired. m
  • My family is in Texas and I asked my brother to look for the little armadillos like the one I have. They are ubiquitous in Texas. I picked up extra MooJo's at Fleet Farm. I could probably get Longhorns there. Are we just doing Chicka mojo or men too??

Also, don't know if you saw in the weigh in thread but Hasan threw me a challenge.  Whoever loses 13 lbs (all he has left to lose) first gets to pick the prize!!  I think he paid someone to put ice cream in my freezer.  Not just any kind but cow tracks!!!!  OK...just using MooJo for the mojo to win!!!

  • I originally found MooJo @ a farm supply store in Georgia. Then googled the item # for Schleich toys and ordered them in bulk.

The company also makes a longhorn, BUT in my opinion I kinda think MooJo is now THE team mascot & should travel to all races.

  • Totally agree Gina!!! If there are any new gals, I can pick up some MooJo's for them at the Farm and Fleet in town. I sure hope I can make it down there for a race rehearsal....not to get too personal but there is no staying with my brother and his family so I can't save money that way which is disappointing. In fact, when I told him about the race, he made it clear he would be busy with his wife who won't do anything with anyone who doesn't make her the center of everything. It's too bad. Hopefully he and I can get together for lunch.

Totally agree!!!  She's more than just an IMoo cow!  She's family!

I'm working on putting together an EN Calendar for 2011.  I've pulled the pics I want to use (including a MooJo pic) but in order to make this happen I am gonna need to find the original owners of the pictures because I'll need to use the fully formated versions (not the internet/reduced quality version).  I'm not sure I know where all of these came from-(used the EN photobucket to find a lot of them) so any help you gals can give me in finding the original source will be appreciated!  Keep your eyes out for PMs from me

  • Chicka mojo is my vote.

I would like a 2nd cow whatever kind she is. and to write IMTX on it and 2011 like Gina did for us. Sheryl, will send you $$ for shipping or whatever. wonder how cute the longhorn would be.

heat acclimation: good article in Lava, Sheryl.

I am still tired but have a doc appt in 2.5 weeks with "somebody" for 2nd opinion about thryoid. yep I will ask about" whatever" that drug was called.... "_____" this brain mushiness gets me!! this is what I am talking about. ha. talk at ya later

    m
  • OK I'm liking this MooJo official mascot thing....and hmmmm. If she is our official mascot I may have some plans a brewin' for that little cow for next year. She's gonna need to acclimated to altitude though. Plenty of time for that!

Good news! My most recent MTB crash injury is healing really nicely. It's left a nasty red and pink mark, but the skin appears to be coming back very well. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the pink and red to go away....if it ever does.

OK...I guess I should dive into work. Boo!
  • yay, mooJo!  Gina if you have another, I'd be thrilled if you send it to me (will pay for shipping), or Sheryl if you can pick one up for me, that'd be great!  Since I'm heading to the beach in FL, maybe I can put her in a binkini... lol!

    @Nemo - a calendar sounds awesome!!!

@Olivia - glad you're healing up!  That scar on your knee was pretty nasty but the way you pimped your capri pants was fab!

@Marianne - hope everything checks out with the doc.  On Linda's suggestion I got a book about Thyroid... now I have to find the time to read it... and I also picked up Race Weight (or something like that)... that will probably have to wait til after FL, I have too many other things floating in my head now...

got up early, but not early enough... alarm was set for 4:45... next thing I know it's 5:20.  On the drainer at 5:30 for my 30/30s but no time to do the brick (good news: further tweaks on the bike saddle position per Todd didn't result in knee pain under load... I tried to spend a lot of time in aero, but my real test will be outside riding for that).  I WILL swim after work tonight... I've lost all swim mojo (all the more reason to put MooJo in a bikini).  Dan said he'd go with me, and will be there before me to do a crossfit session then join me for part of my epic swim... so I have to go... he'll already be there so I can't call and back out.   Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be horrendous... hope I can fit my first 2.5 hour run outside, on a dreadmill will be horrible... but I'll do what I have to do to get it done!  Started to have IM dreams... trouble turning off the noggin last night.  Ugh...

On a somewhat surprising note - mom IS coming to FL.  Dad and I chatted last night as he searched for airfare for her  She's arriving Fri morning and leaving Mon morning (actually on my flight with a layover in GA).  One of my brothers is also coming - I knew he would... and know he gets it so hopefully he can keep mom from annoying me too much.

  • Ok. Picking up a herd at farm and fleet tonight! Pm me your addresses if you want one.
  • Posted By Michele Cellai on 26 Sep 2010 04:00 PM

... doesn't matter if I was right if I am dead. Gotta continue to be aware.

Wow, pretty profound statement.  It's so easy for me to get caught up in the "I'm right", "they're wrong" mentality.  But even if they're wrong, they still have the ability to take me out.  Definitely will keep that in the back of my mind.

Geez, I haven't read this thread since before IMWI.  I spend the morning so far getting caught up.  I can empathize with the IMWI folks going through the post-IM depression/recovery/"what do I do now that life doesn't revolve around my IM training" thingy.  It's definitely a roller coaster.  I especially love Beth's advice about finally letting your body decide what to do.  It's so hard to just let go of your fitness and watch it decline, but IM-level fitness is just not sustainable regardless of how much we want it to be. Of course gaining 10# in the 3 months after your IM is not recommended (speaking from current personal experience!), but there needs to be some sort of balance.  Getting the calorie intake under control goes a long way, and just trying to enjoy some active recovery and "fun" fitness is key.

Despite my total lack of fitness these days, I am SO enjoying the cyclocross scene!  I'm still not planning to race this year, just doing lots of cx riding and watching races.  Saw Hayes racing last weekend was fun!  And Jonnie has been doing some races, so very cool to go play sherpa for that.  And some of my female friends just did their first cx races last weekend, too.  It's so tempting...  But I'm already becoming a cx elitist and think that my heavy steel Surly is just not good enough, and that I would enjoy it more with a lighter faster bike!  Let's see, maybe dropping those extra 10# that I'm carrying is a much less expensive way to get there!  image  But the new Cannondale SuperX...drool...sigh...stare...

Starting back this week into a more consistent workout schedule, so already feeling better physically.  CX practice ride again tonight.  Now just gotta get back on the core/strength bandwagon.

    Miss you all!

  • mt bike ride today! this was a recon of the race I am doing, so I was following this guy's written directions,ya know he knows the trails and I am a noob!! solo but close to the main roads that I am familiar with!! http://mlp5.smugmug.com/Sports/Carpe-Diem/13977686_qiikD#1027568984_b2LdL. Overall a hilly, small rocky route!! no major tree roots though or flat boulders that was nice. and no drop offs either. but some stiff short climbs and some crevices with loose gravel rocks on them and then lots of rocks.. I have got to find that email Kitima that gave me link to those knee pads!! advantage? I have endurance and aerobic like you do too!! I have no finesse though or bike handling, well some. and this is hilarious. the faster you go, the more you can "roll over stuff" but then the faster you go the more scared but if you slow down you wreck!!! so the whole thing is a heart pumping adventure!!! and wherever you look your bike will follow!! nerve wracking so when it gets stressful, I just stop and took pics!!!! ha.
  • changing the subject:

    computers.

okay so DH has the $1600 big Mac, for lack of a better term, huge screen and wants to know if I want it instead of my laptop. now I don't like gadgets, don't like change due to the hours of learning curve and would not consider myself a pro. so not sure why I would need this??? I take this laptop with me on the few times that I travel and other than that it mostly sits on my desk. yes the big Mac would fit here.

which then flows into, I still have no WKO or PowerAgent!! okay this again is the fact that I have no idea what I am doing. I mean like you should see my laptop face with a gazillion little icons! so I found out that my Best Buy has mac classes for $50 an hour!! at their site or they come out for $130!!! I do so much better with visual hands on and not reading a manual....

so I was gonna buy the software but if I switch computers then ?? dumb ? here would I put the software only on one computer so I have to decide which computer right? and if I get the big one then I have to move all of my stuff or figure out how to network??? and get somebody else involved?? see the problem. and then how do I travel with it. I don't.

so thinking I should stay with what I know, the laptop. okay then moving on.. I read VMware like Sheryl and Beth have but honestly I can't stand glitches in anything!! or there is Parallels (which some of you say have troubled you), so I am looking at about $350 to get WKO to run right? and some people even have 2 computers, (Tom) nope I don't have.

now somebody mentioned getting a Notebook and putting power on that.  wonder if that would be less money or simpler, seems a bit backwards to buy another something and then you gotta have two somethings.. but I am open.

I don't think there is an EN beginner power seminar, like you know how in cake decorating class you went one week, learned one thing, and then at the next lesson, brought the cake wih the one thing demonstrated!  see I need that simple of a class.  Go out one day and do a 10' interval and then load the data, read the data and be able to show the data!!

by now you are shaking your head in exasperation!!!  it gets worse....

I am using the Garmin 310XT with the Powertap and have not upgraded to the JOULE.  now if I need one, I could ask for it for Christmas as DH is always looking for ideas.  but would prefer one learning curve but still Christmas is a good idea.  right now the Garmin is set to show me "on the spot" power and average power per lap.  David (ENer but not Mac) set that up for me.

don't even have my Garmin 310XT features figured out although I note Carly has done a Wiki on it. so my goals once again in this OS is to figure out these $$ gadgets. now I would drive to one of you for a "hands on figure out Marianne's stuff weekend"!!! Actually to be perfectly honest, I need somebody to buy what I need, load what I need and then show me which buttons to work to get what I need. I need a MAC Power Guru. so before I buy the power seminar or other, I really need to have some analyzing software.

so then last night I try to download Power Agent, right?? 7.5.1.19. well I hit download and now I have no idea where it went!!! like....I know. I am dumb. where on my screen? what file, how do I find???? cuz I read that Rich is using it and somebody else a girl uses it too.

    ***

    The Phone

remember my teeny tiny phone that fit in my run shorts key pocket? well after years of sweat and being banged up, it died. so now I am on a loaner phone. and again, I don't know how to work it, like it is on vibrate and I don't know how to change to ring!!! nor can anybody leave me messages.

now the family has IPHONES, husband and 3 sons... so what do I ask for?? what model, and how to protect cuz like I said I bang them up. I hear Otterbox. but my real question is: how do you run/ride with it. Okay riding you have pockets but running??? what gadget do you use to run with your phone. DH travels every week, so I am a single parent many days and so I am my kids' emergency contact. I do a lot of solo training so I need a phone. How heavy is this phone anyways???

    **

so see right now I need a phone$$$ and some software$$$$ and I just came back from an IM$$$$ and well I think I am getting to be high maintenance!! so now i have bared my soul!!!! so help a sistah out!!!

LINKS, websites, tutorials, WIKI links, PICS, sources, you come here for the weekend!!!!! me go there!!! ya know I think I am serious about that one.

    m

edit:  okay maybe I shoulda put this in the power forum but I was "scairt!"   besides I was serious about coming to your place for a Power Sleepover

  • oh M!  If I ever get power I suspect I'll be right there with you... and I need a new computer. but am not exactly that technologically savvy either... I know how to do what I need to do and that's fine with me... so, if I ever get this all set up (this year I am just bleeding money - trying to pay for one thing before jumping in to the next) we may have to insist on a beginner session!

So tired.  So hungry.  Just a few more weeks!!!  Had to jigger the schedule bc of horrible weather yesterday (Nemo, are you okay, I suspect it was worse for you)... will go home early and get my long run in tonight.  Perhaps leading to a later start for the 4.5 hour run tomorrow, which will stink as far as the trail will be more crowded but at least it won't be wicked hot.  Sun Dan is planning to join me for my 3 hour ride.  Then I'm heading to a massage (friend in MT school is doing hammies this week and I will be her practice doll - yay!)... 2.5 more hard weeks...

  • Marianne, don't take the Best Buy class. Take a class at an apple store. Way better. The VMware has never given me any problems. I love my iPhone but I did wait till husband wanted a new one so bad that he bought me one to to appease his conscience.
